DAY THREE

Vasárnapra virradtunk, így engedtünk magunknak egy kis lustálkodást. Persze reggelizni le kell menni, hiszen nagyon finom falatok várnak bennünket. Kifejezetten kellemes hangulata van az étteremnek. Reggel tágasnak nyitottnak hat, míg este egy igazi barátságos kisvendéglő a maga zsúfoltságával, hangulatával, ahogy helyiek társasjátékozni járnak néha korsó sör mellett. Az asztalunktól egyenesen a Grossglocknerre és az előtte magasodó, manósapkára hajazó Figerhornra nyílik a panoráma. Sose gondoltam, hogy a lágy vajjal megkent helyi ropogós, enyhén köményes ízű kenyér annyira finom, hogy ez lett a minden nap a kedvenc reggelim.

A tegnapi nap többünkben okozott kellemes kifingást, ezért ma egy kevésbé durva pályára terveztünk menni. A szobában átbeszéltük a tervet, összepakoltunk, majd Kalsban található Taurerwirt alá autóztunk. Nem sokat teketóriáztunk, neki is vágtunk a menetnek. Felmegyünk egy Bergeralmhoz, ahol csipegetünk valamit, majd a másik úton visszaereszkedünk. 

El is indultunk a szurdokba, mikor Kriszti megszólalt mögülem:

Te, nem láttad azt a táblát ami mellett elmentél?

Nem, milyen táblát?

Hát kb. egy négyzetméteres piros tábla, egy hatalmas tenyérrel és “Lavinaveszély miatt lezárva” felirattal hirdette, hogy itt bizony forduló van kisgyerek. Fel kellett adnom, hogy ezek a táblák meg a használati útmutatók az amatőröknek valók, így ide mégse menjünk be. Visszaballagtunk az addigi útra és nekiláttunk egy kellemes völgytúrának. Szerencsére sífutók sem jöttek szembe, így kényelmesen bandukoltunk meg megállva egy-két fénykép erejéig. Lecsorogtunk Kalsban, majd a falun átkelve ismét megkezdtük az emelkedést. 

Ahogy ott haladunk, hozzánk csapódott egy fekete kiskutya. Én már messziről láttam, már akkor is gyanús volt, mert nem volt vele senki. Megnéztük a nyakörvét. Traktive követő ugyan volt rajta, de biléta nem.

Hát mi legyen. Eldöntöttük, hogy jöhet velünk és majd visszavisszük a faluba. Kiválóan beszélt németül és nagyon jól nevelt volt. Mellon ellenben kapott két büdös nagy sallert, mert parasztkodott a kis cukival. Na, hát így emelkedtünk fel a 40 centis hóban egy szakadék mellett. Meglehetősen kimerítő szakasz volt, hiszen ezúttal nem hoztunk hótalpat sem. Bár Gerhard lebeszélt róla, de csak felmentünk a híres függőhídhoz. 

Nekem jutott a feladat, hogy átvigyem az ebeket rajta. Nagyon ügyesen vették az akadályt, bár látszólag egyikük sem szereti a rácsos padlót. Miután átértünk, talán a legszebb szakasza jött a túránknak. Egy fenyőerdőben a szakadék peremén mentünk, miközben helyenként csodálatos kilátás tárult elénk a szemközti csúcsokról. Még egy echte erdei pottyantós WC-t is találtunk, ami olyan takaros volt, hogy bármely tanyán megirigyelték volna idehaza. Egy darabig felfele haladtunk, majd megkezdtük az ereszkedést. Egészen Kalsba jutottunk vissza, oda ahonnan feltételeztük, hogy a vendégkutya érkezett. Két beszélgető, helyinek tűnő embertől informálódtunk. Hát kiderült, hogy Amy és egészen fenn egy hüttében lakik. Ez magyarázat, hogy miért mozgott olyan otthonosan az erdőben. Egyből hívták a gazdit, mi pedig elbúcsúztunk útitársunktól. Kíváncsi lettem volna a gazdi arcára, amikor kiolvasták az adatokat a nyomkövetőből. Visszameneteltünk az autóig, majd lenyomtam az órát. Végül a túránk 13,5 km lett 500 m szintemelkedéssel, helyenként 50 cm hóban taposva.

A Glocknerblick konyhája még nem volt nyitva, így Gerhard által javasolt Temblerhof felé vettük az irányt. Ez amolyan gazdaságként is üzemelő vendéglátó egység, ahol a pályákról is ki tudnak csúszni a síelők. Hangulatos kiskocsma, viszont eszméletlen finom ételekkel. Kriszti smarnit én pedig hidegtálat kértem.

Hát degeszre ettük magunkat a helyi jóságokkal. Lehet le kell mondani a vacsoraasztalunkat is. A szálláson eldőltünk egy késő délutáni sziesztára. Kicsit később lenéztünk az étteremben, de egy kellemes savanyú káposztán felszolgált tiroli gombócon kívül más nem fért belénk. 

A mai napot is kimaxoltuk, még többet is tettünk a lábakba a tervezettnél. Az utolsó nap már kalkulálni kell a hazaúttal, így ott csak egy könnyű program férhet bele. Mi már tudjuk azt is, hogy mi lesz.

Traktivism 101

By the way, I met the legendary traktivist (a.k.a. Richie) a few weeks ago at a local Sam Woo during an ungodly triple digit heatwave. Lovely, knowledgeable kid. Passionate about Asian Ams in music. Has many great stories to tell. 

One such story involved a certain Korea-based global pop star he had the chance to work with not too long ago, a person who I deeply revere (and who has been featured many times on this Tumblr). Let’s just say Richie was very complimentary towards her when I asked him “so, what’s she really like?”

Do you watch a lot of movies or TV Shows? Do you have a WordPress site? You will love Traktivity!

This plugin allows you to log everything you watch inside your WordPress site. You may then use that data for anything you want.

You could display the last few shows you watched in a widget in your sidebar, you could automatically post on Facebook or Twitter whenever you are watching something, or you could just keep that data to find out more about the genres you watch the most, or how many hours you spent in front of the TV last month or last year.

Most importantly, that data is yours, saved in your WordPress site for good.

How it all works

The plugin relies on two third party services: Trakt.tv and TMDb.

Trakt.tv is where your activity first gets logged. Once you have created an account there, you will be able to link it to services like Plex or Netflix so you don’t have to manually enter shows you’re watching. You then link Trakt to the Traktivity plugin on your site and everything you watch will be recorded in your WordPress site from now on.

TMDb is a great service. Much like IMDb, it’s a place where the community gathers info about shows and movies. Once you link the Traktivity plugin to that service is will start grabbing images from all the things you’ve watched and store those in your Media Library.

Why are you talking about this now?

I released the first version of this plugin a few months ago. It originally only logged data. A few days ago I added a widget to the plugin, so it is now a lot more useful 🙂

As you can see this interface doesn’t look like a regular WordPress dashboard page. This was another challenge I gave myself with this release: I wanted to build a React interface inside the WordPress dashboard. No better exercise when you want to Learn JavaScript deeply 🙂

It’s been interesting to dive into this. Breaking out of WordPress’ Settings API to build my own admin screen took some work. It gives me a lot more flexibility to do things that users will appreciate, like a setup wizard when you first install the plugin. That also means you have to build everything from scratch, figure out how things will be stored, fetched, updated, and displayed.

I am happy with the result for now. I certainly learnt a lot!

I still have a lot of work to do though:

I’d like to make the interface as accessible as the default WordPress admin screens are.

I’m no designer so things look ugly 😦

I’d like to add more stats and data to the main dashboard. It should become a place to go to get all kinds of stats about your TV addiction hobby. I would then be able to display that data in widgets as well.

I would like to start using Redux. I need the practice and I think the interface would benefit from it.

I need to figure out a better way to handle translatable strings. Passing them all from PHP to JS isn’t pretty, especially as the number of strings grows.

I haven’t really worked on making the components I built really exportable, so others can use them as well.

I still haven’t figured out routing inside the WP dashboard. I would like to have a couple of subpages inside the Traktivity dashboard in the future.
