"What time is it?" Leia asked, when she felt the bed shift beneath them and woke up. She was in between gigs at the moment, enjoying days when she could sleep in, and Travis wasn't working today either as far as she knew. "Is everything okay? I didn't kick you in my sleep or anything?" She yawned, flopping back into the pillows. Leia had been hoping to sleep longer, the both of them getting back late from a party. She had finally introduced Travis to her family, having waited so long not out of worry, but more out of timing. Both of them were extremely busy, and Leia had been out of town on an intensive for two weeks, and Travis had traveled for his clients. So when her Bubbe's birthday came up, Leia made sure their schedules were clear. Everybody loved Travis and found him very sweet despite his tough exterior. And Leia found herself falling more and more in love. Spending her nights in bed with him was amazing. Even if they hadn't quite jumped over every hurdle.

"Play your cards right and you could meet them. I think they'd like you." Leia said, aiming for cocky but landing closer to earnest. Honestly, she was ready for him to meet everyone know. She had such a good feeling about him. In their cozy little cocoon, movies playing more as background noise than anything else, Leia had never felt so comfortable. "That goes for me too. I want us to be open with each other. I've seen far too many of my friends be in awful relationships because of zipped lips and keeping cruel secrets. Only fun secrets are allowed here." The movie Travis had suggested was at the end, she assumed, and she turned her neck to look up at him again. "What do you want to do now? I feel like we haven't really been watching the movies."

As someone who was a creative soul himself Travis understood what she meant about being the odd one out. Although he had his cousin everyone else around them just nodded blindly at their creative expressions. "Your brother and mom sound great by the way," he smiled knowing the importance of family was something they shared. Out of everything they did tonight this was his favorite. Simply holding her hands as they stayed so close to each other. When she turned to face him Travis wrapped his arms around her in return holding her close. "Good because I never want you to feel like there's something you can't tell me. At your own pace of course. I just mean, I would never judge you or shut you down."

2020 Backlog Progress in Retrospect

2020 was the year of finally finishing the backlog. The final game ended up being Disco Elysium back on July 1st but in the months since I’ve built up a list again. Going forward I’m hoping to keep the backlog at 10 games or less since I’ve found I do like having a wider list of games to choose from after finishing something. After finishing over 100 games in 2020 there were a ton of classics that I finished for the first time, so many so that making a top 20 list was very difficult. I’ve always made this end of year breakdowns for my own archives but I thought it would be fun to share it this year alongside the full list of what I finished!

Favorite game of 2020: Sakura Wars

When I was looking back at this year, the game that stuck the most with me was easily the original Sakura Wars for the Sega Saturn. Back in December of 2019 the english patch released online and I was so excited to finally be able to play the first entry in one of Sega’s biggest franchises for the first time. I had yet to play any games in the series beyond just fumbling around an import copy of various games on Saturn and Dreamcast and I was glad to be able to experience it with such a well-made fan patch. It’s a very simple strategy game mixed in with lite RPG and Dating mechanics but there’s such a great charm to how well everything mixes together. The way they mix in the animated cutscenes throughout each chapter make it feel like you’re playing a classic mid 90′s anime and it was just a nice cozy experience the whole way. I managed to play through it twice this year and tinkered around with later entrees in the series but I’m hopeful that the sequel will get picked up as a fan translation project soon, otherwise I’ll probably be going through those games the old fashioned way with a printed out GameFAQS guide at my side.

The perfect end to a date and the perfect start to a possible relationship. "Yeah me too." She giggled, pulling back a touch to look Travis in the eyes. So cute. "Okay, one more, no two more, one more kiss and then I have to go. Otherwise I'd just stand here and kiss you forever." Leia said before wrapping her arms around Travis' neck to pull him in again, kissing him longer but still keeping it soft. Then she cheated by giving him sweet little pecks when she started to pull away. "Okay okay, now I'm going! Goodbye Travis, get home safe."

No matter what he had in mind for the rest of his night he would have dropped everything if Leia wanted to spend more time together. At the same time he understood wanting to end the night now when it felt natural. "Yeah sure not a problem," he smiled reaching to lightly scratch the back of his neck. "I definitely want to see you again." He smiles reaching for his phone to get her number before realizing she had closed the distance between them. "You were an amazing date princess," he whispered reaching to cup her face in his hands leaning in to kiss her gently. Right away the sweetness of it made him comfortable in the moment. Not wanting to make her uncomfortable he pulled back just enough to press their foreheads together. "Gosh I have been looking forward to kissing you all night," he whispered against her lips as his thumbs brushed over the apples of her cheeks.

There was nothing that made me go “Yo, I gotta go pre-order that shit right now”. Aside from being one of the smart gamers and not buying something at launch, the launch line up just feels weak and you’re better off just waiting till later this year to get one. Yeah there’s Zelda....but that’s not enough to get me to buy the thing and I love Zelda, BOF looks great. 

Splatoon 2 looks marvelous (sliding behind someone while whispering “hail hydra” will be a thing), I’m super hyped for another game with our lovable otaku Travis Touchdown whom I thought was done after desperate struggle or whatever the other one was called, and the next Shin Megami game looks interesting (despite the fact I have no fucking clue what it’s about). Fire Emblem looks pretty nice too.

But overall, I’m gonna wait and my excitement for it is a little lukeworm at the moment. One point to em, I’m at least more interested in them than I am Microsoft for whats to come.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild being on launch day of the Nintendo Switch is definitely gonna help it sell gangbusters. I haven't been interested in a Zelda game since Windwaker (except for Link Between Worlds), but this new one looks really darn good.

Super Mario Odyssey is gonna help sell gangbusters around Holiday season for sure. I like the 64/Sunshine style gameplay better myself, I'm glad it looks like they're bringing it back.

Splatoon 2 looks pretty cool too. The first game is a really unique game on the Wii U, hopefully this will help get it to a bigger audience.

Arms and 1 2 Switch are... there I guess. We got this console's Wii Sports and a tech demo that uses all the properties of the new controller.

Xenoblade 2, several Dragon Quest games, a new Square Enix game, a new Shin Megami Tensei, and Fire Emblem Warriors... while these games aren't for me, I appreciate the variety.

Skyrim and FIFA coming to the Switch... alright I guess. I mean, at least Nintendo owners can finally play those games I guess.

Also... some type of new game with my boy Travis Touchdown? No More Heroes 1 & 2 are really great games, I'm happy to see Travis back. That surprised me.

I tried to catch as many games as I could during the montage... I saw Puyo Puyo Tetris and Project Sonic 2017 though, so I'm happy about that. Some other stuff I caught was Rayman and Mario Kart. The rest went by me too fast.

The information... was presented in such a weird way, I had trouble making sense of things. Overall, though, I feel the presentation did its job. I feel they did good.

I can't remember the name of this blog but who ever they are made the gimmick that they would draw every mother enemy across all three games and that made me wanna do the same.

My main contenders are the

Shin Megami Tensei ( all demons, all characters)

The Etrian Odyssey series (maybe including the Persona Q ganes cause I get to draw the funny little shadows and the original designs are also very pog)

The Pikmin series (including hey! Pikmin) + the lovely explorers we follow and pikmin

Every Animal Crossing animals + the base villager design across the games cause I think they're cute (I draw them for myself, as a treat)

Bloodborne

Maybe other soulsborne series games, excluding elden ring cause I also haven't played that and have no connection to it

Nier: Automata

No More Heroes + Travis Strikes Again + the basic enemy designs cause why not

Last but not least Yokai Watch + it's spin offs

That's quite the tall order. But hey, your never gonna get better unless you start by over bearing yourself. Jokes aside I think this would be fun anyways. Like a fun side project (to help me from weight of all the other side projects I'm disregarding)
