would you recommend reading naruto? i'm beginning to want context for the various konoha plots and shenanigans that befall you so very often
Since the dawn of time, humans have wondered :  should you read Naruto? Many people's answer (cowards) was a flippant  "don't watch Naruto". I think we can do better.
I think the way to ensure everyone has a good time is to make a list of why people watch naruto and what is enjoyable abt it or not and let you decide for yourself if you should watch it or not. This is not a review of naruto or an opinion piece on whether it is good or not.
Let's start with the bad parts :)
-Kishimoto's politics. Without too much spoiler, most of the bad parts of the system in Naruto will in fact just stay as is.
-The animation. Studio Pierrot does its job and there are some genuinely really good moments but i won't try and sell you Naruto on its animation. It's fine.
-The story. Kishimoto's politics and writing capabilities simply could not handle a story going on for more than 10 years lol!
Reasons people watch or read Naruto anyway:
-Shonen brain. It is genuinely very fun to see characters use powers of escalating magnitude to fight against each other with cool sounds and visuals and strategies. Many fights in naruto are great to watch, including those at the end too. I believe you are a touhou enjoyer ? i think you will like this. yippe adrenaline etc. the fights are good in the manga as well.
-The art. This is especially relevant if you're going to read it instead of watch as your ask suggests, the art in naruto is lovely! It's very endearing to see the evolution of it too, from the earlier more scratchy scrappy style to the more polished. It's a very idk... balanced type of art? just enough lines.
-The music. This is only relevant if you decide to watch it but the music really is so so good and iconic. And of course the endings and openings....
-Worldbuilding. Many fun settings and lore :)
-The characters. There are abt 56435675867 gajillions characters and groups of people and you Will find someone to get attached too.
-Of course, the most important part of any work that people get involved with, its actual badness. Some vague notion of "potential" gets people invested, and they start posting when that potential doesn't get realised. This potential can start from nostalgia, investment in a character who never gets developed, hope that kishi would have better politics or a better ending, trying to correct things, or just the desire to explore a world you like! Naruto functions best as a sandbox, which is the conclusion of this post I guess. If you would like to get involved, you will probably like it. If not, probably not. Hope this helps :)

what are some words where you like their constituent sounds and/or motions?
oh congrats on getting unshadowbanned! couldn’t see these asks before…
also, I really like how the names of the Orlando innamorato/Furioso characters roll off the tongue… something about the sounds of their words and the motions of the mouth while saying them is very pleasing to me

origami anomalocaris!!!!! design is by makoto yamaguchi, folded with double sided tissue foil
this one was a pain to fold, but i'm really glad i did it regardless
some particular pain points were the eyes and the shape of the central torso structure, the eyes are basically made by opening out a point into an octagon and it's really easy to fuck up, and the torso structure has like a combined open and closed sink thing
that said the eyes are really cool once they're done imo
robert lang's cicada uses something similar, not looking forward to that whenever i get around to attempting that
also i had to make the paper the same color on both sides as well since one set of tail fins is made with the back side of the paper and ends up a different color otherwise

thinking about how in a post-canon bara magna, lariska might choose to replace her prosthetic as a way of distancing herself from the shadowed one, and how she might replace it with something in memory of nidikhi
OOH I LOVE THIS A LOT!!! I never really thought of Lariska changing her prosthetic but GOD GOD THAT MAKES SOOOO much sense. Just, it’s this getting rid of bad memories  but also really symbolic of how she lets him go.
AAAAAAA I LOVE THE IDEA OF HER REPLACING IT WITH SOMETHING THAT IS IN MEMORY OF NIDHIKI. THe question now is though...what exactly would that something be

idk if you have posted it already somewhere, but is there a chance you could post the gif form of the amane pose from the nonbinary bang and amane post, i think it's his round win animation(not like edited with the nb colors, i just mean the animation)
i know you mostly do color palette requests, but i figured it was worth asking since it's similar to other stuff you post, although it's understandable if you cannot or do not want to
thanks either way!!!

Dunkleosteus, designed by Fumiaka Kawahata, folded with a 6-inch sheet of kami paper
really good folding experience!!! remarkably clear and readable given that the instructions were all in japanese and i was working just from the diagrams. really only a few difficult points(particularly the lower jaw, i'm not certain i did that quite right, but i think it's close enough)
it captures the bony look quite well in my eyes, especially up at the head. i think it does feel a little flimsy for most of the folding process, however, up until the very end where a crimp is used to lock a lot of the structure and to add dimensionality to the model

Death's Head Hawk Moth(Acherontia Lachesis)
CW: Insects

design by victoria serova, folded with double sided tissue foil, design was slightly modified by me
very cool design imo, does a pretty solid job of emulating the color distribution of the real thing(though my choice of yellow wasn't perfect)
pretty rough folding process sadly, lots of folds that aren't suited to foil paper in combination with folds that work best with foil paper, making it tricky to do all of it well the main weak points of the design in my opinion are some of the legs being rather short and the antenna being far too thick, but everything else is quite strong i'm somewhat curious about how well this design could be adapted to fold other moths tbh
if you've enjoyed this artwork, please consider donating to this fundraiser! this family has suffered extensively during the ongoing genocide, and their fundraiser is currently still quite low on money(€220/€60,000 as of posting). their fundraiser is vetted on line 166 of this document, as well as by multiple other accounts. thanks in advance for any donations!

squid, design by hisao fukui, folded with 6-inch standard origami paper really enjoyable folding process, lots of interesting creasing, and of course i appreciate the accurate tentacle-arm situation i wonder if maybe a thinner paper would have been better, since the arms want to fan upwards a bit, and the cone got slightly ripped from the sheer amount of layers involved maybe something with foil, so i could shape the eyes and beak better all in all really good though

origami Helicoprion, design by Kawahata Fumiaki, folded with 6-inch(i think) kami paper design is from Extinct Animals in Origami
this design is a bit weaker than the Dunkleosteus from the same book in my opinion, since the dorsal fin isn't bilaterally symmetrical, and the body doesn't have anything locking it together at the bottom, so it opens up there easily(the dunkleosteus also kind of has this issue, but certain structural elements make it a little more stable) that said, it's worth noting that the dunkleosteus is not quite in line with current approximations of what its body shape likely actually was, while, to my understanding, the helicoprion is fairly close and, of course, this design is much earlier in the book, which doesn't seem to be working in chronological order or anything, so it's likely also meant to be easier, hence why it might be a bit weaker
that said, many aspects of the folding process are quite nice! making the gills was very interesting(if rather challenging for me), and the process for folding the tooth whorl is very fun, and something similar might be suited to be used in a model based on a nautilus
in all, i do quite like this little guy, and i think he will fit well with my dunkleosteus in what is, i guess, some sort of small aquatic animal origami collection(as opposed to my larger origami insect collection)

cw for insects as usual
design is a dragonfly by Robert Lang, folded on double tissue paper
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
very nice folding sequence imo, though the head is kinda flimsy i think(the wings as well, but that's kind of fitting and thus isn't as bothersome). i'm planning on folding another of these, so i may try a foil layer to give it a bit more structure

cw insects again
Tumblr media Tumblr media
got back to doing my origami after some deeply boring experiences with a very disappointing insect design
this one is really good, however!!! it's by HuengGue Maeng, folded on 7-inch(i think?) double-layered tissue paper
it's quite easy to fold, relatively speaking, and out of the grasshopper designs i've folded it has proportions that most closely match my mental concept of what a "grasshopper or locust" should look like i also just love that thorax section, it looks delightful imo
i think the only major weaknesses with this one are that the limbs have lots of layers and they can get misaligned from the sheer number of them easily, and that the antennae are a bit overly thick, but these are pretty common with origami insects and there's only so much to be done there
the back legs could be longer as well, but i think some small modifications could be made to potentially facilitate that i think this could be a good model to use to start trying out varnish and other techniques for strengthening and prettying up a finished model, since they're easy to make with smaller sheets in case i fuck one up

i've been working on this off and on for the past month, and i finally got it done! this is my first time folding this design, so it's a little rough, but i think it still looks pretty good
the design is robert lang's samurai helmet beetle, specifically the one from Origami Insects and Their Kin, and it was folded with a sheet of double-layered tissue paper
