complicated relationship with taob be damned i have never peaked higher than i did when i was studying tragedies for my english class and wrote the fever dream chapter
#I WAS WRITING AT LEVELS NEVER BEFORE SEEN. OFF THE CHARTS CUNTISM. TRAGIC LEXICON LEFT RIGHT AND CENTRE#'you scream with your lungs and you pray with your knees. but begging?#begging was in the hands. zuko's were empty. stained sunset red. /look. look at what you did/.'#'white bones charring until zuko remembered hearing of fortune-tellers - how they read the heat-cracks#of oracle bones. zuko wondered what the breaks in his skeleton lamented of. if he could read these scars#would they weep? /look. look at all that red/.'#'/look. cut-neck and red-stained. you wanted this/. the auditorium watched enraptured#whispering into ears. /this is the best part. the anagnorisis/.'#'this was a tale of honour and redemption. the playwright had woven zuko’s hamartia into his every action#doomed from the beginning. /you always thought it was anger that would damn you#that patronymic fury that snarls in your chest/. the director was grinning. /it is not. your fatal flaw has always been shame/.'#'redemption comes with the price of regret but you don't regret. you don't regret any of it'#'A GOOD TRAGEDY NEEDS A SCAPEGOAT; A TRAGIC HERO. ZUKO WOULD BE THEIRS. A MASK. A BOW. APPLAUSE. FURY. SHAME.#/LOOK/. THE THING WITH THEATRE IS THAT YOU PLACE A CHARACTER ONTO A STAGE WHERE EVERYONE CAN SEE HIM#AND YOU SHINE LIGHTS ON HIM TO ILLUMINATE EVERY ANGLE AND YOU MAKE HIM SAY THINGS THAT RESONATE. A TRAGEDY IS JUST A DECLARATION#/LOOK. LOOK AT ALL IVE DONE AND GIVE ME REDEMPTION REGARDLESS. LOOK AT EVERY FLAW. TAKE ME AS YOUR ANTI-HERO. FORGIVE ME ANYWAY/#IT WAS ABOUT BEING SEEN. IT WAS A CRY FOR HELP'#like???? GIRL OKAYYYYYY <33333 truly give me a theme i like and i will run fucking RINGS#taob

can i be honest for a sec? i kind of don’t like the david tennant + catherine tate much ado.
truly just personal preference but i hate the direction of the confession scene, it takes all of the gravity and weight out of the previous scene, hero’s humiliation, claudio’s betrayal, beatrice’s anger…. i understand the intention: love is a funny, embarrassing, human thing! but i also think that the tone shift ends up being so jarring and bizarre and ultimately doesn’t work very well with the themes of the text.
anyways everyone go watch the 2019 shakespeare in the park Much Ado it’s on archive.org and it’s FANTASTIC!

You know who’s childhoods I think are severely overlooked.
The lost hero trio + Reyna.
Piper was neglected by her father and had no motherly figure. She resorted to stealing things to try and get his attention because she was at the point that she didn’t care if it was good or bad attention.
Jason was given up basically as a peace treaty by his mother at the age of 1-2. He had to survive the wolf house—which as how it was described and how it was for Percy at 16—it wasn’t exactly a nice vacation. He then made it to Camp Jupiter and started training, along with getting marked.
Leo watched his mother die from the Earth Goddess and had to go through many fosters homes. His own family called him the devil and blamed him for Esperanza’s death. He eventually decided to run away because he didn’t like anyone he lived with. It’s even mentioned in TLH how Leo has even been sewers before.
Reyna had to be surrounded by her father who was an awful parental figure and he was killed off by her. She then went on the run—similar to Leo— with Hylla. The two of them have been captured and had to fight pirates and others. Then at some point, near the age of 10, made it to Camp Jupiter.

I meant more of a… in relation to how she’d feel about saving her father from the Canon. How would she balance her father’s willingness to sacrifice for the greater good versus her desire to hypothetically save his life? And how would she connect that to Miles?
Ohh! Thanks for the additional context!
She’d probably be pretty damn conflicted!! She’s a hero! She wants to save people!! But, she’s also a kid and now has peers who are older and more experienced than her telling her about Canon and how “things are supposed to go” to preserve the Multiverse. Miguel has “proof” that deviating would lead to disaster!
And she’d try to find comfort in the idea of fate, I think. Presumably, after ITSV, she experiences some BIG Tragedies and likely gets support and empathy from the other Spideys who’d be like “sorry, kid, it just Has to be this way.” I don’t think that mentality would stick, at first? Maybe she’d run an algorithm or calculations or make theories because (like Pavitr like Miles like Hobie) she’d believe that there’s a way to do Both, save people despite Canon and preserve the Multiverse.
But maybe the math keeps just not Working and she just gets tired and more Tired. And what does it really matter? It’s not like she can go back in time and save her dad anyways…. He made his choice (heroic yet tragic) and she’s had to mourn and live with it ever since. It’s not like she could’ve stopped all the Other Things that have happened since, either…
And then comes Miles. A friend, a teen she’d dismissed at first cuz he wasn’t up to snuff and there were other more competent Spideys to collaborate with… then their attempt to keep him safe failed and he proved them all Wrong. Peni watches as he learns about Canon Events and realizes his dad is going to Die.
But he doesn’t accept it. He’s going to prove them wrong, save his dad, stop Spot. He has the chance, and he’s going to Take It.
Maybe that wakes Peni up from this fugue state of resignation. She’s a Hero. She Wants to Save People. She didn’t get that chance with her dad, but she can sure as hell help Miles save his.

me when parallels are drawn between the imposition of parenthood on describing an oppressive country on its people and the imposition of law on describing an oppressive parent on their child. me when both dynamics fuel each other to create a culture of celebrating violence to distract people from the neglect their authority figures place on them.

am i the only one who despises the concept of the batfamily shit. firstly that man would NOT procreate, he would not willingly put a kid thru the stress of not knowing if their parent is gonna make it home. absolutely not. the only reason romance is an option for him is bc his self worth is in the can so obvi to him he can see them going on living if he happens to go splat. and bro would not recruit people/children to fight with him just bc they have similar tragic backgrounds?? girlie never wanted to inspire people, he wanted to be a symbol for them. girlie does it so no one else has to.
second. ???? bro does NOT work well w others aside from old men. let alone fellow do gooders. girlie uses, manipulates and flips on his allies CONSTANTLY from situation to situation. girlie befriends grizzled old men n wacky lesbians exclusively.

@paraleech sent: Watching Sonic perform the spindash many times before has inspired the little critter to attempt the same move -- but without any proper genes to give her that relatively unique skill, she ends up merely somersaulting forward. A lot. And it only takes about 7 rolls before the child flops face-first in dizzy exhaustion. " Bweh.. "
Tumblr media
Olympia watches the child, brow quirked, as they start somersaulting forwards. It isn't hard to guess what the attempted move was. As far as she was aware, the spindash was a somewhat rare ability. She's only seen her friend group manage it, after all. That and a few rare enemy, but the point still stands.
She crouches down beside Fyuga, tilting her head as she chuckles.
"Heya, bud. Whatcha doin' over here?"

the thing about rey palpatine is that if star wars had actually planned it and thought things through, it could have been an actually very interesting idea. we could have had a trilogy centered around rey, granddaughter of one of the galaxy’s greatest villains who rejects his legacy by choosing the light, and finn, who was supposed to be a nameless, faceless enforcer for evil who refused to be that and defected to do good, and poe, trying to follow in his parents’ footsteps as a hero and member of the resistance, facing off against kylo ren, son of of two of the galaxy’s greatest heroes who nonetheless fell to darkness. but unfortunately they didn’t plan it or think things through so it’s just. very very stupid.

For day three fave quote: I was genuinely stuck but like all three of them I think describe my favorite aspects of his character perfectly
-“it’s ok to be be scared right? Everyone is scared just means everyone gets a chance to be brave.”
-“I ain’t done so this isn’t done…one more.”
-“You’re only crazy if it doesn’t work right?”
Something about how Duke is not only unafraid to move forward but always pushing to do so just resonates with me. Maybe I’m impatient or dramatic but I cannot stand a character who lets the story happen to them and Duke was never that and will never be that because even when things are ok for him personally he still needs to do something. That last quote was specifically something he said as a kid to Bruce (no memories sad) who was questioning him on getting ready to beat riddler using a crossword 💀
