Shonen Onmyoji Chapter 11 Summary

The chapter began with Masahiro having a dream that Seimei left his five year old self at Kifune Shrine [1]. When Masahiro woke up he noticed Mokkun sleeping on his lap and bonked him on the head.

Masahiro's parents, Yoshimasa and Tsuyuki came into the room to check on him. Tsuyuki can't see Mokkun and the other Twelve Divine Generals though. Mokkun complained to Yoshimasa about Masahiro being unreasonable.

Masahiro went to another subject on how his 'taunki' grandpa tied him to a tree and left him by himself at Kifune. Mokkun was aware of this incident because he was the one watching Masahiro in secret his in humanoid form.

Seimei entered the room and greeted his son, daughter-in-law and grandson. Masahiro told everyone he was leaving. Yoshimasa asked his son where he was going as today was his abstinence [2]. Seimei wondered dramatically how Masahiro could have forgotten that. Masahiro got annoyed and walked out of the room. Seimei's son and daughter-in-law were side eyeing him and Seimei told them that Masahiro was not good at thinking and that he used to be that way too.

The next day Masahiro was undergoning soms onmyoji training and was greeted by the Minister of the Left, Fujiwara no Yukinari. Yukinari went to check up on Masahiro to see how he was doing and Mokkun took advantage of the situation that Yukinari couldn't see him by standing on his shoulder and patting his head.

Yukinari asked Masahiro if Seimei was there as he was thinking of holding a requiem ceremony before reconstruction begin, but Masahiro told Yukinari that his grandfather was not there at the moment.

After Yukinari left Masahiro. Masahiro is put off by what Mokkun did to Yukinari because he couldn't see him. Meanwhile Masahiro overheard some men talking about a oni woman hammering nails every night.

When Masahiro revealed himself they recognized him as Seimei's grandson, which annoyed him, but told them that everything will be fine. He then talked to Mokkun and said that he was going to prepare to head to Kifune Shrine.

Seiryu [3] the Wood General was watching Masahiro and Mokkun and when Masahiro noticed him Mokkun told him to let him be because Seiryu hate hims and he also hates Seiryu

The scene shift where Keiko is talking to the Chinese Yao (妖) [4] about getting revenge on Akiko and the yao was pleased that Keiko would help him bring Akiko to him.

The chapter ended with Masahiro visiting Akiko and she informed him that she really needed his help to save Keiko.

Reading Shamrock’s lines about wanting to be unforgiven, wanting to kill the thing that has never forgiven him, hurts even more with what’s going on with Lily right now

I’m also having a lot of feelings because when shamrock describes himself… doesn’t that sound like shuuhei? When he describes Yoshimasa, or at least the delusion of him… doesn’t that sound kind of like Tsurugi?

This scene broke my heart btw. Her listening to the last voicemail her husband ever sent her because she’s blind and his voice is all she has left of him.

That’s probably why Strike went out of their way to include a scene of her being glad to see Gray again, too. Because she says Shamrock’s voice is nostalgic and reminders her of when Yoshimasa was laughing together with him. (Image limit means I can’t include it rip. I’m on mobile exclusively for the next month or so which is also why I’m using the less than ideal official translation

“What is that guy […] really afraid of?” If wrath is a shield against fear and pain, what Shuuhei is most afraid of is not being able to prevent loss. Not being able to protect the people he loves.

That’s why shooting Iduna rattles him so badly. He wanted to kill the threat so badly that he not only forgot what he was even fighting for in the first place, he became the very thing his loved ones needing protecting from

remember that touma was part of tsubaki's subjugation squad

he was more likely a teenager at this time, basing it on the fact that when shamrock went to have his revenge, tsurugi was a teenager, and he has ten years age gap with touma

yoshimasa was more than willing to sacrifice himself to protect tsurugi

even though he didn't do the same for grey. but. see. he's being consistent here. back when they were running away from tsubaki and back when he shielded tsurugi, yoshimasa made the same choice: to save the young by sacrificing the old

and in the end yoshimasa's best friend couldn't let a kid die either

Okay, this is like a continuation of two of my theories and I'm wondering if I'm onto something.

So I wondered if the count could have originally been a werewolf based on the fact that he seems to have always been immortal, gear saying that his kind has a technique to seperate a part of their spirit from them while pointing at his earing, that earing looking pretty similar to the pendants the count had on his necklace that seemed to contain the demons (probably sins he seperated from himself) and werewolves apparently being able to create descendants by sharing their life force with humans which apparently gives them and their human descendants special powers, just like the count letting humans drink his blood turned them into mages.

Now the only werewolf we've met so far is (neu)gear hatiwelt, a reference to the wolf hati in norse mythology who swallows the moon during ragnarok (doom of the gods). We even see gear use a technique that allowed him to temporarily swallow the red moon the antagonist have created to aid in the ritual:

In norse mythology hati also has a twin brother though, skalli, who swallows the sun during ragnarok. Could the count play the role of skalli? The preparations for the ritual to bring back the count did kind of block out the sun in tokyo, causing temperatures to drop and snow to fall in summer. Ragnarok too is preceded by a cruel winter:

The C3 tokyo branch uses characters from norse mythology for codenames, which makes it interesting to speculate if some characters in servamp will have a similar fate to their counterparts in ragnarok.

Ragnarok starts with the death of balder, a son of odin, caused by the deception of loki, the trickster.

Shuhei is called loki as a nickname by izuna, but shuhei is more like heimdall, the god of foreknowledge who has excellent eyes. Shuhei's ability to prepare for even unlikely situations is a recurring joke and his hawkeye ability allows him to see far and even through walls.

I think we can all agree that in reality the role of loki the trickster falls on mikuni. He lies, he cheats and tricks to get what he wants, he's charismatic and clever. Before he starts the ritual/ragnarok he kills tsurugi/balder:

This has already happened so the question is if the other characters will suffer a similar fate to their norse counterparts as well.

In ragnarok loki and heimdall end up killing each other, but while shuhei's and mikuni's relationship is complicated and at times antagonistic I don't really see them killing each other, but maybe shuhei will fight a mikuni clone and kill him and be injured by him.

Other important figures in ragnarok are odin and his son thor. We have no official character with the codename odin, but I think odin and touma might be linked.

Touma is currently wearing an eyepatch, meaning he's one-eyed like the wise allfather odin, who sacrificed one of his eyes for knowledge. Say what you want about touma, but he is smart and came close to figuring out how the ritual to create a servamp worked. Balder is odin's son and while they refer to each other as brothers touma and tsurugi's dynamic is somewhere between being father and son and brothers. Odin is also the father of thor and with both jun and tooru too injured to fight and mjölnir now in mahiru's hands I think mahiru can be counted as the new thor and unlike jun or tooru he is touma's/odin's son.

Odin and thor both die during ragnarok. Odin is swallowed by fenrir (a giant wolf and son of loki) while thor battles with jormungandre, a giant serpent, slaying the snake, but dying from the snake's poison only a few moments later.

So we don't know who fenrir could be. If he's not skalli maybe the count is fenrir? In some versions it's fenrir who swallows the sun, so I guess he could simply be both.

But maybe whatever I assume mikuni wants to do with tsurugi's corpse will turn him into fenrir? He did seem to want the corpse to be left as intact as possible:

and the corpse was gone when mikado woke up again, leaving only the blood behind. Tsurugi's character is also strongly linked to wolves, so turning him into fenris and having him fight/kill odin/touma would make narrative sense.

Mahiru on the other hand might end up fighting jeje/mikuni. Jeje is currently captured and mikuni was literally called a snake by higan in the most recent chapter so I guess mikuni counts as a snake alone too, but of course mikuni could go and free jeje and fight together with him against mahiru.

Mahiru is against killing, so I doubt he would slay mikuni on purpose, but there are also a bunch of mikuni clones running around right now that NEED to be killed so he could end up using lethal methods on the real mikuni by mistake I guess. Or he simply defeats him and/or jeje through other means. What I'm more worried about is that despite his victory thor dies from the snake's poison only a few moments later.

Thor is also not the only character mahiru has been linked to that dies at the end of the story from the poison of a snake. It's subtle, but both when mahiru was in kuro's mind the first time and later when mahiru and tsurugi's spirits talked with each after touma had shot mahiru he spent some time in a desert with a crashed airplane:

Which is a reference to "the little prince" by antoine de saint-exupéry, a novella that ends with the little prince getting bitten by a snake after the snake promised him it would bring him back to his home planet.

So...will mahiru win the fight, but still die? Hopefully he can be saved from that fate.

Do you have headcanons for team M?

Uh, sorry for taking forever to answer this. I haven't gotten a lot of asks like these before

I suppose a head canon of mine is that Shamrock's dislike of Sakuya doesn't actually have much to do with his suspicions of Sakuya's betrayal. Sakuya gets to keep having a living best friend who is their opposition (even if they are separated now). Shamrock probably tells himself that he killed Yoshimasa in order to prove his loyalty to Tsubaki rather than because he felt jealous and betrayed because Yoshimasa didn't meet his expectations. So the Sakuya-Mahiru friendship threatens his own narrative and it upsets him.

So Tsubaki said he went to ask all the servamps if they knew him. Ildio spends most of his time in Italy and Higan is Italian. So I think it's possible he made Higan his subclass when he went to go meet with Ildio.

Belkia may be less murderous than he seems at first glance. Considering that he used to be a doctor, you'd think he would be more aware of how to fatally stab someone. But most of the injuries he's shown to cause are non-lethal and his most complicated attack's main purpose is just a disappearing act.
