"Dajipur: Experience the wilderness in this sanctuary"
Dajipur is located on the border of Kolhapur district. The place is fully covered by bumpy mountains and dense forest. Dajipur is a small part of Kolhapur and is completely disconnected from human life. Besides being made in the Kolhapur tag it is declared as a "World heritage site" by UNESCO. It is a home of a lot of animals and birds.
History of the place:
In earlier times Dajipur wildlife sanctuary was known as the "Radhanagari wildlife sanctuary". Then in the year of 1958, this sanctuary was declared as the first wildlife sanctuary in Maharashtra by the Maharashtra forest department. From this day the sanctuary is known as the Dajipur wildlife sanctuary.
As more than 1091 population of bison is found here in the year of 2014 from this time this sanctuary is also known as "Bison sanctuary". This sanctuary is a Kolhapur tradition.
Significance of the place:
Dajipur is one of the important reserves of forest in the world. A lot of birds like vultures, eagles, jungle fowl, quails, plovers, sandpipers, owlets, doves, owls, nightjars, kingfishers, bee-eater, hornbills, woodpeckers, bulbul, flycatchers, warblers, wagtails, sunbirds, etc are seen here. Bison are mostly found here. Except for bison, there are wild deer, chital, and a lot of animals are found here.
Dajipur is a hilly area that is 1200 miles above sea level. It is famous for its hill station.
In this sanctuary, there are several temples. Bhagvati Devi is one of the important temples. It is a tourist visit spot and the place is famous for sunset. Ganangiri Maharaj math is another beautiful place which is located in Modesto of green forest.
There are a lot of rivers. Bhagavata, Dudhganga, Tulshi, Kallamma, and Dirba are four important rivers of this sanctuary.
How to reach there:
The best time to visit the Dajipur sanctuary is in March, April, May.
By air: Kolhapur airport is the nearest airport to this place. It is approximately 56 Km away from this place and will take around 1 hour and 37 minutes to reach here.
By road: Bus connectivity is extremely fast and affordable in Kolhapur. There are daily equipped regular buses connecting major parts of the country to Kolhapur.
By train: Kolhapur Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Dajipur. Once you go there you can take an auto, or a cab to reach the destination. It is 78 Km away from this place.
Things to do:
This is a very beautiful sanctuary. If you are interested in animals and birds it is the perfect place for you. You can enjoy the sunset from the beautiful temple, Bhagvati Devi. Hill station is also a very beautiful place for tourist attractions. You can enjoy the scenes of lakes from the resort. There is a watchtower, from there one can see the whole forest. And there is a facility of Jeep Safari, where you can enjoy sightseeing. You can also spend a very beautiful time with your family and friends and this is a place where you can take a lot of photos.
