hi, so i was able to stumble on something really interesting: an interview with the vampire one volume manga adaptation called "yoake no vampire" that came out shortly after the original movie did in 1994. as an adaptation it's very faithful to the book, just really condensed.

the first two chapters got scanlated into english from japanese 13 years ago, but the last one never was. unfortunately the japanese raws of the thing are no longer online but i was able to find a portuguese scanlation of the last chapter. i ended up doing what i would call "edited machine translation" on it (consulting a portuguese version of the original book to cross reference translations since a lot of dialogue was taken directly, checking dictionaries to confirm translations, redrawing some parts, etc). it's not perfect but i think it makes sense from beginning to end.

would people still be interested in me sharing? i would also include the portuguese "raws" of course (the translation group is defunct now but with credit to them ofc) i figured it might be a fun treat for anyone who's already read the book while we wait for the later episodes of the amc show (but also just for book!iwtv fans).

I'm reading Tale of the body thief for the first time and I have SO many questions.

Why is Lestat such a dum dum in this book?? EVERYONE warns him not to trust the shady guy and he doesn't listen. And when said shady dude betrays him, just like everyone one said he would, Lestat is like — surprised Pikachu face, who would have thunk it?!?

Also, It's a massive plot-hole that Reglan doesn't just kill Lestat the second they switch bodies to make sure no one comes looking for him. That's what he did with his previous victims, but with Lestat he just leaves him there to hopefully freeze to death, why? I am only on chapter 20 so maybe it's explained later, but it seems like there's always so many contrived situations conveniently there to save Lestat from his own stupidity. It's giving chosen one syndrome.

I love the scene where Louis almost accidentally kills Lestat. After a lifetime of roasting Louis for being a weakling, Lestat is so shocked that now HE is the weak one. Karma baby! The whole exchange is hilarious — Lestat realizing that throwing a temper tantrum won't work, so he is like—okay, let me try to seduce him instead. 😂

And I resent Anne for writing 2 straight sex scenes— one of which is a fucking rape, but not giving us Lestat fucking a guy? why Anne?? Why won't you let our bisexual king fuck men too? Although, given that creepy pedo David Talbot was the only option on hand, maybe it's for the best.

Anyways, this book is a wild ride and I'm enjoying it way more than I thought I would.

yesterday I finished rewatching iwtv season 2 (bc my mother watched it), I know that the quality compared to the books is lower BUT MY GOD. Why the dialogues are so CORNY? Now that I continued reading the books, it's making me sick how they can't write even a bit how Anne Rice wrote her universe. Despite of that, Armand and Daniel are my favorites from the adaptation but I fear they will mess up their whole thing with Marius :/.

the loumand divorce is actually FUNNIER in the book, which i had the absolute pleasure to read earlier. if youre not aware, heres how it happens:

I wanted to forget old man yaoi, and yet it seemed I thought of it always. It was as if the empty nights were made for thinking of old man yaoi. And sometimes I found myself so vividly aware of old man yaoi, it was as if it had only just left the room and the ring of its voice were still there. And somehow there was a disturbing comfort in that.
