A Hanna-Barbera show that never was... here’s my rather late (but still heartfelt!) contribution to the amazing array of #DrawColumbo illustrations already submitted for an upcoming exhibition at Jam Bookshop in London!

Here I begin an overview of my favorite detectives of Italian TV. Starting with Marshal Rocca :)
Major marshal Giovanni Rocca, played by the great and dearly missed Gigi Proietti, is a seasoned soldier serving under the Carabinieri detachment of Viterbo.
A widower with three children, Rocca is very keen in solving even the most complicated cases. Very paternal and protective of his men, he never puts them (or himself) in danger for no reason. He's ironic and cheerful, as good at fighting crime as he stumbles in his complicated private life, always trying to balance it with his job.
The series, produced by Rai and Solaris Cinematografica, was broadcasted from 1996 to 2005, and is still one of Rai's greatest successes with peaks of ten million spectators per episode.
WHY I LIKE HIM: he's funny and wise, a great officer who cares for his men and a smart and knowing detective. He's the perfect embodiment of a Carabiniere. I have a sweet spot for them, I know from experience that they are very kind and patient, and helpful :)
I’m gonna go ahead and skip this weeks episode of Barnaby Jones... 😳 #tvdetectives #70s #tvguide https://www.instagram.com/p/CKrb6KKhTLH/?igshid=d4aazm27t9bd

What a wealth of riches we enjoy in this fandom! Do let us know if there are other fics that you want to share with the rest of us.
“Tenafly” was a TV crime-drama series that starred James McEachin and was part of “The NBC Wednesday Mystery Movie” wheel for the 1973-74 season. Created by Richard Levinson and William Link, the mystery masterminds behind popular shows like “Columbo” and “Murder, She Wrote,” it was the one of the first TV drama series to star an African-American character as the main protagonist.
Private eye Harry Tenafly was a happily married, middle-class family man who had given up being a cop to work for a better paying position at a big L.A. detective agency. One of the few TV detectives who relied more on brains and solid legwork, Tenafly had no interest in gunfights, fisticuffs, or chasing beautiful women. Nevertheless, trouble seemed to find him anyway.
Way more action implied in this poster then you ever get in the series but man.... gotta love the foreign release artwork. Everyone's (rightly) talking about how great Powers Boothe was as a villain, but I loved him as Philip Marlowe in the Marlowe TV series in the 1980s. I think that was the first thing I ever saw him in. Perfect casting and one of the all-time great Marlowes. #RIPPowersBoothe #PowersBoothe #Marlowe #PhilipMarlowe #Chandler #RaymondChandler #detectives #TV #TVdetectives
