Twilight Sparkle paced up and down the castle halls, frantically flipping through the books in her magical grasp. She was going through another one of her classic freakout moments, this time concerning her daughter, Snowcone Syrup.

“I just don’t know what’s wrong with her! We’ve tried getting her a tutor, we’ve tried grounding her, we’ve tried everything and nothing has worked! And she’s only getting worse! Not even my books have the answers!”

Her wife, Tempest Shadow, watched her calmly. 

“Well getting all worked up isn’t going to help us, now is it? Come on, sit down, breathe.”

Twilight sat down next to her, her attempts at breathing quickly turning to hyperventilating.

Tempest rolled her eyes, stifling a smirk.

“You always get like this when there’s a problem you can’t solve. Teenagers are like this, she’s just a hard one. She’ll probably grow out of it.”

“Do you see her behavior listed HERE?”

Twilight shoved a textbook in her face.

“I’m telling you, there’s got to be more we’re not finding! What if she’s depressed? What if she has anxiety? Two kids with anxiety, where is all this coming from?”

“I can’t imagine.”

Tempest pushed the book out of her face.

“She’s barely a teenager. Let’s wait and see what happens before we start diagnosing her. Maybe there’s something we haven’t tried yet.”

Twilight perked up.

“You’re right! Back to the books!”

Tempest chuckled, following her wife as she raced to the library.

“Back to the books we go.”

it’s Twilight and her wife who is the only horse in the world taller than her (not really but they are both really tall) i wrote a little about their relationship here but i’ll stick it under a readmore too

“I wanted to headcanon Twilight as one of the tallest of the six (maybe the tallest?) post-ascension...but I also like the Twi/Tempest height different they had in the movie. A dilemma...until I realized I can just make Tempest frickin’ HUGE. She’s got a mixed earth pony/unicorn (saddle arabian) lineage, two of the biggest pony breeds. After the events of the movie, Twilight decided to enlist this big hunk of horse as her guard against any future threats. Romance ensues...Twilight marrying a former threat against Equestria was probably a pretty huge scandal, but as the officially named heir to the Equestrian throne nobody says anything to her face about it. Once Twilight takes the throne Tempest is her official guard and consort. I like to think that sort of relationship becomes common for rulers during the hundreds/thousands of years Twilight is immortal ruler. Long after Tempest has died their epic love story is still told and glorified like an ancient legend...something that probably makes Twilight smile when she’s not thinking about what a curse her immortality has become now that everyone she’s ever loved has died. TWILIGHT SPARKLE SAD IMMORTALITY MOMENTS. As for Tempest: She doesn't have a cutie mark, only trauma and emotional scars. Her magic is chaotic and scary, perfect for a guard pony. Stay away from her tiny wife (who is larger than the majority of Equestria's citizens) she is very protective. She knows how dangerous the world can be...“

The Gala was intense for everyone involved. One wrong word and Snowcone’s night was ruined, once again her parents didn’t listen to her or respect her boundaries so she couldn’t help but lash out. Twilight and Tempest felt absolutely awful in retrospect. They’d decided to give Snowcone some space as they themselves mulled over what had happened.

Twilight held her head in her hooves, freaking out as she usually did, but this time more distraught.

“Oh Gaia, I’m such a bad mom! I KNEW what not to say and I said it anyway! No wonder she hates me!”

“You’re not a bad mom, Twilight!”

Tempest’s own emotions were running high as she scolded her. She couldn’t bear to see her wife talk so negatively about herself, plus she was carrying guilt of her own.

“I made it worse anyway. It was like two against one for her, maybe if I’d stayed out of it she wouldn’t have stormed off.”

“I don’t know, I think it would have been the same whether you were there or not.”

Then Twilight remembered something.

“What was it you said to her? ‘You’re lucky you have a mother at all?’”

Tempest hesitated, she knew where this was going.

“Yes.”

“What was that all about? I know you said you didn’t really have parents, but is there something you want to tell me? What you said seemed a bit...personal.”

Tempest walked away a short distance, silent as she pondered how exactly she was going to handle this. This wasn’t something she really liked to talk about. She also didn’t want Twilight to see just how hesitant and uncomfortable she was as she spoke.

“Snowcone is so, so much like her. My mother had some kind of mental illness, a lot like Snowcone’s. Angry outbursts, easily driven to tears, everything she has. I didn’t want to believe at first, I really hoped it was just hormones. Because I don’t want her to meet the same fate that she did.”

Twilight listened intently, all the mysteries of this whole situation finally starting to make sense.

“What happened to her?”

Tempest gulped.

“Something we never, EVER want for Snowcone.”
