What characters do you headcanon as lesbians? Not just for Encanto, but all your fandoms!

I'm glad you asked me, friend!

Hmm...let's see...there's Isabela and Luisa in this fandom, we all know that already.

But besides them, my favorite lesbian headcanon would have to be Ty Lee from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Each of her interactions with boys just screams comphet, especially the nameless bums on the beach! And she has much better chemistry with Azula and Mai, and--look, regardless of what you think of either the Tyzula or Mailee ship(I am okay with both), you gotta admit that Ty Lee having feelings for either of the two ladies is infinitely more believable than her having feelings for a boy. Especially since she reminds me very strongly of myself: we are both bubbly, girly, pink-loving, and friendly with people we are close to, and often dismissed and not taken seriously, yet tougher and cleverer than we look. Her interactions with both genders reminds me of my own struggle with comphet and grapple to come to terms with my lesbian identity, it all reads as incredibly lesbian to me, to the point where I feel uncomfortable(if not personally attacked) when I see her in m/f ships. And with how widespread femme erasure is, Ty Lee being a proud femme lesbian would be awesome rep to have! but the show's over so 😥 but oh well, I can still have it as a hc, it gives me comfort all the same!

From the same fandom is Azula. For much of the same reasons as Ty Lee, except her comphet would be even stronger. but once she gets over it and undergoes a redemption arc I can see her and Ty Lee being an incredibly loving power couple together lol.

Anyway, I also hc Misa Amane as a lesbian, a hc which is only strengthened by this post.

I also hc Sonia Nevermind and Chiaki Nanami from Danganronpa as lesbians bc I ship them and they're way too pretty and femme to get with boys hahahahhahahha~!

Also, Queen Elsa, obvi!

Also from Disney, Charlotte la Bouff definitely had a thing for Tiana and only thought she wanted the prince because it's a "required" part of the fairytale dream and I will not be convinced otherwise. In the sequel it will turn out that Naveen has a pretty sister or female cousin whom Charlotte will marry so that she and Tiana can be sisters/cousins-in-law and both have their princess dreams!!!

And for live-action movies there's Regina George from Mean Girls(this one doesn't even need explaining, it's literally the same as miss pyromaniac princess above but without the abusive dad lol), Jennifer Check from Jennifer's Body.

All the Vocaloid girls minus a select few are lesbians because I say so.

Also from the mha fandom: Mina/Jirou/Tsuyu are a poly lesbian couple, perhaps a qpr since Mina is canonically cupioromantic and I'd hate to take that away from her.

And finally, Annabeth Chase.

the gaang's + the dangerous ladies' baby gay/bi awakenings:

aang: it was absolutely kuzon :') aang was lucky enough to have an accepting upbringing and had this very sweet puppy crush on one of his best friends without any shame or repression.

katara: has this deep admiration of an outspoken and relatively unknown indie singer-songwriter from the southern water tribe who speaks earnestly and passionately about environmental justice and decolonialism in her interviews and songs and katara loves her on account of her politics and her voice, but watching her interviews stirs something in her. the next time she goes to a party she ends up making out with a girl.

sokka: watched star wars a tonne growing up and absolutely had a thing for harrison ford as han solo. assumed, at first, that this was because he wanted to be *like* han solo, but realises he was gravely mistaken (he and suki later bond over crushing on/gender envy for harrison ford as han solo).

toph: she claims she always knew, but it was definitely from observing numerous female earthbending wrestlers perform over that period of months she performed as the blind bandit, then that 0.5 seconds they spent with june that sealed the deal.

suki: miss kyoshi herself, of course. suki wanted to be kyoshi and wanted to love like kyoshi and when she went to the kyoshi island and joined the kyoshi warriors - who we all know are gay as hell, full of girls who are confident and strong and could absolutely kick ass as well as being affectionate and romantic and gentle around other girls - and suki absolutely felt like she had finally come home. what was actually more of a surprise was realising she was also into boys! this involves a very embarrassing boyband phase that she refuses to talk about in public.

zuko: an interpretative dancer from a minimalist theatre production who performed the king of dragons' dance while topless and covered in bright body paint. poor zuko did not stand a chance.

ty lee: i think any hot girl villain from a horror movie would have done it but the hot girl villain in question here just so happened to be jennifer check from jennifer's body.

mai: also watched jennifer's body with ty lee.

azula: literally any time any girl beat her at anything, be it ty lee at dance dance revolution or mai at a game of checkers or katara at a geometry test, azula would swear to herself to annihilate her newly found match in a crushing defeat at their next encounter and would not be able to stop thinking about them her upcoming victory for the next six months. she did not watch jennifer's body with mai and ty lee on account of plotting her latest comeback plan and spending her evening studying advanced geometry very intensely.

Which horror films or novels do you think fit the ATLA characters?

Oh I like this ask! I love horror movies and books so, so much! 

Azula - It. Like Azula this novel/movie centers on fear as a main theme but also (mostly with Beverly) shows the impact of heavy themes like abuse. But (as stated in one of my other asks) fear is such a central theme to Azula, she likes playing on fear which is essentially what It does.  

I can also see her as pretty much any Lovecraftian story as those are just bizarre and hard to comprehend. Lovecraft’s works just have such obscure meanings and loads of symbolism. I feel like Azula would really enjoy that sort of thing for the same reason she’d enjoy mystery novels.

If we factor in shows Haunting Of Hill House is another good one! This one is (imo) a very respectful and well nuanced take on mental illness. The mentally ill aren’t depicted as monsters so much as the mental illness is the monster. If that makes sense. Its a show that leaves the viewer thinking because it’s so open ended.

Maybe even Insidious as it leaves a lot to the imagination. I feel like She’d just be fond of movies that make you think and don’t rely on cheap scares like jump scares. Basically Azula is movies and books that make you think.

Mai - The Audition. Badass lady stages an audition and basically tortures the men she lures in.

TyLee - Neon Demon. This movie is literally about the beauty/modeling industry. It’s a symbolism heavy movie about how predatory and competitive it is and how the industry preys on and corrupts young women. Like I was thinking of TyLee & Azula the whole time I watched this one. Ty Lee is a character who is portrayed as very innocent (just like Jesse) and is often times sexualized and harrassed.

Zuko - Eli. Frail and sick boy is taken to a house where he is subjected to ‘treatments’ to try to cure him. The viewer doesn’t know if he is being haunted or if the nurses are doing something to him. I won’t dive too much into it because the reason I picked this for Zuko is just one huge spoiler.

Iroh - Saw. Here me out lol. (SPOILERS for those who haven’t seen it).Basically you find out at some point during the franchise that Kramer’s whole goal was to make people who took their lives for granted, wasted their lives, and or harmed others realize what they had or did wrong. Iroh has both helped people do this (in a less gritty way) and has been someone who has done somethings wrong and saw the error in it.

Sokka - Any of the Scary Movie flicks. They’re funny but also really clever imo. 

Katara - Carrie. Girl starts off soft and innocent, she gets bullied and unleashes absolute hell. I can also see her being Stepford Wives as it is pretty much a protest to traditional marital roles.

Aang - Final Destination. Mostly because this deals with a divine omnipresent death. Aang has a connection to the spirit world and is, to some degree, a god in his world. You can’t cheat death and ya can’t cheat the Avatar.

Toph - Mama. Toph gives me feral gremlin vibes and this movie features kids that went feral. I can also see her being something badass like Resident Evil.

Yue - Apollo 18. It’s a moon horror movie. xD

Suki - Not quite sure for her but maybe Jennifer’s Body? Basically the hot cheerleader develops a craving for human flesh. Common consensus is that it is commentary about how men obsess over women and that Jennifer basically has her vengeance. I’ve always seen Suki as at least a little bit of a feminist.  

Jet - Cabin In The Woods. On the surface it’s checks off every cliche. One of the protags is a stoner and the other is one of the jock types. But by the end this movie is much more complex than that. 

Ozai & Ursa - The Shining. HEEEEERE’S OZAI! In all seriousness, the central theme in this is domestic abuse.

Bonas Chan: Piranha. Literally this movie was one big frat party.

 ***** Childish Gambino has the song of the summer with the brilliant ‘This is America’.  I am so reminded of Jean Luc Goddard and also the Talking Heads when I watch the video and yet it is so on point today. . Donald Glover is the star of the year with the fab season of Atlanta. The coat of many colors with the FUBU shirt episode was a beautiful reminder of thy child, thy self. The turn as host and musical guest on SNL was a triumph, best show of the season. His role in Ron Howard’s movie, Solo will only make him burn brighter!!

***** Arrested Development came back for season 5. We have wonderful things in there from seasons past to make us smile and new catchphrases to carry on in the future. This is just the first half of the season and the binge went by fast. We will have to be content with great new Arrested memories like APB (ah, poor Buster), hour mouth, peanut pockets, trophy cobbler, break up cactus, will he won’t he  and Strum! I laugh just thinking about them. I was particularly fond of the Howard family get together, Rance Howard was a national treasure. I was thrilled to see Kyle Mooney in the mix.

***** Days alert: I saw it coming.. Mexico?? Of course, Teresa had to be back.. Hooray!! ..It is time for Sonny’s new lover to go….
