Welcome home, world traveler!

Ciao Venice!

Art went to Venice! After touring the Piazza San Marco and the basilica, he decided to see the view across the lagoon. Pictured in the background is the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore. Designed by Andrea Palladio, this Renaissance building can be seen gleaming across the water. Art planned on crossing the lagoon via gondola to visit the church until it started raining, so he settled for a coffee in a cafe instead!

Home Sweet Rome!

It's already getting warmer in Rome and Art decided to spend some time inside the Villa Farnesina! Located in the beautiful Trastevere district of Rome, this Renaissance Villa was built in the 16th Century for a banker named Agostino Chigi. The house is filled with frescos done by Raphael, Il Sodomo, and several other famous artists. Art's favorite room was the Hall of the Perspective Views which was designed by Baldassarre Peruzzi in 1519. Greetings from London! 

After minding the gap exiting the tube in London, Art emerged from Westminster Station to behold a wonderful view of Elizabeth Tower at nighttime. Greetings from Ireland! 

Art was really living life on the edge when he paid a visit to the Cliffs of Moher. Are you even a UD student if you don't make a pilgrimage to the Cliffs? Located at the southwestern side of the Burren region in County Clare, Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher can reach a maximum height of 700 feet. This means if you take an unnecessary risk, you could experience a 7 second long plunge into the Atlantic Ocean! #TravelingThursday in Greece! Art made it to the Acropolis of Athens! He had his picture taken in front of the Parthenon, but soon got a bit tired of the hordes of selfie-stick wielding tourists. Art then decided to get away from all the tourists and hangout at the  Erectheion instead. Also located on the Acropolis, the construction of this unique temple was completed in 406 BC. Dedicated to the gods Poseidon and Athena, the Erechtheion is famous for its porch featuring several caryatids (statues serving as columns).

Greetings from Greece! Art is sitting on Mount Parnassos and overlooking the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, Greece, which has suffered all sorts of damage. After being built in the 7th century B.C., it had been rebuilt twice in antiquity after a fire and an earthquake, and now suffers from decay due to its soft, limestone material.

This week Art wanted to check out life in Southern Italy and spent a day in Palermo Sicily! After buying a few cannoli at a local pasticceria, he spent the afternoon at the Villa Giulia near the beach! Art loved all of the orange trees and the Roman Structures that decorate the park.

Art decided to explore the original streets of the Roman town Ostia. Located at the point where the Tiber flows into the Mediterranean, Ostia was Rome's great seaport throughout antiquity. Often called Ostia Antica, this vast archaeological site contains many well-preserved private homes as well as many examples of ancient civic and religious buildings. Hope everyone at the University of Dallas had a great ‪#‎groundhog2016‬. During Groundhog weekend, Art endured cold rain and powerful winds to snap a shot in front of the Eiffel Tower, which was completed in 1889 and remained the tallest in the world until 1930! While wandering around Rome, Art stumbled upon Piazza Navona and had a chance to gaze upon the Baroque style paintings inside the church of St. Agnes in Agony (shown on the left). This church contains an altar upon which the skull of Early Christian St. Agnes is displayed.
