United In Beauty Instagram Challenge - Week 1

So this month I’m finally doing a big Kbeauty Instagram challenge in an effort to become a true #influencer and maybe get some momentum into setting up a separate social account for all my beauty/skincare #content instead of bombarding all my friends with my thirsty-ass brand bait in an effort to try to get some free stuff. I will fully admit it: brands, send me stuff! I’m tired of spending all my own hard-earned money on all this shit, help me out here! 

The United in Beauty Challenge is being hosted all month long by three international skincare and beauty ‘Grammers: skinbeyondborders, missteasa, and beautyinhanguk, which is apparently a bespoke Kbeauty box that I’m going to have to find a way to get my mitts on, immediately.  I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been somewhat selective about which days I post, and combining some of the themes into single posts has been more efficient as well. Here’s a rundown of Week 1!

Day 2: Time Savers

Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes have been the unsung heroes of my skincare regimen for the better part of at least a decade now. Literally every day, sometimes as soon as I get home from work, I relish the sensation of wiping off the day’s stress and doom and pollution and smudges and the satisfaction of seeing it all on that little piece of cloth(? I’m not 100% sure what they’re made of, tbh). After some especially long days, sometimes it takes two to get rid of it all, and after that I feel refreshed and renewed, if not slightly more relaxed in knowing that I could pass out from exhaustion and not worry about having to take my makeup off beforehand.

But then I read that makeup remover wipes aren’t necessarily enough to truly get all the shit off your face at the end of the day, so I’ve been adding a cleansing water into the mix right before bedtime if I haven’t already done a nighttime routine (which is more often than not, these days). Dr Jart’s Dermaclear Microwater had been my favorite there for a while, but I had to try out some of this Son & Park Beauty Water to see if it lives up to all the hype. I don’t know that I’ve really seen all that much of a difference, frankly, and I might switch down to a less expensive drugstore cleansing water to save some $$, especially given that I tend to run through them pretty quickly. 

Day 3-4: Biggest Disappointment / Pleasant Surprise

I got this Dr. Jart Dermaclear Micro Milk Peel a little while ago in a Birchbox buying binge, and have been sadly underwhelmed by it. When I get a peel, I expect to fucking PEEL, but in hindsight, I guess it was somewhat unwise of me to expect a professional-strength peel in an at-home product. One day hopefully soon I will be financially able to get back into my regularly-scheduled aesthetician appointments to get my peel power back on, but until then, this particular peel does not do the trick.

The Graymelin Double-Strength Natural Eye Serum came into my life a year ago in a Mishibox, and it’s been a favorite of mine ever since. It layers so nicely under other serums and products for daytime wear, and it always feels fresh and cooling and soothing any time of year.

Day 5: Changed My Mind

When I first got this Earth’s Recipe Waterful Sun Gel I didn't really understand just how "waterful" it actually is, and I discovered (the hard way) that it didn't layer very well under makeup, which is kind of a must-have for any regular daily SPF for me. It’s HIGHLY emollient, which doesn’t bode well for combination skin and makeup. Lately, however, I've been trying to stop wearing makeup on the weekends, and I've discovered that this is a really great sun gel for no-makeup days. It absorbs nicely and doesn't have a heavy scent, but it also is really moisturizing and leaves a nice, plump glow without being too heavy or clogging my pores all up. And of course, you get that lovely SPF 50+ PA+++ UVA/UVB that pretty much every sun product, kbeauty or otherwise, should have.

Day 8: Worth the Hardship

I’m not sure if “worth the hardship,” is really the right way to define my love and obsession with The Lotus on general principle, but it’s definitely the most expensive line of Kbeauty products I’ve ever purchased, and they so far have definitely been worth the overall cost. And honestly, compared to some other luxury brands, the price point for The Lotus is not all that exorbitant. The sheet masks are a little more than I would usually spend on a sheet mask, but they’re high-quality enough to for me to rationalize, especially since The Lotus Essence is one of my definitive HG products, always and forever, and I’ve definitely been appreciating the simplicity and efficiacy of the Sleeping Pack.

Coming up in Week 2 of the United in Beauty Instagram Challenge: I went HAM on cleansers, exfoliators, toners, moisturizers, sunscreen and makeup!

Day 3 of the #uibchallenge hosted by @missteasa @skinbeyondborders & @beautyinhanguk Biggest disappointment for me these 3 are the worst products I’ve used. Now keep in mind that my skin is combination and sometimes sensitive. 💥Tony Moly Nutra Energy 100 Hours Cream with Argan Oil- as much as I may like argan oil for my hair, my skin hates it! I had a sample of this before the one in the picture and I used it and the next day I broke out like crazy!! It took a week, a lot of CosRX, Chica y Chico, masks and hydration for my skin to calm down. Sample will probably be toss today. 💥It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination in Medium- I got it on an ipsy bag, did not like it at all. Is supposed to brighten your eyes, but for me it looked like I had baked and forgot to remove the powder. Is very sticky, hard to blend and for some reason it creases fast! A HELL NO for me. 💥Papa Recipe White Flower clear up 8% AHA gel- This was one of the first products I used when I started to get into Asian Beauty. I tried to use it but could just not do it. Smells bad, it lingers and worst of all is super sticky!!! I tried to pat it in, let it dry, but still felt sticky. Also, every time I used it, I had to run and clean my hands. I could not stand the smell and sticky feeling it left.  As you can see the picture is not original, why? Because after a year of having the product, getting reaction and turning my skin sensitive, I tossed it. Reposting @kendelfe -- 🌹 Day 9 of the #uibchallenge with the prompt being 'Cleansers'! I decided to feature a fun, gimmicky cleanser that actually turns out to be really quite good! It's the Evita Beauty Whip Soap by Kanebo that went somewhat viral through its unique pumping mechanism that creates a foam rose for you to wash your face with. I decided to include a video instead of trying to describe what it looks like, and also because I want to show off how pretty it looks! 🌹 ~ 🌹 Thankfully bloggers have already done much of the work for me and discovered that the incredibly dense yet beautifully soft foam is called Motchiri and that it's aimed at older women, probably around my age or above (30+). It's supposed to help hydrate ageing skin lacking in moisture but I see no reason why younger people couldn't use it either, we all like a bit of moisture to our skin! 🌹 ~ 🌹 As for the product itself, I think it's a wonderful experience. The smell of roses is absolutely delightful, although a little on the stronger side so those who are scent sensitive perhaps beware. But the performance, the scent, the texture... it all plays together to make for almost a theatre of a cleanser and I love it! It performs quite well too, it leaves my face feeling slightly tight and a little squeaky which is a feeling I really enjoy after cleansing. I'm aware this usually means a high pH but it's never been a problem for my skin if I keep it well moisturised so I'm one of the girls in the thankfully not having to give a damn about pH camp (although it could be low for all I know!). But still, my face does not physically feel tight or dry to touch after use as I'd expect it to. It's well prepped for whatever toners I decide to slather into my now clean and soft skin and beyond! 🌹 ~ 🌹 I purchased this from @shopamabie (who I'm not affiliated with, I just happen to love this cleanser AND their shop!) and it's currently on special for $25USD as of writing! Day 27 of the #uibchallenge hosted by @missteasa @skinbeyondborders @beautyinhanguk Today is hydrogel and this is my pick the Cre8skin It’s real color hydro gel mask Pomegranate. Love the color and texture of this mask, kind of makes me feel like Halloween lol (If you know about Doctor Who, it made me feel like Vastra😂). I did take some of the extra pieces of the eyes and mouth and used it under my eyes for extra hydration and for my lips. 🍦Claims: moisturize, brighten and give radiance to your skin. 🍦Some ingredients: Seven patented Natural Pant Extract - Green tea, centella asiatica, Chamomile, Scutellania Baicalensis, Polygonum cuspidatum root, licorice, and rosemary. 🍦Smell: Amazing pomegranate smell very subtle but it hits you as soon as you open the mask. 🍦Essence: watery essence with a bit more leftover on the packing. Love that is not sticky! 🍦Fit: the mask is embossed, as soon as is on your face it will stay there and won’t slide. I loved that I had it on and didn’t have to lay down for it not to move, but I did some stuff around the house. 🍦Results: after 20 minutes, my skin felt hydrated, cool to the touch and smooth too. I did see a bit of brightening which is awesome. Day 26 of the #uibchallenge hosted by @missteasa @beautyinhanguk @skinbeyondborders Catching up! I know is multi step day, I didn’t have something that was more than 3 steps, so I went with this Isa Knox sample I had received. As far as I could tell this is an expensive brand, not only by the price (looked online), but by the richness of the serum and cream. 💥First step is the Age Focus phyto pro-retinol wrinkle serum- Very light and slight fragrant serum, also creamy but not oily.  💥Second step is the Age Focus Phyto Pro-retinol Light moisture cream- this surprised me since I expected a very rich and heavy cream, even though it said light cream, but again, light weight cream, non-greasy and subtle smell.  Both dried fast without that horrible sticky feeling I hate! Day 24 of the #uibchallenge hosted by @missteasa @beautyinhanguk and @skinbeyondborders Favorite ingredient! For me is Centella Asiatica and Houttuynia Cordata Extract. Centella Asiatica helps to soothe acne as well as an anti aging agents. As for the Houttuynia Cordata, it is a skin condition agent and I love how well it controls my oily skin. Best part? I love mixing them both and using it on my hormonal acne. It helps to soothe it, so well that by the next day it hurts less. Day 28 of the #uibchallenge hosted by @beautyinhanguk @skinbeyondborders @missteasa Today is yummy day and this is my pick the Crème Shop Honey & Lavender Sheet Mask. I picked this mask for this day, because love the smell of both honey and lavender, soothing and yummy as teas too! 🍯Claims: With honey to trap moisture to create silky, hydrated skin and with lavender to fight acne and soothe. 🍯Some ingredients: sodium hyaluronate, lavender extract, honey extract, centella asiatica extract, lavender oil & allantoin. 🍯Smell: The mask packs a punch with the lavender smell, which is perfect to relax. It is not artificial smell, which is great too. 🍯Essence: I would say is a watery essence almost soapy like, since it had a lot of bubbles. 🍯Fit: as always, the fit form these masks never disappoint! Covers nicely over the nose and eyes as well as the chin area. Mask didn’t move at all! 🍯Results: for some reason, it did sting a bit on my face, maybe is just my sensitive areas, but it was not something I could not tolerate. Afterwards it went away and the smell made me relax enough to lay down, which is amazing! After 20 minutes, my face soft, plump and hydrated without being sticky.
