5 Most Popular Walks in UK

The United Kingdom has some of the best walks in the world, with options ranging from full-day hikes to week-long adventures. Hikers can enjoy stunning coastlines, hills, and nature reserves, as well as a few nice pubs along the way.

The Helvellyn Path

This Helvellyn walk, which includes Striding Edge and Swirral Edge, is rightly regarded as one of the best in England. Helvellyn, which towers over the Eastern Fells, provides spectacular views, and this UK walk will take you past gurgling streams and peaceful tarns. 

The shortest route from Thirlmere to the summit is to take the Helvellyn Gill path and then return the same way. If you prefer a longer circular route, continue over Nethermost Pike and Dollywaggon, down Raise beck to Dunmail Raise, and back to the start.

Hadrian's Wall

In comparison to some of the longer walks on our list, this one is one of the shorter and more accessible, covering 134km of wild inland scenery and centuries of history.

The Hadrian's Wall walk follows the ancient walls built by the Romans, and while much of the wall has been lost, there are still around 10 miles that remain and tell their own incredible story. The trail itself largely follows the original wall's route from east to west, running from coast to coast across northern England. Hadrian's Wall is a popular trail walk with numerous stopping points, so the walk can be completed in a variety of ways. Hadrian's Wall is one of the UK's most historically significant long distance walks,best walks in the UK for its wild and ever-changing landscapes as well as the various Roman settlements and forts that it takes in along the way.

The Thames Path

The Thames Path is famous for its location and the stretch that runs through the heart of London. It encompasses 294 kilometres of riverside beauty that runs from the city to the countryside and back again. The Thames Path is one of the UK's longer but more user-friendly routes, offering a variety of stopping points along the way from Oxford to Woolwich. The full Thames Path takes about a week to 16 days to complete, though there are groups that complete the challenge in a matter of days for fundraising and awareness purposes. Because the walk is so central in the UK, passing through densely populated cities and towns, there are numerous lodging options.

Snowdon

If there's one thing you shouldn't miss on a trip to Wales, it's the epic summit of Snowdon. There are numerous routes to the summit of Snowdon, and we particularly enjoy the Snowdon Horseshoe route, as well as this route via the Miner's Track and, finally, this Snowdon walk. Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, has long been known as the place to go for one of the best hikes in the country. Indeed, this large, beautiful mountain attracts a steady stream of visitors, which means that during peak season with you UK visit visa  you may have to share the path with a large number of other walkers!

Walk to Slieve Donard

This Slieve Donard walk will take you up one of Northern Ireland's Mourne Mountains' tallest peaks, reaching 850m above sea level. Although it's a relatively short walk (4.6km to the summit), it gets quite steep in places and provides an excellent opportunity for a good workout! Because of its proximity to the sea, you can complete the entire 850-meter ascent, ascending to the prehistoric burial Cairns at the peak. This striking mountain is thought to have been sacred to the ancient peoples who once lived here, and it's easy to see why when you look up from the coast at the magnificent Slieve Donard.

Had a great morning on Friday presenting my #research from my dissertation (yes, that one from uni) and ideas on proposals to the North York Moors Disabled Advisory Group. I’m working with rangers from the @northyorkmoors on how we can improve information on, and the number and quality of accessible off-road trails in the National Park.
