If Sam Alito has a group chat, then I guarantee you its contents are indistinguishable from hundreds of thousands of Fox News-pilled chats around the country. It’s not just the mass but the elites who can be radicalized and endumbened, in other words. And the effects of those information environments might not even be similar to the effects on less sophisticated observers—they might be more radicalizing or totalizing for people who are motivated to believe and act in certain ways. Back in the day, politicians more or less learned about the world from the same newspapers and networks any voter did. Now imagine the reinforcing doom loop of politicos sending the same misinformation to each other that you can see on any Facebook politics page (well, that you used to).

Y'all things have really gone off the rails with my ultra rightwing zionist brother* and he got in a huge fight with my dad and stepmom last night after he said truly horrifying things about the situation in Israel (I will not repeat them, even as I suspect I'm slightly more zionist than y'all I am like also very pro-the health and humanity of the gazan people) and ANYWAY

What on earth am I supposed to say to that? he sends me a lot of memes about pickles but like I am very firmly not engaging with him about israel. I have, as the young people say, left this on read. It was on WhatsApp so he can see I saw the message. I don't want to further alienate him but I guess I do. Like, I do not want to say, "Noah I know you got in a fight with dad and lyle, I am not going to get into this but I think you will regret alienating them," bc he is so fucking fragile I never know what he's going to say to me. This is not a normal relationship in any way. Why did he TEXT me that!! Truly what do I say!!!

*backstory: my brother and his wife have decided to move to Israel in august bc the israeli government will pay for them to have IVF there. they have sold their house and shipped all their belongings and are living in a furnished apartment until then. They have never done IVF and have no idea if it will even work. We suspect they just want to make aliyah no matter what and this is their excuse. We do think he is wanted by the israeli government for tax evasion and draft dodging from the last time he lived there but he seems to think this is a non-issue. he also thinks that the rocket fire from iran over the weekend is a non-issue because of the iron dome, seemingly completely forgetting how traumatic he found living in Tel Aviv during the bombing 10 years ago and that was part of the reason he ended up having to come home.

For the WhatsApp chat, I initially wanted to use a simulator app to save some time, but all the simulator apps or online are WHACK for my perfectionist ass.

Also, Ghost uses a Samsung Galaxy S22 ultra 5G (bro's rich af I know it. You see what he does for a living?) so the interface is quite specific. So I asked my sis (who uses a samsung phone; not the S22 of course) to screenshot her chat interface with me.

After getting the screenshot, I used it as a template and voila! A perfect imitation of a WhatsApp chat!

The Icons are all a copy. The chat bubbles are made manually one by one because the lengths of the texts are different. The black BG is from Internet. The font I use is Segoe Variable Display.

Eu já perdi as contas de quantas vezes comecei esse texto e apaguei. Acho que depois de tantos anos juntas, depois de tantas cartas que te escrevi, no fundo, penso que palavra alguma vai ser suficiente para expressar os meus sentimentos por você. Como você me faz sentir. Como você me faz feliz. Mas eu juro que vou tentar, ok? Afinal, como eu mesma defendo: o óbvio precisa ser dito. Então lá vai...

Eu amo você. Eu amo como você me faz sentir, eu amo ter você na minha vida e sentir que, finalmente, estou vivendo um amor que mereço ter. Um amor com companheirismo, conversa, consolo, colo, aconchego, conselhos, momentos de irritação (rs). Um amor que não sinto mais que "isso é meu" e "isso é seu", mas sim "nosso". Aliás, foi com você que eu passei a usar mais a palavra "nosso". Com você eu passei a fazer tanta coisa, afinal. Eu aprendi tanta coisa. Às vezes entro em pequenas crises me perguntando o que você aprendeu comigo. Me perguntando o que eu trouxe pra sua vida... Porque, meu amor, pra minha você trouxe tanta que nem sei, rs.

Nos conhecemos e eu não estava em um dos melhores momentos da minha vida, né? Sinto como se tivesse sido com você que eu aprendi, de fato, o que é me relacionar. Não sei o quanto isso leva de peso pra você, o quanto não leva, mas é isso. Outro dia você mesma disse que sentia que "me ensinava" a me relacionar e eu não tiro muito a sua razão, apesar disso ter sido dito em um contexto não tão bom. Contigo eu aprendi (e aprendo todos os dias) que o amor, para ser bom, não precisa ser um mar de rosas o tempo todo. Contigo eu aprendi que desconfortos e momentos de discordância são bons e saudáveis e não significam necessariamente que o mundo vai acabar, que o relacionamento vai se findar ou que você gostará menos de mim porque eu estou discordando de você (isso ainda ta em processamento, mas já melhorei bastante, vai...).

Contigo eu venho aprendendo que amores podem ser tranquilos. Que amor pode ser falar amenidades ao longo do dia, pelo WhatsApp, e às vezes puxar qualquer assunto, sobre qualquer coisa, e que ta tudo bem se sentir sem assunto às vezes. Não é porque o assunto acabou que o mundo vai acabar junto (sim, eu tenho esse complexo que nunca te contei, acho. As vezes quando a gente ta meio sem se falar direito, sem muito assunto, eu fico 'meu deus, por que estamos sem assunto?' como se isso fosse um problema. Cabeça da sua namorada vai longe às vezes huahahuahuauh)

Gosto tanto de ter você pra compartilhar qualquer bobagem que vejo na internet. Pra ver qualquer tour nova e correr pra você com um: "Amor do céu, você viu a tour tal no twitter???" É gostoso ter você. Pra falar todos os dias no whatsapp, enquanto estamos longe, para dar bom dia/boa noite todos os dias, para me deixar com um friozinho na barriga sabendo que o final de semana vai chegar e a gente vai se ver pra fazer alguma coisa ou pra fazer nada. É gostoso imaginar o meu futuro com você. Me imaginar dormindo e acordando ao seu lado todos os dias na nossa casa, no nosso quarto. Nos imaginar saindo pra trabalhar/compromissos ao longo do dia, e saber que, no fim dele, teremos uma a outra ali, pessoalmente, e não mais só por WhatsApp.

Enfim, o texto já perdeu o fio da meada, já perdeu o ar "romântico clichê bonitinho" que usei pra começar, mas acho que vou usar esse espaço pra isso. Pra falar o que vem na cabeça, no coração, sem me preocupar muito se ta um texto ultra mega romântico/fofo/com palavras bonitas ou o que for. Te amo, te quero e te desejo muito. Mais do que um dia eu imaginei que fosse capaz e, certamente, mais do que um dia você imaginou que eu seria.

Eine kurze Recap meiner Auswärtsfahrt mit der Frankfurter Eintracht nach Marseille.

Nur für diejenigen, die es interessiert wie es wirklich für uns unbeteiligte Fans war und die nicht gleich sagen die Eintracht Fans sind eine Schande für die Liga.

Zu viert und recht guter Dinge sind wir von Brüssel nach Marseille geflogen und, recht blauäugig, mit ÖPNV vom Flughafen in die Innenstadt gefahren, um zu unserem Hotel zu gelangen. Wir waren uns der Gefahr noch nicht richtig bewusst, aber da wir keine auffällige Fankleidung trugen passierte glücklicherweise nichts.

Nach dem Einchecken im Hotel sind wir los um etwas zu essen und dann zum Stadion zu fahren. Unser Hotel war nur wenige hundert Meter von dem Platz entfernt, an dem die Busse zum Stadion starten sollten, dort gab es schon ein Riesen-Polizeiaufgebot, aber auch viele Eintracht Fans, sodass man sich relativ sicher fühlte. Nach den Vorfällen beim CL Finale in Paris hatte ich ein bisschen Angst wegen der Polizei und war nicht gerade glücklich, dass das einzige CL Auswärtsspiel, zu dem ich reisen konnte ausgerechnet in Frankreich und dann auch noch in Marseille sein sollte, aber wir sollten noch froh über die Polizeipräsenz in der Stadt sein.

Wir waren so gegen drei zum Essen gegangen, hatten danach noch einige Zeit auf dem Platz verbracht und uns dann in einen der ersten Busse begeben. Es dauerte eine Weile, aber so gegen fünf startete der erste 'Konvoi' von ca. zehn Bussen Richtung Stadion.

Auf der ewig langen Fahrt - wir bekamen eine kostenlose Rundfahrt durch die weniger guten Viertel (um nicht zu sagen Slums) der Stadt - mussten wir feststellen, dass uns der blanke Hass entgegen schlug. Mittelfinger-Salute von allen Seiten. Ich habe so etwas noch nie auf einer internationalen Auswärtsfahrt erlebt und ich war schon in Porto, Rom, Mailand und London.

Aber das war erst der Vorgeschmack auf das was uns noch erwartete. Unsere Busse wurden in die Tiefgarage des Stadions geleitet und dort wurden wir kontrolliert um ins Stadion zu gelangen. Das war alles nicht so schlimm, auch wenn viele die Schuhe ausziehen mussten und wir Frauen auch eine etwas unangenehme Brustuntersuchung über uns ergehen lassen mussten.

Ich denke wir waren so gegen sechs im Stadion und kurz danach ging es schon los mit den Böllern und Raketen, die zuerst noch von außerhalb des Stadions Richtung des Gästeblocks geschossen wurden. Als die zweite Busladung ankam, flogen dann auch Steine und die Polizei musste Pfefferspray einsetzen, weil Teile der Fanlager dabei aneinander gerieten, so zumindest berichtete uns eine Gruppe Frauen, die wir vorher schon getroffen hatten und die nun zu uns kamen. Die Pfefferspraywolke wallte mittlerweile sogar bis in den Block. Zu dem Zeitpunkt, an dem noch keiner von den Frankfurter Ultras da war, entstand dann diese Konversation in der WhatsApp Gruppe unseres EFC:

Ich habe keine Ahnung, was die Stadionbetreiber sich dabei denken, wenn sie einen Gästeblock direkt neben den schlimmsten Ultras ihres Vereins platzieren, natürlich eskalierte die Situation mit dem Eintreffen unserer Ultras ziemlich schnell. Waren es anfangs nur wilde Gesten (die scheinen alle nur noch Mittelfinger zu besitzen) und wüste Beschimpfungen, wurden es ganz schnell Raketen die von diesen Chaoten in unseren Block flogen. Na ja, und wer lässt sich denn sowas lange gefallen? Natürlich flog die Pyro von unseren eigenen Chaoten zurück. Erstaunlicherweise kam die Polizei im Stadion nur in unseren Block, in den Bereich der eigenen Ultras traut sie sich offensichtlich nicht. Man hat den Eindruck denen ist die Situation in ihrem Stadion schon seit langem entglitten, denn, so wie man hört, zeigen sich französische Sportreporter völlig unbeeindruckt von dieser Gewalt im Stadion, weil sie es von den französischen Ligaspielen schon gewohnt sind. Aber solche Zustände darf man doch nicht unhinterfragt hinnehmen.

Wieder zurück zu meinem kleinen Bericht: Ich war schon die ganze Zeit bei jedem Böller zusammengezuckt und hatte furchtbare Angst wenn die Raketen kamen, als ich dann sah wie in beiden Fanlagern einige jubelten wenn Pyro Menschen traf und eine der Raketen die in unseren Block kamen quasi auf meiner Augenhöhe platzte (siehe dieses Twittervideo), hatte ich genug. Nachdem mein Mann unsere Begleiter informiert hatten, begleitete er mich noch vor Spielbeginn aus dem Block, er hatte mir angesehen, dass es mir nicht gut ging. Mit Hilfe einer netten Ordnerin aus Frankfurt, die uns durch den Block in die Tiefgarage brachte, und eines sehr freundlichen, deutschsprachigen, französischen Busfahrers, der uns ein Taxi besorgte, verließen wir das Stadion mit zwei gleichgesinnten Fans. Wir waren nicht die einzigen, es waren noch etliche andere die mit Panikattacken den Block verließen.

Unsere Fahrt zum Hotel verlief glücklicherweise problemlos, aber unsere Begleiter, die im Stadion geblieben waren, erzählten von der Heimfahrt mit dem Bus. Durch die Blocksperre, die bei Auswärtsspielen häufig für die Gästefans verhängt wird, hatten die Einheimischen Zeit sich an den Straßen und in der Nähe des Platzes zu dem die Busse fuhren zu sammeln. Es flogen Steine auf die Busse, einige mit  Zwillen abgeschossen, und die Polizei brachte unsere Fans teilweise von dem Sammelplatz der Busse zu den Hotels, dabei sperrten sie Seitenstraßen in denen sich der Mob versteckte mit Schutzschilden ab.

Am nächsten Tag waren wir wesentlich vorsichtiger als wir uns in der Stadt bewegten und fuhren auch lieber mit dem Taxi zum Flughafen.

So eine Auswärtsfahrt möchte ich nie wieder erleben. Was ist daraus geworden, dass man sich mit gegnerischen Fans unterhält und sich gegenseitig freundschaftlich aufzieht? Es ging doch in Barcelona ohne Gewalt und mit den Fans der Rangers in Sevilla. Warum hört man solche Dinge immer wieder von Marseille?

Ich konnte mich zuerst gar nicht richtig über den Sieg freuen, es fühlte sich an wie nach einer Niederlage und erst heute konnte ich das Spiel ansehen (wobei ich mich über das blöde Gelache der Sportreporter bei den Böllern richtig geärgert habe, die haben keine Ahnung wie sich das anfühlt wenn einem die Raketen um die Ohren fliegen).

Mittlerweile empfinde ich auch Freude über den Sieg, aber fürchte auch die Untersuchung der UEFA.

Warum nur wollen einige wenige Fußball zum Krieg machen? Sie verderben der großen Mehrheit den Spaß an der Sache.
