Dude’s made it perfectly clear he’s loyal to Umar so the idea, he’d be wiping players off the board to give her an advantage and help New Umaria grow (with or without her knowledge) wouldn’t surprise me.

Plus, this makes it easier for him to try framing Clea. Especially since he’s been on the “I have no fucking daughter!” train since the 70s era. Her recent outbursts as Sorcerer Supreme would only make things easier to put  target on her back and keep suspicion off of him.

But that’s jus my guess.

Akram - a character creation study

Akram is such a wonderful character to me, one of my favourites I’ve ever made, mostly because a lot of his depth was an accident? He’s a testiment to how leaving lots of seeds for worldbuilding and developing it later on can weave into the world and characters in interesting ways.

He was overall supposed to be rather simple. A half dragon warlock whose patron is his overprotective dragon mama Erminoass, who is going out into the world for the first time just after hitting 100 years old. All his knowledge was theory, and thus he wanted to have his own adventure to find himself, like his ex warrior mom Umaria. He is kind and sweet and very talkative - brought up in a cave by two loving mothers who taught him compassion and curiosity. His story was going to be about figuring out who he wanted to be, his place in the world, and how he navigates his relationship with his mama/warlock patron as an adult.

And then I put them on the western border of Dimossia. A desert next to the coastline, surrounded by the mountains where their cave is. A logical choice, really - brass dragons such as Erminoass prefer hotter climates, the ideal place to hatch their young. It’s out of the way, I hadn’t developed the area much (besides knowing the coast is pretty abandoned), and there was breathing room for a dragon and a retired warrior to raise a bright little half dragon.

It was only a few days later that I remembered why the western coast was abandoned, and it had the potential to turn his character on its axis, or even scrap it all together.

 A war with the continent west of Dimossia had began there 46 years ago, and everything was wiped out.

Akram was supposed to be curious and naive! Having never experienced the outside world! If his home mountains were the roadblock that kept war from reaching the capital right away, if he was alive to see it all (being in his 50s), if he most likely witnessed attacks on his mama for her knowledge and power, then how can be be blind or unknowing to the world? How can he only know life in theory, with death on his doorstep?

I began to think about it more. Debate if I needed to redo his character to reflect someone who is very reasonably traumatised. As a young, talkative, extraverted half dragon, surely he would have visited the port towns that littered the western coast. The biggest one I named Windmar, the centre of trade with the continent to the west before the war - for someone seeking knowledge, he would have been often. Maybe even been there when the western continent made its first attack. He would have lost everyone he held dear, all the friends he made.

But instead of changing his character, I decided to look at what I already had for his personality and core values and see how these experiences could shape him into that person, or how someone already with those values would react to it (after all, he’s had 50 years of tutoring and guidance at the point of the war. By dragon standards he is still a child/young, but that’s a lot of learning time regardless).

He is compassionate, cares deeply about people, knows many languages and likes making friends. He has been taught how to discern language on a level few have time for, and knows the power of knowledge and emotions. Knows the power in the truth, and the power in a lie.

This is when I realised that it would make a lot of sense for Akram to lie about his experiences. Or at least not share them.

Hearing about war will always be upsetting. Discussing a very scary and sad part of your life is upsetting. Akram, going into the world (again, after 40 more years of seclusion after his trauma), is not going to tell anyone something that will make them sad. He would rather people believe he naive then know he is hurting.

Alot of people he would be interacting with wouldn’t even have been alive for the war! He looks and is by his cultural standards, a young adult, and nobody would look at him and assume he knows war. But he did, and it shapes his every step going forward.

What was supposed to be a simple character learning to set healthy boundaries with someone that just wanted to be sure he was safe, became a much deeper story of how you nagivate a world that has been hostile to you, and how the people that know of your trauma can help and hinder your growth. He is not just finding himself, but who he is outside of his experiences. And also someone that is going into the world intimately aware of how others may be hurting.

I think that me just forgetting the dates of my world’s history leading into such a wonderful and interesting character such as this is really neat.

Advisory Regarding Safety of your Ward

Dear Parents, 

Safety and security of the children has always been the prime concern for us and for that school management is always trying its best for the interest of your ward, but it is possible only if your entire cooperation will along with the school. In the interest of the security of your ward parents are requested to adhere to the following guidelines issued by the school –

·        Parents who come to pick their wards are advised to come 10 minutes before or end of the school to avoid any kind of inconvenience.

·        Students who come on their own should be instructed by the parents not to stop anywhere or go with any strangers on the way. They should go their home directly.  

·        Parents of the children using private vehicles should ensure that drivers must have proper police verification/police driving license etc.

·        Parents must be very particular that the private vehicle which is used must not be over crowded. It is observed that most of the vehicles are overcrowded, which is threat to the safety of the children.

·        Incase your parents designated  auto/van is not coming on a certain day and parents are coming to pick up their ward, the school must be informed by the parents in writing in advance. Parents should also direct their ward to wait at the school reception.

·        Students are not allowed to go to their home in between the school hours. In case of emergency only parents/guardian should come to pick up their ward from the school.

·        If you call your ward from the school during the school hours please inform to the concerned driver of auto/van on to avoid any inconvenience. (If your ward comes to school by auto/van)

·        In case of an emergency when parents are unavailable, an immediate family members must carry an identity and of your ward to pick up from the school. Don't send your distant relatives/servants for collecting your child.

·        If the child doesn't reach the home at the scheduled time, please call the concerned Auto/Van driver on his mobile and ensure his location.

·        Tiffin or any other material will not be delivered to the students during classes. Please don't ask at the gate for the same.
