has anyone here used neocities before and would be willijg to help me figure out a (hopefully) small issue .

for referrence i am on phone browser rn (firefox android) and cannot get on a computer for the foreseeable future.

i go on and edit the index.html file on my profile, save it (i know it's saved bc i go back out and in again and it's the same as i edited it), but the website itself doesn't change. don't know why.

its ffor sure my website; i refreshed both pages; im connected to the internet n everything; i only have the one page so im not editing a different one than the one im looking at by accident. the code is not matching up with the actual website. is there some extra step i need to do ??

🧡 - A color I can't stand

honestly I spent! An embarrassingly long amount of time on the color wheel trying to find a color I really hate (besides of course, the yellow green color but I wanted to find something besides that) ummg probably pure white? Just because I can't really look at it for too long :( I do quite like neons though! So even though I can't really look at them, white gets the crown

honestly it's a bit all over the place? Generally speaking I really like high energy things, but don't personally have enough energy to live up to it all the time hbann so! I try to land somewhere in the middle ummhm if I had to point at some? Specific things, then maybe the sex and magic trans flag and salad (pictured below :])

WHAT RHYTHM SECTIONS DO

SASHA BERLINER with Liya Grigorian and

Adi Myerson and Michael Ode, SMALL’S JAZZ CLUB, 17 MAY 2024, 9 pm set

Ben Tiberio and JK Kim, SMALL’S JAZZ CLUB, 18 MAY 2024, 7:30 pm set

I had planned to see a set in this run to get to know SASHA BERLINER better (and beyond her work on the Palladium Project honoring Wayne Shorter with other young heroes like Nicole Glover and Sean Mason) and to see the Friday night band with two other women. When I got to YouTube, I checked out Ben Tiberio from Ari Hoenig’s band and JK Kim whom I’ve appreciated instead. Tiberio got lost, save for solos, in the Small’s live mix which included Kim being rather too busy and active. There were promising elements, including brilliant tune selection including a Monk and an uptempo Upper Manhattan Medical Group (a Strayhorn tune to check off the Ellington world box). But I was underwhelmed and wanted to return to Plan A and thereby examine what a different bass/drums team could add.

Well, Adi Myerson walked vigorously when she got a chance at UMMG and was thoughtful on the reprise of an original inspired by the Norwegian film, The Worst Person in the World. But, she too was lost in the mix, even though Michael Ode was a much better listener and hence tastier drummer. Liya Grigorian had lots of good ideas but she just didn’t step up when she soloed. At first I thought it was Kim flailing away, but maybe she needs a Mezzrow’s trio gig to be heard.

Having recently explored the role of leaders by looking at what happens when bassists and drummers have that job, now I’m looking at what bassists and drummers contribute with this somewhat controlled experience. The live mix is the live mix and bassists have that challenge; Tiberio is a known quality and if he was fine in so far as I could hear him, then Myerson showed promise. Some drummers are active, some are subtle (and Ari Hoenig is both). But it matters if they listen.

Berliner was a fine leader (great tunes including on Friday night Geri Allen’s Unconditional Love) and an inventive soloist with lots more fire certainly than Grigorian but enough to stand up to Kim. I could begin to hear the vibraphone as its own kind of solo instrument, but the vibrato/reverb leads to a muddy sound. She used those well but she was not Milt Jackson (who is?). I’m glad I watched these two sets and I look forward to more in the future. But I like vibes best when they replace the piano backing horns but as the “horn” with a piano it just gets too sonically condensed.
