I Was Not Elected to Watch My People Suffer and Die...
STAR WARS EPISODE I: The Phantom Menace 01:28:43
There are a few species in this shot that are tough to figure out. In the top left corner, we've got a character in spacesuit it looks like. (I made some short video clips to help identify who/what they may be)
In the bottom left, we've got a pod of Quarren but they don't appear to be Senator Tikkes' delegation from Mon Cala. They're all wearing maroon/grey robes. Quarren Isolation League? Some other Quarren colony world?
Next to the Quarren, we've got a delegation of Aleena. I count at least 9 in the pod.
Above the Aleena, there's a delegation of Ishi Tib. Senator Gume Saam appears in Episode II so this could be him, or his predecessor, or representatives of another Ishi Tib colony.
To the upper right of the Ishi Tib, we have what appears to be Aqualish, but wearing lighter colored clothing than Po Nudo and his aides (who we see in a later scene).
Below the Aqualish, there are what appear to be Rodians. I first thought maybe these were Roonans like Edcel Bar Gane, but for a second you can see some bumps on their heads that look like antennae, so my guess is Rodians (but a separate delegation from Onaconda Farr's).
I had a lot to do today and most of it was fun, but it took longer than I expected when I planned the day. I regret nothing; Murder on the Orient Express was an excellent adaptation and it is Michelle Pfeiffer singing the song over the end credits. I stayed so you don’t have to. :D
But I didn’t get a chance to do any writing on the current scene today beyond a little editing. It’s a Vader POV for Rescue the Farmboy AU and the easiest way I found to get him out of the way is to give the suit a battery-life limitation. So basically, he’s recharging in the meditation chamber and trying to make sense of what he felt outside the Falcon.
He opened his eyes with a weary sigh. He couldn’t take a feeling to Tarkin, no matter how many times the Grand Moff had seen the Force in action. He opened the report from the Tatooine garrison. While searching for the Alderaanian senator, they investigated a report of a disturbance in a Mos Eisley cantina. An old human male with white hair and beard intervened in an altercation between two parties: the Aqualish Ponda Baba and Cornelius Evazan in the first party and the second one made up of an unidentified young human male with black hair and mustache and an unidentified human female with brown hair. When blasters emerged, the bearded human male drew a lightsaber and cut off the arm of Ponda Baba. By the time stormtroopers reached the cantina, all parties had fled the area. Ponda Baba and Cornelius Evazan were apprehended stealing medical supplies and Ponda Baba’s injuries matched dismemberment by lightsaber.
It was Obi-Wan, all right, Vader thought sourly. He never could set foot in a cantina without his lightsaber hitting someone.
There are some odd effects appearing here, seems to be instances where the background extras were superimposed over each other. The Bith's head fades into the Rodian behind, and the Ishi Tib in front of them blends into the two extras on either side. Easier to see in motion.
There are several unnamed extras who have appeared in previous shots in this scene including the man who sat with Sebulba at Akim's Munch when Anakin saved Jar Jar (bottom left next to Rum Sleg).
The woman in the yellow suit who has appeared in several different spots in crowd scenes (in the row in front of and to the left of the Veknoid).
This man with his face painted black and white (one row up and to the right of Rum Sleg) has appeared in several other scenes (center beside the Rodian at 01:02:22).
Also there are MANY "copied and pasted" extras in this scene (and all the crowd scenes). Rango Tel raising his arms up is the most noticeable.
The woman in the yellow jumpsuit to the right of the unnnamed Nikto in the middle row has appeared a few times before, with different people around her. She first appeared just before the start of the Podrace wearing a hat with side flaps (00:58:14). It also appear that she has some gold face paint (it's also possible this is just another similar looking actor in similar attire...)
She also appeared here (01:02:22), on the far left (near a Pacithhip) alongside different extras.
There’s a lot going on in this shot, with many interesting background characters. Here’s a large unlabeled view to see all of them.
The biggest takeaway is what I believe is a new alien species. They appear to have a conical head inside a spherical clear helmet.
They may be one of the unidentified spacers in this shot, behind Dud Bolt’s podracer on the right.
They’re also copy-pasted into the top right corner of this shot, with the exact same pose and animation, along with Teyora Rekab (not wearing her helmet!)
Also interesting to see spectators of the species involved in the podrace: a trio of Aleena (like Ratts Tyerell) and a pair of Veknoids (like Teemto Pagalies).
This extra sitting beside Aehrrley Rue and Rum Sleg appears to be the same one who was sitting with Sebulba at Akim’s Munch (and packing a Merr-Sonn Model 434 “Deathhammer” blaster pistol!)
This unidentified spacer appeared twice before, once walking out of an alley just before the podrace, and even earlier when the group first entered Mos Espa standing in font of a repainted Luke's landspeeder (with wheels visible!) alongside another similarly dressed spacer.
This guy on the far left appeared in an earlier shot, along with the woman in yellow beside him.
This woman in the bottom left corner looks like the one who passed in front of Anakin at Akim’s Munch, but may be a different extra in similar costume.
These two appeared in the previous shot, but appear to have switch sides (or just flopped, but definitely in a whole different location in the stands!)
I'm not 100% sure on this, maybe 90%, but the character walking between Qui-Gon and Padmé appears to be an Aqualish. Only other species I could think was possible Nimbanel, but I don't think there were any Nimbanels in Episode I. We know there were Aqualish, though.
