CUT - Toumyu Cast questionnaire translation

AKA CUT magazine, december 2019 edition, Musical Touken Ranbu Uta Awase Ranbu Kyouran 2019 Touken Danshi 18 member-cast Questionnaire. That’s it that’s the title. For now, my bias-maru’s (Ishikirimaru, Tsurumaru) and the first one in the list, Kogi. Q1: What would you like to do if you could meet [your character]? Q2: What do you like about your character's outfit and/or hairstyle? Q3: What's your policy upon being cast in Musical Touken Ranbu? Q4: What's your key to overcome practice and performances? Q5: What does Musical Touken Ranbu mean to you?

1- Ishikirimaru

Q1: Maybe consult him with my troubles. Things about work or my private life. More than wanting an answer, I'd like to see what kind of reaction he has. Q2: The long part of his fringe and straight cut near his face line. Q3: It's no understatement to say that this production changed my life, so I never want to forget my feelings of gratitude. That's why I'll continue to value this gratitude. Q4: Sleep. I think rest is the most important thing. In winter I take special care not to dry out. I use tape to keep my mouth shut, put a mask on, and use an air humidifier. (TN: Tsubasa what xD But yeah, as humid as Japan, is in summer, as much air humidifying do they do in winter. I think Tsubasa even said two air humidifiers is better than one, and I'm sure he's talking about the big ones xD) Q5: I believe it's something that has changed me and will continue to change me. Every time I feel there's still things I can learn, and I can use what I've learned in other productions here as well, so after about 4 years of being a part (of toumyu), that's really the kind of production it is to me.

2- Tsurumaru Q1: Wear matching outfits and go to a theme park! After that, a hot pot party! Q2: I love the way his sleeves flow when spinning around! Also, not many people can pull off that mullet hairstyle so I think Tsuru-san is amazing!

Q3: Mainly doing all you can. I'm clumsy, so I have to work all the more to keep up.... (lol) Q4: Before, Ota Motohiro-san who plays Sengo Muramasa told me during practice that “it's all about having a strong heart”, and I now see that he's absolutely right. Whatever happens, you have to believe in yourself and keep facing forward. If you do, the results will definitely show. During performances I do what's good for my throat and for my body. (lol) Q5: It's a production full of challenges, for walls to overcome. I am glad to be part of a welcoming environment where I was able to grow. 3- Kogitsunemaru

Q1: I would like him to carry me princess style (ohimesama-dakko, you know. I can't English). Can he do that... I'm sure  he can. (lol)

Q2: His one sleeveless arm. Since it's also his sword hand that's free, it made it easier to move around for stage battles. And it's breezy.

Q3: It goes for every production, but to improve every time. I try to be conscious of constantly surpassing (myself as) Kogitsunemaru. Just now I surpassed (him)... is what I want to think. Q4: Attitude is everything. Not losing from yourself, not wanting to lose from someone else, that type of ambition is how I got through. With that kind of mindset, you can overcome things. Q5: It's a production that allows me to test myself. When I work with actors I know, whenever I meet them, it gives me strength and makesk me realize how much I/we've grown. With the new cast members, I also understand what I can do now as an actor. Especially because it's a long-running production, I feel like I get how I improved and where I stand now.

only 2 days are left in 2019... so I thought it’s time for this year’s watched list

GUYS I watched Uta Awase live and then yesterday the live viewing!! It was really awesome. I didn’t know what to expect because Toumyu asked for a a no-spoiler policy and in Japan, such things actually WORK. now that spoilers are allowed; here are some of my impressions: Let me just say that every single actor just keeps improving every year, all live singing was amazing, Kurumaru will blow anyone away, we got to see Shogohori play guitar, and differently from former SRS, ranbu kyouran had more storytelling and character quirks in it! It’s a bit like, Toumyu hanamaru with original new songs, combined with some live singing intermissions of existing songs. I really enjoyed it, especially when I could also see the live viewing and focus more on what was said in some of the stories.  The big mystery though is that they revealed two new touken danshi, Matsuigou, who will be in the new myu from March, and Kuwanagou... but Kuwana isn’t scheduled to be in something? So maybe?? they’re planning some special appearance for the 4 gous? Who knows~

Toumyu Shinken Ranbu Sai Uta Awase Ranbu Kyouran 2019 cast announcement

At last, with so much trepidation and fanfare disguised as an “emergency announcement,” (and sending fans into a tizzy for a few days in speculation), we got our not-quite-Ranbusai show announcement.

The show will be touring 9 cities across Japan this time, but my, are there some gaping holes this time. While gathering 17 out of 24 Toumyu swords isn’t an easy feat, considering that these actors are among the top in the 2.5D genre, this cast is decidedly more significant in who’s NOT there.

-The poster boy of the entire TKRB franchise, Mikazuki Munechika, Tenka Goken, will be MIA. Kuroba Mario has been such a fixture in nearly all of Toumyu’s major events, even throwing a ceremonial pitch in full regalia while donning baseball cleats. Come to think of it, with the absence of Mikazuki in Tousute as well, will we even see Jiji at all on stage in 2019?

-Toumyu’s all-around golden boy, Kashuu Kiyomitsu, will be MIA... Again. This wasn’t so surprising since Sato Ryuji’s schedule has been packed with non stop stage commitments on top of touring with his band. Still, to be missing the big party for 2 straight years is unfortunate.

-No Gengi bros. Wow, to be missing the dynamic duo and acrobatic highlights of Higekiri and Hizamaru just smarts. We still have their Tanki in the coming days to look forward to though.

-Looks like half of Sanjou will be MIA with Iwatooshi gone as well. Who will lift Imanotsuguri?

-Countining in the trend of missing other half of a ship aibous, Izuminokami will be without his partner and assistant, Horikawa... again. Toumyu’s been blessed with 2 very different and talented Horikawas, but both Ogoe Yuki and Sakamoto Shogo have been guilty of skipping out on their one and only Kane-san.

-Lastly, this one hurts me the most personally as he is my favorite, but confirming that Sengo Muramasa won’t be present for this Uta-Awase is definitely a disappointment. When Mokkun announced he would be headlining a musical in December a week ago, I knew he’d be missing Toumyu’s big party. We still have him in Myu6 in the coming months to look forward to, so I take solace in that for the time being.

There’s still so much to look forward to in this repackaged quasi-Ranbusai, this Uta Awase, or whatever they’re calling it. The 4 newbies from Myu6, a partial Dategumi reunion with Ookurikara and Tsurumaru. Tomoegata returning means more Haruki Kiyama backstage shenanigans (and his skateboard)! Not to mention the fact that the organizers have to get creative with new vocal assignments, meaning new duets!

Then there’s the possibility of the year-end Kouhaku again. Wouldn’t it be something if we get a few swords back for one night into the lineup like when Sato Ryuji did if they are invited again to NHK Kouhaku 2019/2020?
