#Doodles #Parapluesch #Mama Oz #So I mentioned that Mama Oz's grief doesn't come from Literally losing a child in how we understand the phrase #However - the dream sequences usually conflate Feeling and Experience #Thus - this #The fact that her actual function is as a magazine rack is so - well it's a lot haha it's a real statement piece #A stuffed animal made with the hide of a different animal made specifically to hold magazines in her belly pouch rather than a Joey #That's........a concept lol #I just can't see her as a piece of furniture! I know that's her function but no! She's a stuffed animal!#It's so easy to imagine her backstory - a child growing up in that home and having her be mama to all the other plushies #Not used as a magazine rack at all - constantly pulled out of her Utility to a more emotional and playful side #Until the child grows up and she's forced back into what she was made for - her ''purpose'' yes but to have to give up what she became #It's like this piece of furniture was doomed to sadness from conception! Personifying an object to that degree - I mean you gave it a face!!#Hard to believe I'm so emotionally invested in this item I'd never seen before and now #I guess that's good memorable design for you haha #She's also still quite fun to draw :D She's very cute!#I wasn't sure about giving her a mouth since I'm pretty sure the actual version doesn't have one - and some of the plushies don't #But I like the idea of her having a little Moomin-like mouth up under her snoot hehe #She kinda reminds me of Sniff even huh #She was fun to draw lying down haha I can very easily see her in my mind's eye standing herself back up in the Parapluesch animation style #I'm still thinking over how her story would conclude - I want her to be able to stand on her own as an individual #But I want her to retain her desire to nurture! She's still a plush even if she started a bit unconventional #Healthy balance to be found somewhere hmm

So I know this isn't anything that like actually needs an apology but it'll make me feel a bit better to say it. Oof whoops this ABoT chapter is super late. Timing kinda sucks since I wanted to have some updates out while s3 was airing but

Been kinda mega busy and stressed since October with the whole condo buying thing which rolled right into immediate day 0 plumbing and boiler issues I had to get fixed and general moving hassle and financial commitment stress and I kinda just fried myself hard. Plus then acclimating to a new place without my familiar street or familiar grocery store or familiar room or any of that. Like there's no "just go home and take your mind off it" to this cuz home is the "it". So I'm just kinda enduring until I can calm the hell down.

And anyway I definitely have progress on ch47, like 7000-ish words of it, but it's the kind of like "there is writing there" and hasn't exactly hit the "there is substance there" that I want ABoT chapters to be. Like this in particular is a chapter I want to be good, not just be done. So it's taking time to get my brain somewhere that can do that.

#anyway #i mean just in case anyone was like wondering if its discontinued to anything #its still going i just can't make it Good quite yet #(plus i need to get furniture cuz as it stands the place is really quite empty and bare except for like my room and the kitchen)#(also the bank had my address wrong so they havent been able to send me any of the mortgage information which was technically due already)#(ive been in contact with them but it's a whole thing)#(plus im still not quite finished with all the utility switching. i still need to get water in my name)#(and the boiler issue fucked up my gas bill so now ive got a crazy high gas bill i just need to... pay)#(i have actually started seeing a therapist but thats a whole other Thing now figuring out insurance and deductables and using my HSA #account and just... it's a lot)#(oh also my homeowner's insurance policy number doesn't actually work for getting me into the online portal. and the geico guy said he was #looking into it but I havent heard anything in a while)#(its a lot im just gonna melt for a while i guess)#(plus all the upfront stress has made it really hard to associate the new place as 'home' instead of 'place of great many plumbing evils')#(i sat on like 4 million couches this week and the only one i really really like probably doesn't quite fit in my living room)#(the downstairs neighbors tv is too loud and i need to talk to her about it in a way which isn't 'hey im holding on by a thread and this #one small inconvenience is the thing which is making me turn into ash')#(oh thats right i have to go pay my january HOA dues...)#(oh also I need to file for the owner-occupied tax exemption thing now that its 2023)#anyway......... ill be normal eventually. im just not normal right now.#chrissy speaks

okay im actually a little emotionally attached to mochis shop being a little cat bookstore now

#so warm......#it invokes the feeling that its been there for 20 years #also seems like the kind of place a witch would run #theres a bunch of plants and cats and warm lighting #im trying to think if the cat witch was a cool side character how would i design her #since a lot of my side characters are cool as hell like murda and lady magg-lynn #it gives off the cozy vibes of broosters cafe #one(1) seating/reading area that consists of a little table and some chairs around it #that usually is taken up by coco/lime/oscar/taffy playing board games or something #some random girl with a crush on lime: heyy is it okay if i sit here and read for a bit?#lime: actually we dont allow reading the books in the store until after youve purchased them. im sure you understand #hes so indifferent and it works against him cuz a lot of girls are like (wow so cool....i want him more now...)#a tiny bookstore on the outter reaches of the downtown area. like before there is a house essentially attatched to the back where they live #oscar somehow affording a house with a storefront in the downtown area #( how did you afford this...)#(i work.)#mochi compensates him appropriately for letting her hijack his store #he doesnt mind though. he wasnt sure what kind of shop to run anyway #plus with magic mochi around he doesnt need to worry about utility bills or furniture or anything ever again so its a fair trade off #(rumor has it that shop has books on anything you could imagine)#someone walks in asking about 8th century pottery techniques from the eastern regions of the kingdom #(let me check the back!) she says and is back with the exact book 5 minutes later

The thing about making generalizations about the aesthetic and cultural sensibilities of people who lived 100-150 years ago is that people of the post-Industrial Revolution, pre-digital age left behind a crapton of written ephemera, so it's not hard to find primary sources even if you don't have the full resources of an academic historian.

If I want to know what kinds of housewares middle-class Edwardian Americans were buying and how fancy they got, I can consult my reprinted 1906 Sears catalog, and armed with the magic of primary sources I can safely say that minimalism was not the dominant American middle-class aesthetic in the early 1900s.

#how the heck did that person come to this conclusion anyway?#did they assume the model T looked like that for aesthetic reasons #and not to facilitate mass production?#did they see one excerpt of an edwardian decorator talking about the virtues of simplicity and not realize #that they meant “simple compared to the late Victorians?”#was their only exposure to pre-boomer material culture #wwii utility furniture?

trying to blitz thru the paradise planning dlc to unlock the kiosk where you can order stuff is like.

on one hand i feel guilty that i’m super half assing almost every house, like i end up putting more effort into them than i really should just because it feels like it shouldn’t count if i barely do anything.

but on the other hand, i don’t want to put a bunch of effort into stuff i design on here because i think of the vacation homes on my regular island as the ones i actually care about. also some of these things i don’t WANT to do twice. made toilet house man the laziest toilet house ever this time because he kept showing up like Hello i’m here for my Toilet House????
