(chaotic one bc I only have to share my new discovery)

Today years old when I found out about the existence of 'Link Click Musical highlights' vlog series. And I'm going insane over it (esp the first gif). I haven't watched them all, bc I'm too excided to share it asap.

So I was looking through Wu Hanglu's weibo and saw she shared the vlog she did for the musical...

You can find it all on Encore Musicals weibo. It has around 6 parts, each is hosted by different Qiao Ling's actress. They have chinese subs, but even if you don't know the language there are still very fun ^^ Firstly, bc we can see all the actors rehearsing together!

Idk why I really wanted to see them all in the same room, so I'm having a field day seeing all Xiaoshis learning choreo, all Qiao Lings chatting at once or like Zhu Hanbin (LG) doing the floss dance with Teng Chunpeng and Ding Xingchen (CXS) in the background.

Other fun thing I've noticed is that the cast was using Link Click artbook as a reference (for eg. there's a clip where QL actress is doing all Qiao Ling's expressions from her reference sheet in a book). They have the book and other official stuff available on set. Imo it's v neat 🌟

OH! And how could I forget! You can sometimes hear instrumental versions of the songs in the background. The non-encore songs we don't get to hear. Crumbs Ik, but heyy it's better than nothing ✨

I wanted to recap all the times Hong Lu talks about his family or a particular member of his family while at the same time comparing them to their version of the original novel by giving some info on the latter (assuming that Hong Lu = Jia Baoyu ). I excluded from this list the uncles and aunts by marriage as well as Baoyu's cousins ​​ for various reasons (too long otherwise, not mentioned...) but I will perhaps do a part 2 to talk about them.

Was also excluded, the entire branch which stems from Jia Yan (the brother of Jia Yuan (the father of Jia Daishan, the husband of Grandmother Jia)), a branch which remains important since it is this one who leads to the actual Head of the Ningguo Mansion (Jia Zhen) when the story takes place. But since, they are distant relatives/cousins ​​of Jia Baoyu, that was taking me too far and so I had to remove them from this list. But I still wanted to mention it since it is an important branch of the family

The Jia family is mainly composed of 4 great families: the Jia Family, the Xue Family, the Wang Family and the Shi family in other words those who were born with the name Jia and those who joined the family by marriage / alliance / by being the brother / sister of one of the grooms… (born Xue or Wang or Shi).

There are also other families like the Xing or Lin family joining the Jia family but whose name appears (very) less often and which are also not considered as one of the great families of the novel.

To tell the truth, I don't really know what the term "elders" is supposed to encompass in this context in the sense that, I don't know whether or not parents and/or uncles/aunts should be included in addition to the grandparents.

In my opinion the term "elders" refers to all the generations who are above the one who uses this term (in this case Hong Lu / Jia Baoyu) so I would tend to want to count the parents and uncles / aunts but I cannot say this with certainty.

I will therefore base myself on my interpretation so that it will allow me to talk about more characters of the novel but do not hesitate to let me know what this term encompasses!

So we don’t really know which of his two grandfathers Hong Lu is referring to but knowing that in the novel only his paternal grandfather is mentioned and died before the novel begins, I think the "grandfather" Hong is talking about is Jia Daishan (and that he probably died in the world of Limbus Company too)

A: How did you come up with the title to [insert fic]?

Aww, thank you so much for this question!! I have really strange titles for a lot of my fics. One I really like is Scienter, which is a piece of legal jargon. It is used to describe the actions of someone who commits a crime willingly. The word comes from the same Latin root as science, which is for knowledge. So, it refers to the mental state of someone who commits a crime knowing what they’re doing is wrong, but specifically chooses to go through with it anyway. 

F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

This is a dialogue scene from Scienter that I worked pretty hard on. I’m writing this entire fic from Chi Zhen’s perspective which isn’t something I usually do. I like to switch between both of their perspectives, but this one is all from Chi Zhen because there’s something in the plot that I’m hiding. :) Anyway, I set it up in the beginning with Chi Zhen becoming attracted to Lu Li because he’s good-looking and he saved Chi Zhen once. But, I wanted their first actual conversation to be a bit unconventional, so this is a short cut of what I came up with:

“What does this have to do with her?” Chi Zhen demands.

“That’s none of your concern.” Lu Li replies, dismissively. “Thank you very much for your cooperation today, Mr. Chi.” He doesn’t take his eyes of the clipboard even once and–

Chi Zhen latches a hand onto his shoulder, stopping him from leaving. “Wait, what’s going on? You have to explain this case to me. You’ve brought up two of my past clients today, but neither of them had anything to do with why I was attacked. That guy just attacked me on accident; he was going for someone else! Why did you ask about Zhu Tian? Don’t tell me, that photo– she’s dead, isn’t she?”

Lu Li turns around slowly, keeping the contents of his clipboard hidden from Chi Zhen as he meets his eyes. His gaze is weary and there’s an unmistakable regret skirting the corners of his expression. “That’s none of your concern,” he repeats, “I will advise you to refrain from prying about things you are clearly not equipped to handle. Garner their attention, and you’ll regret ever having been alive,” he says, voice taunt like the E string on a violin tuned too high, tense and drawn nearly to its limits.

“When I say this is none of your concern, I mean it.” He shifts his shoulder and lets Chi Zhen’s hand slip off as he steps away. “Do not let yourself become the next photograph I need to ask around about."

K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?

I don’t know... I’m writing a Guardian fic right now with a really sad premise. I’m not done with it yet, and I haven’t decided if I want to make it sad or have a happy ending, so I guess I’m not sure right now. 

V: If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

Hmm, one of my favorite fics is Portrait of You by izanyas. It’s a short crossover where Chuuya from BSD finds Ochako from BNHA. They both have gravity manipulation abilities and it’s set when Ochako is younger. I just loved the idea so much and would have loved to read more. :)

Session 6 Internet Intermediaries Law

PART 1 - INTERNET INTERMEDIARY SAFE HARBOUR

Internet Intermediary Liability: Safe harbour laws provides a measure of protection for Internet intermediaries from liability. The general rationale is that these intermediaries provides a socio-economic benefit and they need these protections in order to function effectively. However, because the definition and coverage of “Internet Intermediary” is potentially very wide, the categorisation of different types of intermediaries will provide greater certainty and clarity as to what types of intermediary gets what form and measure of protection. They are normally determined by their profile (objectives/control based on role/function) with pre-requisites and extent of protection (civil/criminal) set into the relevant legislation. There are different models of general safe harbour protection for intermediaries in different countries/regions. What are the justifications and policy reasons for such protections? What improvements can and should be made to the current regime?

Singapore Law on Internet Intermediaries: What is the scope/breadth of coverage of “network service providers” under section 26 of the Singapore ETA? Does it only cover access service providers or does it’s protection extend to content hosts/providers? How does it relate to the rights and liability of the Internet intermediary under the Copyright regime and the Internet Content Regulation regime? What is the relationship between the Data Intermediary under the Data Protection regime on the one hand and type of intermediary covered by section 26 of the ETA on the other? Other notable exceptions in other statutes and in common law (e.g. defences to an action on defamation) will also be considered.

Internet Intermediaries and Criminal/Civil Liability: What is the level/depth of protection offered by section 26 of the ETA? In this context, consider the rationale and extent of the statutory exceptions under subsection (2). What are the conditions for such protection and what are the factors that our courts are likely to consider when determining whether an intermediary is liable (under criminal or civil law) for “third party material”? What is the meaning of “merely provides access” and the lack of “effective control” over the said “third party”.

Comparison of the EU-Wide Approach and the US Approach: A general comparison will be made on the approaches in the EU and the US in relation to intermediaries in the context of trademark infringement through keyword advertising. The focus will be on the scope and application of the safe harbour protection and not on trademark law. This example is used because of the line of ECJ trademark infringement cases on the legality of keyword advertising and the allocation of responsibility between the intermediary (search engines or online auction/retail operator) and the advertiser/business.

PART 2 - LIABILITY FOR ‘PUBLICATION’ IN DEFAMATION LAW

Defamation Laws: The law on defamation pre-dates the age of new media and the objectives were set in defined limits, both jurisdictional and societal. The tort of defamation is less consistently applied across jurisdictions, given the potential conflict with the freedom of speech and expression as well as journalistic interests. The extra-territorial reach and ease of dissemination through the electronic medium, and the rise of blogs, social media, citizen journalism and other platforms which allow individual and groups of people to share their views and opinions that can relate to the character and reputation of another gives rise to new issues that the old rules on defamation do not easily address. Courts, and the legislature in certain jurisdictions, have had to provide some guidance and answers, taking into consideration the original purpose of the law and the new context and age in which it now operates.

New Media, New Context: Publications now can take the form of websites such as blogs, electronic mail and other forms of communication, social media such as twitter and Facebook and so on. From these, new practices and forms of sharing have emerged. These can also take the form of text and pictures, and video and audio messages. We are now familiar with terms and phrases like “Internet trolling”, the “viral” process of Internet sharing, “cyber-vigilantism”, and the use of “hyperlinking”; all of which bring forth new problems and issues for the application of the law on defamation. Consider the new media and new context, where relevant, when answering the below questions.

What is “publication” in the context of social media platforms?

What is “publication” in relation to a conduit or intermediary such as a search engine?

Do/Should defamation law allow non-legal entities to be both the defamer and the defamed, in relation to private and public entities?

Should a distinction be made for some intermediaries such as by way of specific exceptions or defences?
