What if uno reverse happens?

so i've rewatched volume nine's intro recently and like. with the events of the recent episode i can't help but look at this image

and think

"what if the curious cat uses neo's powers to create illusions of ruby to torment wby and jaune?"

And pulls a uno reverse on what neo did to ruby and torments them as a side plot to cut to while ruby is dealing with the blacksmith and summer and all that sweet jazz in the tree, perhaps while Ruby negotiates Thier escape or the cats death, the cat is grinding down WBY+Jaune

Or ruby stabs the illusion of the cat as a symbol of getting rid of those thoughts?

Honestly my expectations for episode one of v9 were below sea level and I was pleasantly surprised. Was it good? Not sure I’d say that. But it wasn’t worst case scenario bad. The mice are lame and dumb imo I honestly hate Little and all the comedic moments involving them fall flat for me. But Blake and Weiss get to talk about not Yang. Weiss is emotionally scarred from what happened and Ruby has a dramatic emotional response to learning about Penny. I wish it was more serious and less comedic as a whole and I’m really sick of these outfits. I hope Neo dies and I hope Jaune dies I’m so tired of them and I don’t know how I feel about this mystery girl we see in the intro. But by and large it wasn’t worst case scenario

Yeah you've basically listed all the moments I enjoyed. For me personally, the problem lies in Volume 9's messy tone being the worst case scenario. In a vacuum, absolutely, I love Weiss grappling with this trauma, Ruby fainting, Yang thinking she might have died... but these moments don't exist on their own and what surrounds them actively undermines the impact of each emotional beat.

Yang: "Yup I thought I was dead. No, you don't get to see me coming to that realization, or grappling with it, or trying to recover from learning differently. Why would any of that be important?"

Ruby: "I've fainted at the horror of my friend dying again. And now we're pretending I'm fine. No one has offered me any physical comfort, or pressed the 'Are you okay?' question, or waited until I'm conscious to have a key conversation about our survival here. The writing did the work of having me faint. Why would the details surrounding that matter?"

Weiss: "I'm traumatized by our fight and cannot discuss it. Wooooo go, Blake! Yeah! Awesome! You get your weapon! 👏🏻📣🎉🤸🏼‍♀️🎊Yup. Still traumatized. Why? Can't you tell? Omg lol an army of mice has captured us. How wacky IS this place??🤪 I am crying. So traumatized. This is an incredibly difficult time for me. [Next episode] Wait, Yang, you got your arm stolen by a purple racoon? Hilarious!"

I've got an example I want to give in my recap of how to do humor in an otherwise dark story, but tl;dr this is not it. The absurdity of so much of the episode -- the mice, the dodo bird, vine traps, Weiss acting as cheerleader, etc.--messes with the work the rest of the episode is trying accomplish. None of which even considers larger, series long questions like, "Why should I buy into Ruby's devastation at Penny's second death when she never reacted to her resurrection?" What surrounds these moments is just as, if not more important than the moments themselves and RWBY failed tonally in its premiere. Pretty spectacularly imo, which is precisely what I was afraid would happen.

To continue with the ever present baking comparisons: we're all eating a cake that, yeah, has some really nice pockets here and there. It's a good cake! ... provided you ignore the cloying, gummy, overly sweet icing that's covering the entire thing and slathered between every layer. Some fans are going to carefully dissect their slice, peeling off the inedible parts, nibbling the remains and praising the bake. Me? I'm looking at the slice as a whole and going, "I can't eat that."

That one phrase from weiss still allowed him to give the group a monkey's paw in the end. Also I got major Christmas vibes from watts and cinder early on. And it's very interesting seeing penny use magic to make her swords. Also here's a question for you, who do you think we'll see first in vacuo, like who will assist or save the group first

If you mean it in the sense that the villains got exactly what they wanted from showing up to ruin our heroes’ efforts to help Atlas and Mantle like a child on Christmas Day getting exactly what they wished for from good ole St. Nick then…sure XD

Yeah, Penny manifesting swords of magic to mimic her previous weapons surprised me a bit since I was certain she would be vulnerable. But I guess it fits. However this still doesn’t change my hunch about Penny being more susceptible to Cinder now that she’s human. I doubt she’ll be able to survive any burns from her this time since she’s more guts than bolts.

Still waiting for that confirmation of Penny surviving till Vacuo. If Cinder was able to one up the heroes so far, I’m waiting to see what she does for Penny. When Penny accused her of not learning her lesson from the last time they fought, Cinder said she did.

So to me, Cinder truly learning her lesson would be for her to finally abandon her pursuit of relinquishing the Maiden powers from Penny and instead aim higher.

Why bother trying to acquire more of the same magic she already possessed when Cinder could simply acquire the power to create WHATEVER she desired? 

To me, it would be more fitting if Cinder simply challenged Penny to actually acquire the Relic of Creation and then succeeds; no longer interested in the glorified walking toaster turned flesh bag.

Imagine…Cinder acquiring the Relic of Creation but ultimately she chooses to keep the power for herself, instead of handing it over to Salem? 

During her backstory in the Midnight episode, Cinder last told her former “wicked stepmother” and slave driver that “without her, she is nothing but because of her, she is everything.” She says this right before she chokes the life out of her, killing her.

Imagine if…this is something that Cinder ultimately does even to Salem. Imagine if…Salem returns from her reincarnation to see that, in her absence, Cinder has acquired more than she ever did and could through her own cunning and the Relic of Creation whose power she abuses for own selfish needs.

Imagine if…once Salem is back, Cinder turns on her former master and rather than handing the staff over to Salem, Cinder instead uses its power to create something of magic that imprisons Salem for the second time in her life; forcing the immortal witch to watch the fruits of the monster she helped to create as Cinder assumes her place as the Red Queen; dethroning her Black Queen.

Who knows? Perhaps Cinder might even chose to shed whatever bit of humanity she had left, baptizing herself in the Grimm Pools of Darkness and becoming exactly like Salem---a being of magic with a hunger for destruction who can now control the Grimm too. A stretch yes but…I dunno. My feelings about Cinder are still mixed. On one end, I love my Red Queen theories for her but on the other hand, I still want her to be killed by Emerald. But that’s just me. This response isn’t even supposed to be about Cinder so let me actually answer your question Key m’boi XD

As to whom the group will see first in Vacuo---well in RWBY V8CH5, we saw that SSSN are in the desert since we got that shot of Neptune and Sun watching Ruby’s broadcast from their scrolls. I haven’t read any of the RWBY After the Fall books so forgive me if I’m not familiar with where those stories left SSSN or CVFY leading into the events of V8-V9.

But if I had to make a prediction---I think it will be SSSN to show up first to assist followed by another grand entrance by CVFY showing up with airships or what other means of safe transport they have in Vacuo, organized by Headmaster Theodore to take the refugees and our heroes safely to Vacuo kingdom. 

And this will all probably be done as a result of Oscar shooting another magic nuke into the sky to alert their allies in Vacuo.

As much as I love SSSN, we gotta get that V2 parallel, right? In the V2 finale, we had that epic CVFY intro fight where they showed up to wreck all those Grimm that attacked the capital city, right?

So I’m expecting nothing different. They just gotta do it. They gotta give us that V2 callback with CFVY with “Caffeine” or a new CVFY theme blaring in the background, They HAVE to do it. So that’s what I think will happen.

SSSN will be the opening act to the calvary arriving while CVFY will show up and steal the show. That’s my hunch.

I’m not going to post things like this regularly (especially not Jpop music), but I’m analysing chords from songs to see what the composers do to make their songs more interesting. I thought I’d share my (attempt at) explaining the chords from Rebecca Sugar’s ‘Love Like You’. Fellow music nerds out there, please help me in explaining why some chords are the way they are!

Chord Explanations:   Abm7 (iv7) & Abm6 (iv6) [Verse & Intro] The minor fourth chord in a major scale adds a melancholic feeling, unlike its diatonic counterpart.   C7 (VI7) – F7 (II7) – Ab7/Bb (iv9) [Verse] The C7 is the dominant of F, the latter being the dominant of Bb7. As the 7th, 9th, and 11th of Bb7 is AbM7, it has been notated this way with the Bb in the bass (an indication of the true chord). This creates a perfect cadence, but is somewhat reminiscent of a plagal cadence due to the AbM7 chord within it. Another explanation is that it is a plagal cadence as an AbM7, but with the 9th in the bass (to add colour).   Gaug7 (IIIaug7) [Break & Bridge] Augmented chords are used to modulate key signatures. Perhaps the bridge is actually in the relative minor of Eb major, C minor.   D7/F# (VII7) [Bridge] The dominant to Gm9, creating a chromatic bass line from F (in Fm7) to F# (in D7/F#) to G (in Gm9). It’s the dominant in the harmonic G minor scale as there is sharpened seventh degree (F#).*   Eb7 (I7) [Bridge] Although the piece is in Eb major, the bridge section begins on a major fourth AbM7 chord – supposedly the root major seventh of a piece in Ab major. The beginning of the bridge is clearly in Eb major, however the chord dominant to AbM7, Eb7 (which diatonically would be a EbM7 in Eb major), is aimed at creating tension before resolving to the AbM7 chord for the second half of the section.   F9 (II9) [Bridge] Apparently, the key transitions slightly more to Ab major in this second section of the bridge, as there is now a dominant F9 chord instead of the diatonic Fm9. The notes are the same as the destination AbM7 chord apart from the F on the bass. Not quite sure what this does…   F#M13 [Ab/F#] (#II) – B9 (#V9) [Outro] The piece has suddenly modulated to B major for the ending. Somehow.   * If the bridge has modulated to C minor (the relative minor) through the use of the Gaug7, this chord makes sense as D7 is the secondary dominant of C minor (as G minor is dominant of C minor).

PMC U32 Solo(s) Diary

This blog diary describes the researching and developing of two pieces from different genres which I will attempt to learn to play over a period of several weeks.

In piece one I will focus on the guitar Solo more so than the lyrics or harmony.

In Piece two I will use guitar and also focus on lyrics and the inter verse guitar instrumental.

Initially I listened to original track and tried to ascertain notes and moves and also looked at various Youtube videos.

Guitar tab :

The tutor then greatly assisted me by giving me a midi backing track and a copy of the guitar tabs, sample page above. But actually I did not use the tab as for some reason I have a mental block with it, (and writing Blogs!!).

I copied the backing track into Reaper as I am used to using this DAW.

I then started to try and record using Quicktime on my Imac and playing my Fender into an amp whilst playing the backing track on the Imac. This did not work out as Quicktime did not upload to Drive properly so I ended up using my HTC Smart phone. This became a more tedious process as the files take a significant amount of time to upload but did work. Also I do not have a tripod so the Smart phone videos have a much lower production value.

Really this video just outlines and shows my work area and rehearsal space and the bits of equipment I am using.

I parsed the printed guitar tabs into 29 parts but ended up mainly focusing on the Intro in the song which I had broken down into 7 parts. The song is 8 bar blues at 12/8 so each section lasts 16 bars. Once having attained some level of confidence with the intro I then moved on to try and conquer some of the other licks or solo parts from the parts 8 to 29 i had identified. Unfortunately due to time pressures and other demands I try not succeed in resolving to any great level the other areas for soloing.

I sorted out the problem with Quicktime which made recording and saving practise videos a lot easier.

The second video contains my first recorded attempt after some off camera practising. It is nowhere near the quality and skill of Peter Green but it is passable for an early first attempt.

As time available to practise became shorter I started to improvise more around the chord sequences of the varying sections, i.e. Verse, Chorus, Bridge trying to incorporate some of Peter Green’s more recognisable soloing techniques.

Over time I got better at the opening 7 licks or soloing sequence as can be seen by watching the video In between all these videos was a lot of time of varyingly successful and unsuccessful attempts at soloing to Need Your Love So Bad.

You can notice that the sound varies a lot depending on my fingering and that also my timing is not consistent across all versions. At times I apply the correct string pressure but other notes are not firm enough to resound strongly.

So I am slowly getting all the individual sections right but not putting them all together at the one time. 

Also the final section requires holding down the E and B strings together and running up the neck which I seem to change every time.

So in Video 5 it is obvious I fall behind in time and come in late with the full note bends. However video 6 is definitely getting towards a result.

Then for the remainder of the practises I decided to use my loop pedal as the backing track. In retrospect this was a bad idea as it created a real timing challenge in terms of the start of the piece and this in turn led me to struggling with timing on the day of the Mermaid gig.

The sound on number 11 is very scratchy but the playing is probably the most accurate to date. At this point I discontinue adding more practise videos.

Overall it was a very rewarding and enjoyable exercise and will encourage me to work on developing and introducing more solos into my playing and performances.

Having selected this traditional tune I realised the solo is played on both a fiddle and a mandolin. I do own a mandolin but not a fiddle so I decided to do it on guitar.

Also I could not find a backing track so initially I tried to make my own in Reaper and export as an MP3. I found the timing a challenge as the pauses between verses varies throughout the recording. After a significant amount of time and effort I gave up.

So I cut out a piece of the Waterboys version in Audacity, copied into Reaper and then spent ages getting it lined up properly. There still is slight timing issues but it works as an aid.

Then I searched the web and found various offerings of melody lines and lots of different versions and I eventually decided on the version as linked below.

Then, as with Solo1 but with a bit more experience behind me I maintained the video diary as I slowly progressed in my ability to play the melody line of the tune.

As can be seen in the video above there are lots of mistakes, missed notes, timing errors between harmony and melody and generally a poor performance.

In Video 3 I slow down the harmony and introduce some of the lyrics. Again it is peppered with mistakes of missed notes, mis timing, and the vocals are not sung well. But it is all progressing in the right direction.

Video 4 is similar to Video 3 in terms of me trying to mix the harmony, melody and vocals but it is quite apparent I am not a good vocalist or else I am not getting the right vocal key for me on this song.

So I now change from Em to Bm and start using my steel string acoustic guitar.

As before I am attempting to blend Harmony, Lyrics and Melody but with only limited success. Timing is again a major issue between verses and I am starting to consider adding in a bar at the end of each verse to facilitate the transition.

Also I miss out on hitting the correct notes in the melody line.

In video 6 I re record the backing track on the acoustic guitar at a slower tempo hoping to resolve some of the timing issues. But pre recording it was still a major problem so I abandoned this one.

In video 7 I attempt to play the whole song through incorporating Harmony, Lyrics and Melody to a somewhat improved level but still with timing errors, missed notes and very flat vocals. I acknowledge myself at this stage I should be using a click track.

Still struggling with timing and transition between verses for both vocals and melody this is the best attempt so far. However more practise is definitely required to get this piece to an acceptable performance standard.

I have learnt a number of significant lessons working on this piece. Firstly always use a metronome or click track. Secondly my vocals are extremely flat and could do with a lot of work. Thirdly it is very difficult to switch from playing chord harmony to melody line without a transitional bar or some device or facility to prepare for the melody playing.

yeah getting Tumblr to go to a Reddit post I know.

So humans this here is a good and interesting point, so far each part of the intro has linked to one EP, the running through town, the running through the forest, Crazy Bridges, Neo at the table and So forth. What then is the Burning Book?

I first think the burning of the book is meant to be team RWBY and Jaune deciding to say screw it regarding following the narrative of the fairytale and doing their own thing and finding their own solution.

Perhaps JWBY comes across the literary book or something.

Ever After's world is about the never-ending cycle, the players may change a little along the way, but they're ultimately doing the same things.

That works for them. But Ruby and company aren't afterans. they need to do something different, HOWEVER

Jaune is based on Joan of Arc, who gets burned at the stake, as Jaune IS A PART OF THE FAIRYTALE, the book could mean him, this also explains the other scene we see and also fulfills the death of all of JNPR the same way their fairytale counterparts are killed, but that's a little nuts, I don't think Jaune will die, not here.

How Does the Time Travel Theory Play Here? as some of you know one bandwagon I've jumped on is the concept of RWBY time travel. As seen in the Everafter time travel is something the writers want so we must see where it can fit in, as CRWBY have told us they want to show Ozpins Death, among other V3 events It is most likely that RWBY will be spat out of the tree somewhere in beacon during V3 and V10 is about them making their way back to the Present, perhaps picking up some relics before Salem and Cinder on their way. the are many versions of the V3 time travel theory and the one I Prefer is that V10 will switch between the 1-2-RWBY crew and the rest of the cast in Vacuo, we watch both sides until eventually epic split scene and we join the 2 plots together Volume ends ect. ect.

SO HOW DOES THAT LINE UP WITH BIG BURNY BOOK!!?

I think the book represents the end of Alyx's story. CRWBY (or eddy) said this was a short volume, a quick deviation. The book represents Lewis, and Alyx's relations, and Ruby will find it all out during her little trip to the tree. thus closing the book on the fairytale, another footnote that team RWBY will discuss upon their victory in however many volumes we go for, oh btw this lot was real, and whatever.

The burning night will be whatever the end of Jaune's white rabbit arc will be, the acceptace he cant save them all.

as for the other scenes, I'm not sure just yet.

So we've finally seen summer in "full" i was kind of right, really wanted ruby out of the tree by now but this is fine I guess.

So summers axe is drawing her daughter, i think we can say ruby will become summer, or at least very much like her, enough for tai and wrote to double take (and raven i guess). Why else would she have a full Maya model? Now this could be temporary, or perhaps we have a dream sequence with summer and ruby talking and summer tells her all about how she heard her at the grave this whole time, but yeah we gonna see that full model one way or another.

And yes the blacksmith is alyx, it just is.

The idea of ruby and summer being the same person i disregard on first viewing i disagree with that far, but it's a possibility I'll admit, a wierd one tho in terms of imprecations. I think it's a metaphor if a full circle not an actual circular family tree.Alright imma break this down, expect theory's later this week, see ya - D
