S1 Ep 1
Rosa grills Vash about the rope:
"Then why are you tied up?"
Vash starts to fumble with the rope. "Ta...ta-d..." He grunts and shakes his shoulders.
"Taaaa...." He starts jumping up and down. "Ta-aa-daaaa!"
He steps on the rope, skids, and face plants before popping straight back up. "I'm fine! My nose is fine!"
Roberto chuckles, "What about your pride?"

Hi! How are you? If it's alright with you, may I request a one-shot (or hcs, if you are more of comfortable) Vash x reader (female, if that's okay) where she is Meryl's sister and she is a total sweetheart who always helps Vash?
A/N: Hi Anon! Thanks for your request - I do try to keep the reader gender-neutral, just for inclusivity reasons :) Here are some headcanons for you!
Tumblr media
You being Meryl's sibling can go one of two ways - either you're the older sibling, or you're the baby sibling.
If you're the older sibling, you're the one keeping Meryl's hotheaded self from getting herself into worse trouble than she already does, while if you're the baby, well, let's just say trouble happens even MORE
While Meryl can be more emotional and impulsive in her actions, you're known as the more caring and gentle of the two.
Vash meets you shortly after Meryl and Roberto find him outside Jenorah Rock, when you end up in the same town as your sibling purely by coincidence
"Meryl!" You'd exclaim as you noogie your sister affectionately, embarrassing her in front of Vash and Roberto and a handful of townspeople
Your nature would definitely catch Vash's eye and he'd find himself talking to you more than he expected
He definitely sees how you and Meryl are related, though, as you share the same temper and despite Meryl being the more openly-emotional/impulsive one, you have your moments too
There was a moment when Vash interrupted you and Meryl as you squabbled and you both turned to yell "The adults are talking!" at the same second
Vash just burst into laughter at that - you and Meryl were siblings, alright
Vash also sees you taking care of everybody in the group, always ensuring everybody is hydrated, fed, and well-rested as best as possible without a second thought
You also don't hesitate to sacrifice or give away anything you have that somebody else needs more than you do
Vash sees that and has even been on the receiving end of your kindness more than from anybody else in his life, and it melts his heart
"Oh, Vash, are you hungry? Here, have some of my food, I'm not that hungry!"
"Vash, that looks heavy, here, let me help you!"
"Can't sleep, Vash? Me, neither. Are you cold? You can take my sleeping bag and add it to yours if you want extra layers, I'll probably stay awake for a while longer."
Vash seriously hasn't met anybody as giving or as caring as you and to say you have a special place in his heart is an understatement
Vash does end up falling for you somewhere along the line without really realizing it
Meryl ends up being the one to make him realize it out when she says something along the lines of "Can you stop oogling my sibling? I know you're in love with them but seriously, you're making me nauseous."
The blush on Vash's face after Meryl said that matched the colour of his jacket and he spluttered in a futile attempt to argue or dismiss Meryl's statement, but one look from Meryl shut him up real quick
Meryl loves you dearly and sees that Vash makes you happy, but for some reason, you're both blind idiots
Time for ultimate wingwoman Meryl to shine
Locking the two of you in closets by "accident", having you two share rooms on your travels, you name it, Meryl's orchestrating it, even roping in Wolfwood and Roberto into her schemes to get you and Vash together
Meryl eventually sits down with you, maybe after a particularly difficult emotional moment and just talks with you
"I see how happy Vash makes you, (Y/N). I know you're in love with him. You should give this a chance."
When you and Vash finally come to your senses, Meryl is the first to exclaim in relief, "FINALLY!"
Meryl is your and Vash's #1 supporter and always will be, and you know Meryl's gonna hang the "she got you and Vash together" thing over you until you die

Hello!
“Hello!” It was as simple as that. “Oh! Um…hi, are you…uh….ok?” You took notice of me, granted I was strung upside down on some pole-branch thing or whatever it was. “I could really use some help right now. I’d get myself down but seeing as I’m a bit tied up at the moment I can’t.” I decided to play a joke on you. I let down my prosthetic arm down for you to reach and as soon as you grabbed it and pulled it, POP! It came off! Naturally you started to freak out, to which i started to laugh. What? It was funny ok? “You’re creepy! Maybe I should move along!” Oh shit wait!! “No please! Wait! I’m sorry ok! It was supposed to be a joke, I’m sorry! Please help me!” You sigh and began to walk towards me. “Alright I’ll help you, but if you pull any more jokes, I’m going to thwack you with your own arm while you’re still strung upside down!” “I promise I won’t do anymore jokes! Please don’t hurt me, I’m really sorry! Please help me!” You began to untie me, freeing me from the restraints. “Thanks so much! I really owe you!” “So how’d you get into that predicament anyways if you don’t mind me asking?” “Oh um, I just ran into some trouble is all.” I said while readjusting my arm. It’s really not worth mentioning on how that happened, really it’s not! “Well I best be going now, safe travels!” No wait! “Uh wait! Where are you going?!” “It’s not your concern.” “Um…I…uh… I only ask because I’m concerned for your safety, that’s all! I promise! It’s not exactly safe to be traveling alone, let alone on foot! Look you can come with me, there’s a dinner nearby! I can take you there so that way you can rest up!” “How can I trust you? I just met you!” You’re so smart! And so cautious too! Heh heh, so cute!!! “You can trust me! I devote myself into helping others and saving people! I promise!” “Okay then.” Yes! You gave me a chance! “I promise you won’t regret thi-hey! Wait! Whoa!” You still had that rope!
Tumblr media
“This is insurance for me in case you try something funny. Don’t think I didn’t see your gun there mister!” Wow you’re so smart!! I really like that! “Ah! Uh, ok! Whatever you say! I’ll take you there!” “So where is this dinner anyway? Is it over here?” “Ah! No it’s this way!” “This way?” “Ah! No the other way!” “Other way? You mean this way?” “Gah! No wrong way still!” “Is there even a dinner! Are you trying to take me somewhere else secluded!” “Yes! Wait, I mean no! I mean there is a dinner I promise!” “Then where is it?!” “I can take you there if you stop dragging me around! Whaaahaahaha!” Eventually, we got there. I had to explain to Rosa that you were a friend of mine, and only reason why you had me tied up was because I spooked you. “Vash! That’s no way to treat someone that’s trying to help you! You could’ve gotten shot! Or worse! I’m so sorry about him! He’s such a goofball! He means no harm! Honest!” Thanks Rosa. That really means so little a lot! Wait, what? I care about Rosa. “So what brings you here? Other than Vash that is.” Rosa asks. “Oh, I’m just resting up. Trying to get somewhere else.” “Oh where are you going?” Yeah, where are you going? I don’t want you to leave my side just yet. I want you to stay around me Jeneora Rock a little more. “Just somewhere better for me, that’s all.” What could that mean? Where is better? “Well, I hope you find a better place to live, you won’t find much here. Our Plant hasn’t been working well.” “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you can get that fixed. I know that it must be difficult to live with broken Plant.” “Yeah it is, all we can do is hold out for hope though. Vash has been wonderful to us! He helps us out! Isn’t that right Vash?” “Y-yeah! guilty as charged! Heh heh he!” An idea formed in my head. “You should stay at my place! Free of charge! I mean you aren’t sticking around that much, so I figured my place would be a best place for you to rest up!” Please work please work PLEASE WORK! “Well, I guess I could, I do need to save up on cash,” Yes yes YES! “in that case I’ll stay with you. But just for a little bit! Okay?!” “Y-yes, that’s fine.” YEEEEEEAAAASSS! “I’ll show the place! It’s not much, but it’ll do. I’ll let you have my bed, I can sleep on a chair or on the floor.” “What?! I can’t take your bed!” “Sure you can! I insist! You’re my guest! You should have my bed, I can handle sleeping on the floor or a chair.” “Okay then, if you insist.” You looked hesitant on taking my bed, you’re so considerate! How nice. Soooooo nice. “Say, I never got your name, what is it?” You tell me your name, it’s wonderful. “What a lovely name! I like it!” You began to giggle. Your giggles are so cute! “Thanks!” You ended up sleeping on my bed, and well, I slept on the floor. I faced worse, this is nothing. I can’t believe I have you all to myself right now. Why do these thoughts keep happening? What’s happening to me? Anyways you’ll be leaving in the morning, with more supplies to spare! I do hope you find a place that’s mean for you. Wishing you the best. Morning comes and you’re off. You said you’re goodbyes and I wished you farewell. “I hope we see each other again in the future Vash!” “Me too!” You wave goodbye, so do I, and your off before I even knew it. I watched you leave and become smaller and smaller. Becoming a small dot until I couldn’t see you anymore. I really hope I do see you again. I look forward to it. And it all started with a hello.
“Vash. Why have I heard that name before? Come to think of it, why does he look so familiar?”
————————————————————————
A/N: Holy shit this is my first time doing something like this! I’m really nervous and excited about it at the same time! I hope it’s good! Not sure if I’ll make another part anytime soon, or make it into a series, I would need to take my time on that. Make sure you check my tags! I put little tidbits in there!

Reporter’s Notes - Chapter Eleven: Glasses
A vashmeryl fic
Author’s Note:
Alright folks… strap in! We’re getting into some canon plot with feelings.
————————————————————————————————————
She didn’t know what she was looking at. It was hard for her to focus on which of the two was most startling to her… the unfurled plant? Or… the ethereal vision of Vash standing in front of it. He looked at her, but not seeing. Almost like she and the others weren’t even there, and he was beyond… somewhere else. His vacant stare wasn’t what enraptured her, it was the similar markings to the plant behind him, but his were glowing. Her mouth was dry, her lungs not daring to breathe, yet she somehow managed to speak.
“Vash…? That pattern… it’s like a plant!” She breathed, but as she said it, he collapsed. His tall body crumpling to the floor
Her body moved before she could think, running to where he lay on the ground. She fell to her knees once she reached him, immediately picking up what she could of his head and shoulders, the weight of him too much in his unresponsive state. She heard Wolfwood and Roberto’s hurried steps come up behind her. Tears started to fall from her face.
“Shit…” breathed the Undertaker, kneeling beside her and putting a hand on Vash’s shoulder, giving him a hard shake. “C’mon blondie… snap out of it!”
Vash’s body just jostled against hers, his head loose in her lap.
She heard Roberto speak above her, “C’mon kid, this ain’t funny.”
Meryl looked down at him, his eyes half open but in a completely unconscious daze. She started to panic. She removed his sunglasses and brushed his hair from his face to gently pat his cheeks, “Please Vash! Wake up!” Nothing. Just his glowing eyes and face, still unfocused. She felt warm, shallow breathing against her fingers closest to his mouth.
A clatter of unfamiliar footsteps joined them in the plant room.
Another panic, no fear, set into her. They couldn’t see him like this. The markings weren’t fading and she didn’t know if they would. What would they do if they saw him? She looked up at Wolfwood without speaking, conveying her fear and concern.
He nodded to her, “Got it.,” Turing to face the Humpback’s crew, shielding her and Vash with the Punisher. Roberto also turned, providing an extra barrier.
“What seems to be the problem?” Roberto asked, keeping his tone casual.
“You lot! What are you doing in the plant room?” One of the men shouted, stepping closer.
Meryl was so grateful for her veteran mentor and his quick thinking in this moment, “Seeking shelter… this blasted steamer was going to crash. This is the innermost room… seemed like a good place to hunker down.” He gestured around him.
Meryl heard the footsteps of the crew move closer to them. She quickly shrugged off her jacket, wrapping it around Vash’s shoulders and head. She cradled him to her body, making the glowing disappear from sight.
“Who shot the lock on the door?” One of the men asked, tone accusatory.
“Sorry shipmate,” Wolfwood drawled, “That’d be me. You see, I was in a frenzy to get to safety.” He patted the Punisher alongside him.
“What’s with the girl and the other person on the floor?” They were starting to sound anxious.
“Our old pal here fell and hit his head during all the commotion,” it was Roberto who answered this time. “He might wanna file a lawsuit, given everything that’s happened.”
‘Thank god for Roberto,’ Meryl thought as the men backed off saying, “Hey now, that’s not necessary. Just head back up to the deck, we’re evacuating everyone into Hopeland.”
“Yessir!” Answered Wolfwood. He turned to Roberto, “Ya got blondie? I doubt shortie could lift more than a leg of his and I know his spindly ass is lighter than my gun. Your choice gramps.” He smirked, a deflection.
Roberto groaned, muttering his tried and true, “I’m too old for this,” as he turned and squatted down to Meryl. “Alright newbie, help me get our old pal loaded up.”
Meryl placed a temple of Vash’s glasses into the toggled rope of her tunic before zipping up her jacket over his face and tying the sleeves under his chin. Spiked bits of blonde hair peeked through the collar. She helped guide Vash’s limp body to Roberto as he lifted him up into a shoulder carry. They walked out past the crew and onto the deck, Meryl in step behind Roberto worriedly watching Vash’s arms swinging loosely over her mentor’s back.
—————————
They sat on the deck, sandstorm brewing, and waited for their group’s evacuation instructions. Vash’s head was back in Meryl’s lap, still veiled away from wandering eyes. She kept peeking every few minutes into her coat to see if the glowing subsided. It had not and each passing minute had her anxiety rising. At least his eyes were closed now.
Wolfwood collected Vash’s bag on the other side of the deck and was now sitting quietly with them, him and Roberto smoking. Wolfwood broke the silence, “So are we gonna talk about what we just saw with needle-noggin and the plant?”
Meryl snapped her head up to him, but Roberto spoke first, “Not now… There’s too many people around to overhear and our ‘humanoid’ is not even awake to speak for himself.”
Meryl squeezed Vash to her at the word “humanoid.” She couldn’t process that right now. She just wanted him to wake up and be okay.
As they sat in silence, a pristinely dressed group in white approached them, so at odds with the rest of the crowd on the steamer.
An older, sandy blonde-haired man with hazel eyes and freckles came up to them first. Meryl looked up at him and his attire, seeing the patch on this chest of what seemed to be a uniform. It read, “Project SEEDS,” and suddenly everything clicked into place. She looked down on the patch on the right arm of Vash’s coat and turned her head back to the man sayiing, “You’re Vash’s family.” Roberto and Wolfwood looked at her in shock.
The man stopped, also looking surprised at her, but he set a small smile on his face answering, “Yes… I’m Brad. We’re here to help Vash. May I?” He gestured to the tall gunman in her lap. She nodded and watched as he stooped down in front of her. Taking his hand to look into her jacket at him.
He swore, “Shit, it’s one of the heavier episodes.” He turned to his party, “We’re gonna need a stretcher.” A handful of the group turned to leave, worried expressions on their faces. “How long has he been like this?” He asked, taking Vash’s pulse through the jacket.
“We found him like this about an hour ago,” Roberto answered, “Although, we don’t know how long he looked like that before we got him. He pretty much collapsed when we arrived.”
Brad nodded, “And the plant? What state was it in?”
Meryl didn’t know, she was so worried about Vash. Roberto answered, “Fine? It was ‘out’ and touching hands with him through the container when we got there. You mind telling us what the hell is going on?”
“I will,” Brad said, standing back up and looking over his shoulder as his team came back with the stretcher, “but we need to take care of Vash first.”
Vash’s family gently took him from Meryl, and she watched as they loaded him onto the stretcher. She heard Roberto talking to Brad about getting their truck to wherever they were following. Brad answered with an offer for one his team to ride with him and give directions. She just stared as they started to carry Vash away.
Wolfwood slung Vash’s bag over his shoulder, putting his other hand on her head, “You ride with needle noggin… I’ll go with gramps and load the truck up.”
——————————————-
The ride in the van was a bit of a bustle. Meryl would have taken in the strange technology of the vehicle if she wasn’t so fixated on Vash’s family doing their best to help him. Once he was in the safety of the van, they removed her jacket from his head, and gave it back to her. She clutched it to her chest to ground herself, it smelled faintly of the desert and sunshine… ‘him.’ They gave him an IV and minutes later, she watched as his markings finally started to ebb away. She breathed. The rest of the short ride was uneventful.
They arrived at a grounded spaceship, centered in the sandstorm they drove into. She numbly as she watched them take him away, following them into the little room where he was now resting. His family left, stating that most of his recovery would be him sleeping it off at this point. Meryl spotted the chair next to a little table before sliding it over the the left side of his bed.
For a while, Meryl just watched him sleep, a little relief moving through her now that he looked more peaceful sleeping. It was much better than the unconscious daze that was induced by his glowing. She started to put her jacket back on when her hands brushed his sunglasses on her tunic. She looked down, removing them before opening the temples, placing them on her face. They were much too big for his small head, and as she looked through the lenses, she realized they weren’t opaque enough to provide any sun protection for his light colored eyes. She made a confused face before a voice cut into the room.
“They’re shooting glasses,” Roberto explained, walking in.
She quickly removed them from her face before saying, “Huh?”
“The orange tint,” he continued pointing at the frames, “filters the bright blue light of the desert sky and diminishes the landscape haze. It also ups the contrast, making it easier to spot your target. They’re not colored that way to align with our Stampede’s rose-colored view and morals of the world.”
She looked down at the glasses, thinking how she how both of her musings were wrong during her gun lesson with Vash. They weren’t there to diminish or protect his bright, teal eyes, but to increase his accuracy.
She looked back up to Roberto, “Why would he use something like this?” She asked, holding them up, “He clearly doesn’t need them. We’ve seen him be deadly accurate and perform unimaginable feats with that gun of his.”
Roberto chuckled at her, “You’re using the wrong word, newbie. How are you supposed to be a reporter if you can’t smith words properly?”
She looked at him confused.
“‘Mercifully,’ is the word you’re looking for, not ‘deadly’” he said knowingly to her, “My guess is that they’re no more than an added security blanket for him every time he pulls that gun out of its holster. He wants to make sure he never kills,” he nodded to the glasses in her hands, “That’s not the only bit of mercy he carries… You recall in Jeneora Rock that he needed .22 caliber bullets for that duel, correct?”
She nodded, unsure of where he was going with this bit of information.
“.22 caliber bullets aren’t designed to kill humans, they’re much too small. They can injure and bring down someone, but without a true shot, it is very hard to kill with that caliber. Hell, my tiny derringer could do more damage with its higher caliber… Our Typhoon is a pacifist through and through.” He shrugged, looking at Vash sleeping on the bed. “He cares too damn much, just like you,” he turned to her.
“Newbie…” She held his eye contact, “You’re getting in too deep for this to be strictly about an article anymore. Part of being a good reporter is knowing not to cross the line with your heart. You need to keep the story objective.”
She looked down, grappling with what he had just gently accused her of. She didn’t have an answer for him. Roberto sighed, and turned on his heel, waving his hand over his head as he left the room.
Meryl looked at the glasses again and then at Vash. She then stood, putting the chair back with its table before walking back to Vash’s left side. She folded the temples together and placed his glasses next to his pillow. Her hand went out, brushing his soft hair over his forehead, and planted a soft kiss on his crown.
She left his room knowing she had much to think about.
