Apparently, Cats, and Children: GUESS 69204-4 years old 38 lbs At Manhattan ACC waiting for LOVE Super Cute, super compact, friendly tail waggy, social, tolerant of handling. housetrained, lived in harmony with two kids - Soft & gently playful with dogs during behavior eval TO BE KILLED 8/22/19 GUESS WHO! Yes it's ya boy Guess. He's back at the shelter and probably even cuter than the first time, if that's possible. We aren't sure why he's back but we know he's been there since the very end of July and now he's out of time, added to "The List," in danger of losing his precious life so he needs a hero and a second chance in a loving home. ASAP. Guess has contracted that pesky shelter cold thats very easy to treat, especially once they are out of the shelter, but this is used as an excuse to euthanize. That's why we have to work extra hard to get Guess' plight (and all the others) out there before it's too late. Guess is an adorable boy - compact, playful and tail waggy. He did well with children outside of the shelter, and while he's been at the shelter he's doing well with other dogs, especially during his behavior evaluation. Guess is 4 years old and badly in need of a second chance with a confident, experienced owner whose going to make him feel safe and love no matter what. Please help us share him to the moon and back for his happy every after. These dogs are not displaying concerning behaviors in shelter, and the owner surrender profile (where available) is positive. Some dogs with Level 1 determinations may still have potential challenges, but these are challenges that the behavior team believe can be handled by the majority of adopters. The potential challenges could include no young children, prefers to be the only dog, no dog parks, no cats, kennel presence, basic manners, low level fear and mild anxiety. Level 2 Dogs with Level 2 determinations will be suitable for adopters with some previous dog experience. They will have displayed behavior in the shelter (or have owner reported behavior) that requires some training, or is simply not suitable for an adopter with minimal experience. Dogs with a Level 2 determination may have multiple potential challenges and these may be presenting at differing levels of intensity, so careful consideration of the behavior notes will be required for counselling. Potential challenges at Level 2 include no young children, single pet home, resource guarding, on-leash reactivity, mouthiness, fear with potential for escalation, impulse control/arousal, anxiety and separation anxiety. Level 3 Dogs with Level 3 determinations will need to go to homes with experienced adopters, and the ACC strongly suggest that the adopter have prior experience with the challenges described and/or an understanding of the challenge and how to manage it safely in a home environment. In many cases, a trainer will be needed to manage and work on the behaviors safely in a home environment. It is likely that every dog with a Level 3 determination will have a behavior modification or training plan available to them from the behavior department that will go home with the adopters and be made available to the New Hope Partners for their fosters and adopters. Some of the challenges seen at Level 3 are also seen at Level 1 and Level 2, but when seen alongside a Level 3 determination can be assumed to be more severe. The potential challenges for Level 3 determinations include adult only home (no children under the age of 13), single pet home, resource guarding, on-leash reactivity with potential for redirection, mouthiness with pressure, potential escalation to threatening behavior, impulse control, arousal, anxiety, separation anxiety, bite history (human), bite history (dog) and bite history (other). New Hope Rescue Only Dog is not publicly adoptable. Prospective fosters or adopters need to fill out applications with New Hope Partner Rescues to save this dog.

She is full of joy, plays exuberantly and wants nothing more than to play, play play! There’s not a thing wrong with her, she is a puppy in need of training! As a volunteer writes: “Sweet, bubbly and deliciously refreshing, Dr Thunder lives up to her namesake by being the most effervescent puppy at the Care Center. Being Alone, Anaconda, and Andrew Bogut: He's promising you plenty of kisses and hugs! A tiny baby boy. affectionate, loving. playful, and sweet wonders when he will ever find a forever home. Adores people. dogs, everyone! A gem. ACE id 41618, 10 Mos. Old, 4z lbs of Precious, at Manhattan ACC TO BE KILLED 12/22/18 “The right family, the wrong time / The right script, the wrong line / The right poem, the wrong rhyme / and a piece of you, that was never mine….” ACE (aka Honeypuff) is wondering what in the world he has ever done that would cause him to be sent to the shelter 4 times! And he’s only 9 months old! ☹ Believe us, it was NEVER his fault. Because ACE is as precious as can be, he adores other dogs, is happy to leap into your laps for cuddles and kisses, and he always has a big happy smile and a wagging tail for everyone he meets. We are heartsick that this boy has been ping ponged about for all his young life, and we really want to see a family dedicated to his happiness step up to the table and welcome him in for the holidays. He’s so confused at this point, so sad, so anxious, and he’s back in the one place he never wanted to see a 4th time. We know that his current state of being is something that will dissolve once he is in his forever home, with an experienced family who will give him the structure and stability he has always dreamed of, but has never been able to find. Again, nothing was ever his fault – but it takes a toll on the heart. You won’t find a more loving little chap in all the world. Read the volunteer comment below, then see beyond all the messiness of failed adoptions and failures as parents. Then rush to foster or adopt ACE and give him the forever family for the holidays, for forever, that he has always deserved. Message or page or email us at [email protected] for assistance fostering or adopting little Ace. Let’s give him his holiday wish – a long life in a loving family home! As a volunteer writes: “Adorability levels are sky high at the Care Center right now and it's all thanks to Ace! This bouncy boy just as sweet as his name suggests and he brings all things puppy to the table from giving kisses and snuggles (he still fits on a lap!) to showing off his come, sit and stay commands to plowing through treat after treat with lip-smacking delight. Ace is a fine leash walker, greeting passing people and dogs of every size with happy good manners and takes care of all his business outside too. Toys aren't really his thing but he enjoys running and jumping around, playing tag and just getting into good-hearted mischief with his friends. Welcome Ace into your life and smiles and fun times are guaranteed! He's got the looks, smarts and affectionate personality to make a wonderful pet, all you have to do is ask...” My playgroup video! Manhattan ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Black / White, Male Owner Surrender Reason: Illness Shelter Assessment Raing: New Hope Rescue Only Intake Behavior Rating: 1. Green AT RISK NOTE: Ace has a low threshold for arousal and becomes mouthy and unable to handle. Ace's behavior escalates quickly and has potential to lead to human directed aggression. Ace would do best with a rescue group that can provide behavior modification for his more challenging behaviors. Medically, Ace seems healthy. INTAKE NOTES – DATE OF INTAKE, 10/24/2018: Honey puff had a loose body and wagging tail, sat for treats and played with toys with counselors OWNER SURRENDER NOTES – BASIC INFORMATION: Ace is a roughly 9 month old dog whom was gotten from ACC and kept for roughly 1 month. Unfortunately due to showing signs of being ill he was unable to be kept. Ace previously lived with 3 adults. Around strangers he is described as friendly and plays somewhat rough. Around children of ages 3, 5 and 6 he is described as playful and plays gentle. Around large dogs he is described as playful but is described as fearful around smaller dogs. He has not been socialized with cats. He has no known resource guarding issues. He has no previous bite histories. He is not housetrained and has a very high energy level. He has never had any medical issues. Other Notes:: Ace is described to urinate indoors daily and can be somewhat hard to control due to his high energy. When left home alone he likes to chew on wooden objects, wooden walls or underneath the table. He isn't bothered with storms or loud storms. He isn't bothered with having his food or toys touched, being held or restrained or being given a bath. He enjoys when unfamiliar people approach his home or owner. For a New Family to Know: Ace is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable and pushy. He will follow you around when home with you, likes to chew on bones, was being fed West Farms dry food 3x a day and is not considered house trained. When left unattended he will destroy walls and/or furniture, has been crate trained and does well for a few hours, knows the commands sit, stay and go to your room, was being walked 3 times a days and pulls very hard on leash. SHELTER ASSESSMENT – DATE OF ASSESSENT: 12/6/2018 Look:: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor's face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity:: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag:: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft 'popping' of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Paw squeeze 1:: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Paw squeeze 2:: 2. Dog gently places open mouth over the Assessor's hand without applying pressure. Flank squeeze 1:: Item not conducted Flank squeeze 2:: Item not conducted Toy:: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His/her body is between you and the toy, and is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Summary:: Ace approached the assessor with a soft body and jumped up in a social manner. During tag, he became very mouthy, applying hard pressure to the assessor's arm. He allowed all handling. PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: Ace may be most compatible with other playful dogs. Summary (1):: 9/16: When introduced off leash to dogs, Ace follows and attempts to mount. Summary (2):: 10/26: When introduced off leash to male and female dogs, Ace engages in vocal play. Summary (3):: 12/7-8: When introduced off leash to a female dog, Ace engages in pushy, vocal play. INTAKE BEHAVIOR - Date of intake:: 10/25/2018. Summary:: Loose body, allowed handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR - Date of initial:: 12/5/2018. Summary:: Social, allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL:: Ace is described as having a very high level of activity. He is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: Ace has been highly social with handlers throughout his stay at the care center. He seeks attention from volunteers and staff constantly and solicits petting and interaction. He displays typical puppy behaviors but has been receptive to training with treats. Ace has the potential for over arousal, causing him to become jumpy and mouthy, biting at the handlers loose clothing. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to low threshold for arousal and potential to tip into aggression that Ace has displayed at the care center, we recommend an adult only home. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the low threshold for arousal and potential to tip into aggression that Ace has displayed at the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: : House soiling,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Social hyperarousal,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Low threshold for arousal Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Ace jumps up a lot on people in a social manner. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Social hyperarousal: Ace quickly becomes aroused in the presence of people, jumping up and mouthing, sometimes with hard pressure. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used to teach Ace to remain calm when people and other exciting things are around. He should be reward with treats when calm. If he escalates to mounting or mouthing, people should immediately walk away from and separate themselves from Ace. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Ace has shown some mouthiness in the care center and at times applies hard pressure. This is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever Ace's teeth make contact with skin). House soiling: Ace is noted to have accidents in the house, and will likely need guidance with house training. We recommend positive reinforcement, reward-based training only. Low threshold for arousal: Ace has displayed a low threshold for arousal and has tipped over into snapping and biting when aroused. Immediate intervention and consultation with a qualified veterinary behaviorist/professional trainer is strongly recommended to aid in addressing this issue to prevent further behavioral concerns that may appear in the future if not treated right away. We recommend only force-free, reward based training when introducing or exposing Ace to new and unfamiliar situations. Being Alone, Benadryl, and Cats: "She gladly welcomes new friends of every kind & is always ready to believe the sun will come out again tomorrow. A Volunteer Cuddly Lady' Id 64996, 2 Yrs., 52 lbs. of cuddles Manhattan Acc TO BE KILLED - 6/25/2019 Bouncy, sweet, cuddly, and very special, LADY is an absolute gem of a dog who makes friends of every kind – adults, kids, strangers, and dogs alike! We’re smitten! <3 A volunteer writes: “Lady Luck may not yet have smiled on this particular Lady but you'd never know it from her upbeat attitude and open-hearted goodwill toward the world. She's like Pollyanna and Annie rolled into one goofy teen puppy package, gladly welcoming new friends of every kind and always ready to believe the sun will come out again tomorrow. Excitable, playful and outgoing with strangers, kids and dogs alike, Lady's always on the move. Even when she's standing still, her curious eyes are on the lookout for squirrels to chase or passing folks to befriend. She does know how to sit and stay on command but prefers running around with her peers in the yard or giving out bouncy hugs to anyone who'll have her, so we're hoping she'll find a family who relishes being active and exploring the great outdoors as much as she does. Lady is a diamond in the rough, but with a lot of love and a little polish to her manners, she's going to light up your life like no one else. Ask to meet this cutie at our Manhattan Care Center and let her shine for you!” Message our page or email us at [email protected] for assistance fostering or adopting this cuddly, sweet and very special girl. Apparently, Best Friend, and Cats: Banks ADORABLE SWEET, JOYFUL LOVEBUG ADORED A9 MOS. OLD CHILD FOLLOWED HIS FAMILY AROUND & IS FOND OF FACE LICKING. ID 58882, 12 MOS 52 LBS OF JOY DREAMING OF AN ACTIVE FAMILY MANHATTAN ACCI TO BE KILLED 4/30/19 Happy, sweet Banks who lived with a 9-month-old child, followed the family from room to room, and was apparently fond of face licking. <3 A volunteer writes: “Banks is a happy puppy who doesn't realize he's actually grown up, and he will do whatever it takes to be your new best friend. While some of his attempts are a bit clumsy and awkward, they only make him more endearing. Our play date quickly showed he was worthy of a dance cameo in Pharrell's "Happy" video. He's overjoyed to come out of his cage, eager to bound down the steps, thrilled to go for a walk, and ecstatic to be able to play. Tennis balls are a favorite because he can run, jump and launch into a game of chase all on his own. Not surprisingly, he's strong on a leash. When he gets overly excited he leaps in the air, and if you sit down he'll try his best to climb on you. A class in Manners 101 would be helpful. He already knows how to take treats softly and will sit if you bribe him with a good one. His previous family describes him as timid but loving and affectionate. He lived with a 9-month-old child, followed the family from room to room, and was apparently fond of face licking.” Message our page or email us at [email protected] for assistance fostering or adopting Banks --- and be prepared for a lifetime of “face lickings.” 😊 BANKS, ID# 58882, 1 Yr. old, 52.6 lbs., Neutered Male Manhattan ACC, Large Mixed Breed, Gray / White Owner Surrender Reason: Shelter Assessment Rating: LEVEL 3 No children (under 13) Single-pet home Recommend no dog parks Medical Behavior Rating: OWNER SURRENDER NOTES - BASIC INFORMATION: Banks is a young large mixed breed male dog. The previous owner mentioned that he may be timid at first when meeting new people, but with a slow approach he seems to open up and become very friendly and playful. Banks previously lived in the home with a 9 month old child. The previous owner mentioned that they did not have much interaction; however when they had limited interaction, Banks would lick the child's face. Banks´ behavior around other dogs or cats was not observed in the previous home. Banks has no known bite history and he is partially housetrained. His energy level is described as high. He has been fed a diet of dry food about 2-3 times a day. He is described to have a very high energy level. He has been an indoors only dog. When in the home, the previous owner mentioned that Banks likes to follow you around from room to room or be in the same room as you. He is not a big fan of toys but the previous owner mentioned that he likes to play catch outside. When being walked, the previous owner mentioned that he pulls very hard on the leash because he is seemingly excited. The previous owner mentioned that Banks allows for her to give him baths and he seems un bothered by the bathing. As the distance decreases, his posture becomes stiffer and stiffer, though his tail remains mid-line. Once the gate is opened, Brownie allows the female helper to greet his rear end then moves away slowly. He spends much of the time away from her, exploring. When she approaches to greet him face to face, Brownie once again stiffens his posture. Date of intake:: 12/15/2018 Summary:: Allowed all handling upon intake Date of initial:: 12/15/2018 Summary:: allowed handling, gentle ENERGY LEVEL:: Brownie will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable Recommendations:: Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner Recommendations comments:: Single pet home/no dog parks: Due to Brownie's previous bite history and observed reactivity towards other dogs, we are recommending he be placed in a home where he can remain as the only pet in the home. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the severity for Brownie's reactivity towards other dogs combined with the severity of his previous known bite to another dog, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. We recommend exercising safe and appropriate management of Brownie in areas where there are other dogs/animals to prevent further incident. Guidance from a professional trainer or veterinary behaviorist is highly advised. Potential challenges: : Destructive behavior,Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration Potential challenges comments:: Destructive behavior: Brownie is reported to show destructive behavior in the home. We are unaware of what, if any, attempts were made to remedy this behavior but we suggest to future adopters that Brownie will need to be provided with physical and mental stimulation and with a variety of appropriate and engaging chew toys so he can engage in necessary chewing behavior without damage to human objects. On leash reactivity/barrier frustration: At the care center Brownie has been observed to react to other dogs on leash, lunging towards them, barking and growling, it was also noted by prior owner. Brownie may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach him to look at you rather than other dogs and novel stimuli that may startle him. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior. Bite history/risk of future aggression: Brownie has previously bitten another dog when he became loose from the owner, running up to large dog and biting her on the neck. Because Brownie is so reactive to other dogs, he needs careful behavior modification and management to prevent future bites. We recommend only force-free, reward-based training methods for Brownie as more aversive techniques are likely to increase fear and increase the risk of aggression. BROWNIE IS RESCUE ONLY…..TO SAVE THIS PUP YOU MUST FILL OUT APPLICATIONS WITH AT LEAST 3 NEW HOPE RESCUES. PLEASE HURRY!!! IF YOU CAN FOSTER OR ADOPT THIS PUP, PLEASE PM OUR PAGE FOR ASSISTANCE. WE CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH LINKS TO APPLICATIONS WITH NEW HOPE RESCUES WHO ARE CURRENTLY PULLING FROM THE NYC ACC. PLEASE SHARE THIS DOG FOR A HOME TO SAVE HIS LIFE.

Date of intake:: 12/27/2017 Summary:: Relaxed, loose and wiggly and allowed all handling. Date of initial:: 12/28/2017 Summary:: Friendly and very active. ENERGY LEVEL:: Boba Fett displays a high energy level in the care center; he is a young, social, enthusiastic dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable Recommendations:: No young children (under 5) Recommendations comments:: No young children:Due to potential toy guarding behavior. We feel that young children may not know to respect this warning (becomes stiff). Older, dog savvy children can be considered as long as the adults feel confident that Boba Fett can be left alone while playing so he does not need to escalate to a growl. Behavior modification for toy guarding behavior can be found at aspcapro.org. Potential challenges: : Resource guarding Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Boba Fett is reported to become stiff over toy resources. It is important to leave Boba Fett alone while he is playing and never to take anything directly from his mouth. When he is asked to drop something he should be traded for an item of equal or higher value, in order to reward Boba Fett for relinquishing the item he has My Medical notes are: Weight: 62.5 lbs 14/01/2018 14/01/2018 13/01/2018 Pre-surgical exam, anesthesia, and surgery performed by ASPCA.
