vicecolder commented on yvesdot's post “One of the darker aspects of writeblr is how much it encourages showy...”
This is just an honest piece of feedback. Is not your post a bit of showy writing? The ultimate show is to talk about not being showy. (To be real about it, I’m making a double meaning point by me writing this showy reply as well HaHa!! Come on now, give me a little credit 4 creativity on my part)
Mostly, my post is a tangent about how you don’t have to stop producing content that gets a lot of likes on tumblr if it makes you feel good or helps your writing process, but spending too much time on periphery of writing - playlists, character quizzes, moodboards, memes - can reduce the amount of time you actually have to write.  Also, I think you may have confused “showy writing” with “talking about my self.” Which, as a reasonable adult, I am perfectly comfortable with doing if I think it’s remotely helpful or topical; after all, nobody who thinks I’m bragging about spending more time on putting words in a document than hoarding aesthetics on pinterest by pointing out that there are 24 hours in a day and most of us have only a handful of those to split between writing and other things that bring us enjoyment needs to read it.

Character Creation Tag
I was tagged by @goddessofnothingatall Thank you, it’s an interesting game!
This is not easy for me, because I’m not good at fleshing out characters and my first draft is not done yet. But hey, it might help.
I’m gonna do the Index, because she’s my favorite.
1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
The fact that she’s the interface of the Library. She’s not human, she’s human-shaped.
2. Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
Nope, she’s all mine.
3. How did you choose their name?
The index in a book allows you to go directly to the topic you’re interested in. I wanted the human-shaped interface to have a similar function, but of course, the Head Librarian changed that.
4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
That would be the fact that they are so tightly connected to everything in the Library.
5. Is there any significance behind their hair colour?
No, au contraire. When she first appears, she states that she can take any shape you want, male, female, any race or feature.
6. Is there any significance behind their eye colour?
See 5.
7. Is there any significance behind their height?
See 5.
8. What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?
She’s nothing like me, but I like the fact that her entire existence is to serve the readers, and still she is calculating and smart about it.
9. Are they based off of you, in some way?
Not at all.
10. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?
Sexuality is not discussed in my book. Gender (transgender/genderfluid) is. Oh, I forgot about the gay dads in the beginning. But the Index doesn’t have a love storyline, in any case. Because it’s a childrens’ story, I have to restrict my book at 50.000 words max, and I can’t pursue all my whims in one book.
11. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: Writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?
I already said I’m not good at fleshing out characters. At first, she only served as comic relief and plot distractions. Har har har, I’m so crazy, look at me doing crazy stuff. She’s starting to become more rounded, but I’m not there yet.
12. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
I’m still working on my first draft. Let’s finish that first, shall we?
13. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
Funny and cunning.
14. What is something about your OC that can make you laugh?
Oh, yeah. Because her primary function was comic relief, she often makes me laugh out loud when I wrote or reread my story.
15. What is something about your OC can make you cry?
Hm, not yet.
16. Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
When I started writing the story, she was too caricatural, too flat. I’ll have to go back and rewrite her when I know her better, but that’s true for any of my characters.
17. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
That her main function is to serve readers, but she is influenced by the politics of the Head Librarian, who hates readers and who thinks they take away the freedom of the auras.
18. What is your favourite fact about your OC?
Ahhh, her entire existence. The fact that she is a human-shaped interface.
