Victoria's Electric Coffin - By Tajima Ikuno (8/10)

This one deserves an honorable mention. The yandere is the main antagonist, not the love interest. There is no real romance until seven years pass and both main characters are adults. The villain and the main character are both obsessed with science and creation.

Victoria Frankenstein has done it. She has the ability to bring back the dead. She took over her father's reaserch after his mysterious death, and she's better than him. At thirteen she has already achieved more than him.

She is surrounded by envy and violence. Her fathers ex-assistant, Henry, is now obsessed with beating her. He creates living corpses with robotic parts. He wants to revolutionize the military. He doesn't figure out that his obsession is love until it's too late, and he doesn't deserve Victoria. He doesn't have any empathy for others and his competitive side is homicidal.

Henry is the secret mastermind behind everything that happens in the plot. At fifteen he was the most impressive genius in science. Victoria stole that from him and now she refuses to join him. She isn't interested in creating human weapons. She made her monster to protect people.

She wants to create a hero.

This is the body she chose to use. Daniel Douglas. She renames him Einz. Einz was miserable as David Douglas. He had to kill and steal to stay alive in the slums. He died knowing he was going to be punished for his sins, but Victoria brings him back. She shows him how wonderful life can be. She makes him do good deeds for people and when he helps those in need he feels whole.

It's like she's an angel that descended to save him.

David Douglas was bad. He killed his foster mother, Justine. He killed the gangsters that ran the bar he worked at. He killed the owner too and he stole money every day. He truly believes he can't be redeemed, but then we see his story.

He loved his foster mother. She was an immigrant with no money, who was really good at playing the piano. The church hired her but they didn't pay enough. So she started working at a bar too, and Daniel did odd jobs there. He thought they were ok, but then the gangsters that owned the place tried to sell her to a brothel. When she refused they made the boss cut her wages. She had to work in a factory, and the fumes quickly made her sick.

Justine did something you should never do. She did something terrible to her son. She asked him to kill her, because she hated being alive. She was a kind person, and the world stepped on her. When she confessed her suicidal desire Danial picked up a blade, confused. He did what she begged him to do, and he killed the gangsters too because it was their fault. He had to blame someone.

David Douglas also killed Victor Frankenstein. Victor was suicidal too. David found him in a gutter with a bottle of pills. He begged for death there just like Justine. He said he was in pain. He said he didn't want to create monsters anymore. David granted his wish and then he was executed, and then his body was given to Victoria.

It was all planned. Henry knew about the assisted suicide. He made sure that Daniel's body was the one that got sent to Victoria. He becomes an excellent antagonist. All of his goals are connected to the Frankenstein family. He feels inferior to Victoria but he wants her. He loved Victor like a father and now he wants Victoria to be by his side. He's cruel and horrible. He treats the bodies he experiments on like trash. He tries to kill her when she says she won't make humanoid weapons with him.

Einz saves her. They run away to Switzerland. Victoria forgives David and she stops making monsters. She becomes a doctor and the townspeople love her. When she turns twenty a friend of theirs asks David when he's going to marry her.

David says he doesn't need that.

He already belongs to her.

He doesn't need a ring or anything else to know that.

Victoria's Electric Coffin Volume 1: Corpse Meets Girl

Though it's a short 3 volume series, Victoria's Electric Coffin volume 1 brings energy and style in spades, making for a fun new twist on a Frankenstein story that finds its roots in New York City. More a story of past and present than humanity however, it has a great focus on regret and guilt that in its own way, illuminating the humanity even in unflappable characters like this story's Frankstein (though his name is Eins here) creator, Victoria. Certainly a short yet sweet read, but also remains one full of details and life- and is complemented by very pretty art and character designs.

It's first volume is definitely worth a read, and you can find out why in the full post at Animehouse.

I LOVE it so far!! I haven't found something so intriguing since I first got into JSHK two years ago.

I love the characters, the story, everything about it is just so well done.

And I love the relationship between Victoria and Eins. There's something very soft and sweet about the way they interact. For everything that Eins was before, and as cold as Victoria can come across, they compliment each other so very well.

(I also have several of the G-Fantasys its printed in since I collect the Hanako covers, and let me tell you...what is coming is going to be wild.)

3 Ships: Dias/Moses from Distortion Detective by farrrrrrr they make me so insane. Nuts, even. Two old women with a toxic relationship past... beautiful. 2nd is Izabella/Jeanne from Torture Princess. I'm WEAK for knight/princess ships, and the way both influence each other and change their lives even before they realize their feelings for each other.... leaves me weak. I'm not sure on the last ship, tbh. Hod/Gebura/Binah from Lobcorp/LoR is a good throuple i enjoy

First Ship Ever: In my heart of hearts of 5 y/o me, I'm pretty sure I was shipping Taichi/Yamato from Digimon Adventure. When they had that falling out and Metalgarurumon fought Wargreymon so Yamato could externalize his feelings.... baby me knew there was no coming back from that one

Last Song: Fly my wings because I cant shut up

Last Movie: I think it was Kizumonogatari that I watched with Mint?? It was a rewatch for me and first watch for him. It was as good as I remembered it to be!!

Currently Reading: My mun just sent me back my copy of crows eye view which I missed dearly, so I think I'll get back to rereading my favourite poems and continue reading the unread ones. On the side I'm also reading the third volume of Victorias Electric Coffin, which I really adore. I don't want it to be over yet

Currently Watching: I've gotten so bad with watching stuff.... Frieren was the only current anime show I was following but I'm already seeing myself fall of from it. So yeah, nothing special, sadly.

Currently Consuming: Drinking an energy drink to get over the noon slump

Died in a forest, parliament watching her as was hanged upside down by her foot,the chain that hung her up reached olympus as electric shock came down from the golden chain and electrocuted her, the parliament watching. ( She screamed so loud one the owls personally came up and clawed her pharynx off. )

Joseph Mariano Lorando-Emerald.

Born in 1924 - 1937

Age : 13

Gender : Male

Died underground, inside a coffin with a little deer, was getting crushed by the earth slowly but surely, his death was a slow one, the walls just kept closing in every hour as he lost air. ( He nearly died from suffocation but the earth crushed him in time for him to let out the most painful scream )

Born in 1938 - 1953

Age : 15

Gender : Male

Died beside the Sea and a Hearth, the Hearth burned so bright that it burned all of him, his hair, his eyes were melted, his skin was peeling off and you could see his skeleton, then a tsunami came out from nowhere and took him into the sea, he couldn't swim up since the water was somehow to heavy, a few minutes before dying of drowning, a bunch of sharks came to him and started eating him. He tried to swim away but it was futile.

Hera

Born in the Titan Era - Immortal

Age : Unknown.

Gender : Female.

Was in the sky, chained up with golden chains, as she was forced to see her children die by the hands of her own siblings. One by one, getting the golden key that will free her from her imprisonment, and watching them fall like a flock of birds. When the last child died, she received the key with a letter on it. Four letters, she just seen her son celebrate her freedom and not two seconds later was burned, then drowned.

She freed herself, and promised to never have children.

( How did she create the children? She could still escape the golden chains whenever they detect the power of hera, so she doesn't really, necessarily need to be in goddess form. Her human form would work just fine, as long as she doesn't use her powers. )

I think "soul mates" is a good way to describe Eins and Victoria. They're not perfect; they're both flawed characters. And yet when they're together, none of that matters. As long as Eins has Victoria, he has hope. As long as Victoria has Eins, she has safety.

For so long they were running from their pasts with no clear future. For David, it was only death, and loss. For Victoria it was failure and hopelessness.

Yet when they came together, they found in each other all the things they thought they had lost forever.

They found love, and a companion. A love that did not need to flaunted, a love that was quiet and warm. It didn't need to be spoken to be understood. It was there, a part of them, from the very moment they met.
