Well, after some further rumination on the theme, I designed a Eurorack Fool as a silhouette vinyl for my case lid.
I basically traced the outline of the Fool and his cliff from the Waite-Rider deck and constructed a plausible minimalist representation of a modular synth: a segmented box with a dial and some catenary cables.
(The design is made of vinyl that's supposed to be removable, so if it gets damaged or if I get sick of it it won't leave too much residue behind.)
I decided to get myself a cricut, just for fun. We're friends, so you have to tell me if I stray too close to the siren song of Modern Farmhouse, as I descend into the endless depths of infinite custom labeling.
Just a quick FYI, Fetch the Bolt Cutters on black vinyl has been repressed in 2021, 2022 and 2023 so it is now on its 4th pressing and available everywhere. All versions are pressed by MPO in France with just subtle differences in the hype sticker but the 2023 version does not come with a download card.
hope you feel better and some sort of treatment sticks and sends you back to normal for an extended length of time i would specify between 15 and 50 years cause boy howdy do you have it rough
fdsafsa thank you! I've gotten a needle in my arm and hopefully it'll help, or at least I hopefully won't get covid again within the next few months, as the problem with long haul covid is even if you recover some, you'll relapse hard if you get reinfected, it could even be triggered again by another virus infection.
So frankly, my stance is for fucks sake don't get covid because it's a gd chance whether you just get randomly disabled out of the blue (and it can trigger up to 6 months after infection!) and every time you catch it it's an increased chance of happening. It's genuinely russian roulette but the bullet is a hellish chronic fatigue syndrome. But if you get a vax, don't get pfizer I've seen reports of that one triggering it too even without infection, novavax or moderna are safer.
Honestly I'm kinda just hoping I can eat bread again u_u going gf is so gd expensive holy shit
Figured out a way to get perfect, angular, sharp corners when cutting vinyl. May also work on other materials.
Extend your paths so that the plotter isn't trying to turn a sharp corner with the blade, but is making straight lines that cut across each other.
You can only extend the paths into the unused / scrap / weeded area – you probably don't want tiny cuts made into the object / art / material you will be keeping. So this doesn't work for all corners, just 'exterior' angles.
Yes, this will mean almost completely, manually revising your art. But if you really want sharp corners, this is a way to get them.
Need some ofuda spell papers for your next cosplay? Why not try PSV sticker vinyl? You can make them with your own vinyl cutter or one from a library maker's space! Here's how I made Camilla's so you can too! #cosplay #tutorial
Ofuda appear in all sorts of cosplays, from traditional to more fantasy designs. While you can print some out, others like metallic designs don’t work in a printer. Or perhaps you don’t have a printer but you have a vinyl cutter (or have access to one at the library or a maker’s space). Well, good news. You can make ofuda with sticker vinyl!
Metallic gold designs on purple…
I tried out metallic HTV for this one, with mostly successful results; the grid pattern is down to an issue with the ironing board, but it looks pretty good in real life. And it'll catch light well on dark streets, so that's good!
Today I bought a guillotine-style paper cutter on FB Marketplace because I might be a little bit Autistic.
You see, I was telling MFH the other day that my brain has decided that Sirius XM Classic Rewind is the PROPER channel to be playing when we are in his car. That is the car drive noise. If we get in and the channel is set to "classic vinyl" or some shit, I'm like NOPE. WRONGE.
I got done with this mini rant and looked over at him and went. "...I'm Autistic, aren't I?" And because he is MFH (My Fkin Favorite Husband) he just smiled fondly and nodded a lot.
Honestly probably nobody who knows me and also anything about my maternal grandpa and my mom will be surprised by this but it turns out all the indicators for Autism and especially Girl Autism are basically symptoms of a super duper stressed out Autistic person. I'm told there's not a lot of data on Autistic people who were raised in loving, accommodating environments that validated them and allowed them to cultivate their existences to suit their needs...which is what I had. It hasn't been until this year that I've even begun to think about whether or not that sort of thing might run in my family, and it was due to a post on FB about mid-20th century men who lived...essentially just like my grandpa.
So anyway I'm printing a lot of PDF clothing patterns where you print them tiled on 8.5x11" paper and then tape them all together. I've been using scissors for trimming the margins of these, but it's inefficient and slow. Therefore, I need a paper cutter! Well, funny story, this paper cutter thing is the same deal as the radio. I have a very specific idea of what a paper cutter should feel like and the idea of using a lightweight shitty version is like, mildly physically repulsive. Like, yes, I could go to Joann or whatever and pick up a lightweight Fiskars rotary cutter thing and have it in my hands in less than an hour. But even the mental sensory experience of handling the flimsy plastic bullshit makes me fidget my hands because--ew. I want a heavy base that goes THONK on the table and a cast iron handle with a blade that goes SHHHHK as it drops and if I can't have that I'm not going to have a paper cutter. I will store it tipped on its side, blade at the top and clipped safely down, slid in between the china cabinet that houses my reenacting pottery and the front wall of the dining room.
And yeah I could go buy one of those new, but I actually also want one that's beat up and a little chipped and the corners are bashed in and it's probably spent its life in an office or an elementary school or a library. That part I can't actually explain, it's not a sensory need, but I want it that way and I can get it on FB Marketplace, so here we are.
