to prove I actually have been doing crafty things this summer - the Virus Shawl. Would have added another repeat or two, but I got so frustrated with the yarn (4 ply but not twisted) catching on my crochet hook, I stopped there. Still a good size to wear as a scarf. Love the shift from red to black, too!
Yarn is Sultan Shadow Black/Red from Hobbii.

Made for my goth niece! Pattern: Virus shawl. Made from an OOAK cake from my stash (from Etsy). She picked the pattern and yarn. It is massive, iirc the cake is 1000m. I'll probably never do a virus shawl again mainly bc my brain is frizzled and I am so bad at counting/repetition lol. The one on the starry background is closest to IRL

Pattern: Vírus Shawl from Hobbii
Yarn: YarnArt Flowers in 313 Summer

Today's work - crocheting on the virus shawl, that's been a travel project for years. In a local coffee shop, as my son is filling out paperwork at a nearby business that he's going to start work at.

this was actually one of the first patterns I learned; making it now when I'm 1000% more confident is really nice:)

Kind of a crappy picture but I wanted to show off this shawl I'm crocheting. There are more colors to come. The pattern is the virus shawl from hobbii on ravelry.

Oh yeah, also, crochet.
Been doing stuff!
Two pairs of dragonscale gloves:

The first one was more of a test with random stash yarn, the second one will one day match a wrap-around virus shawl in the same yarn.
These were a bit fiddly in the beginning, but once I got used to the pattern, they were an absolute blast. My main complaint is that they're not very practical because the finger side is so bulky (which I knew and ignored because they're also very cool), and they take a surprising amount of yarn.
I've also kind of accidentally gotten into lace crochet:
And now I'm working on the most annoying granny square top for my little sister:
about 400 yarn ends that'll have to be woven in for this thing. Fuck my life.
I also have a bunch of really amazing complicated shawl patterns on my list that are only being put off because of my goddamn yarn budget, I am working on some lace cuffs and collars that unfortunately don't photograph well yet because they're so bitty, and I'm generally still filled with extreme crafterly hubris.
(patterns, as per usual: Gloves, Lace, Top)

Do you have the crochet parasol pattern?? SO cool
Hi! Three of the parasols I've posted photos of on this blog came from patterns I found on ravelry!
- cherry blossamer parasol. Comes with very specific recommendations for the frame and yarn.
- Skelly-go-round. I used a sport weight gradient colored cotton yarn, the original pattern calls for thread. I got mine to fit a standard adult size 48" umbrella frame.
- Pineapple lace parasol. Recommends thread, and I never needed more than 1200 yds of thread. Also comes with extra instructions to alter the size of it to fit different frames.
The smaller pastel striped parasol I made was my own improvisation. It uses the virus stitch and granny stitch, which can be found as a triangular shawl pattern on many sites and YouTube channels. My original reference was the Fiber Spider YouTube channel, "virus meets granny" shawl tutorial. I just adjusted my math for an 8 cornered shape and went from there.
I'm also currently working on designing my own spiderweb themed parasol pattern and figuring out if the cherry blossamer parasol can be done as a 48" 8-point parasol if I just change the math and repeat some parts of the pattern.
This is the sort of thing I get up to when I'm not working on art or writing my rough draft haha.
#crochet#guess this is a crochet blog now#don't worry im still working on the posts i promised and i will get to the new asks in my inbox#alas i also have a new illustration project to tackle#luckily it is an easy project

I know, it's getting boring already, but I finished another virus shawl. But the pattern is just really addictive, and it looks so good with variegated yarn, so I just went on and on...and it won't be the last time I used the pattern. I'll probably have loads of these things in the end, so I kinda wish I could sell them. I don't think I really do it, but still.
Genuine question tho because I've no idea about the pricing of that kind of stuff: does anyone know whether I could ask people to pay me 5€ for one of these? Or would that be too much? I mean, the yarn cost more than that, so I wouldn't be exactly ripping anyone off, but idk... I mean, you could probably get some kind of scarf etc for less from a thrift store of something, so I'm not sure 🤔
#crocheting#crochet#textile crafts#yarn crafts#fiber crafts#crochetblr#virus shawl#the colours look a lot better on mobile & in reality tbh#idk why i finished so quickly but i did a few hours every day while watching tv shows and...yeah it just happened

FO: Virus Post Shawl
...in the shades of fall.
Look at me dusting off those poetry skills :D But I know my writing is not really why we are here.
This week I sent off a finished object for an exchange. The recipient has received it now, so I can officially share without spoiling the surprise!

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft 100% Acrylic - scraps, but I'm pretty certain we've got "Gold", "Pumpkin", and "Autumn Red" here.
Hook size: 5.5 mm
Pattern: Post Virus Shawl - Bag-O-Day Crochet
I love the colors selected - they are so bright and happy and they definitely remind me of the colors changing on the leaves of deciduous trees. Once the colors start to turn, I love driving aimlessly through the countryside to enjoy the shift. It's truly beautiful.

Virus shawls for my toddler

Crochet. Pattern is free and common lots of versions out there. Lion Brand yarn

I made these more for fun and for my kids. This pattern works better with smaller yarn and a smaller needle.

Working on the post virus shawl by bagoday while my daughter rides. I spun the yarn, and it's been waiting on the shelf to be used. Finally pulled it down for this. I have a love hate for this pattern so far. It's pretty, but fiddly.
