Vogue, Vogue ,Vogue... ....from the era when this title really meant something because these days even fashion students cannot care less about it. In regards to the aforementioned Pop Up in Croatia post Vogue titles played an important role in selecting designers from various countries and also providing coverage. Greek creative director Michalis Pandos (seen here in the picture with me) attended the opening party in Croatia. My two page coverage of the event was published in the Sep issue of Vogue Hellas which also happened to be their last under that name. On September 2011 Vogue covers
It is a truth universally acknowledged that September is like January in fashion. Dear Readers, Ten points to the reader that's able spot the two sources I've quoted in my opening line. Geekiness aside, September hails new beginnings in the world of fashion. This is why all internationally acclaimed publications, Vogue in particular, put so much effort into their September issues. September covers are the most coveted, the most discussed and, inevitably, the most criticised when they fail to meet high expectations.  We finally got a preview of American Vogue's September cover, which is undoubtedly one of the most awaited this year. Kate Moss, the 37-year-old model who wed Jamie Hince in July, has landed the magazine's cover, even though editor in chief Anna Wintour is known to prefer celebrities on her magazine's cover. In fact, it's the first time a model made the magazine's cover since 2004! Readers and chronically fashion-obsessed people like yours truly are also enjoying shots by legendary Mario Testino from Moss's wedding in the 758-page September issue. I think Kate looks entirely ethereal in this cover and that McQueen dress fits her like a glove. However, very regrettably, I just can't say that it's my absolute September cover this year. I am more intrigued by the shots from her wedding because I think she looks way better in them. Must be wedding glow or something like that. But I do like it, and I don't think that it will let any of us down. Or does it?

I'm not very fond of Vogue Japan's September 2011 cover. While Karolina Kurkova may be one of the most stunning ladies around, I think this cover has failed to do her justice. Many have commented on Kurkova's awkward pose and I admit that teacup pose is not exactly flattering. But even more than that, I really don't think the Armani dress she's wearing is suitable for a Vogue cover. If you look closely you can see that the face printed on that dress is bigger than Kurkova's, and that tends to shift the centre of focus on the dress and not on the model. All in all, I think it's an awkward cover. What a pity!

I am equally not impressed by British Vogue's September cover which features Freja Beha Erichsen. The shot by Mario Testino is obviously VERY GOOD, I mean who could ever doubt Testino's skills? But you know, it just doesn't feel like a September cover! When compared to the amazing spread of Erichsen inside the magazine, the cover looks like a random shot of a girl out partying. Neh, just not convinced.

Vogue Australia have done a great job with their September 2011 cover. Katie Fogarty just oozes confidence in this shot, and even though it reminds me of Katie Holmes cover for Vogue Spain's August 2011 issue, I just love it. This cover has been styled so well: I can't help but appreciate the ingenious contrast between the hat's / collar's sharp lines and the softness of Fogarty's face and make-up. There's also a very interesting element of shadows that I really like. Thumbs up!
Vogue Australia has a striking cover for their September issue
One of my absolute favourite Vogue covers this September comes all the way from Asia. I am in love with Vogue China's September cover, which also happens to be their 6th anniversary cover. The stunning shot of six Chinese models, namely Du Juan, Sui He, Fei Fei Sun, Liu Wen, Ming Xi and Shu Pei Qin, features an amazing collection of Gucci chiffon gowns. Words fail to describe the sheer (pun intended) beauty of those gowns and their floral accents. I think Vogue China's choice of six Chinese models is a very interesting move. Why? Well, because Vogue China does include Asian models in its features and spreads, but it's somewhat reluctant to let them grace its covers. That said, Chinese models have made the cover before, but Vogue China has always been seen as more of an  admirer of Western beauties rather than a promoter of its own home-grown beauties . Are we finally seeing a change?

Have you had the chance of admiring Vogue Portugal's September cover? It's beauty is overwhelming. Catarina de Anciães's photo of Auguste Abeliunaite looks beyond perfect. Every little detail adds so much to the overall shot. I just love how Auguste is working that deep maroon lipstick, which contrasts beautifully with her blue eyes and light blonde hair. I adore how her dainty face contrasts with that statement jewellery. It's all about contrasts, literally. Vogue Portugal deserves more credit than it receives because it has been doing an awesome job lately :)
All hail Vogue Portugal
I left my favourite one for the end. Ladies and gentlemen, the best September Vogue cover comes from the Mediterranean country of Greece. Damn girl! (excuse me, but I'm so excited about this cover) Sophie Holmes, the beauty on Vogue Hellas's cover, is pictured in a stunning red balloon dress by Lanvin which is very reminiscent of the sixties. The look is completed with a beehive, which obviously complements the sixties vibe to perfection. I just can't help but think that this might be a little tribute to Amy Winehouse. What do you think?
I love you Vogue Hellas
My university is offering a mini-course in Greek. I think I'm going to join that course. I just have to start learning Greek because I feel I'm losing so much from not reading Vogue Hellas. -B

Mouskouri vibes.... ...whilst flicking through old Vogue Greece ( Vogue Hellas) titles that I’ve worked for as a London correspondent between 2005-2012. Back then this was considered ‘bizarre’ ( ie why would anyone publish in the language they cannot speak?) but I am more than pleased that these days this very title fully employs seasoned British editors and writers such as Sarah Bailey. As for the content I don’t think that the written world of fashion can really survive on influencers and other reality stars of today. Quality, knowledge and experience will prevail just as much as the timeless style over the passing trends. Now, if I can only get hold of these Nana Mouskuri’s tribute glasses ( Chanel) and pretty much all the beauty signature items (Dior perfume, lipstick) she made her own just like the true (influencer) style icon would do...
