New Zealand North Island Adventure day 7: Turangi -> Rotorua -> Tauranga - It’s another big day! As a late starter, I would stroll around town centre and have brunch before I depart for real attractions. The Tunneller Statue seems to be the icon for Turangi. It was dead quiet when I checked out probably as the laziest guest even it was quite vibrant in the evening last night. I assumed all backpacker youngsters, families and retirees had headed to the Tongariro National Park which Turangi serves as the gateway for. I don’t have enough time to go deep but just visited Te Ponanga Saddle Lookout and Tokaanu Historic Wharf nearby. Highlight of the day is Wai-o-Taou Thernal Wonderland in Rotorua. Highlights of the highlight are Artist’s Palette, Champagne Pool, and Green Pool. There’re many boiling mix pools in the area. It was a pity that I didn’tsp enough research if the Tsupo Volcano area before my departure that I didn't allocate long enough stats here to enjoy the hot springs but it definitely worth a second in-depth experience in the next visit. I missed the famous Pohutu Geyser near Rotorya City as it closed early at 4PM :/ Have to become an early bird in extensive travels. Visited Hatupatu Scenic Pount with many Black-Billed Gulls, Sulphur Point, and Kuirau Park Mud Pools near the city before sunset and then drove to Tauranga to stay for the night. Finalmente chegamos em Rotorua para conhecer o Parque Thermal Wai-O-Tapu. Nos sentimos como se estivéssemos numa cratera de um vulcão, vários poços de lama e lagos de ácido fervendo e um cheiro insuportável de enxofre. Hoje eu vou compartilhar com vocês uma experiência incrível que eu tive na Nova Zelândia: visitar a cratera de um vulcão! Isso mesmo, eu tive a oportunidade de ver de perto o interior de uma das maravilhas da natureza, e vou contar tudo para vocês neste post. Waiotapu é uma área geotérmica ativa no extremo sul do Centro Vulcânico Okataina, ao norte da caldeira Reporoa, na Zona Vulcânica Taupo da Nova Zelândia. Fica a 27 quilômetros ao sul de Rotorua O começo A aventura começou com um voo de helicóptero até a ilha, que já foi uma experiência incrível por si só. Do alto, eu pude ver a fumaça branca que sai do vulcão, e a paisagem deslumbrante da ilha, que tem uma cor verde-esmeralda. Ao pousar na ilha, eu recebi um capacete e uma máscara de gás, que são essenciais para proteger da poeira e dos gases tóxicos que saem do vulcão. https://youtu.be/kr1JEzihQFs A caminhada pela cratera foi algo surreal. Eu me senti em outro planeta, cercada por rochas, cinzas, enxofre e vapor. O som do vulcão era como um rugido, e eu podia sentir o calor que vinha do solo. Em alguns pontos, eu vi pequenas poças de água fervente e lama borbulhante, que são chamadas de fumarolas. Em outros, eu vi crateras menores, que são chamadas de ventos. O ponto alto foi chegar à beira da cratera principal, onde eu pude ver um lago de ácido sulfúrico, que tem uma cor azul-turquesa. A visão era impressionante, mas também assustadora, pois eu sabia que aquele lago poderia entrar em erupção a qualquer momento. Thermal Wai-O-Tapu em maori Foi uma experiência única na vida, que eu nunca vou esquecer. Eu aprendi muito sobre vulcanologia, geologia e cultura maori, pois o vulcão é considerado sagrado pelos nativos. Também senti muita emoção e adrenalina ao estar tão perto de uma força da natureza tão poderosa e imprevisível. Waiotapu ist mit seinen 18 km^2 eins der grössten Geothermalgebiete in Neuseeland. In ihm befinden sich kollabierte Krater, heiße Quellen und durch Minerale gefärbte heiße und kalte Teiche. Ebenso gibt es dort Tümpel sowie Schlammteiche, aus denen Gase vulkanischen Ursprungs aufsteigen und an der Oberfläche als Schlammblase zerplatzen.

Die Farben des Champagner Pools sind einfach unbeschreiblich kontrastreich

East Coast North Island

From Papamoa we travelled east, though you can't go directly east, with our next destination being Napier. We had to go through both Rotorua and Taupo on our way so took the opportunity to visit my favourite sight - mud volcanoes at Waiotapu - not the best day being a little cloudy but the mud was still bubbling nicely. From Taupo we followed the SH5 which took us through yet another different landscape this time with heather and pine trees and more evidence of logging.

We stopped briefly at Waipunga Falls but the route was quite slow going so we continued on as quickly as possible to our destination for a few days Napier. We stayed slightly outside the main town in a suburb Ahuriri which was lovely with a beach view and some fab sunsets again.

Our first expedition from Napier was on a bit of a grey and dull day to Gisborne to see Captain Cooks statue. the weather did improve on route and we did a detour to Mahia peninsula on the way which did have some amazing beaches full of logs. The roadtrip was again slow but this time due to extensive areas of roadworks as this is the area which has been affected several times by storms and hurricanes and in places you could see how the road had sipped away.

By the time we got to Gisbourne it had dried up and we were able to walk along the prim to see both Cooks statue and that of "young Nick" the surgeons boy who was the first to spot land here from the mast of the Endeavour. We also went to the spot where Cook landed in Gisborne and on the way back we saw Young Nick headland.

It was a long day just for a visit to see a statue but it was an enjoyable drive up the coast despite the roadworks.

Aukland về tối với những mờ ảo của ánh đèn, không sáng choang nhưng vẫn đủ cho những dòng xe di chuyển trên những làn đường thẳng tắp. Cái lạnh chừng 10 độ C không thể can ngăn ai đó thò chân ra đường dạo chơi trong ngày đầu tiên đến. Đêm đầu ở khách sạn không mấy ngon giấc có thể do lạ giường hoặc chăng là vì chuyến bay dài hơn 10 tiếng làm cơ thể trở nên vật vờ, khó ngủ…

Hamilton là nơi mà vườn Maori truyền thống đầu tiên ra đời. Khu vườn trưng bày các dụng cụ, cách thức trồng trọt truyền thống của người Maori địa phương qua các thế hệ. Tại đây còn có bộ sưu tập Vườn Thiên Đường (Paradise Garden Collection) với những khu vườn đặc trưng có phong cách thiết kế riêng đại diện cho

Anh, Nhật, Ý, Mỹ, Ấn Độ, Ai Cập.

Waitomo - thành phố của những hang động đá vôi. Nơi đây cũng có thể gọi là thiên đường của những con đom đóm. Động đá vôi nổi tiếng thế giới Waitomo Glowworm với đủ các loại đom đóm tụ họp và phát sáng kỳ diệu khiến ta có cảm giác như đang đứng dưới bầu trời đầy sao. Anh chàng cao to đúng chất Maori hát tặng chúng tôi một bài hát về tình yêu bằng tiếng Maori, dù không hiểu ý nghĩa bài hát là gì nhưng có thể cảm nhận sự trìu mến, hiếu khách của một dân tộc New Zealand bản xứ. Đến đây mới biết đóm đóm không chỉ có loại biết bay (fire-fly) mà còn có glow-worm không biết bay nữa.

Rotorua - Thành phố Lưu Huỳnh. Xe vừa đến nơi đã cảm nhận được mùi trứng thối đặc trưng của nguyên tố hóa học có ký hiệu S. Khu du lịch địa nhiệt Waiotapu ở Rotorua đặc sắc bởi hồ champagne nổi tiếng với những gam màu kì dị và có hình tượng như ly sâm panh đang sủi bọt.

Buổi tối ở Rotorua thật mới lạ với bữa tối cùng người Maori tại làng Tamaki Maori. Món ăn nấu bằng phương pháp hangi khá ngon và lạ miệng. Trên đường về lại khách sạn, anh chàng tài xế người Maori vui tính cứ liên tục hát hò làm cả đoàn náo nhiệt, vui tươi.

Sáng hôm sau đi xem xén lông cừu ở Agrodome, du khách hiếu kỳ có thể tự tay vắt sữa bò, cho cừu con uống sữa. Tham quan 1 vòng nông trại Agrodome bằng xe máy kéo cũng là một trải nghiệm thú vị, xung quanh là bạt ngàn đồi cỏ xanh ngát, lấm tấm những chấm trắng hình cừu làm liên tưởng đến khuôn mặt thiếu nữ xanh mịn màng nhưng lấm tấm vài hạt mụn cám. Vườn kiwi trĩu quả đến phát thèm nhưng không nỡ hái vì sợ làm tan đi vẻ đáng yêu của thiên nhiên nơi đây. Nông trại không chỉ có cừu mà còn có bò, ngựa và cả con Alpaca vô cùng kỳ lạ.

Matamata vô cùng xinh đẹp với ngôi làng Người Lùn Hobbition, ngôi làng được xây dựng để phục vụ làm phim trường cho tác phẩm điện ảnh nổi tiếng Lord of the Rings (Chúa tể những chiếc nhẫn). Đạo diễn Jackson đã muốn mọi thứ phải hoàn hảo đến mức không ngần ngại thay đổi cả các gốc cổ thụ tại đây bằng những giống cây đúng chất Anh. Trùng trùng điệp điệp đồi cỏ được điểm xuyết bởi những đàn cừu lông trắng nhởn nhơ gặm cỏ, e thẹn nhìn những vị khách lạ đến thăm.

Ô tô đưa chúng tôi trở lại Aukland để bắt chuyến bay sớm về Saigon, tự nhủ sẽ không ngủ gục trên xe, muốn ngắm nhìn mãi một màu xanh của đồng cỏ, những dãy hàng rào xinh đẹp chạy dài như những cảnh đẹp trong phim Ngôi Nhà Nhỏ Trên Thảo Nguyên.

Tạm biệt những đồng xanh mơn man, tạm biệt những đàn cừu, đàn bò nhởn nhơ gặm cỏ. Cố gắng tận hưởng những phút giây thật sự thay vì sống ảo, vài bức ảnh hiếm hoi điểm xuyết cho kỷ niệm một chuyến đi vô cùng thú vị ở một đất nước rất đỗi bình yên này.
