Taqbir must be great. My physical release snobbishness usually makes me not want to buy a 4th pressing. I want the first...maybe the 2nd. But I went ahead and bought this. This has two things going for it: (1) It has the motorik guitar and drum punk sound that I love (see recent post for Waldo Faldo which also mentioned Ausmuteants) and (2) It's punk from a country I don't associate with punk.

Taqbir is a Tangier, Morocco band that bring the intensity and sneering attitude I want in my punk. I get that without sacrificing the melody. "Victory Belongs To Those Who Fight For A Right Cause" is an amazing title to a fantastic 4-song 7" punk explosion. I will also readily admit that I was drawn to music described as "four short vomits of anti-religious sentiment made music. Sang in Moroccan Arabic Taqbir’s lyrics are irreverent, careless outburst of anger towards an extremely patriarchal oppressive place."

Not at all surprising that this is released by London label La Vida Es Un Mus.

Waldo Faldo is the most underrated himbo there is

Several years ago, I went through a punk phase. I mean a specific kind of almost "math punk". Short, choppy, angular songs in the mold of Devo. The Coneheads, Ausmuteants, and Isotope Soap are all examples from posts that serve as examples.

Madrid, Spain's Waldo Faldo fit nicely into this genre. These songs are short and catchy. When I saw the cover art, I kind of assumed this was a band from the 1980s and some of the unsold 7"s were being put up on Bandcamp. But no, Waldo Faldo are a current band. "Nueva Especie Humana" is their 2nd 7" single. It looks like it is self-released.

I just realized that Waldo and Maxine had no build up. I mean they don’t really interact prior to them dating there was no inkling of them liking each other. Eddie never even mentions “Ooh why don’t you go out with Maxine��� Waldo never once hints at liking Maxine. It’s just Eddie Laura and Steve playing match maker over the phone because Maxine broke up with her boyfriend. I don’t even think they had any scenes building chemistry. They are cute together but it’s like the writers just slapped them together and said “Let’s see who we can make a couple”
