This is a vintage cover from some music known as the "Wampus Cat Rag". It and other images are available in my shop on magnets, posters, etc. https://mistysworldboutique.etsy.com ⁣ Well I know that "Rag" refers to ragtime music, which originated in America and was popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s.🎵🎶 But I had never heard of a "Wampus Cat" before, so I looked it up. ⁣📖 ⁣ My first source was that fountain of indisputable knowledge, Wikipedia, which said that, according to American Dialect Society, a wampus cat was "A creature heard whining about camps at night".😫 This sounds like someone who has answered the call of nature in a campground, and can't find his way back to the tent in the darkness. ⁣ ⁣ Other descriptions of the wampus cat describe it as an amphibious panther or a green-eyed cat with occult powers. 🔮 Going by the latter definition, they're probably the ones you find at Renaissance Faires who, for a fee, will tell you that you have a secret admirer, and that you'll take a long trip. ⁣ ⁣ The Cherokee Native American tribes originated in Appalachia, and they have many legends of strange creatures that lurk in the thick forests of the Eastern USA.🌳🌲 One such story tells of a warrior who went out to confront a demon called the Ewah, which was attacking his village. He returned, having lost his mind.🤪 My guess is that he found a moonshine still in the mountains, or maybe a kid playing a banjo at a gas station.🥃🪕 But the legend says he'd found the Ewah.⁣🙀 ⁣ His wife, Running Deer, went out for revenge. Donning a magical wildcat mask, she chased the Ewah away and assumed the responsibility of keeping evil out of the forests. Some say that the wampus cat is actually the spirit of Running Deer.⁣ ⁣ Whatever the wampus cat is, it's still popular, being used as a mascot for a number of schools in the Southern USA.🏈 And according to J.K. Rowling, Wampus is the name of one of the Houses at the American School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Ilvermorny.🪄 Not sure if the students dance the Wampus Cat Rag at that House.⁣💃🏼🕺

@tannar_moix ・ Today is a sad day, yesterday they canceled school for the rest of the year. So technically I am no longer a Wampus Cat. I was so ready for what this track season had in store, and had been anticipating it all year. But unfortunately we only had 1 meet, and the season got cut short. Thank you to all the coaches that made my high school pole vault career the best it could ever be, and thank you to the coaches at Conway for pushing me to be the best athlete I could be. I will miss the bus rides we had to our meets where we would either sleep or blast music. I’ve never met a better family than the guys I met throughout my track season, and we have made a lifelong friendship I will always cherish. We have made so many memories, winning awards and pushing ourselves to be the best we can be.
