Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, Caspar David Friedrich.
Rating: NOT CUTE.
To many uneducated people, this is the Romantic "ideal"—but this early 19th century man is dangerously stressed, seeking out a novel perspective because he hasn't been provided with adequate enrichment!
Although he has a walking stick (good), this isn't the proper environment for walking. Instead of letting your early 19th century man wander all the way to the precipice of a cliff (in the fog, no less), try giving him some novels from the circulating library, and appropriate bijouterie!

Much better! The gloves protect his hands (unclear if the "wanderer" has any), and the quizzing glass provides hours of unique visual stimulation. You can see from the neat coiffure that he's well cared for.

I just wanted to deliver winter clothes and ended up lost in the mountains, recreating "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog". I give it 10/10.

“Wanderer Above the Sea of Stars”
A commission challenge from Dr. Phil (probably not the one you’re thinking of) to reinterpret Caspar David Friedrich’s incredible, beautiful painting “Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog” but in space. I wanted to evoke the same feelings he did without just copying the brush strokes - what do you think, did I succeed?

WANDERER ABOVE THE SEA OF FOG (1818) by CASPAR DAVID FRIEDRICH
In this painting, a nobleman climbs a rocky crag and looks out over the landscape, his back turned to the viewer. In front of him, out of the swirling clouds of mist, rise high pinnacles of rock, and on the horizon, a majestic peak to the left, and a rock formation to the right.
Many of the images in FRIEDRICH’S landscapes show a lone figure in a vast landscape that mimics a Byronic hero looking down on and dominating the scenery.
While in the run-up to this painting, FRIEDRICH had been sketching in the mountains of SAXONY and BOHEMIA, the landscape is, in essence, an imaginary of a collection of specific views. Romantic painters were obsessed with the idea of the individual within the natural world.
Here, the individual wanderer atop a precipice contemplating the world before him seems to suggest mastery over the landscape, but at the same time, the figure seems small and insignificant compared the sublime vista of mountains and sky that stretch out before him.
FRIEDRICH’S greatest strength was his ability to portray nature in all its infinite wholeness and ferocity. When you think about it, the world in its mist remains unknowable.
