Let me pose a thought experiment to you.

You are a powerful reality-warper who has the ability to rearrange matter to suit your needs, change living people from one form to another, turn water into wine and wine into water, and yourself into whatever you need. You don't interact directly with the world at large, but what you do is close enough to interacting with it that you can speak to others, and they can speak to you. You can, essentially, do anything you want - with one condition. You can only do to someone what they've expressly asked you for, a limitation you haven't always had but are now powerfully bound by.

You want Ultimate Power™.

There are only a few ways to get it, because using magic to conjure your way into power is frowned upon for political expedience in the broader galaxy, and there are more than enough people hitting above your weight class that you can't just waltz in, use some illusion to make it seem like everyone has to agree with your whims, and walk out with Ultimate Power™. You'll get thrown into the Space Hague in like, five minutes, if someone doesn't outright kill you for the insolence. Not everyone can shake it off, but enough people can, when you're getting into the realms of Ultimate Power™.

Similar laws govern the legality of using your powers to rig elections and semi-legally get you involved in the political arenas that get you involved in Near-Ultimate Power (which is, natch, good enough for you). You can't do that either.

If you really want Ultimate Power™, you have to work with a coalition, which is true of basically everyone after Ultimate Power™. This isn't the end of the world. Having a coalition working for Mutual Ultimate Powers™ means that you guys can all share in the spoils, once you have them. The problem is still having them. Even working together, it's still difficult to successfully grab and hold power, isn't it?

There are very few ways to take power, and doing it legitimately is a sucker's game. The only accessible pathway to true power is through building a majority party that will acquiesce to your demands within a pre-existing intergalactic governing body of planetary and planet-system governments (we'll call it the Inter-Galactic Senate, ISG for short; this is backstage so no names are set in stone). Representatives in the ISG get their votes for each member state they represesnt. You want to gain position in the ISG by being "elected" as a representative. You can be the representative for multiple planets or planetary systems, but pretty much every member so far is already spoken for.

The obvious move is to find a non-member planet with aliens on it and convince them to elect you their ISG representative. Or, you know, "convince", and, you know, "elect". Heh heh. Whatever gets you your Ultimate Power™.

And naturally - the more the merrier. Every planet you can pull under your sway gets you a little closer to the goal.

Any overt use of your magic to force your way into power will still get you tossed into the Space Hague.

You have essentially-unlimited interpersonal resources, including strings to pull for mercenaries, aid, and organizations. You have all the time in the world.

There are only two conditions.

You cannot appear "evil" (no force-backed dictatorships beating votes in favor out of people)

These people must not only back you at exactly the right moment, but every other time they're called upon, they must always stay in support of you.

An extremely rambly post about what I personally think is going on with The Rot in Watcher

Before I start, I'd like to correct myself on something, in a previous post, I mentioned that I believed Watcher was originally from either the Vanilla or Downpourverse before being thrown into the Watcherverse after the first Spinning Top encounter, I now believe that this isn't the case as, if I remember correctly, it's possible to encounter rot even before or during the first encounter, at least according to my friend, who found rot in Farm Arrays during the first encounter.

Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to do another rambly thought type post on what I believe the Watcherverse has going on, specifically, why there's Rot everywhere, I'll put a disclaimer that theorycrafting is Not my strong suite, so if I'm misinterpreting anything or getting any information wrong, I'm so sorry and feel free to correct me, I'll do my best to work with the information I currently have, I'll also like to give a warning that this... Might be structured a bit weirdly or be very disjointed as well, apologies, I'm not that good at structuring posts.

I believe The Rot is a cosmic/spiritual type force, similar to how The Void Sea is, at least to some extent, rather than Just An Illness, possibly even being an antithesis to the Void, it's corruption, it's... alive, but only in the most basic definition of the word, with only the most basic drives, to consume and spread.

As for why there's so much rot in Watcher's campaign, I believe Watcherverse is a sort of 'Nexus Point' when it comes to Rot, where all instances of Rot across all reflections/strands (I believe that's the term for alternate universes/timelines in Rain World?, according to dialogue from Spinning Top, please correct me if I'm wrong) meet, I imagine this 'meeting' to mainly be in the form of both The Nexus Rot (what I'll be calling the Rot we see in Watcher's campaign) and Prince, Prince does say something about how the imperative that was in 'them' remains in them, then again, there's a fair chance they could be talking about just the iterators who had contracted the rot in Watcherverse specifically, but I think it's both possible and interesting if they meant all instances of Rot being contracted throughout all strands.

Alongside that, I believe the origin point/"main residence" of The Nexus Rot in The Watcherverse is Outer Rim as well, before being carried over by rifts created by Spinning Top (and later, Watcher)

i hate martyns vtuber lore he just eggs on all the people obsessed with evo being part of the life series and those people are the scourge of life series fans. everything has to be fucking watcher lore instead of just weird death games and pearl and bigb don't exist as their own characters, just part of evo shit. it's all fanon nonsense and it's so frustrating to want to find life series content without it being about this six year old smp that most other ccs have said is completely unrelated/have not ever referenced.
