#we need more positive aroallo rep

Usually I do a focus on positivity for different labels, but do want to do a quick shoutout for aroallos because I see so little rep and a lot of stigma. While sex aversion, esp in a community that shares a lot of members/experiences w/asexual people, is common, I do think there should be discussions around how we frame sexuality and some expressions of love in general. I see a lot of aroallos, even people close to me, express sentiments around feeling less-than or shallow for what attraction they have, and I think it's sourced from the same things that oppress all of us as a community.

It's a real shame when I can see that discrimination against aroallos comes from the love hierarchy placed on other aro labels, where some types of love [or just love in general] are placed on tiers, kinda like the hierarchy of needs, pyramid style. What that order is varies person to person, but I see sexuality often left on the bottom, as if it's fundamentally less important or more shallow, which is doubly hurtful when that's your major attraction.

Properly dismantling love focus and creating relationship anarchy doesn't JUST mean decentering love as necessary, it ALSO means dismantling the structures that frame certain types of love as dirtier or less-than. It goes both ways, from putting it on a pedestal to tearing it down, and I think if we're going to focus so much on the topic of deconstructing these ideals, aroallo perspective should be included.

To all aroallos, your attraction is your attraction. It's easier said than done to accept it, especially if people around you don't, but I hope this month is peaceful and welcoming to you. It's a struggle for everyone, but that doesn't mean your personal struggles are less than anyone else's in the community, nor does it mean you're less deserving of speaking your mind on it.

This is a gimmick account run by @aromantichc / @twobruhsinahottub aimed to raise awareness and positivity around aroallo people and characters!

Most aromantic representation is aroace, and while aroaces are great, sometimes we need rep just for the aros who are not ace!

I run @aromantichc for all arospec headcanons, so if you have a character you want to submit that happens to be ace as well, send them over there!

On this account I will post once (or more 👀) a day and I will post a character (or real person / celeb who has come out as aroallo) who is either canon aroallo, or who you headcanon to be aroallo. You can submit requests through the ask box.

The format for submissions/requests is as follows:

Full Name (media), Aroallo AND/OR specific arospec label + allosexual, headcanon OR canon [1-2 images if possible]

Optional addition to requests: any other headcanons (max 10) such as pronouns, sexualities, genders, tertiary attractions, disabilities/neurodivergence, ships, literally any random headcanon

I think it's important to remember that more representation for another marginalized group is not necessarily taking representation away from others, nor should we begrudge people for enjoying what little representation or positive representation they have.

for example, I'm aroallo. We have virtually zero representation, if that, and that's a problem. I'd really like to see more aro characters who are not asexual, to help stop the idea that being aromanticism is just an add-on to asexuality. Sometimes, I find myself getting annoyed or disappointed when a character is revealed to be aromantic and asexual, because I hardly ever see aromantic characters who aren't asexual.

Does that mean those characters shouldn't be aroace or that it's bad that they are? No! Aroaces also need more rep! More aroace rep is a good thing! That doesn't mean my feelings are bad either. But I shouldn't be angry with aroaces for enjoying the little rep they have, as if that character's existence is responsible for aromantic erasure. I deserve more alloaro characters and they deserve more aroace characters.

It's okay to feel disappointed that a character you relate to is confirmed to be a different identity. Your desire for more representation isn't a bad thing, it's justified. But more representation for other people also isn't a bad thing, and other queer people are not the enemy. Our representation in media does not need to come at the cost of other's rep; it's not like there's a limited amount of Token Character Points that we have to fight over. We all deserve better in media, and a win for one of us is not a loss for the others.
