Saint Raphael the Archangel Talon Abraxas St. Raphael is one of the seven Archangels who stand before the throne of God. He is known as the healer. Raphael’s name, in fact, means ‘God’s Healing’. St. Raphael is helpful in bringing healing to body and soul, charity and deliverance. He is powerful and heals all forms of maladies in both humans and animals.
Most of our knowledge of the Archangel Raphael comes to us from the Book of Tobias. Because of his mission as a wonderful healer and the fellow traveller, guide and counsellor of young Tobias, St. Raphael is invoked for journeys and at any critical moment in life. Tradition also holds that Raphael is the angel that stirred the waters at the healing sheep pool in Bethesda.
Saint Raphael, the healer is recorded as having helped Tobias make balms and ointments from fish to cure Tobit’s (Tobias’s father) blindness. The Archangel Raphael healed Abraham of the pain of circumcision, an operation the patriarch had avoided until late in his life. He also cured the disjointed thigh Jacob suffered while wrestling with the angel.
Saint Raphael is also called the Angel of Science and Knowledge. He is often referred to as ‘Regent’ or ‘Angel of the Sun’. Because of his bright countenance, his sanguine and companionable treatment of Tobias, St. Raphael is considered the most sociable of the archangels; it is imagined that he has the best sense of humor and the happiest disposition. It is said that Raphael delights in bringing health and happiness everywhere he goes. Prayers for St. Raphael’s Intercession Saint Raphael Prayer Blessed Saint Raphael, Archangel, We beseech thee to help us in all our needs and trials of this life, as thou, through the power of God, didst restore sight and give guidance to young Tobit. We humbly seek thine aid and intercession, that our souls may be healed, our bodies protected from all ills, and that through divine grace we may be made fit to dwell in the eternal Glory of God in heaven. Amen.
St. Raphael Prayer for Healing Glorious Archangel St. Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, you are illustrious for your gifts of wisdom and grace. You are a guide of those who journey by land or sea or air, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners. I beg you, assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as once you helped the young Tobias on his travels. Because you are the “medicine of God” I humbly pray you to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body. I especially ask of you the favor (here mention your special intention), and the great grace of purity to prepare me to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer to Saint Raphael Before a Trip Dear St. Raphael, your lovely name means “God heals.” The Lord sent you to young Tobias to guide him throughout a long journey. Upon his return you taught him how to cure his father’s blindness. How natural, therefore, for Christians to pray for your powerful help for safe travel and a happy return. This is what we ask for ourselves as well as for all who are far from home. Amen.
Prayer for Protection From All Evil Most Holy Mother, Queen of the Angels and Archangels, send me your Champion, the Archangel Saint Raphael, let him heal me of all my spiritual and physical ailments in JESUS’ HOLY NAME. May he protect me from satan and all the evil spirits. Saint Raphael be my guide and protector on my journey through life. O’ glorious Saint Raphael the Archangel, herald of blessings, pray for us! Amen.

Prayer of Someone in Trouble
O God, our help and assistance, who art just and merciful, and who hearest the supplications of Thy people, look down upon me, a miserable sinner; have mercy upon me, and deliver me from this trouble that besets me, for which, I know, I am deservedly suffering.
I acknowledge and believe, O Lord, that all trials of this life are given by Thee for our chastisement when we drift away from Thee and disobey Thy commandments.
Deal not with me after my sins, but according to Thy bountiful mercies, for I am the work of Thy hands, and Thou knowest my weakness.
Grant me, I beseech Thee, Thy divine helping grace, and endow me with patience and strength to endure my tribulations with complete submission to Thy will.
Thou knowest my misery and suffering, and to Thee, my only hope and refuge, I flee for relief and comfort, trusting to Thine infinite love and compassion that, in due time, when Thou knowest best, Thou wilt deliver me from this trouble and turn my distress into comfort, when I shall rejoice in Thy mercy and exalt and praise Thy holy name, O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.
Amen.

On the crucifix
O Lord, in order to honor St. Joseph as he deserves, Thou hast taken him body and soul to Heaven to Crown him with glory, thus signifying to the world, both visible and invisible, that Thou hast made Joseph Thy foster-father, the supreme steward of all Thy possessions.
Large beads
After saying the above prayer, skip to the large bead and say the following prayer, which will be said on each of the large beads.
We beseech Thee, O Lord, that we may find aid in the merits of the Spouse of Thy Most Holy Mother, so that what we cannot obtain by ourselves may be given us through his intercession, who livest and reignest with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
Small beads
For each decade of small beads, it is customary to meditate on events in the life of Joseph, similar to what the Oblates of St. Joseph list on their website.
Betrothal to Mary (Mt 1:18).
Annunciation to Joseph (Mt 1:19-21).
Birth and Naming of Jesus (Mt 1:22-25).
Flight into Egypt (Mt 2:13-15).
Hidden Life at Nazareth (Mt 2:23; Lk 2:51-52).
Other mysteries that can be substituted for these mysteries are the “Finding of Jesus in the Temple,” the “Death of St. Joseph” and the “Coronation of St. Joseph in Heaven.”
On each small bead the following prayer is recited.
Hail Joseph, Son of David, thou whose holiness surpasses that of all Angels and Saints, blessed art thou amongst men, thou who wert chosen to be the Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary of whom was born Jesus. Glorious Saint Joseph, now reigning body and soul in Heaven, protector of the Universal Church, pray for us poor sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Similar to the typical Rosary, each decade is completed with a “Glory Be.”

hi I was just wondering if u can mention a few of ur other favorite prayers? I need a few more in my arsenal !
my favourite repository for prayers is the anglican book of common prayer! you should be able to find it online, or there’s an app with the daily offices. i like to pray the evening prayer collect before bed:
lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, o lord; and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only son, our saviour jesus christ. amen.
compline and the prayers for families also have some very sweet ones:
keep us as the apple of an eye; hide us under the shadow of thy wings.
preserve us, o lord, waking, and guard us sleeping, that awake we may walk with christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.
general prayer for those in anxiety (i usually change “their” to “our” etc):
almighty god, who art afflicted in the afflictions of thy people: regard with thy tender compassion those in anxiety and distress; bear their sorrows and their cares; supply all their manifold needs; and help both them and us to put our whole trust and confidence in thee; through jesus christ our lord.
prayer for the departed (the first part is from the old latin, second part is local to my home church):
rest eternal grant unto them, o lord, and may light perpetual shine upon them. may the divine assistance remain with us always, and with our absent brethren.
sarah bessey’s a rhythm of prayer has breath prayers and a good one for righteous anger. i also use the jesus prayer as a breath prayer:
(inhale) lord jesus christ, son of god, (exhale) have mercy upon me, a sinner
i LOVE the angelus but can never find the translation i like on prayer cards >_<
common prayer: a liturgy for ordinary radicals by shane claiborne and jonathan wilson hartgrove has a lovely office as well.
#screams into the void#christianity#rustbeltbabey#learning how to use the prayer book is the best skill. you can find all manner of lovely collects and prayers for any situation#unfortunately in the old bcp there are some. ecumenically questionable prayers but you just skip them

I'd like to ask for prayers about my job, please -- I've been trying to get disability accommodations for months and I'm so tired, and I know job hunting while working will be just as exhausting as trying to wrangle doctors and all... I just want my energy back
I'm so sorry to hear that you're having a hard time getting the disability accommodations you need. If you haven't already, it might be worth seeing if you can get a charity / support organisation to become involved in helping you access disability accommodations. Having someone step in and help you with the work should hopefully alleviate a lot of your burden.
I have attached some prayers under the readmore that you might find comforting.
Prayers to Saint Jude
Most Holy Apostle St. Jude Thaddeus, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of the enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many, but the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases and of things despaired of. Pray for me who am so needy; make use, I implore you of that particular privilege accorded to you to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings particularly (here mention your petition) and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O blessed Jude to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.
---
Most holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, I place myself into your hands at this difficult time. Help me to know that I am not alone. Please pray for me, asking God to send me comfort for my sorrows, bravery for my fears, and healing for my suffering. Ask our loving God to strengthen my faith and give me the courage to accept His Will for my life. Thank you, St. Jude, for the hope you offer to all who believe in you. Amen.
--
O Holy St. Jude, Apostle and Martyr, great in virtue and rich in miracles, near kinsman of Jesus Christ, faithful intercessor of all who invoke your special patronage in time of need, to you I have recourse from the depth of my heart and humbly beg to whom God has given such great power to come to my assistance. Help me in my present and urgent petition. In return, I promise to make your name known and cause you to be invoked. St. Jude pray for us all who invoke your aid. Amen.
Prayer for problems at work
Dear Lord, I confess the burden I carry at work, it feels too heavy, too cumbersome to lift, to carry daily. Please come and give me freedom from this weight, change the circumstances of this situation, free my heart and mind from the anxiety it causes. Give me wisdom to know how to resolve, manage or walk away from this worry. I come to you, my Lord, my Saviour, my comforter and my friend. I know you are with me. I am not alone, I need not fear.

Amen.
Prayer for Protection
O Lord, Thou who steadied the hand of Peter as he began to sink on the stormy sea, if Thou are with me, no one is against me.
Grant to me the shield of faith and the mighty armor of the Holy Spirit to protect me and guide me to do Thy will.
The future I put into Thy hands, O Lord, and I follow Thee to a life in Christ. Amen
Prayers for Oneself in Time of Need
Almighty God, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, come to my help and deliver me from this difficulty that besets me. I believe Lord, that all trials of life are under Your care and that all things work for the good of those who love You. Take away from me fear, anxiety and distress. Help me to face and endure my difficulty with faith, courage and wisdom.
Grant that this trial may bring me closer to You for You are my rock and refuge, my comfort and hope, my delight and joy. I trust in Your love and compassion. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
O God, our help in time of need, Who are just and merciful, and Who inclines to the supplications of His people. Look down upon me and have mercy on me and deliver me from the trouble that now besets me. Deal with us not according to our iniquities, but according to Your manifold mercies, for we are the works of Your hands, and You know our weaknesses. I pray to you to grant me Your divine helping grace, and endow me with patience and strength to endure my hardships with complete submission to Your Will. Only You know our misery and sufferings, and to You, our only hope and refuge, I flee for relief and comfort, trusting in Your infinite love and compassion, that in due time, when You know best, You will deliver me from this trouble, and turn my distress into comfort. We then shall rejoice in Your mercy, and exalt and praise Your Holy Name, O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, both now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen

John Gossner's Treasury
Devotional for April 6th
God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. - 2 Corinthians 5:19-21
God so loved the world, the sinful, faithless, deeply fallen and ungrateful world, that He sacrificed for it His innocent, holy and righteous Son, as if the great and infamous sinner were dearer to Him than His most beloved Son. He who today sees the Son of God dying upon the cross for all sinners, slain for the dead, and does not learn to read the Holy Scriptures inviting all men to the great Supper, beseeching them, ’’Be ye reconciled to God! " he who does not learn to read this upon the cross, and does not here learn to understand and believe, will never learn. For that which even Moses realized and concerning which he said, ’ Truly the Lord loves the people," is here written in letters of flame; on the cross it is preached as loudly, intelligibly, and effectually as possible. Oh, may you all draw near to the cross of Christ on Golgotha! May you consider Him in the spirit, until that fulness of love by which God loved us in the death of His Son, shall have penetrated your heart, spirit and soul, marrow and bones, and your whole being; and you from your whole soul may say, ’We love Him because He loved us first. " Here words only are of no avail. You yourself must go to Golgotha; you must see the Son of love bleed upon the cross for you; you must tarry with Him, your eyes intently fixed upon Him. His blood, His death, His wounds, the bowing of His head, shall speak to you. Pay close attention, and let everything else in you keep silence.
O sacred Head, now wounded, With grief and shame bowed down.
Now scornfully surrounded With thorns Thy only crown!
O sacred Head, what glory.
What bliss, till now, was Thine!
Yet, though despised and gory; I joy to call Thee mine.

7 Days Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory
Preparatory Prayer
My Jesus, by the sorrow You suffered in Your agony in the Garden, in Your scourging and crowing with thorns, in Your journey to Calvary, in Your crucifixion and death, have mercy on the souls in purgatory, and especially on those that are most forsaken; deliver them from the torments they endure; call them and admit them to Your most sweet embrace in paradise, where You live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Our Father
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Eternal Rest
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
Concluding Prayer
Merciful Father, hear our prayers and console us. As we renew our faith in Your Son, whom You raised from the dead, strengthen our hope that all our departed brothers and sisters will share in His resurrection, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Sunday
O Lord God omnipotent, I beseech You by the Precious Blood, which Your divine Son Jesus shed in the Garden, deliver the souls in purgatory, and especially that one which is the most forsaken of all, and bring it into Your glory, where it may praise and bless You for ever. Amen.
Monday
O Lord God omnipotent, I beseech You by the Precious Blood, which Your divine Son Jesus shed in His cruel scourging, deliver the souls in purgatory, and among them all, especially that soul which is nearest to its entrance into Your glory, that it may soon begin to praise You and bless You for ever. Amen.
Tuesday
O Lord God omnipotent, I beseech You by the Precious Blood, which Your divine Son Jesus shed in His bitter crowning with thorns, deliver the souls in purgatory, and among them all, particularly that soul which is in the greatest need of our prayers, in order that it may not long be delayed in praising You and Your glory and blessing You for ever. Amen.
Wednesday
O Lord God omnipotent, I beseech You by the Precious Blood, which Your divine Son Jesus shed in the streets of Jerusalem while He carried on His sacred shoulders the heavy burden of the Cross, deliver the souls in purgatory and especially that one which is the richest in merits in Your sight, so that, having soon attained the high price in glory to which it is destined, it may praise You triumphantly and bless You forever. Amen.
Thursday
O Lord God omnipotent, I beseech You by the Precious Body and Blood, Your divine Son Jesus, which He Himself on the night before His Passion gave as meat and drink to His beloved Apostles and bequeathed to His Holy Church to be the perpetual Sacrifice and life-giving nourishment of His faithful people, deliver the souls in purgatory, but most of all, that soul which was most devoted to this Mystery of infinite love, in order that it may praise You therefore, together with Your divine Son and the Holy Spirit in Your glory for ever. Amen.
Friday
O Lord God omnipotent, I beseech You by the Precious Blood, which Jesus Your divine Son did shed this day upon the tree of the Cross, especially from His sacred Hands and Feet, deliver the souls in purgatory, and particularly that soul for whom I am most bound to pray, in order that I may not be the cause which hinders You from admitting it quickly to the possession of Your glory where it may praise You and bless You for evermore. Amen.
Saturday
O Lord God omnipotent, I beseech You by the Precious Blood, which gushed forth from the sacred Side of Your divine Son Jesus in the presence and to the great sorrow of His most holy Mother, deliver the souls in purgatory and among them all especially that soul which has been most devout to this noble Lady, that it may come quickly into Your glory, there to praise You in her, and her in You through all ages. Amen.

Hello! Is having evil intrusive thoughts sinful? There are time when these get so horrible as if they’re coming for me myself; it presents itself like “I [insert blasphemous action]…to [insert bad spirit]”. I immediately renounce them in the most holy name of Jesus and Mary every time but am troubled. May I ask for advice if you have and prayers if you can for me?
Hello, anon! Since you actively reject and renounce the intrusive thoughts whenever they pop up, they’re definitely not a sin. I’ve struggled with this same issue, especially when praying, and what I’ve found to work well for me is the following:
Use every single intrusive thought as an opportunity to offer up the pain that comes with it for Our Blessed Mother’s intentions, for the poor souls in purgatory, and for the conversion of sinners.
Ask Our Blessed Mother to shield you beneath her loving mantle.
Ask Our Lord to guide your heart and mind and to shield you from the evil one.
I like to pray this twice a day (with my morning and evening prayers) :
August Queen of Heaven!
Sovereign Mistress of the angels!
Thou who from the beginning
hast received from God
the power and mission to crush the head of Satan,
we humbly beseech thee
to send thy holy Legions,
that, under thy command
and by thy power,
they may pursue the evil spirits,
encounter them on every side,
resist their bold attacks
and drive them hence into the abyss of eternal woe.
Who is like God?
Oh good and tender Mother,
you will always be our love and our hope.
Oh divine Mother, send the Holy Angels and Archangels to defend me
and to keep the cruel enemy far from me.
Holy Angels and Archangels defend us, protect us. Amen.
Don’t be discouraged, anon; do your best not to fall into scrupulosity. See this as a wonderful opportunity to suffer for love of God, trust that God is with you always and understands the position of your heart, and do not dwell on the intrusive thoughts whenever they pop up. The more you practice this kind of response to the intrusive thoughts, the easier it will be to ignore them completely. I’ll be praying for you! God bless ❤️

O Allah, You hear my speech and behold my situation. You know my secret and open matters. None of my affairs is concealed from You. And I am the miserable, needy, suppliant, succour-seeking, fearful and anxious person who confuses his sins. I beg of You--- the begging of the destitute. I implore You--- the imploring of an abased sinner. And I make du ā to You --- the du ā of the fearful afflicted person, whose neck is bowed down before You, whose eyes pour out tears before You, whose body is humbled before You, and whose nose cleaves to the ground for You. O Allah, do not make me frustrated in my supplication to You. And be Compassionate and Merciful to me. O, the Best of those who are asked, and the Best of all who give.
O Allah, I place my complaint before You for my weakness, lack of means, and my insignificance in the eyes of people. O the Most Merciful of those who show mercy, to whom will You entrust me? To an enemy who will oppress me or to the hands of a sympathetic friend whom You have entrusted my affair? (O Allah,) if You are not displeased with me then I do not care for such things. Still, Your protection will be the easier for me.
O Allah, You alone do we worship and to You we pray and bow down prostrate. To You we hasten to worship and to serve. Our hope is for Your mercy and we fear Your punishment. Surely, Your punishment of the disbelievers is at hand. O Allah, we seek Your help and Your forgiveness, and we praise You beneficently. We do not deny You and we believe in You. We surrender to You and renounce whoever disbelieves in You
‘O Allah, I beg Thee for Thy love and for the love of those who love Thee. O Allah, enable me to do deeds through which I will gain Thy love. O Allah, make Thy love dearer to me than the love of myself, my wealth, my family and even the love of cold water.’
O Allah, to You is due all praise with thanks; it is only Your domain to do favours with grace. O Allah, I beseech You to enable me to perform the deeds loves by You, develop sincere reliance on You, and hold good expectations from You
O Allah, extend Your graciousness to me by turning all difficulties into ease, for to make a difficulty easy is very easy for You. And I ask You for ease and forgiveness in the world and in the Hereafter. O Allah, forgive me for indeed You are the Generous Forgiver
O Allah, I beg You for health, chastity, integrity, good character, and acceptance of fate
O Allah, the Soother of worry, the Remover of grief, the Grantor of the dua of the helpless, the Giver of mercy and compassion in the world and the Hereafter, You alone can have true mercy on me. So show such mercy to me that will totally free me from the need of others mercy
O Allah, Your name is as-Salam (Giver of Peace); peace comes only from You and returns to You. I beg You, O the Majestic and Benevolent, that You accept our Du ās, grant us what we long for, and free us from needing those of Your creatures who do not need us
O Allah, I beg You for Your special mercy with which You may guide my heart, arrange my affairs, end my disorder, improve my religion, discharge my debt, protect that part of me that is out of sight, elevate whatever is in sight, brighten my face, purify my deeds, inspire me with what is right for me, return to me what I cherish and love, and protect me from every evil
O Allah, grant me faith that is never shaken, belief so that there is no disbelief thereafter, and mercy by virtue of which I gain the distinction of honor granted by You in this life and the Hereafter
O Allah, if there is any blessing that You have promised to any of Your creations or You are going to give it to any of Your servants, but I have been unable to conceive of it , and my efforts have fallen short of it, and my intentions and supplications have not reached it, then I also long for it and beg You for the same in the name of Your mercy, O Cherisher of the worlds
O Allah, O the Maker of strong covenants whose every command is right. I beseech You for peace on the Appointed Day and for Paradise on the Day of Eternity along with those who are close to You and will be watching you, are often busy in kneeling and prostrating before You, and who fulfill their covenants. Surely, You are the Merciful, the Most Loving, and indeed, You do what You will
O Allah, make us the ones who guide aright and are guided aright, who are neither misguided nor do they lead others astray. At peace with Your friends, at war with Your enemies. Loving with Your love those who love You. Despising with Your antagonism those of Your creatures who oppose You. O Allah, this is the supplication and it is up to You to grant it. This is the effort and the reliance is on You

Hierotheus, Bishop of Athens
Reading from the Synaxarion:
According to some, Hierotheus, like Saint Dionysius, was a member of the court of Mars Hill. Having first been instructed in the Faith of Christ by Paul, he became Bishop of Athens. He, in turn, initiated the divine Dionysius more perfectly into the mysteries of Christ; the latter, on his part, elaborated more clearly and distinctly Hierotheus' concise and summary teachings concerning the Faith. He too was brought miraculously by the power of the Holy Spirit to be present at the Dormition of the Theotokos, when, together with the sacred Apostles, he became a leader of the divine hymnody. "He was wholly transported, wholly outside himself and was so deeply absorbed in communion with the sacred things he celebrated in hymnology, that to all who heard him and saw him and knew him, and yet knew him not, he seemed to be inspired of God, a divine hymnographer," as Dionysius says (On the Divine Names, 3:2). Having lived in a manner pleasing to God, he reposed in the Lord.
Apoly tikion of Hierotheus, Bp. of Athens in the Fourth Tone
Since thou hadst been instructed in uprightness thoroughly and wast vigilant in all things, thou wast clothed with a good conscience as befitteth one holy. Thou didst draw from the Chosen Vessel ineffable mysteries; and having kept the Faith, thou didst finish a like course, O Hieromartyr Hierotheus. Intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved.
Kontakion of Hierotheus, Bp. of Athens in the Plagal of the Fourth Tone
As Athens' Hierarch, we acclaim thee, since through thee we have received instruction in things awesome and ineffable; for thou wast a God-inspired writer of divine hymns. O Hierotheus all-blessed, do thou pray to God, so that we may be redeemed from all calamities, that thus we may cry: Rejoice, O Father wise in things divine.
Epistle Reading
The Reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 4:8-21
Brethren, formerly, when you did not know God, you were in bondage to beings that by nature are no gods; but now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and beggarly elemental spirits, whose slaves you want to be once more? You observe days, and months, and seasons, and years! I am afraid I have labored over you in vain. Brethren, I beseech you, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong; you know it was because of a bodily ailment that I preached the gospel to you at first; and though my condition was a trial to you, you did not scorn or despise me, but received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus. What has become of the satisfaction you felt? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me. Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth? They make much of you, but for no good purpose; they want to shut you out, that you may make much of them, and not only when I am present with you. My little children, with whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you! I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you. Tell me, you who desire to be under law, do you not hear the law?
Gospel Reading
The Reading is from the Gospel According to Luke 7:31-35
The Lord said, "To what shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the market place and calling to one another, 'We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.' For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine; and you say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of man has come eating and drinking; and you say, 'Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by all her children."
