My first time seeing a glacier up close and personal. Even though they’ve decreased in size considerably, the size of a glacier is impossible to describe until you’ve seen it for yourself. Did you know glaciers also create their own microclimates?! Katabatic winds consist of locally cooled air moving down the glacier creating much colder breezes and climate around the foot of the glacier compared to the ambient temperatures - Also I love the word Katabatic . Small one wanted a tornado cake for his birthday. So, we made chocolate cupcakes, made grey cream cheese icing, and then used a blackberry as structure and covered it all with an inverted tornado of icing. The pretzels are meant to look like sticks caught up in the wind. *LIFE THREATENING RAIN GUYS* and it just happens to be called "Pacific Storm LUCIFER" haha (seriously though. Lucifer.) All jokes aside, Southern California is going to get blasted with rain. Weather Event Nov. 10th, 2020

Me talking about weather? What a shocker!!

Doing the forecast and I’m a giddy weathernerd tonight.

It’s not very often we see the unseasonably warm weather we’ve been experiencing around my neck of the woods here the last 7 days. November is typically in the 30s and 40s - that’s Fahrenheit for us ( -1°C or 4°C) but we’ve been spoiled with 75 degrees (23°C)!

So, why am I excited?

A strong frontal system will pass through my area bringing a chance for strong to severe storms. Stuff we usually stop seeing in September. Multiple modes of severe weather are possible. Damaging winds, heavy rain, frequent cloud to ground lightning, and a few isolated tornadoes.

That’s the greatest area of risk and folks, I happen to be in that area. Could I see a tornado tomorrow - maybe! Highly unlikely, but damaging winds are more likely. We had a derecho pummel our region a few months ago. Two hours west of me saw straight-line winds of 120 mph. My town saw 80 mph. Trees were down everywhere!

Here’s an outlook from my friends at the National Weather Service.

It’ll be a tale of two days in one tomorrow. Our high of 68 will be reached during the morning hours before the front sweeps in and plummets our temps to the lower 50s. By afternoon we should expect these storms to roll through.

The progress of a thunderstorm for 45 minutes over Santa Fe and how it affected the temperature as it went over. This is the storm tracker from Weathbug’s display edited together and sped up. This covers from 3:05 pm MDT to 4:50 pm MDT. The first, brief section is zoomed in a bit more than others. You’ll notice the temperature begins at 74 and dips to 59 before rebounding to 60 in the last section.
