Courtesy Repost from @chesterfieldcountypolice ChiefJeffreyKatz Last week, one of our officers, Michael Dean, found himself in a parking lot with his back to a shooting that resulted in a man losing his life. Upon hearing the gunshot, Ofc. Dean opened his car door, exited, and immediately found himself face-to-face with the killer, who was still armed with a handgun. Officer Dean didn’t shoot the man - even though such an action would be justified. Instead, he courageously challenged the killer and took him into custody without incident. It was a moment of heroism amidst a tragedy that wasn’t widely covered by the mainstream media. Nevertheless, we shared this information with our community on this and other social media platforms and informed the community of this performance. You deserve to know when our people get it right…and more often than not, we do, despite it getting little attention. This afternoon, I came into my office and noticed these beautiful flowers sent by our beloved colleague and partner - Dr. Zoe Spencer from Virginia State University. They were sent to Ofc. Dean’s attention. Over the years, our department has worked closely with Dr. Spencer, Dr. McCall, and a number of other partners from VSU on an array of community issues and challenges. We cherish these relationships and we can’t thank Dr. Spencer enough for recognizing our staff in the face of heroism. Dr. Spencer, we see you and we appreciate you so very much!! @TxDPS #TrooperChadWalker remains on life support to donate organs CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — 1:36 p.m. UPDATE: The Texas Department of Public Safety says that Trooper Chad Walker no longer displays signs of viable brain activity. After life-saving efforts conducted by the Baylor Scott and White medical teams failed, Walker will remain on life support so that he can donate his organs. "This final sacrifice embodies Trooper Walker’s actions throughout his life and service as a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper," said a post from Texas DPS. "The Walker family is grateful for the continued support and prayers as they remain at Chad’s side." ORIGINAL STORY: The state of Texas is rallying behind a DPS trooper who is fighting for his life. Walker was hit once in the head and chest. He is currently in critical condition in a Waco hospital. Earlier today we spoke with DPS Sgt. Nathan Brandley, who says Walker's first assignment with the DPS was in the Coastal Bend. “Trooper Chad Walker came out of the graduation class of B-2015,” Brandley said. “It was a law enforcement class that DPS had put through here. Everyone here that worked with Trooper Walker. We loved his personality, he was fun to be around. He was one of those types of people that you wanted to be around because he was uplifting.” KXXV television in Waco reports that Pinson has died by suicide. He was found at a residence near the scene of the shooting.  #officerdown #bluelivesmatter #webackthebadge https://www.kristv.com/news/texas-news/texas-rallying-behind-dps-trooper-fighting-for-his-life (at Corpus Christi, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNBRILFnlV_/?igshid=zm2voesh2057

😪🙏🇺🇸💙💔 Say MY name. I was shot in the head and killed, on my 47th birthday, while responding to shots fired in a domestic dispute. I was murdered by Carl Le'Ellis Blount, a black male on probation, with outstanding warrants, whose lengthy criminal history, included assault toward both his girlfriend and an officer. I didn’t have the opportunity to defend myself in any manner. My killer approached me as I sat in my squad car, lights on, engine running, and pulled the trigger. I was left to die, and was later found slumped over the steering wheel. I was a veteran, and a survivor of Desert Storm. I did not, however, survive serving those in my own community. I was senselessly taken from my four daughters, and my fiancé. My name is Jeffrey Westerfield, and my life mattered. #OfcJeffreyWesterfield #SayHisName #AllLivesMatter #BlueLivesMatter #WeBackTheBadge https://www.instagram.com/p/CFd8FtTnQG-/?igshid=10rcmdfepfuki

Reposted from @browardsheriffsoffice Today, we honor the life and service of #DeputySheriffRobertMilligan who proudly served the residents of Broward County for 27 years. His career began at @hollywoodflpd in 1949. During that time, former Chief of Police Thompson stated Deputy Milligan scored the highest on his Sergeant's examination and would be an excellent candidate for the position. He retired as a Lieutenant in 1974 and shortly after joined the Broward Sheriff's Office in 1976 as a Civil Deputy. On August 9, 1978 while serving an eviction notice in Lauderhill, Deputy Milligan sustained a gunshot wound and passed away three days later. LAUDERHILL, Fla. – The @lauderhillpolice has lost one of its officers to the novel coronavirus. The department announced on Sunday that an officer had died due to complications related to COVID-19. Officer Corey Pendergrass had been with Lauderhill PD since 1997. He died Sunday morning, according to the department’s Twitter page. “We will miss you tremendously,” the tweet said. On Sunday evening, Lauderhill Police Chief Constance Stanley released a statement about Pendergrass, signing it Your Chief, friend and sister in blue. “The City of Lauderhill sadly, and with a very heavy heart, mourn the death of our dearly beloved brother and friend, Officer Corey Pendergrass. Corey lost his battle to Covid-19 on the morning of July 26th, 2020. Corey began his career with the City of Lauderhill in 1997. He enjoyed being a police officer and was always willing to do what it took to get the job done. Corey was a very humble person and was described by many as a ‘gentle giant.' He was a mentor to co-workers and members of the community. Corey had a very unique way of dealing with members of the public and has been known to leave an indelible impression on those he encountered. The many accolades received by members of the community speaks volumes to his character, which was beyond question. The overwhelming support received from the community and other agencies has been greatly appreciated. The men and women of the Lauderhill Police Department and the entire city were very fortunate to have such a wonderful, kind and giving individual, who was always there when you needed him. Corey never let anything get the best of him and always looked at the positive side of things when faced with adversity. Corey will be sorely missed by us all. May his life and legacy live on; as he was a man amongst men. Corey is survived by his beloved wife and children. Corey, may you rest in peace. We will forever love and remember you for the person you were.” #webackthebadge (at The Lauderhill Police Department) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDIjoC9HBnZ/?igshid=16j2hqil5ctri
