THE NEXT PERSON WHO SAYS IT DOESN'T WORK GETS PUBLICLY EXECUTED VIA HAMMERCAR (check reblogs for further info)
"what's it like to use nightshade/glaze?"
so based on my own experience I thought I'd make this more transparent since I know a lot of people hesitate to take action on some things if they do not know Exactly what happens. it's me i'm people. So;
Nightshade takes about 30 minutes on its fastest setting. The end result tends to look like mild jpeg artifacting, very slightly creased paper, or just brush texturing. Looking at it normally, it is undetectable. Glaze is very visually similar, given the strategy, except that Glaze's longest time setting is 5 minutes.
You put in a file, select how much you want it affected and for how long you want it to render. For Nightshade, you also attach a tag to it, that way AI finds what it's looking for with an associated word. You select a folder for the final result to save to, then hit run.
It takes a lot of GPU/CPU. The fans on my laptop sound a bit like I'm running Minecraft, and it refuses to run if you have too many programs open. I could run Youtube and Nightshade at the same time, but Youtube did Not like it. Best to just take a break while you let it do its thing. Run Nightshade before you go out or something.
It does NOT like transparent png backgrounds. Makes me wonder how AI does with 'em. Anyways, running a backgroundless drawing through Glaze and Nightshade respectively makes it turn out like this:
creasing effect is more noticeable, and it adds strange blocky black and white backgrounds to it. If you want good results for your time, be that less than 1 minute or 180 minutes, consider getting rid of the transparency.
I would post a before and after picture of a Nightshaded piece but of course, I would like to post exclusively poison on this site.
As one last note, it took me a lot of effort to find where you're actually supposed to download these tools, so Glaze is here and Nightshade is here. Overall I highly recommend using them if you can. Don't let AI run you off of your sites: run the AI out yourself.

AI DISTURBANCE "OVERLAYS" DO NOT WORK!
To all the artists and folks who want to protect their art against AI mimicry: all the "AI disturbance" overlays that are circulating online lately DON'T WORK!
Glaze's disturbance (and now the Ibis Paint premium feature, apparently. Not sure.) modifies the image on a code-level, it's not just an overlayed effect but it actually affects the image's data so AI can't really detect and interpret the code within the image. From the Glaze website:
Can't you just apply some filter, compression, blurring, or add some noise to the image to destroy image cloaks? As counterintuitive as this may be, the high level answer is that no simple tools work to destroy the perturbation of these image cloaks. To make sense of this, it helps to first understand that cloaking does not use high-intensity pixels, or rely on bright patterns to distort the image. It is a precisely computed combination of a number of pixels that do not easily stand out to the human eye, but can produce distortion in the AI's “eye.” In our work, we have performed extensive tests showing how robust cloaking is to things like image compression and distortion/noise/masking injection. Another way to think about this is that the cloak is not some brittle watermark that is either seen or not seen. It is a transformation of the image in a dimension that humans do not perceive, but very much in the dimensions that the deep learning model perceive these images. So transformations that rotate, blur, change resolution, crop, etc, do not affect the cloak, just like the same way those operations would not change your perception of what makes a Van Gogh painting "Van Gogh."
Anyone can request a WebGlaze account for FREE, just send an Email or a DM to the official Glaze Project accounts on X and Instagram, they reply within a few days. Be sure to provide a link to your art acc (anywhere) so they know you're an artist.
Please don't be fooled by those colorful and bright overlays to just download and put on your art: it won't work against AI training. Protect your art with REAL Glaze please 🙏🏻 WebGlaze is SUPER FAST, you upload the artwork and they send it back to you within five minutes, and the effect is barely visible!

What did you mean that glaze doesn't work on your art style? /gen
the trouble with glaze is it's supposed to hide it's patterns in the detail of the image, but i have a more cartoon/anime influenced art style with larger swaths of flat color or no detail that the patterns stand out against, so it's just... Visible.
(glazed vs unglazed. it really messed up her face in particular)
also sometimes i send images to webglaze and i just... never get anything back?? so instead i've decided to start uploading much lower quality artwork with bigger watermarks. I think i've read that AI favors large, high-quality PNG files, so if you upload smaller resolution art with a bit of jpg Crust you're less likely to be stolen from, or if you are you're going to mess with the output a little lmao.
#ask#pizza-feverdream#webglaze#tldr if you dont have any glaze storebought (jpg compression) is fine#havent gotten to mess with webglaze as much as i'd like because like i said i dont always get something back at all but thats my findings

I’m seeing so many people posting about glaze and nightshade and webglaze all being difficult to access and how frustrating that is which is valid!!
The answer is Cara!!! They partnered with Glaze and have their own web browser for running it and it doesn’t require jumping through hoops to gain access like WebGlaze. all you need is to make an account and BAM you have access. The one drawback is that they don’t have the bandwith to do it quickly so it can take a couple hours, but it doesn’t kill your computer to do so!
Here’s the link and i wish you all a happy glazing and ai ruining❤️
Also to opt out of tumblr forking over your content to train ai, you have to scroll past settings down to the bottom and click Visibility. It took me ages to find it as all the posts i found saying where to find it said it was in blog settings. Kinda feels like they’re intentionally making it hard to find…

Gentle reminder to fellow artists to please Glaze or Nightshade your work before posting online. Glaze even has a web browser version for those who do not have sufficiently powerful PCs or who work on mobile devices like iPads.
You can find it as “WebGlaze” from the University of Chicago, though you may have to sign up with an email address before you can use it.
There isn’t a lot we can do when companies make a target of our output, the best we can do is protect our work with watermarks and tools like Glaze. It may not be a perfect solution, but it at least prevents genAI from mimicking your style (which is the big selling point of these scummy generators)

For my art friends: some anti-scraping protection for your website
I found out about this via the bluesky user linked above, but Cloudflare has implemented a solution to help prevent AI scraping of websites. There is some technical stuff involved (you need to run your own website/domain, you need to know a bit about how to change DNS stuff, general stuff related to that) but their blog post explains most of it in relatively simple English.
This is also available under their free service tier, which immediately got my attention.
It's probably not a perfect solution, but I know I'll take anything I can get nowadays for help. Sometimes I feel like it's a lost cause by now, but I can't continue to think this way.
