THANK YOU, SIR CARL. THE BEST AMONG THE REST 🤍
From Disappointment to Renewed Hope: Week 16
The anticipation was high as our team prepared for the final presentation of TrendTailor, our capstone project. Sir Carl had promised us an exemption from the final exam if our system met all the requirements. We were motivated and determined. However, on presentation day, we encountered a setback. We were only able to present the designer and client dashboards as we faced significant challenges with our MySQL database. Disappointment set in, but a message from Sir Carl brought a glimmer of hope. He informed us that we would still be exempted from the final exam and granted us another opportunity to present our completed system. It was a day of mixed emotions, a rollercoaster ride from initial disappointment to renewed hope and determination

Forever grateful na to have an instructor very considerate, super taas pasensya. I love you, we love you Sir Carl. Salute!🦋

Week 16: A Roller Coaster of Emotions on Presentation Day
The day of our final presentation for TrendTailor had arrived—a moment we had all been preparing for. Earlier, Sir Carl had encouraged us by stating that if our system met 100% of the requirements, we would be exempt from the final exam. This gave our team a boost of motivation. However, on presentation day, we could only showcase the designer and client dashboards, as we faced significant challenges with our database, which was built using MySQL.
Despite our struggles, a glimmer of hope emerged when Sir Carl informed us that we were exempt from the final exam and would be given another opportunity to present our system. The day was a whirlwind of emotions, but it ultimately ended on a positive note.

December 12, 2024 | Quiz 2 and Last Day.
Week 16
In Week 16, we had Quiz 2. I was late preparing for it because we had an advanced final exam in DDC at 7 AM. Since I’m not a morning person, I went back to sleep after the exam and woke up around 11 AM. I panicked because, for some reason, I thought our SDE class was at 1 PM, but class was about to start when I woke up. I quickly reviewed Topics 8 and 9 and managed to answer some of the quiz questions, although I wasn’t sure about most of my answers. After the quiz, we had our final group activity. This was also our last day of SDE, so we took a class picture to remember the moment. Time flew by so fast. This subject gave us a lot of unforgettable moments—whether we were laughing, crying, or on the verge of losing our minds. But we kept pushing through because we still had exams and our PITs (Performance Innovative Task) to complete.

Life Color Post Week 16:
I can’t believe this is the last color post of the semester!

Alright so the first picture is from the same pub in the post for week 15. I just love all of the colors of the flags, flowers, all the decor, and the crest shields! They’re all so vibrant and happy and it looks like such a cute little pub!
I made 2 color palettes this week because it’s the last life color post but also I wanted to see both of these as color palettes! Both of these houses and the plants around them were so cute. And look at that beautiful cat! Such a chill cat, he was just laying there enjoying the warm weather and all of the beautiful nature around him. What a vibe.

Because blue is one of my most favorite colors, I decided to make everything in this drawing blue! This illustration was done with some Crayola Silly Scents markers I have lying around, a random blue brush marker I bought at the dollar store and other art supplies I have, hope y'all like it! 😃 Character is © to me @waterlilyhighwc1 #blue #starfish #week16 #inktober #inktoberchallenge #waterlilyhigh #inktober2020 #waterlilyhighwc1 #inktober52 #instaartist #instagramartists #artistsoninstangram https://www.instagram.com/p/B_VRiycH1NK/?igshid=1feu35crau9wx

Research Media Roles
How to break into character design
Obviously this is not a step by step guide into becoming a character designer because everyone makes their own path and encounters their own opportunities. The creative industry is not like others, as in most cases you cannot simply follow a straight path into a professional job. However, you can do the right tings to get yourself in beneficial situations that can further your career.
Luis Grane

•After two failed attempts at contacting character designers on social media. I decided to research Luis Grane, a character designer who has worked in animated films including Prince of Egypt, Hotel Transylvania, Ratatouille, and Boxtrolls. I wanted to find out his work and how he broke into the industry.
•Grane began by creating comic strips in Argentina later he moved to London to work on commercial animation. However he was not fully content doing this so he began to study at Sheridan College in Canada and from there he got hired by DreamWorks. Whilst at DreamWorks he began to focus on doing character design and worked in various projects in studios like Pixar, Sony, Laika, Digital Domain, Warners, Disney and Aardman.

•Judging by Grane’s career it is safe to say that character design is a very competitive role in the industry and you must jump onto any opportunity that comes your way. Even when he worked for DreamWorks he still had many side projects with other studios. Also it does not seem to matter what animation style the project Is, as Grane as worked in both Boxtrolls and Prince of Egypt. One being a stop motion film and the other a 2D animated film.
Inspirational Quotes
‘I have a studio in downtown LA where I divided my time working in commercial projects for advertising and film productions and doing my own personal work in visual arts, video projections, video installations, and paintings.’
‘I will not deny that strong drawing skills will help in this process, but throughout my career I’ve seen many artists that are technically outstanding but their designs lack appeal and charm. On the other hand, many artists with limited skills have a powerful sense of design so they are able to produce characters that immediately connect with the audience.’
‘Likewise, I think luck exists, but it has to find you working. I don’t like the concept of luck, I prefer to think of chance because, throughout your career, you get your chances.’
‘draw less, think more’
The art of The Incredibles
In the book ‘The art of the Incredibles’ production designer Lou Romano mentions that Mr. Incredibles design was very close to his earliest as from the start they had a very clear image of what they wanted. They wanted him to look like an ageing football player, past his prime. This small trait gives so much personality to the character that the audience begins to automatically fill in the gaps and familiarize themselves to cast.

As for his outfit, it was very basic. He would dress like a regular dad, it didn’t matter if he was a superhero this made him relatable to people both children with fathers like Mr. incredible and dads themselves, it also humanizes the character. This brings us back to Luis Grane who talked about the fact characters should not always be complex but filled with personality. Mr. incredible is made of very based shapes but this is what makes him so relatable and recognizable.

Week 1(6) Update
Hey all, not much in news today for updates, but that is not a bad thing.
I'll be honest, I had a bit of an off week this time around: been feeling particularly low mentally speaking, but once again, thank you past me for making good progress that allowed me to take a sort of break week.
My HP Sprocket Plus had died, and I have acquired a new HP Sprocket Select to replace it (turns out the Plus model is discontinued, who would have known?); I've also been having it a bit tough in my own personal matters of life.
Regardless, I feel I have really gotten to the core of what I want to do: for exhibition, I think showing off my drawings, with input and output, is the way to go. I will also show early progress to show the budding starts of it, and it will really sell the durational aspect of my project.
I think the part that will be most influential too will be the moment I finally take the AI off of my own art, and have enough curated test images to then fully train off of. In essence, I can "finish" the project off at the exhibition. As such, these weeks will merely continue to train, as I start to replace the dataset with more images of my own art. This will be really really cool to see, and I'll probably leave hell week (week 20, or week 10 of this quarter) as a test week for the fully independent model.
Fun stuff ahead!

Happy Week 16!
Just a few reminders for this final week of regular classes in Non Woven Structures...
1.) Tuesday is a work day, so be sure to bring your projects to class to utilize this valuable work time.
2.) Our final critique of the semester is scheduled on Thursday during class. We will start the critique promptly at 3:45, so plan accordingly if your work requires installation time beyond the 15 minutes allowed or if your work requires a particular site in the classroom for installation. Remember to post your name and the title of your work alongside your piece for the critique conversation.
3.) Our final is scheduled for Wednesday May 10th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Plan to be here for the full 2 hours.
