as promised in the last post, @kandavers requested an explanation for the ship names for Basil, Whisky and Will, and I shall deliver! Note: some of these are a bit of a stretch..

Apologies I changed tones like 5 times writing this (I have the inability to keep the same tone for some reason-)

Sweet Star Speakers! 🍬 🌟🔊 Sweet - referencing Whisky's job as chocolatier, chocolates are sweet! Star - space related in reference to Will's love of space! Speakers - I wanted an alliteration going.. Basil's role is to advertise Welcome Home merchandise and people used to advertise stuff in the streets using a speaker, idk if this one is a bit of a stretch or not..

Charming Chocolate Comets! ✨🍫☄ Charming - Basil's trait of being the most charming of all! Chocolate - Whisky reference! Comet - space reference!

Sweet Sparkles! 🍬💫 Sweet - another Whisky reference! Sparkles - Basil sparkles in appearance because he's so charming! and space has a lot of sparky stars which Will loves!

Purple Skies! 💜🌅 Purple - the colour of Will's skin! Skies - this one has a double meaning! 1) beyond the sky is the space which Will wants to explore! 2) the sky is blue! (most of the time) and so is Basil and Whisky's skin!

Wholesome-meter Overload! ⛽ This one is pretty self explanitory, just look at them awww

Shy Rizz! (灬º‿º灬)♡ Whisky is more on the shy side whilst the other two is just trying to rizz (intentional or unintentional) as many people as they can-

Shiny Cookbook! 💎📖 Shiny - Basil is so charming that he shines and Will likes the shining things (stars) in space :> Cookbook - recipes that Whisky would use as a chocolatier!

Star Sandwich! 🌟🥪 A sandwich requires at least 3 parts, and there's three of them! Sandwich is also food related so it loosely links to Whisky. Will likes stars and Basil shines like a star!

Space Foods! 🌌🍱 Will likes space, Whisky works with food, and space food packets are usually purple (like Basil)!

Charmed! 💖 This is us.. we are charmed.. because these three together are so charming..

Basil Leaf on a Star! 🌿⭐ Basil - it's Basil's name! Leaf - Basil leaves are used a lot in cooking, and sometimes desserts which Whisky makes! Perhaps this can just be shortened to 'Basil on a Star', hmm.. Star - linked to Will!

Rocket Launch! 🚀 Rocket - Will needs a rocket to go to space! Fun fact: 'Rocket' also refers to a English leaf used for cooking! Wonder if Whisky can experiment with that.. Launch - kinda like launching a product that Basil would advertise!

Warmth in the Cold! 🔥❄ All three boys have mostly a cold colour scheme but their feelings for each other makes everything fluff and warm!

Cooking up Business! 🍳🏢 Cooking - Whisky has to temper chocolate which is kind of like cooking it right?? Up - Will needs to up up up to reach space! Business - Basil advertises merch to bring in business for 'Welcome Home'!

Welcome Home if it was set in the region of Brittany/Bretagne, France

The plot a mess, mainly focusing on Sally and Wally coming back to their hometown as adults, and rediscovering the place. Sally is an author, inspired by the local folklore and trying to find the best plot ideas, going as far as to play detectives and get her nose in the wrong places

There is also a good bit of plot about faes living along puppets, religion taking over folklore, and the struggle of not quite being like everyone (*COUGH COUGH* neurodivergence allegory *COUGH COUGH*)

Anyway, finally finished the sillies ! I'm so proud of Sally and the Joyfuls designs

Welcome Home OC — Sammi Cruise⚓️

I don’t think I ever shared anything about them here yet, and if I did, it was probably when I first started out here, so who knows where it is now? XD

Anyways, here I present: Sammi Cruise

Since Sammi’s bio is cut off here, their bio reads as so:

“Cool as the sea breeze they ride with, Sammi Cruise can get you from sea to shining sea in no time. Although they’re hesitant towards other people at first, Sammi becomes as big and loud as their boat once they’re comfortable. Sammi isn’t particular about how their ship Vernias looks, but safety for their passengers is of upmost importance. With proper preparation, there’s no sea too rough to get her passengers home in ship-shape condition.”

Sammi Cruise was a character that hardly ever appeared in Welcome Home, but was part of the focus of each of the episodes they were featured in. They were a humanoid character (akin to Eddie Dear, Wally Darling, and Frank Frankly), and were often found residing beyond the very outskirts of Home. From the few scripts we’ve found that feature Sammi, it seems that their boat was named Vernias. It might have seemed that Vernias was alive from how Sammi interacted with it, but this remains unknown.

It’s unclear if they had any particular segments in the show, but Sammi was known to inform the neighbors of Home and the viewers about marine and ocean life, as well as proper boating safety.

Sammi Cruise was a simple rod and hand puppet, and always had their coat resting upon their shoulders rather than actually wearing it, only wearing the coat properly in colder temperatures. Sammi also had close bonds with Howdy Pillar and Eddie Dear, as the three of them are the only ones in Welcome Home with careers. The option of different careers seemed to have also been promoted in the few pieces of merchandise featuring Sammi. The three were always paired together, with Sammi importing and exporting goods and out-of-neighborhood mail for Howdy and Eddie respectively.

Bits of trivia and headcanons:

Despite their ability to hold and feel crustaceans and ocean invertebrates, Sammi cannot handle holding bugs and insects on land

Sammi often teased Frank for having the same issue but for ocean invertebrates and crustaceans, mostly by bringing whatever species they were holding up close to him

The inspiration for Sammi Cruise was brought in from Captain Caviar Cookie (Cookie Run Kingdom), Mogens (Klaus - Netflix), Marina Anchors (Lalaloopsy), and the Disney Steamboat Willie short

Sammi often personified her boat Vernias; with the front of Vernias also looking like a face, it’s why it’s unsure whether or not Vernias was actually alive like Home is

Sammi Cruise knew how to play the accordion

Sammi Cruise didn’t have a defined gender, a line of dialogue saying simply “I don’t really stick with labels”

Underneath the deck of their boat was where Sammi lived, with a small kitchen and dining table, and a hammock to sleep in

Can you tell us more about Eugene and Wally

Wally and Gene as a couple is the kind of relationship you'd call unlikely at first until you think about it some more and then it starts to make sense. Wally puts a lot of trust in Eugene and his intelligence, given he's the only person that can confirm for 100% certain that there are apples in that damn pie, and Eugene is just so endeared by Wally and his shenanigans, he thinks Wally is very cute and finds it very hard to say no to him to the point that he wouldn't even consider doing so. Wally enjoys hearing Eugene animatedly talk at length about things he doesn't even pretend to understand (when they aren't apple related) and Eugene enjoys watching Wally just be, watching him paint or talk to others in that soft and calm way of his. Eugene very much likes being listened to and Wally likes Eugene's company (though it could be said that he also likes seeing Gene blush!)

They're coy and playful with each other, Wally moreso than Eugene. Wally likes to make Gene smile and as such seems to have this delight for gently bothering and flustering him, making the scientist laugh and smile and try and hide away from his teasing. In turn, Eugene likes to catch Wally off guard with things that take Wally a moment to comprehend. He always gives him time to process it and likes the way Wally's eyes light up when it clicks.

Wally: Hello, Mr. Igneous.

Eugene: Wally, we've been over this.

Wally: Heh heh, I know. It's Doc-

Eugene, brushing Wally's cheek with his knuckle: Call me Mr. Darling

Wally: ?

Wally: But that's my name...?

Eugene: Mhm.
