infodump time!

this is for my TOH au, some basic information for the big three of the cast and what their roles are! aaaand maybe also a sketch dump since I have too many pencil drawings of this au...

Dr. Henry Jekyll

Leader of the Secret Society for Wild Magic. Also a part-time potions seller. 

After graduation from Hexside, his initial aspiration was to join the Emperor’s Coven. As such, he began trying to test out his magical prowess and became a curse researcher, collecting rare curses (akin to Eda’s) and began looking for cures. While some of his methods proved effective, during this time Jekyll was deeply absorbed into his work and started neglecting his own health, leading Lanyon and Rachel to become very worried for him. 

One night, while researching a particularly gruesome curse, Jekyll believed he finally worked out a cure. With no other subjects, he could only test it on himself. Thus, potion in hand, he decided it was a great idea to go curse himself with a cure that he believed was mostly effective.

Lo and behold, that was the first transformation. The curse lashed out in black ribbons, enveloping Jekyll before diving straight into his heart, issuing several screams from the brunette until all that was left was a bundle of loose clothes, shattered glass, scraps of paper leftover from the curse and research, and one tiny blonde gremlin among said loose clothes. Thus, that very night, Hyde was born. A curse that should’ve killed Jekyll, torn his very body apart, taken control over the leftover scraps, now resides in his body as half of himself, shares his memories and would become the mask Jekyll uses to indulge in activities he finds unacceptable for himself to engage in. The potion that failed to cure the curse is now the key to transforming into each other.

With Hyde, Jekyll quickly realised that joining the Emperor’s Coven is no longer a feasible choice for himself and instead, with Lanyon’s help (due to his family being super wealthy and influential) was able to pull some strings and fake a Potions coven sigil, thus taking suspicion off of him while keeping his status as a wild witch.

His palisman is a crow named Crowley. His staff also never initially had the red gem lmao, he stuffed it in himself to try and give it a more sophisticated look. He also has ear piercings! First made just to get Hyde to stop whining, he later decided he may as well wear something, namely tiny black diamond studs.

Mr Edward Hyde

Jekyll’s personal “assistant”. A trader and scammer at the Night Market. He often enjoys committing petty crimes and also trades his potions for rare ingredients required for more powerful spells. Sometimes he’d even bring a few of the Lodgers to sell their inventions too, to make sure the Society still has snails to spare for basic necessities. Most of what Hyde earns in the Night Market goes to his nighttime adventures, but whatever’s left by the time he transforms back will be used by Jekyll to keep the lights on in the secret Society. Besides the Night Market, he likes to go drinking at the sketchier parts of Bonesborough, often getting into skirmishes and bar fights. He relies on Jekyll’s magic and rarely ever uses his palisman to avoid divulging his identity. For transportation, he prefers teleportation spells or magic some wings to make a quick escape. No, he’s not a bird beast. I’ve long decided he is not some crow beast or something, he’s just an amalgamation of Jekyll’s worst traits.

He has about the same relationship with Jekyll as in TGS, perhaps even more tense as Jekyll is very concerned about ensuring that Hyde keeps a low profile and does not reveal the fact he’s a wild witch. Hyde hides it about as well as you’d expect, and eventually the information that he doesn’t have a sigil is picked up by the Emperor’s Coven. He’s never gotten caught before though, oh, and he also idolizes Eda the Owl Lady very much, but never goes to find her, since he’s terrified of Hooty.

The oopsy-doopsy arson will still happen, which I will cover eventually but bottom line is it’ll make Belos strengthen efforts into finding and tracing Hyde’s roots. Through the following disagreements and punishment from Jekyll, Hyde learns he can block Jekyll from using his magic for short bursts of time, and eventually with practice, longer periods spanning from hours to days.

He also has silver ring earrings. Every time he transforms he takes the time to take off Jekyll’s plain black diamond studs to replace it with them and I find that funny.

Dr. Robert Lanyon

A master illusionist, one of Jekyll’s closest friends and co-runner of the Society. Also helps around Jekyll’s potions business.

He’s the reason Jekyll was able to stay a wild witch in the first place. He was able to use his Illusion magic to fake a sigil for Jekyll and using his position of power, pulled some strings to prevent the scouts from investigating further. His father is a prosperous Constructions witch who helps Belos strengthen the castle and fortify bases for scouts throughout Bonesborough, earning him a position of high rank in the Isles. Lanyon despises it though, and took Illusions to spite his father, who wanted him to take a more “useful” track in school such as Abominations or Constructions so he would have more job opportunities. Outside attending dinner parties or finishing errands for his father, he does whatever he wants, usually sneaking off to parts of Bonesborough or to the Society to see Jekyll. He doesn’t even necessarily attend dinner parties, often preferring to have an illusion of himself attending. Lanyon Sr pretends not to notice this.

Unaware of Jekyll’s curse, he hated the idea of Hyde being affiliated with him and yet always so dangerously on the brink of exposing his identity as a wild witch, but so long as Hyde continues helping the Society stay afloat and doesn’t get caught, Lanyon keeps his thoughts to himself. That is, until the arson changes everything. While he helps sort out the paperwork and aids Jekyll in keeping the Society hidden, he is not close to any of the Lodgers and prefers to pretend he isn’t associated with them, mostly out of concern and to keep suspicion off him and by extension, his dear friend.

He has the most insane piercings too, with large gold spheres resembling Eda’s, along with two more piercings further up his ears.

also, minor thing but I've finally given this au a proper name lol, it's now called The Crow House after Jekyll's palisman, which is a crow! I've also updated the tag for it in my pinned post so not to worry!

Corrugated ribbing, my beloathed! It looks so nice but it's such a hassle to knit...I will say, though, that since I learned to hold each color of yarn in a different hand for two-color knitting, and do the purl stitches with the left-hand yarn, it's a much smoother process than when I first learned to do it and had to drop one yarn and pick up the other and move the yarn from front to back and back to front to alternate knits and purls and so on.

I got the chart for these gloves all ready to begin and then looked at the actual pattern notes from the prototype gloves and realized I have to first do the corrugated ribbing. Oh dear! XD And if that isn't hassle enough, we're going to top that ribbing with a Latvian Braid.

So anyway, after a few rows of this nonsense, I let myself get distracted from the two inches of ribbing I need to knit by...uh...filming the process. And then I discovered I have a video editor so I added stuff. :-D Just how much can I procrastinate actually finishing this ribbing? I'd better get back to it now!

Hiii Matthew switch anon here again (loving how it keeps evolving omg it makes my day when other anons come up). Kinda wish sometimes that dom/sub and a/b/o could mesh because I love mcmattdrai with switch Matthew but I would also love if that included scenting and scent blockers and suppressants. Just think of the possibilities like the DRAMA it could cause. The MAYHAM. Like:

Matthew uses a scent blocker. His dad has always made him. “keep your mind on hockey and not those dumb dynamics” (notably Brady’s dynamic was never dumb and he doesn’t use suppressants).

Matthew drives Leon crazy and he doesn’t know why. Sends him into a fury on the ice. Connor and Leon are bonded or going to bond, took them a while to get there but theyre so stupid for each other… but the scents just still a little… off. Not wrong. Like somethings… missing. But they’re it for each other and they know it. Must be nature fucking up.

During an all star game off the ice, maybe after in the club, halfway to drunk, M gets close to C and L and…. Shit they smell good. SO good. and immediately, Matthew feels it snap into place. That’s his dom, and his sub, and he sways forward without thinking, he doesn’t have to, that’s where he belongs… and Leon turns towards him- With a snarl and annoyance on his face. He steps in front of Connor, guarding him. And it hits Matthew- they cant smell him, and even if he could… they HATE him. They wouldn’t even want him if they knew.

Leon snaps “what do you want”. Matthew, the light fading from his eyes “nothing. Sorry.” He walks away, his chest already starting to hurt. His entire body screaming at him to turn around, go back. But he doesn’t. Hockey comes first, it would never work anyway. Even if they did want him, which they don’t. Won’t. This was always going to be the case for him. It’s better they’ll never smell him, never know.

Years go by. One day, Matthew scent blockers/suppressants start fail. He’s been on them too long. he walks past Leon and Leon… Leon swings around because that’s IT, that’s what’s missing that’s the scent they’ve been looking for, and he looks and… of course fucking Tkachuk’s in the way right now… but there’s no one behind him.

And Leon understands in that moment, locking eyes with Matthew… that Matthew knows. He HAS known. And Matthew… he panics. He knew there would be disgust on Leon’s face, but he never needed to actually see it. It’s the one thing he just can’t take. His dynamic brain can’t take, his dom rejecting him.

His scent spikes with distress, with loneliness, with heartbreak. He runs. He drops.

And Leon… what would he dooooooo 👀👀👀

OH MY GOD.

Okay, first of all, YES to the idea of dom/sub with scenting and bonding. (It's funny, my guess is that this is circling back to something closer to how a/b/o probably started, with an exaggerated alpha/omega dynamic that has a lot of d/s overtones. But then a/b/o has a lot of markers of gender, and you want to complicate that by not having a dominant personality always end up as the alpha and so on. So a/b/o becomes a lot more variable, and then it gets recombined with d/s here to bring back some of that binary it's so satisfying to play with. I don't know if the actual history of a/b/o reflects that, but that's my guess.)

And also all the yes to this plot idea, omg. Anon you have GONE OFF. I mean, I think you should probably write this entire fic, but in my mind here's what happens next:

Connor's the one who finds Matthew. Matthew ran away fast enough that Leon lost track of him, and his scent blockers are failing but not enough for tracking purposes, so Leon is frantic, trying to find him. Leon runs up to Connor: "We have to find Matthew. He's our bondmate."

Connor, beyond confused: "Our what??"

Leon: "I...I don't know, I just..."

Connor: "...okay, okay, we can worry about that later. Let's find him."

So Connor goes and looks for him, not really sure what Leon's going on about -- did something happen between Leon and Matthew that Connor doesn't know about? Connor hopes not -- and then when he finally does find Matthew, Matthew's obviously in subdrop, which is extra weird because Connor thought he was a dom. But now that Connor thinks about it he doesn't remember ever smelling Matthew's scent at all. He can smell him faintly now, and he doesn't smell quite like a sub, but it's hard to tell because mostly all he can smell is distress.

Now, Connor's not a dom, but he knows how to deal with a person in subdrop. He gets down on his knees and wraps his arms around Matthew and stops him from gnawing on his hand and starts whispering soothing things to him. Once Matthew calms down a little, Connor gets out his phone and calls Leon and gets him to come join them. Leon shows up, wild-eyed, and Matthew's scent just -- spikes through the roof, alarm and longing and despair all tangling together and making even Connor dizzy. But Leon just gets down right next to them and wraps his arms around them both.

Matthew stiffens a little, at first. And then he goes absolutely boneless against Leon. He had started to relax against Connor before Leon got there, but that was nothing to this: this is like he set down a burden of a thousand pounds he'd been holding for years and years and now suddenly he can collapse. He's nosing into Leon's neck and whimpering. Leon has his hand around the back of Matthew's neck, fingers brushing his scent glands, and he's saying things to him in the low and steady voice that Connor's heard so many times in his own scenes with Leon. "You're okay now. We're here. We're not going to let you go."

Connor's not too sure about this at first. Seeing Leon with his hand around someone else's neck, talking to him like that -- but Matthew's scent is changing. It's blossoming, it's growing warm and full, not faint at all anymore, and suddenly it's the best thing Connor's ever smelled. He wants to keep inhaling and never stop. He wants to bury his own nose in Matthew's neck and get it straight from the source. And so he does, gets his face in there right next to Leon's fingers and breathes deep, and he feels something settle in him. Something that he never wanted to admit was unsettled in his relationship with Leon, because he loves Leon, their relationship is great, it would have broken Connor's heart to even consider the idea that they might not be the right fit together. But now Leon's scent is fanning out over both of them, layering with Matthew's, and this is it. This is what Connor wanted without ever having any idea. This is how the three of them fit together: perfectly.

hello dear friends! just letting you know that i have decided to try out the scots gaelic spelling of my name for a while to see if i prefer it to the english one. i deliberated about the matter for a long time before settling on edward but i have been Gazing Wistfully at the alternate spelling ever since then so i figured i may as well give it a chance given that i am as much scottish as i am english in all except physical location. in my accent the pronunciation is the same, and most of you call me ned anyway, so there will probably be very little change on the whole, but [vague gesture]. who am i to resist a little E with an accent
