Spinning Wheel - The Three Sisters

My piece for the Object Head Zine 2023 Edition. The theme was Historical Fiction so I decided to paint spinning wheels in different periods. We were allowed to post our whole piece a couple of months ago, but only remembered to post this now because of the KofiChallenge :'^) huhu

Linocut Journey: Part 1

Hi all! A couple of months ago, I bought 2 tiny linoleum blocks and a set of carving materials :^D

The design started with a simple sketch and then I re-drew it on the lino block. Drawing directly on it was not as easy as I thought it would be because I couldn't erase whatever I drew on it, even though I only used a pencil. The first thing that I learned is to use carbon paper to transfer the design rather than doing it freehand :'^)

After I was ok with the design, I started carving. At first, it was a bit difficult to do — almost cut myself — but I found my rhythm, and it became easier to work on.

It was only a day ago that I got to do some block printing tests and here are the results! It looks so cute!!

It's not perfect in any way and definitely I have a lot to improve on, but it's my first time doing this! And it turned out the way that I wanted it to look!!! Mr. Pringles Clown (yes, I named him that) looks adorable!! 🤡💕

I also edited this short vid (it's vertical ratio because it's for IG) and I thought I should share it here as well :'^) For lesson number 2, I need to learn how to make the ink seamless and not patchy. Although I have to say, the patchy look added character to the print hehe :^D I used watercolor paper and that might've affected how the paint transferred on it. It might've also been the way that I applied the paint. If you're a pro lino carver, feel free to let me know what I did wrong :_^) I'm gonna keep on testing things out in the meantime.

WiP shots of my recent Willow fanart. Thinking of drawing Wolfgang next, not sure when I'll be able to start/finish drawing him tho. It's prolly gonna take a couple of weeks from now as I'm slow af and also got other priorities to do oTL

(I struggled drawing this one more than my Wilson fanart. Mainly because I lacked focus and confidence painting/anatomy-wise. I was concerned that the head might be too big to the point that it becomes distracting, but my friend told me it's fine so I trusted her lol It's always the flippin' head :L I think exaggerating some parts is alright as long as it works well with the overall idea, and you're not only doing it because you're lazy to draw it the right way. This one I drew with a reference picture that I took of myself and I saw from my reference picture that the left arm doesn't look that way from that angle. But I didn't change it to the way it looks realistically because it doesn't have that same oomf effect that this exaggerated pose does. I also didn't know what to do with the background. I didn't want it to just be some boring wallpaper design. I want it to compliment her and to add a bit of narrative to the overall illustration. So I added smudges and some crystal-like highlights here and there.)

I'm still drawing the Willow fanart :'C Forgive me for being slow, here's a progress shots of my Wilson fanart.

(You can see me struggling in painting the background for this. I think background is one of my main weaknesses, next to anatomy lol But all of those can be learned so I'm taking it one step at a time. Also I tend to draw the head bigger or the limbs longer than they should be oTL but I noticed it later on and adjusted it accordingly. It's just annoying to fix sometimes)

Hey guys :')

No DS/DST related drawings for now. I was busy last month with work and was finishing this art piece for Saruei's art contest. Gotta be honest, not a big fan of the end product of this drawing :_) lol. There's so much I could've polished and added, but as always, I struggled with the initial composition and design. It is what it is. Need to expand my visual library and watch more cartoons ;')

Nonetheless, I'm glad I pushed myself to do it and actually finished it. That's a tiny improvement that I can be happy to share :'D Now I know my current limits as an artist and what steps I can do to be better next time. Also, I have a rough idea now on how long I can finish a piece this detailed if I ever open up commissions in the future. All guds in the end.

Sorry for the long post again, this blog is kind of becoming my diary for my thought process when I'm drawing. I don't have people to talk to extensively about this stuff so it's good to have a blog like this for pouring words out lol Thanks for reading!
