I can not find this mans clothing for the life of me this might be a ru to eng issue, or it could be that I'm just not looking in the right area. While I could have applied his normals and spec maps to this model I didn't.

This isn't actually a fan theory/headcanon as in I don't think it was ever actually planned but it's a fun scenario to play around with.

One of the lost primarchs was meant to act as a "counterweight" to Konrad Curze.

Alternatively Konrad was just never meant to work alone.

Konrad is the focus on punishment occasionally going too far, someone who was merciful to the point of risking martyrdom and Stockholm syndrome. Dealing with wrong doings through love and redemption (perhaps litterally lifting criminals out of poverty). Rehabilitation and support over punishment. While those who wouldn't budge went to Curze. Balancing each other out. They would reign Curze in when someone was just geniunly on a bad path or in desperate circumstances trying to feed their family while he would talk them out of getting walked all over by giving the same truely vile person chance after chance after chance. Konrad growing fiercely protective of them. (In real life this could easily just be a figure like Curze abusing a figure like them, but I'm gonna assume the sweet protectiveness instead.). In my fanficcy stuff his beloved winds up filling that role in his life (though not quite to the Stockholm syndrome level, but to somewhere between "bleeding heart" and "savior complex). Depending on who you ask "someone who needs rehabilitation and support" may or not include Curze himself. Noone ever asks "what would happen if Konrad Curze was thrown into the space equivalent of a Scandinavian prison and forced to watch lower re-offending rates while also being offered an army of therapists himself?" Even though that is both a very funny and somewhat plausible Konrad redemption au.

In canon? People (understandably) contrast Curze with Sanguinius and Corax (I was gonna write that the reason noone ever talked about what if Konrad was tutored by Corvus instead of Fulgrim like they do with Sanguinius was that Corvus, being second last, was found after Konrad, but Sanguinius was found after Konrad too?) But if were dealing with existing primarchs perhaps someone like Angron before he got the nails could fill the role or Vulkan. If one of the lost primarchs we could tie it to the theory of one/both of the lost primarchs being raised by/allying with xenos and handwave that their overly merciful nature lead to them forming a hippy civilization with the xenos and/or being a dormat.

i was prowling through Isabella's tag cos oml i love her (warhammer ocs my beloved <33) and i was wondering what's her relationship like with the rest of the companions from the game? i'd like to hear the dramas between her team if there is any lmao

Such a great question! I have to confess I was so lazer-focused on Heinrix explaining Iza’s mechanical traits to make sense narrative-wise, I paid little attention to the rest of the team, but I do have some bits!

I have to note, that companions from the 3rd chapter stayed in the 3rd chapter, so Iza didn’t collect all the pokemon. She maintains a good and respectful relationship with all the bridge officers, but her best man is High Factotum Janris Danrok, they spend hours discussing trade partners, contracts, and ship logistics.

But, back to the main team!

Abelard, my Abelard! They had some rough moments in the beginning when Iza felt like he tried to make her into Theodora's substitute and argued with him to insist on her position's duty and privilege. At the same time, she was checking his reactions to her actions and was relieved every time Abelard approved her. 

I think I already cracked this joke, but who’s gonna stop me? Abelard was in her team all the time along with Heinrix, and this is the most accurate picture of how the three of them looked: 

Ofc she did everything for Abelard’s family, and when he asked for retirement, she let him go on condition, that he would train his replacement personally because who could do it better then the best seneschal ever?

Idira was… intriguing. Too different from Iza in a matter of personality and life experience to seek her close friendship, Idira gained her eternal respect for surviving for so long for having the will strong enough to keep the chaotic mind of her in line. Well, most of the time.

And when her breakdown happened, Isabella stood for her. Said, everybody can slip and everybody deserves a second chance. Time proved her right when both of the sanctioned psykers of her team had their own moments of losing control, hehe.

Anyway, never a close friend but a friend indeed, and one of few people who understand, Idira had a place in Iza’s team to the very end of her life.

Argenta, with all the respect, makes Isabella feel uneasy. Reminds her that even though Isabella’s faith is strong, this alone might not be enough. (Ye, Iza sits on Iconoclast and Dogmatic chairs at the same time; she’s not too religious but she is a believer, which I think is close to heresy by WH40k standards anyway)

But gladly Argenta often stands up for protecting innocent people, and Isabella takes a breath of relief. 

i haven’t decided how to play through chapter 3 confession and its consequences yet, so sis is under development xD

Oh, oh, oh! Cassia is Isabella’s walking nightmare. Imagine yourself keeping your mental blocks 24/7 so as not to hear the noise of people's thoughts, and then meeting Cassia who casually floods you with her emotions. Isabella lost her shit during their first meeting.

Iza feels for Cassia, she really does, but she can not tolerate her presence for a long time. She tries her best for her navigator to feel welcomed onboard (look, you need to keep your Navi happy, all right), but mostly uses servants and Abelar as proxy people to communicate with Cass.

Why didn’t Iza change a navigator is a good question. I haven't found the answer yet.

Pasqal is complicated to understand, like most of admechs. Iza tries her best to know them better, but so far her best connection is Abel. She spends a lot of time talking with him.

But mostly she just agrees on all the Pasqal requests of equipment and lets him collect and study whatever he wants (N. included)

Everyone deserves a second chance in Iza’s book, but Jae used them all. The weight of her lies hit the critical mass at one point (remember, Janris Danrok is Iza’s bridge bestie). 

Isabella didn’t take away Jae’s papers (they didn’t fly half of the expanse looking for seals just not to take benefits of those papers) and didn’t end their partnership at all, but Jae was sent out of the flagship to do her business from some other spot.

With a warning, that if she abuses von Valancius name for some really dirty business, the consequences will be… final. Jae was smart enough to see the line this time.

I’m a bit pissed that the game doesn't help me with giving reasons to keep Yra after the 3rd chapter, so I don’t know why Isabella let her stay except for her “second chance” rhetoric. I’m figuring this out. 

I mean in the 3rd chapter it was pretty much “we need everyone to survive” thinking, but later… idk yet, maybe something something cooperation is better than war. Something something I want to understand how aeldari thinks. Something something Yrliet’s voice is so cool! xDD

But I know that Iza and Yra were traveling together a long time after the end of the game.

The peak of character drama happens in the Dark City when Heinrix Abelard Yrliet and Argenta sit in a circle and each of them holds their neighbors' hands to prevent them from killing the opposite sitting person, Pasqal trying to comprehend xenotech and Iza suffering in the background because someone stolen her fav boots.

spoilers for the end of rogue trader below I s2g hilz if you read this I'm gonna scream!!!

So I have thoughts about the final act of the game. It was a lot in a very short amount of time and it was fantastic, some things I guessed, but I at the time wrote down two large questions I ended up having that were never really answered for me? And I don't think they actually have answers, not because the writers don't know but because it's 40k, timelines and details like this are wiggly.

The first I wrote down I answered mostly for myself 'what did kunrad do to betray & disappoint theodora/was he actual her son?' and the answer is pretty simple; inquisition managed to embed itself fully into her shit, that's a big fuck up for a master of whispers. As for if he was her son? That I don't know that we'll ever know for sure, I want to kinda try to pay more attention this time, in the end it doesn't matter to the story, but I personally want to know?

Abelard says something about how long they were on board the ship together and I am gonna write that down. But I can see it both ways? Both that he was her son but she never had any intention of giving up her rule to him, this could leave him bitter/more likely to slip up. Or that he wasn't her son, and again finding an heir the decades before the game was something she was expected to do but didn't want to. Perhaps she plucked him from some other life and made his life better and thus he saw her as a 'mother' figure? Not sure.

The second I wrote down is a bit more... not at all something I expect to have answered, "How/why/when did Theodora get the chaos artifact/what was is?"

It was and wasn't an lens like we see used in game. The lenses we see in game have a specific way they function, and she claims to be able to be in two places at once with it. But wouldn't she need another lens somewhere on the ship to be able to do that? This I wondered if the artifact found on the lower decks might have been one of the lenses? I'll have to pay more attention but I do kinda wonder about that. It could just be she could see two places at once, not really, be two places at once, but it didn't sound like it.

She got the thing sometime after The Inquisitor took over for her on Epitaph. But how long had XC been in the Expanse? Again its 40k I'm sure they don't want firm timelines, but I want to know if it's decades vs. years vs. months? Was her hunting for new heirs/finding the lens just like... right before the game? This might be answered I just need another playthrough but I do not remember at all.

But OFC it comes back around to Heinrix, he says in the Expanse he's been working alone and doesn't even know if the others he'd worked with were alive. That is... interesting to me. Clearly XC didn't want him to know about Epitaph, and at first I really thought it was a sorta compartmentalization sort of thing, but I've been wondering if Calcazar thought Heinrix might undermine him/fuck up his plans. Because he doesn't just cut of Heinrix from his plans, he cuts Heinrix off entirely from the entire Inquisition(except Heinrix's own informant) and has him fucking around with the cult. His best acolyte, his absolute best Interrogator, the pysker he's trained up for decades, his second, just tossing him out to hunt a chaos cult and then to unnerve or spy on Theodora. While vitally important I'm sorta like... scratching my head at the timing of it all. Did Calcazar suspect what Theodora might find and put someone in her retinue to wait till they found it and then specifically NOT put Heinrix near? Because that's kinda what is seems like to me.

maybe DLC will make some of the timeline stuff make more sense to me but I kinda doubt it. But yeah right now I want to try and figure out more about Kunrad and Theodora, I hope with DLC we learn more about the two. (I OFC want tons more Heinrix but like... also other folks too)

Rogue Trader Character Building Questions (answered all of them)

Post in question. I actually did this on the 28th but just now cleaned it up some to post, info about crime lord/hiver/iconoclast Gema below the cut.

BACKGROUND:

1. Where are they from? What is their homeworld like? Do they miss it? An unspecified Hive World in the Calixis Sector(I feel like I’d be garbage at naming it and the star system). Her homeworld is one that is simply too hot for safe human habitation on the surface, but through sheer spite the Hives have developed in a manner of the richest below the hive the poorest in the hottest/most exposed areas. She misses nothing of her home world outside of her patron’s sprawling estates underground.

2. What is their Origin? Who were they before they became a Rogue Trader? Crime Lord and Hiver! Gema took control of her home Hive as a way to gain money and protection, hoping to have enough to ‘retire’/hide in an agriculture world. Gaining control of each Hive, and then the world in her system started with greed as the foundation, but eventually was a need to do better for the people who she saw herself in. Because before she became a criminal mastermind she was a scared abandoned child in a ruthless Hive baking in the light of the star who eventually became a petty thief to survive and got the attention of a crime syndicate’s leader.

3. Do they have a good relationship with their family? Who were they closest to growing up? Gema doesn’t know if she ever had any family, she doesn’t remember parents or anyone who claimed to be related to her until Theodora. She eventually learns through Heinrix looking through Kunrad’s files that her parents both died in a marble mining ‘accident’ where the Ecclesiarchy ordered part of the mine collapsed to hide an Artifact of Chaos when she was around four. She did recall the family name at least “Stubbs”.

4. What does their name mean? Is it significant? Gema doesn't know if it was ever meant to be longer or is just a reference to gems. Her mother named her simply because her parents assumed she would be a miner like them.

5. Describe a memory from childhood they think of fondly. Her first true theft, outside of rations and water was when she was five, it was a book of letters meant for a noble child much younger. She forced herself to learn how to read it and when she finally could, oh how the universe opened up to her.

CHARACTER & CONVICTIONS:

6. What is their Conviction? How adherent are they to it? Does it change at all over the course of the game? Iconoclast with a few dogmatic choices at the very beginning of the game(Rykad is rough), but outside of a few dogmatic choices here and there she sticks with Iconoclast.

7. Was there a defining moment in their life that influenced their Conviction? Being born into nothing, being trained to masquerade as a noble in her teens, then ruling an entire Star System well and how she fell from that height, left her shaken about everything. She still believes in The God-Emperor, but doesn’t think he can’t save her.

8. What was their Triumph? Do they take pride in it? Ruling an entire Star System, and she was proud of the work she was doing to change it’s fate but not what it cost her in the end. 

9. What was their Darkest Hour? How does it affect them today? Eight months before the start of the game Gema is hunted down by the Inquisition, a member of the Ordos Hereticus, and tortured, brutally, before being left for dead in a closet on the final world she’d conquered in her star system. She is terrified of Heinrix and the rest of the agents, but especially Calcazar. She also has completely given up hope in a way until Act 3 when she regains her will to fight for what she wants.

10. How do they feel about becoming a Rogue Trader? How easily do they take to being the head of the von Valancius dynasty? At the start of the game she is tired and scared and doesn’t see the point in being the Rogue Trader, or anything really. It isn’t until she refinds that fire in Commorragh that she begins to think about what she could do with what has been granted to her, isn’t until that moment that she starts caring about being a Rogue Trader. 

RELATIONSHIPS:

11. Who amongst their retinue are they closest to? Eventually Heinrix, but next to him I would say she’s closest at the start of the game to Abelard, Yrliet at the end. She and Yrliet face their trials and come out with a very solid foundation of trust. With no secrets between them. That her closest ally is a Xenos enrages Heinrix.

12. Who amongst their retinue do they clash with the most? Gema is careful not to truly clash with any of her retinue, but she doesn’t see eye to eye with Argenta due to her extreme faith, in Gema’s opinion. 

13. Are they romantically involved with anyone? Do they wish to be? Heinrix, and if Gema could have chosen she would not have chosen him to begin with. By late game she’d always choose him but until then internally she is pretty harsh on herself for liking him. 

14. Who was the most important person in their life prior to becoming a Rogue Trader? Is that person still in their life now? Lady Indomina, the daughter of her hive world’s Governor in her 60s, and head of its largest crime syndicate. When Gema was a child she killed several people to be able to be brought before her. Indomina called Gema her ‘pet waif’ and spent years building her up to be a perfect criminal and noble, and Indomina benefited greatly from Gema’s rule of the system. She ordered Gema brought to her after Gema’s torture, and without any benefit to herself ordered her rehabilitation.  She was left behind when Gema passed through the Maw, but Kunrad had found out she died before Gema finished the journey.

15. How do they feel towards Theodora? Had they met before? Were they close? Gema was mostly indifferent towards the woman, she’d never met her before and was exhausted by the idea of another Noble turning her into a pet project.

SKILLS & EXPERTISE:

16. What is their Archetype? Officer to Grand Strategist. But I think I will make her a Master Tactician in the future. 

17. What are their strengths in combat? What are their weaknesses? She is a deadeye shot, a fantastic sniper, outpaced only by Yrliet’s experience, but she is horrid up close. While she has a pistol and knife she panics and sees the man who tortured her in her mind often.  

18. How do they approach conflict? Do they tackle problems head-on, or is coercion favourable to them? Generally Gema would like to avoid combat, and is very good at arguing her point, but when it comes to Chaos she doesn’t budge at all. On this she and Argenta are eye to eye.

19. Which three skills are of the most value to them? Persuasion, Commerce and Awareness. She’s a talker and a finder.

20. Do they have a talent or hobby that would surprise others? Several, Indomina paid for her to be taught to play a harp, sing, and draw. She is able to play the role of a noble scion very well after Indomina spent a decade honing her into a weapon.

APPEARANCE & PERSONALITY:

21. Do they have any notable markings? Scars, birthmarks, tattoos, etc.? Gema actually had several tattoos denoting her rank in various gangs but Indomina had them all carefully removed. She ends up with a gnarly scar from Cassia’s paintbrush, but other than the tat that Nomos gives her, there is little to set her truly apart.  Her eyes are however very bright, almost glowing, yellow after her torture. 

22. Do they have any augmentations? Were these installed out of necessity, or as a cosmetic choice? Several but nothing external, Indomina’s goals weren’t clear to Gema, but the Lady had wanted Gema to either vanish back into the Hive or go on to play at another con and didn’t want her augments to give her away.

23. How do they hold themselves? Is the persona they show the world different to who they truly are? Who is privy to the ‘real’ them? She is more cunning than she generally lets on, and far more terrified of Heinrix than anyone but Heinrix knows. She puts on a brave face and tells lies of omission often to protect Nomos and herself through out the game, but post game drops the act entirely. Heinrix sees the fear for what it is, but it takes until after Epitaph for him to have Gema truly let him in on all her secrets.

24. Do they place value in how their protectorate sees them? Does this sway their decisions at all? She is pretty far past caring how others truly see her, but she isn’t above lying to calm the masses, or manipulation. Her hands are not clean by any stretch of the imagination.

25. Wildcard: Share a fun fact, random thought, or headcanon about them! While she’s had a few ‘romances’ to further her goals, and had sex(with multiple partners at once), Heinrix is her first actual ‘relationship’ and her last.

Restarted RT for my playthrough before the DLC comes out, we will see how unfair plays with the new changes. I will also do a new second archetype too, I think, blitz was really nice in that final fight tho.

BUT I am now using Gema's portrait I drew for her! It doesn't really match stylistically speaking, but that's okay, I just really wanted something that was especially made for her.
