uh oh i think my laptop's officially dead

i completely solved a cryptic crossword for the first time the other day! this is huge for me because i've always been so annoyed by them lol. but i kinda get it now, it is very satisfying to figure them out.
that said, there are several answers where i still do not totally understand the clues. if anyone who is familiar with cryptics (sometimes just called "crosswords" outside of the US) wants to help me out, i'd be very interested to hear your take!
this cryptic was in the 2022 puzzle mania edition of the nyt (released at the very end of the year), so if you are planning to solve it and haven't yet, i guess don't read this? lol. since i waited five months to do it i feel like that will apply to no one, but just in case.
i realized after drafting this post that the answer key is available online (here), but it did not actually answer my questions in every case, so i've kept my original text but added the answer key answer after each one in case it makes more sense to you than it does to me.
13A. Has misgivings about deception to an auditor (4): RUES. so "has misgivings about" is the definition of "rues". but i don't know what "deception to an auditor" is doing. could it have something to do with the fact that "rues" is a homonym and anagram of "ruse", a kind of deception? but i still can't figure out what "to an auditor" is for.
the answer key gives "homophone ruse" for this, so i guess i was right about the deception part, but i still don't get the auditor thing.
14A. A con almost grabs actor's awards left unbalanced (10): ASYMMETRIC. so EMMYS is hidden backwards in "asymmetric", which takes care of "actor's awards" and "left", and "asymmetric" means "unbalanced", i guess. so that leaves "A con almost grabs", along with the A and TRIC of the answer. i can't figure out how to make those relate to each other.
answer key says "a(symmE)trick – k (rev. Emmys)". fuck does that mean?? why are we subtracting the k? and i'm still not really sure what the con is there for?
26A. Concentrate for spare and strike (5): THINK. "concentrate" is the definition of "think". what is the "for spare and strike" doing??
answer key: "thin + K". okay i see how thin = spare but wherefore this K? does K stand for strike in baseball? that sounds vaguely familiar...
28A. African country returned Los Angeles family inheritance (7): SENEGAL. senegal is an african country, and it's also an anagram of angeles. i'm guessing the "returned" is a clue for the anagram? but what is "family inheritance" for? oh wait, senegal backwards is LA genes!! but then is it just a coincidence that "angeles" anagrams to "senegal", or is that indicated in the clue somewhere???
answer key: "rev. L.A. + genes". okay so it does sound like angeles being an anagram of senegal is a coincidence, or at least not covered in the clue?? seems like a missed opportunity but what do i know.
5D. Largely moderate Arizona city (5): TEMPE. tempe is a city in arizona. what's "largely moderate" doing here?
answer key: "temper – r". am i to understand that this is saying moderate = temper and the "largely" part of the clue is telling me to keep most but not all of "temper"?
#the big-ass american crossword was not that interesting i'm sorry to say. the actual solving was too easy and the logistics were#very annoying. it was so huge (four newspaper pages & almost 800 answers) i had to do it on the floor#which was uncomfortable#and looking up each clue in the list took so long because there were so many#i was interested to see how long it would take so i timed myself and it took me 2h04 (though it felt like it took 10 hours#based on how sore my neck and back and legs were lol)#and i could have finished in under 2 hours but i didn't realize that i didn't have to do anything special with the super mega words#in order to solve the crossword. like i figured out what the words were but putting them together according to the instructions#is only necessary for solving the metapuzzle and so could be done separately. so i wasted a few minutes trying to do that#the other puzzles were p cool except the word search bugged me for reasons that were mostly the fault of my own poor planning#but psy is a one-named singer!! so technically there were 8 one-named singers not 7!!!#i actually haven't solved the metapuzzle final answer yet#i have all but one of the letters but then they have to be put in order and i have no ideas for what the order is supposed to be#cruciverbs#my posts#but anyway very exciting that i solved a cryptic for the first time! maybe now i can get past my mental block about them

#amicus.txt#for a really long time now ive felt really low abt my art bc ive been dealing with a lot of wrist pain when i draw traditionally#which has p much been the only medium i draw in#but since using a mouse is much less intensive for me than a pencil and paper i figured i could probably do somethiing with that right#i had gotten the idea to just use the polygon tool on my art program since thats what i would do to digitalize my trad art#at least for the colors and stuff#i was like 'its gonna require pretty much learning how to draw again from scratch since its entirely different#but if i put in the practice and the time and be patient i might be able to do it'#but i was putting that off for SO long. really difficult to get started on practice like that yknow#until like 10 minutes ago. where i was just like 'ok whatever its gonna look like shit but lets just try to get a feel for it'#so i just use the polygon tool thing and try and make one of my ocs#and then i took a step back and like.#holy shit that looks adorable? wait thats really good?#like yeah theres a ton of room for improvement obviously but like. holy shit this might actually be possible way sooner than i thought#“this” being. making my webcomic

i'm going to reward myself for doing one project on time by doing another project that i've been neglecting
#i have like. a 10 page paper i haven't even made a thesis for. oops#and a 5-10 page paper on a personality disorder which i have yet to choose or start#but i'm feelin obsessive compulsive. maybe. or narcissistic#idk personality disorders are hard to choose bc i don't really trust them as a diagnostic tool#well. kinda#there's so much overlap and confusion in the dsm that i don't think they're understood enough and that#the lines drawn between them are the best way to separate them#it's a whole thing but whatever i'll just pick whichever speaks to me#and oh fuck i have a fucking wrongful convictions final paper that i totally forgor about lmao#damnnnnn i have shit to do#and they're still assigning busywork. by they i mean my art history professor who wants us all dead. she's assigning weekly papers till#the final day. why. they're like. 3 pages minimum and i know she has too many classes to be reading/grading that many#she's still weeks behind. why do you do this to yourself? why do you do this to us?#ugh. i shouldn't have taken italian renaissance this semester but i was made for bad impulsive choices#anyway. i will be sharing my presentation with you all later. it's gorgeous i prommy#she took 10 minutes to load in the assignment dropbox#that's how you know she's good :)

Thought I’d get out for the night, so I’ve been sitting in this gaming lounge for the last hour and it’s… meh. Ordered an overpriced milkshake, just kind of hanging out. Honestly, I’d rather play games by myself at home than deal with whatever’s going on here. Well… it was worth a shot 😒

oh my god i just watched the strange aeons video on the hivliving scandal and i am… truly astonished. i had heard about this when i happened even though i was never in the hamilton fandom. i had heard that everything was fake, but WOW—i did not realize how deep it went. leave it to a rich, white hamilton stan to racefake and lie about her HIV status online for multiple years so that she could roleplay oppression. it’s so predictable. I still have 5 hours left in my shift 😭😭😭
#I just….#really wanna go home today#not having a good day. I started my period this morning and then I got to work and found out only me and one other opener were there but our#opening manager wasn’t here yet so she was late and we spent the next 20 minutes rushing to get everything set up before we opened#and then we immediately started getting customers and it’s just been busy and I’m tired and just don’t feel good bc of my period#and then so far I’ve had 2 of my least favorite customers come through the drive thru where I’m working#one is this dude who’s just fucking annoying another is the guy that asked for my number a few months ago who I haven’t seen since I turned#him down so I took his order and then made someone else deal with him at the window#and then it got busy with everyone ordering drinks like hot coffees which meant I had to walk from our drive thru out to the lobby bc my#coffees were out bc everyone wants coffee today but when I would do that I would still have to be taking orders#and then someone cleared a few specialty coffees off the barista screen without making them while the person was sitting in the drive thru#so I had to make those while doing other stuff too and people were asking me questions#and I was just getting very overstimulated and annoyed plus I’m hungry#and I just want to leave and go home and sleep but it’s my best friend’s birthday so she’s probably gonna want to do something later but I#just don’t feel up to it and I know she’s probably ready to hang out because she’s been off for 10 days with Covid so she’s well rested now#for her birthday but 😭😭😭 I just want to crash into my bed so hard and not wake up until noon tomorrow#also the coworker I work with every day and don’t like is here today unfortunately#and also all of the speakers we use to play music in the back are dead right now and I just want to play music#first world problems but I have so little patience today

Ugh man I am so not looking forward to work tomorrow
#My coworker didn’t show up today#and I know it’s bc she’s pissed#and I’m p sure it’s at me#and I know I haven’t been pulling my weight properly but also we’ve been like.. steady#not insanely busy#so she doesn’t need to go as hard as she does. I do what’s required of me#and on Wednesday she froze me out bc I didn’t immediately hop up to print versa and I made her do it#but it wasn’t fucking unreasonable of me to do that bc I only had /6/ to print#which probably took her like a total of 10 extra minutes#whereas she had So So Many#and idk how it worked out like that bc last week /I/ did it bc I had an INSANE amount of them to print#and it took me MORE THAN SIX FUCKING HOURS#she was gone for Three MAX and she was so pissed off at me#like??? Idek what to say??? I’m sorry???? I didn’t pass those orders by Adrianne /YOU/ just happened to take them#just like last week I happened to get orders for HUNDREDS of versa#I’m OBVIOUSLY not just passing by the versa orders#IT WAS LUCK#and guess what I got like 4 approved today#IT WAS GODDAMN LUCK#Anyways I did most of her approvals today and we are still caught up so I hope she doesn’t bitch at me tomorrow#I KNOW she’s just stressed but I’m gonna be real I was already barely holding it together at work on Wednesday#bc I got the news that my dog was dying the day before#like I /did/ cry on my lunch. #i feel sooooo proud for someone who's 21 and should know how to use excel better#ramble#basically i had like. a graph. showing the dependence between the angle of light polymerization and sacharose concentration#it was in a report i had already submitted but the teacher said it was shit and among other things i had to add the equation and R^2 to the-#-graph. which like ok no big deal. so i did it rn and im all happy#but then i look at the graph. already pasted into ms word and all. and i look at the values. then the equation#and im like what the fuck#cause the dependence was like e.g. 5% sacharose to 3.9 angle. or 20% to 13.7#and the trend line equation said y=62.028x+0.3484#??????#how the fuck#i searched through google and nothing. re-did the line multiple times. nothing#guess what. guess fucking what.#turns out since i wrote the concentration in % it interpreted the values as percents. so 0.05 instead of 5💀#fixed it and voila#but bruh💀 i didn't SET the values as percentages i just wrote them in stylistically and thought it wouldnt do anything bc it never does#it also took me way too long to figure it out (like 10 minutes) but im so bad at tech this feels like a victory
