#who worked with his dad in contracting+renovations

As someone who was absolutely thriving while watching episode 5 and being a huge fan of Alastor being a dad/mentor/godfather figure to Charlie, I think one thing needs to be made clear: Alastor doesn't see her as his daughter. He is, however, meant to slowly warm up to the idea of the Hotel and to the people living it. The thing that holds the audience back from fully grasping that idea is the show's pacing. As Al continues to be the best-written character in the show, I wanted to focus more on his motivation and actions in light of the events of episode 5, while also being aware of how much work the audience has to do to fill in the gaps created by the show's writing.
Tumblr media
As fun and entertaining as the idea of Charlie and Alstor having this kind of bond is, it is not without its flaws.
Where did this idea of Al being supportive of Charlie's idea even come from? Obviously, the pilot. The Radio Demon shows up at the doorstep and offers his aid. He claims he's doing it for himself, but hey, he's still helping, right? Well, technically. The moment the Princess asks him if he believes in her cause, he laughs it off. He doesn't support her dream and does not necessarily want to make the Hotel work in the sense that he would like to see it succeed. Alastor is fully convinced it's a lost cause - hard work that doesn't pay off. He wants to see it function. He wants ongoing entertainment in the form of sinners failing to redeem themselves. Well, he doesn't get to watch that much if you look at how much redeeming there's actually going on it the show.
Tumblr media
He provides the staff, renovates the building, even gives it its official name, and agrees to make the commercial to promote the establishment. The only issue he has with the last thing is the form of the promotion. If Charlie asked for a radio advertisement, he would definitely go out of his way to make it appealing. Would it actually work? Who knows? Probably not much, and we need to remember that no one can be forced or manipulated to stay at the Hotel.
Let's stop here for a moment, though. Now that we know that someone (Lilith... or maybe Eve, but let's leave that for another post) has Alastor on a leash, we can take a different look at the Demon offering Vaggie his help with the commercial. He was most likely sent to help with the establishment because Lilith does want to see Charlie's idea work. Alastor's contract most likely requires him to help and protect Lilith's daughter. Still, he wants to do it on his own terms. So the only requirement he makes is that he will not be involved with television in the future, even if it would help the cause.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we face our first problem. This is everything he does for the Hotel in the show. There is literally nothing more we see him do due to the limited number of episodes. We don't even see Charlie and Alastor talk. The last time they had a proper conversation was in the pilot.
Now, here we can notice what made people see Alastor as Charlie's father/mentor figure. In the pilot episode, and especially during his song number, Alastor goes out of his way to touch Charlie and even dances with her. He makes the building look more appealing, showing the owner he's capable of making her dream come true. He does that again episode 5.
Vivzie did say they have a good relationship. The Radio Demon actually likes Charlie's personality and appreciates her artistic talents. Unfortunately, we don't see it in the show itself. We just fill this gap by ourselves. If you want to understand better, put yourself in the shoes of a person who only saw the pilot, which is becoming less and less canon now, and immediately started watching the show without any behind-the-scenes information. Ask your friends to watch this show, like I did, and you'll see what the issue is.
But back to the main topic. Personally, I see Alasto as more of Charlie's (fairy) godfather. Just like the fairy in Cinderella's story, Alastor uses his powers to make the protagonist's dreams come true. He fulfills her requests, like the commercial, but adds his own twists, like the Hotel's name and the deal with Vaggie. I still remember he doesn't actually care about the cause, but it's still entertaining to see him working. Well, again, it would be, because we don't really see him doing that in the show itself.
Tumblr media
So, time passes and Lucifer shows up. Now, if looks could kill, this episode would last less than 5 minutes. Alastor IMMEDIATELY hates Hell's boss. His eye starts twitching the moment he hugs Charlie. I would even argue the way he smiles while observing the preparations is much more sinister. He knows who's coming and he doesn't like it.
Tumblr media
It doesn't take long before these two start their petty argument. I've seen people come up with a few main ideas for Al's pettiness towards Lucifer:
He hates that yet another power figure didn't recognise him. Partially. We know that Alastor's ego can be easily hurt. He's been gone for seven years and still thinks he's all that. Sure, he's still powerful, and he proves that in the episode, but he's not as relevant as he thinks he is. There is one issue with that argument, though. This is the first time these two meet, and Alastor shows his aversion to Lucifer the moment he arrives. I would say Charlie's father not recognising the Radio Demon just adds insult to the injury.
Alastor had an abusive father, and he hates Lucifer for acting similarly. Possibly. If we want to fill the gaps ourselves again or treat it as a headcanon. We don't know much about Al's childhood, only that he had a good relationship with his mother. If that is the case, we have yet to see it in the show.
Lucifer is the reason why Alastor is on Lilith's leash. Now, that's more likely. My guess is that after losing to Vox, Al made a deal with Lilith and the two of them were gone for 7 years. We have yet to learn what they were doing, but Lilith eventually sent the Radio Demon to help her daughter, while he saw his return as a chance to reestablish his position in Hell's hierarchy. Now, one could argue that was not necessarily hinted at in the episode as well, and I do agree. Yet, I do believe this is the most likely answer, as it would fit the plot and is the most likely part of Al's character to be explored in the future.
Alastor sees Lucifer as a threat to his work/an obstacle. That's an idea that popped into my head recently, and it's strongly connected to the previous theory. Alastor definitely knew that Charlie's dad was… not very supportive of her work. If he somehow managed to dissuade her, it would mean the Demon failed to fulfil his task/hold his end of the deal. It would not only absolutely ruin his ego but also have contract-related consequences.
I think we may explore this issue the future if the show is given a chance to do so. For now, I believe it's safe to say that the main reason for Alastor's aversion is his contract and personality.
But why the pettiness? Why the whole act about being Charlie's biggest supporter? Because Alastor is petty. His ego is quite fragile. We saw that when Carmilla dismissed his return or when Husk warned him about Mimzy. Just like Lucifer, he doesn't believe in Charlie's cause, but Lucifer makes Alastor's aversion even stronger by just straight-up insulting him and his work.
Tumblr media
And if Al is willing to send a guy flying because of a coat (that's already torn at the bottom mind you), he's absolutely going to put such a person in their place. The thing is, he can't. Not in this case. We're talking about the King of Hell. Despite his mental state, he's still more powerful than any overlord. We can joke about Vox wishing to have this kind of rivalry with Alastor, but we do see the Radio Demon and the Fallen Anger going head-to-head during their song number. But if Lucifer is so powerful, how can Alastor "beat" him? Simple, by manipulation.
Here we come to the whole father-daughter relationship issue. Everything Alastor does and says is intended to piss off Lucifer. He keeps touching Charlie and talks to her in a way we have only seen during the song number in the pilot. While he does that, he gives her biological father a sinister look any chance he gets. "See? I'm winning. I can give her whatever she wants. In her eyes, I'm just like you if not better."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, we need to remember that Charlie is fully aware of Alastor's intentions. She knows he's aiding her for selfish reasons, so why isn't she completely taken aback by his sudden flow of affection and praise? Because it's Charlie we're talking about. In episode 3, she "confessed" that she loves the Hotel residents despite not being that close with them in the first place, and, well, she does have daddy issues. Whenever Alastor looks at her during the song, it feels like he's forcing Charlie to believe what he says and does. The Radio Demon is truly giving the Princess everything her father has failed to provide, and she falls for it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember, Alastor enjoyed watching children suffer after the Stock Market Crash of 1929. He is not a father material. Mentor? Sure. Father? Definitely not. That's why it feels so weird when he says he wishes he had a child of his own. He has never acted this way toward Charlie. He is willing to say anything to make her and Lucifer believe his intentions because he simply wants to win this argument, and he just happens to be in a position that allows him to exploit other people's insecurities.
Tumblr media
It makes sense, right? It sure does if we apply the suspension of disbelief notion here. Again, we haven't seen Alastor do any of the things he mentions in the song. The last time he and the Princess talked was in the pilot. We just assume they get along. I think this is especially visible when we stop to think about the fight near the end of the episode. Charlie claims Alastor is protecting the Hotel. It definitely looks like it at first, and we could argue that this is something he signed up for. However, Alastor basically admits that for him, this is a chance to show everyone why he still should be feared. He treats this as an opportunity for a power display. Not because he cares about the Hotel. The writers WANT us to believe that's the case by making Alastor send Mimzy away right after the fight is over. Nothing indicates he cares more about the Hotel. That's why people are not sure if we should treat Alastor's talk with Mimzy seriously.
Tumblr media
The show has already done that before, especially in episode 3 with Carmnilla and Vaggie. We know nothing of these two, and we are just supposed to bond with them and understand their way of thinking and actions. Some of that is even in episode 4, when Husk says what everyone's main deal is - Sir Pentious being insecure, Vaggie hating herself, Charlie wanting to resolve other people's problems instead of her own, and Angel Dust putting on an act. We haven't seen any of those people, besides Angel, talk to Husk before, and there was very little time to establish whether all those issues were actually the case. The only reason why we can believe Husk is because we know all that information from the crew, wiki trivia, and because the episode proves Husk was partially right about Angel, whose character act is probably the second-best established one in the show. We know we're meant to fill in the gaps, but there are moments when we're just confused once we turn on critical thinking.
So, Al's argument with Mizmzy is supposed to feel like he's starting to care more about the Hotel because Charlie tells us so and because we can guess that this is most likely Alastor's main character act. Paradoxically, the reason it's not so clear-cut is not just Hazbin Hotel's bad pacing, but Alastor being the best-written character in the show. We learn more and more about him, but there is still some mystery to his motivation. It is never laid out for us like it is with Vaggie (damn, she really is getting the short end of the stick). We're never told, "Hey, this is his deal".
Tumblr media
This show is genuinely held back by its format. The writers pick the best, most relevant moments and put them together to create a narrative that ultimately feels incomplete. Interestingly, I think the people who realise it (and are not out there to absolutely tear the show down) are not exactly mad but disappointed. They tend to feel ambivalent or find it hard to care about the characters unless they choose to ignore the missing parts. I believe the show's redeeming qualities, like the voice acting, songs, and its heroes' personalities, make the problems easier to handle, but that doesn't change the fact that it's simply getting more and more frustrating.
Nowadays, writers are left with two choices: severely changing their story or opting for bad writing/pacing to fulfil their vision. Hazbin Hotel's creators clearly went for the second option. We don't know what exactly was changed because of the budget and the show's format, but the main premise is just not present in the series. We're not observing much redeeming, and the whole deal with Heaven feels like a season 2 plot idea. Are the writers doing their best with what they have? It depends on what we consider "doing your best." Personally, I understand they want to make the series entertaining. They want people to be intrigued and interested in the premise, but the execution is just hopeless. Just because you can do more doesn't mean you should. What looks good on paper is not always going to work in a different medium. Show, don't tell.
Tumblr media
You can't expect the audience to fill in the gaps for your sake all the time. What you think is intriguing may be just another reason for people to realise how lacklustre your creation is.
I know it sounds like I'm just blaming the crew, but I am fully aware that they're not Benioff and Weiss. They would absolutely accept more episodes. Just like with Charlie, their efforts are futile when they're not fully in control. Still, that doesn't change the fact that the final outcome is deeply flawed. As an audience, we can't just keep saying, "Well, they wanted to do more, but the studios didn't let them." Yes, that is the whole problem. Yes, studios shouldn't have so much power over someone's creation. Hazbin Hotel's writers are trying their best, but not with the pacing. They are making everything else redeem the issues with the story progression. While the show is genuinely enjoyable, it is mainly so when you, as a viewer, decide to turn a blind eye to the pacing. When you convince yourself that as long as something fun and plot-relevant happens, the show is well-written. I don't want Hazbin Hotel to be perfect. I want it to realize that some things should be prioritised.

Joel stops eating lunch with you after that day in the kitchen. You try not to let it affect you, but you miss him. You miss the easy conversation and the way he makes you laugh without even trying. It’s hard to focus on studying with him constantly on your mind, especially when he’s so close but just out of reach.
A few days pass without any interaction with him at all. He comes inside and immediately heads upstairs and the only reason you even know he’s there is the heavy footsteps above your head.
So you’re surprised when one day he comes downstairs and heads straight towards you, stopping a respectable distance away. He clears his throat and runs a hand nervously through his hair.
“Sarah’s daycare just called. I forgot it was a half day for them, I gotta go pick her up,” he says. “I’ve got grout mixed upstairs. I’ll come back as soon as I can, but I’ll have to see if Tommy can come watch her.”
“Oh. Why don’t…you can just…bring her here? I can watch her, if you need,” you reply. He stops his nervous fidgeting, hands dropping to his side.
“Really?” He asks. “You don’t have to do that, I don’t want to interrupt your studyin’.”
“Not getting much done today, anyways,” you say pointedly. He presses his lips together.
“Right. Well, uh, if you’re sure. I’ll go get her now.”
“Why don’t you give me your cell number. You can call me if you change your mind and are going to take longer getting back here,” you suggest.
He nods, digging his phone from his pocket and handing it to you. You pass him yours from the table. After entering your number, you exchange devices again. You check your contacts, biting back a smile seeing the entry titled “Joel (contractor)”.
As if you wouldn’t know who he was.
“Okay, well. I’ll be back,” he says, heading out the door with a lingering look.
————
Sarah is sitting in her car seat, asking Joel a thousand questions about where they’re going.
“Daddy’s gotta work, sweetheart. But I’ve got a very nice friend who’s goin’ to watch you while he’s busy,” he explains. “We’re going to her house.”
“Oh. Does she have toys?” She asks.
“I’m not sure. She might.”
“I hope so. Does she have snacks?”
“Probably.”
Her questions continue in the same manner until he pulls into your driveway. She frees herself from her car seat and hops from the truck, running to the front door faster than Joel can catch up. She’s bouncing excitedly on the balls of her feet as he pushes the door open, but she clings to his arm as he enters the hallway.
Joel checks the kitchen but finds it empty. He calls out your name.
“In the living room!” You shout back.
He’s surprised to find you surrounded by a couple large storage totes, digging through one and pulling out another box stuffed with what looks like fabric. You look up when they enter and smile brightly.
“Hi! You must be Sarah,” you say to his little girl, giving her your name as well. “Do you like Barbie dolls?”
Sarah nods, her grip loosening from her dad’s arm as you start to pull some Barbie dolls from one bin. Joel watches you tell his daughter about how they’d been yours when you were her age, and that they’re very excited to have someone play with them again. You open the box of clothes and accessories, Sarah’s face lighting up at all the options.
Watching you with his daughter feels like a fist to the gut. You’re so attentive and kind, patiently explaining the different dolls to her and their backstories that he just can’t look away.
It’s not until you look up at him and your smile falters the slightest bit that he clears his throat and says, “Alright, sweetie, you all good here?”
“Yes, daddy,” she says dutifully, focused on changing the outfit on one of the dolls you’d given her.
“I’ll be upstairs if you need anything,” he says, more to you than to Sarah. You only nod in response.
He trudges up the stairs with a lump in his throat and a vise grip around his heart.
_______
Sarah might just be the best kid you’ve ever met. She’s smart and funny, making up the silliest stories for the Barbie’s to act out. You can see why Joel is such a softie for her.
“Do you have anything else we can play with?” She asks after about an hour of playing with the dolls.
“Why don’t we head outside?” You ask, picking the toys up off the floor.
“Okay! Can I show you my cartwheel?” She asks, jumping up from the floor and trailing after you towards the back door.
“Uh, absolutely!”
She runs full speed out the sliding glass door, bypassing the pool and heading straight for the grassy yard beyond. “Watch! Watch!” She calls out to you as she plants her hands to the ground and shows off her cartwheel.
“Wow, that’s awesome, Sarah!” You call out. You dig in the pool storage and pull out a forgotten soccer ball that you’re pretty sure has been in there since high school. It’s a little flat, but it’ll do.
Sarah continues to do cartwheels through the yard while you kick the ball around. She catches sight of what you’re doing and runs over to join, watching as you demonstrate some of the footwork from high school sitting in the recesses of your mind.
Sarah eventually starts to complain about being hungry, so you head back inside to set up a snack for her. “Give me one second, sweetie, I’ll be right back.”
You jog up the stairs and head to your parent’s room. Joel’s wiping the excess grout from the shower tile he’s just laid when you tap on the doorframe to get his attention. He looks up at you in surprise, dropping the wet sponge in the bucket and standing.
“Hey. I was just about to make a snack for Sarah and I wanted to make sure she doesn’t have any allergies or anything?” You ask. He stares at you for a moment before taking a step closer, hand wrapping around the back of your neck and tugging your lips to his.
You’re surprised but your traitorous body responds before your brain can, your lips moving hungrily against his as you wrap your arms around his shoulders. He presses you back against the door frame, his calloused and slightly damp hands coming up to grip your face and angling it to his liking. His tongue slips past your lips and tangles with yours, making you whimper.
He pulls away all too soon, smoothing a hand against your hair as he stares into your eyes, his breathing quick and labored.
“No…no allergies,” he finally says. You huff out a laugh.
“Right…you could have just said that,” you joke. He cracks a smile.
“Get back downstairs. I’ll be done soon.”
________
Joel tried to do the respectable thing. He really did. He was going to let that one slip up be left in the past, move on with a perfectly normal working relationship. No more lunches, no more lingering in the doorway to talk to you when he comes in the morning and you’re still sleepy, sipping your coffee that’s more sugar than anything. No more after dark thoughts of you as he lays in bed palming his cock. Just him and the bathroom remodel.
But then you’d offered to look after Sarah, and you could have easily stuck her in front of the TV while you went about your day, but you gave her your undivided attention. He’d watched from the window as you showed her some fancy soccer footwork that he didn’t even know you knew how to do. You cheered for her when she landed six cartwheels in a row and then laughed when she crashed to the ground, dizzy and giggling. He’d watched you run around the yard with her on your back, a pool noodle held in her hand as she commanded you to charge forward.
And just like it always does when it comes to you, the weak walls of his resolve crumble around him.
To top it all off, you came upstairs to ask him the most innocent but thoughtful question and goddamnit, he can’t do this. He had to kiss you.
Now that you’re no longer standing in front of him, the logical part of his brain kicks back on and the guilt returns. What the hell is expecting out of this? He’s here temporarily, for a job, and so are you. You’ll return to school at the end of the summer and he’ll be here…what? Pining after a girl fifteen years his junior who could have any number of men her age falling at her feet?
Joel scrubs a hand over his face. Much as he hates to admit it, he’s going to have to man up and have a real conversation about all this. He pulls his phone from his pocket and shoots a text to Tommy to see if he can come over and keep an eye on Sarah tonight after she goes to bed.
________
Joel comes down about thirty minutes later and Sarah runs towards him, throwing her arms around his legs and hugging me tightly.
“We had so much fun, daddy! She watched me do all my cartwheels and we played calgary!”
You snort. “Cavalry, sweetie,” you correct.
“That!” She exclaims. Her head tilts back to look up at her dad with big brown eyes so full of love it makes your stomach flip.
“It sounds like you had a great day, baby,” Joel says, running a hand over her curly brown hair. “It’s time we head out.”
She pouts and Joel hits her with a look that’s so quintessentially dad that you have to bite back a laugh. The young girl sighs dramatically before stomping out of the room towards the front door.
Joel reaches a hand out towards you and you step forward, slipping your hand into his. “Can I come over later? To talk?” He asks quietly, fingers tangling with yours.
“S-sure,” you reply. He gives you one last nod before he lets go of your hand, heading out the door after Sarah.
_______
Tommy comes over around 8:00 that evening, after Sarah’s in bed following another chapter of James and the Giant Peach. He lets himself in, joining Joel in the kitchen where he’s cleaning up after dinner.
“Where ya off to this late, old man?” Tommy asks, opening the freezer and peering inside. “No ice cream?”
“Get outta my fridge,” Joel snaps, whacking him with the dish towel in his hands. “And none of your business, nosy lil shit.”
Tommy holds his hands up in surrender. “Geez, touchy.”
“I’ll be back in a few hours. Don’t go riflin’ through the pantry, either, I already hid the cookies.”
Tommy’s annoyed groan follows him out the door. In the truck, he finds your name in his contacts and opens a new text thread.
On my way.
_______
Your phone chimes on the coffee table, screen lighting with a message notification from Joel letting you know he’s on his way. It’s the first time he’s ever contacted you by phone, and you smile down at the brand new text thread despite the dry, no nonsense message.
You fight the urge to reply, fidgeting in your seat with nerves. You have nothing else to focus your attention on as you wait for Joel to show up. You’ve already cleaned up after dinner and your second glass of wine sits on the coffee table. You’ve changed into your pajamas, a pair of sleep shorts and an oversized UT t-shirt you’d stolen from an ex-boyfriend.
The man himself puts you out of your misery with a soft knock at your front door. You open it to find Joel standing there in another pair of jeans, dark wash instead of the light wash work pair he usually wears, and a soft looking flannel, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his jeans.
“Hey,” he says, shifting his weight from foot to foot. His eyes roam your body, every place they linger tingling under his gaze. “Can I come in?”
“Oh, yeah, of course. I’m surprised you didn’t just use the key.”
“Key is for the job. This ain’t part of the job.”
“Right,” you mumble, trailing behind him as he heads for the kitchen. “You want anything to drink? I’ve got beer.”
“Sure.”
You grab a can from the fridge and carry it with you to the living room, setting it beside your glass of wine on the coffee table. You take a seat, folding your legs under you. Joel stands near the doorway, like he’s not sure whether to sit or make an escape.
Finally, he joins you on the couch, a healthy cushion length of distance between your bodies. He smooths his palms over his thighs before grabbing the can of beer and popping the top.
“So…you want to talk?” You ask, breaking the tense silence. He sighs.
“I wanted to apologize. For what happened the other day,” he says, staring at the can of beer like it’ll say the words for him. “I shouldn’t have left you like that. After.”
You remain quiet. It had been shitty, getting left behind, all the adrenaline leaving your body and making you feel untethered. You’d cleaned yourself up and hidden in your room the rest of the afternoon, curled up in your bed.
“I don’t know what I’m doin’ here,” he confesses.
“Sure felt like you knew what you were doing,” you comment. Your smile is smug as you watch his cheeks heat.
“What I mean is,” he continues, throwing you a sharp look that reminds you of the one he’d used on Sarah that afternoon, “I don’t know what you’d want with a guy like me, baby. You’re goin’ back to school in a month, you’ve got dreams and goals I couldn’t touch with a ten foot pole, and you’re just a kid—“
“Don’t call me kid, Joel. I’m a grown fuckin’ woman, and I don’t need you making choices for me out of your own guilt.”
Joel clenches his jaw, his grip on the can of beer going tight enough to dent the aluminum.
“I don’t feel guilty about wanting you, Joel. I don’t know why you’re making such a big deal about it. We don’t have to define anything, we just…go at this with no rules. See what happens.” You shuffle closer to him, walking across the cushions on your knees until you’re kneeling beside him.
“No rules?” He asks. You can practically taste your victory.
You lean closer, bringing your palm up to turn his face towards you, his lips parting slightly as his eyes search yours.
“No rules,” you whisper.
________
This didn’t go at all as Joel had planned. He’d been intent on coming over here, apologizing for his behavior, and explaining that he wouldn’t be sending you any further mixed signals. That all of this had to stop.
But instead, he’s wrapping an arm around your waist and hauling you into his lap, his lips pressed to yours to swallow your gasp. His hands shift the long hem of your shirt out of his way so that he can grip your ass and drag you closer.
Your fingers find the buttons of his shirt, fumbling to get them undone. Your mouth leaves his to plant kisses to his jaw and down his neck, your teeth nipping as you go. Joel groans your name, his hips flexing as you push apart his shirt to expose his chest to your greedy hands.
Your nails scrape down his pecs, catching on his nipples and making him hiss, his head dropping back against the back of the couch.
Your weight leaves his lap and he looks up, ready to complain and haul your ass back where it belongs. But you’re dropping to your knees between his spread legs and looking up at him through your lashes as your hands smooth up his thighs.
“I want you in my mouth, Joel,” you tell him, voice pitched low. “I think about it a lot. What it would be like to suck your cock.”
“God, baby, I think about it, too,” Joel confesses, hips thrusting as you undo his belt and fly. He helps you shove his pants down far enough that his cock springs free, slapping lewdly against his stomach. “Put your mouth on me, sweetheart.”
Joel should have known you wouldn’t make this easy. You don’t listen to his plea. Instead, you wrap your delicate little hand around his throbbing length and give it a few leisurely pumps that have him gritting his teeth.
Then, holding his dick steady, you lean forward to grace him with just one little kitten lick to his head, tongue swiping through the bead of precum that’s already pooled at the slit. Your eyelids flutter and you hum appreciatively and Joel has to fucking will himself not to come all over your pretty face.
“You’re such a lil fuckin’ tease, aren’t ya,” he bites out. You give him your most saccharine smile, the mischievous glint in your eye unmistakable.
He places a hand on your head, fingers flexing against your scalp but not pressing or directing. No, this is your show and he knows that.
You lick up the underside of his cock before finally, finally taking him into your mouth. He groans at the sensation, the tight wet heat the best thing he’s ever felt.
At least for now.
You show him no mercy, taking him as far back into your throat as you can before coming up for air and circling the head with your tongue before diving back down. You gag a couple times, each time making your throat tighten around the head of his cock and making him moan out your name.
Joel catches movement below and lifts his head further to see your hand wiggle its way into those little sleep shorts you’re wearing. “Are you wet, baby? Did you soak yourself just sucking my cock?”
You nod, mouth too full to respond with words. You look so goddamn pretty with your mouth stretched around his thick length, your lashes wet with tears.
“You wanna come with me, sweet girl?” You nod. “Listen to me, then. Slide just one finger into that pretty cunt for me, okay?”
You nod again, doing as you’re told. He can’t see anything past this giant t-shirt you’re wearing and he growls in frustration.
“Bet that feels good, huh, darlin’? Ridin’ your fingers with my cock stuffed down your throat. Add another finger for me, that’s it.” You moan around his length, the vibrations nearly sending him over the edge.
“Can you take a third finger for me? We gotta get you nice and stretched if you’re gonna take my cock someday soon.” You give a little whimper as your motions pause while you work a third finger into your pussy. “That’s it, Christ, you look like fuckin’ sin, sweetheart.”
Eyes shut, you work your hand in the same rhythm as your mouth. When you start to get sloppy, Joel begins to thrust into your mouth.
“Focus on yourself, that’s it. You just worry about makin’ yourself come all over your fingers and I’ll worry about fillin’ this gorgeous fuckin’ mouth.”
With your other hand free, you use it to rub fast circles on your clit. It only takes Joel a few shallow thrusts before he’s spilling down your throat and you’re swallowing around him as you reach your own peak and crash through the ecstasy.
Joel waits until your limbs start to go limp before hauling you back into his lap, wrapping his arms around you in a tight hug.
“Wow,” you mumble against his shoulder, making him grin. You pull back to look at him and Joel hates the bit of fear hiding in the back of your gaze. “You don’t…have to leave right now, right?”
“No, baby, I can stay with you a bit longer.”
Joel’s fingers scratch lightly down your back, making you wiggle appreciatively. He fiddles with the hem of your shirt.
“Where’s this shirt from?” He asks innocently.
“Oh, it’s an ex’s shirt,” you murmur sleepily. Joel hums.
“Maybe I have one rule,” Joel says just as you’re nodding off.
“Hmm?”
“We’re getting rid of this fuckin’ shirt.”

cursed modern human garashir au where ds9 is an old ruined resort that was built by some evil rich motherfuckers years ago and was recently seized back by the native people whose land and economy it had destroyed. it's since been converted into an affordable apartment complex sort of situation (just... with a pool, bar, restaraunts, spa and tennis court built into it lol) and is run by sisko and kira. since it is rundown, odo gets hired back on to keep kids from further vandalizing it and o'brien's team gets hired on from the nonprofit organization sisko works for to fix the place up best he can. dukat is the old overseer of the property who drops by sometimes to remind them he and his hospitality business still exist, and my, what a fine job they’ve done renovating the place! it’s actually nice again. sure would be a shame if someone bought the property out from under them (lmao jk kardasi hospitality and starfleet are friends! no hard feelings. they should collaborate on some future projects, actually).
garak's a sad bitch who just lost his amazing morally dubious nepotism career at obsidian corp. (which absorbed kardasi hospitality) and moved into the complex just for the comfortingly familiar architecture. even tho he's not on the payroll for his (secret) dad's evil exploitative company anymore he's still vital to its continued efficiency and is an absolute sucker who still does unpaid shady work for them from time to time. so no one in the complex likes him, but also he's a very pleasant and fastidious queer man who pays his rent on time and has completely taken over the laundry room, to the benefit of everyone, because all the machines actually work now, it's always tidy, and there's a variety of forever-stocked detergents and soaps available, plus an iron?? there was not an iron before garak moved in. which is how it eventually becomes public knowledge that garak has an online tailoring and fashion design business, and he's actually pretty good at restoring clothes that get fucked by the washing machine or eaten by rats, soooo. yeah. they let him stick around.
meanwhile julian's a hot doctor who works at the local hospital and is absolutely buried in student debt that he refuses to let his moderately-wealthy family help him with because they're awful people who had him on illegal drugs without his knowledge since he was a little kid. they were afraid he had something wrong with him, apparently. he was too far behind in his class or w/e. they couldn't handle having a kid with special needs, so they pumped him full of dangerous experimental stimulants. only reason he found out is because he snuck off somewhere to start transitioning and had some tests done that revealed all the crazy shit in his system. he's insanely lucky he didn't end up in the hospital with seizures or fall into a coma or worse. not to mention his parents still dead-name him left and right over a decade later. it's a whole mess and a huge secret, because he technically has a history with illegal drug abuse, and it's a partially ongoing history because going cold turkey off drugs he's been on since he was six is Not A Good Idea, so??? fuck his life, actually. he lives in the apartment just down the hall from garak's.
garak hates the country his dad's company expanded into and would like nothing better than to move back home, but it's not really logistically possible. especially since everyone there hates him cuz his (secret) dad's company is a mega-corporation that's completely taken over everything p much and is a complete monopoly nightmare, and he did... kinda... work there for decades. no one would hire him if he went back. it would be an extreme conflict of interest, since everyone wants to stay on tain's good side, including garak. but starfleet is interested in him, so he does some begrudging contract work for them sometimes, but he really has no desire to join them. he just wants to resume his old career and reclaim his assets.
julian's hospital is owned by starfleet, tho. his scholarship into medical school was also from starfleet, in fact--they're the only reason he was able to (sort of) afford becoming a doctor at all. so he's a big fan, even tho they are pretty hardcore anti-drugs in a way that's made him have to forge medical records and risk serious legal charges and prison time. julian comes across as a squeaky clean medical professional and an adorable idiot, but he's intimately familiar with back-alley dealings. which is kind of how he ends up helping garak with his drug addiction, and keeps said addiction off the record.
but basically, how it begins is julian likes to support the local restaurants in the complex and garak finds him there and thinks he's gorgeous, and it proceeds as expected. they fuck nasty and become codependent. ten years later, julian lives in a modest house with garak in his home country and garak irons all his old university hoodies.

Day Six of WangXian Christmas Stories!
The orphanage was somewhere near the outskirts of town, a tall, uninviting building surrounded by a schoolyard-like area dotted with modest playground equipment. It was a sad place, even more so with the lack of greenery, the surrounding trees naked, with only snow to cover the empty branches.
The luxurious car that pulled into the driveway seemed entirely out of place, like it had showed up there by mistake, as did the huge truck that followed it. But there was no mistake - Wei Ying and Lan Zhan stepped out of the white Lamborghini with several big shopping bags in their hands, and made their way towards the orphanage entrance.
The director waited for them, a woman with greying hair and kind eyes named Sisi.
“Come in, please, I’ve been waiting for you.”
“Sorry we’re late!” Wei Ying apologized, a bit sheepish, “I haven’t been here in a while and I lost my way!”
Sisi smiled, understandingly, leading the two men into her office without another word. On the way, they passed by the kitchens, where they left the bags they’d come carrying. Meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as sweets and treats would fill the kids’ Christmas meal tomorrow.
“I must thank you again for what you’ve been doing for the kids here.” she began, taking a seat at her mahogany desk. “Many people only remember us during the holidays and then never again, but the two of you support us all throughout the year.”
“There is no need to thank us.” Lan Zhan finally spoke, handing her a stack of paperwork. “Here are the documents for everything we’ve brought in as well as the contract for rebuilding the playground. The truck and the team to discharge it are outside. The playground renovations will begin on March 11th.”
Sisi signed the papers quickly, grateful. “The kids will be so happy about all of this!”
“That’s the plan!” Wei Ying replied, “We even brought a Christmas tree, a big one, and everything to decorate it. Can we do that with the kids?”
“Oh, absolutely! They’d love that for sure, they’ve been asking about you since Halloween! They loved the party so much!”
“Great, then let’s go!”
---
Sisi brought all the kids into the large canteen room after the tree was brought in, and a chorus of “ooh, wow!” bounced off the white walls. The tree was indeed massive, with wide branches, tall to the ceiling, and fresh with pine fragrance.
“Did you get this from the forest?!” the voice of one little girl broke through.
Wei Ying smiled as he and Lan Zhan opened the boxes brimming with ornaments. “Yes! We chose this one especially for you guys for Christmas! Do you like it?”
A loud “yeah!” came from the crowd.
“Awesome! Now come help us decorate it, it’s so big we can’t do it on our own!”
The kids swarmed around Wei Ying and Lan Zhan, picking stars, angels and other various figurines to hang onto the tree branches, laughing and talking amongst themselves. Sisi let some Christmas music play in the background and joined in the fun occasionally, mostly supervising the rowdy little ones.
Wei Ying and Lan Zhan struggled just a bit to put the many string lights in, and every now and then Lan Zhan picked up a tiny (or not so tiny) child to place their favorite decoration high up where everyone could see. At some point he ended up with at least one little kid on his shoulders perpetually, allowing each some 5 minutes or so up there before picking the next. Most of them ended up calling him dad at least once, and his heart skipped a beat each time it happened, no matter how often he heard it.
It was late into the evening (well, 8pm, but for little kids it was late) that the decorating was finally finished, the kids, Wei Ying and Lan Zhan admiring their work pridefully. The tree looked like it had come out of a painting or a storybook.
“Now, there’s only one thing left to do!” Wei Ying announced, still chipper despite all the work. “We need to put the star up! Who wants to do it?”
Sisi gathered the kids around her and they began murmuring quietly. There was some squabbling and some whispering, before one little girl emerged from the crowd holding the star. It just so happened to be little girl that had become so attached to both Wei Ying and Lan Zhan the moment they started helping out at the orphanage, the very little girl they had been talking about adopting.
“Okay, so it’s you-”
“No, not me. We decided you should do it! You did so much for us!”
It was one of the few times Wei Ying was speechless.
And then he felt himself be hoisted up.
“Lan Zhan!”
“You heard her. Put it up.”
Wei Ying’s hands shook with emotion as he placed the ornament on top of the tree as everybody clapped and cheered. In the happy noise, the couple glanced at one another lovingly, understanding shining in their eyes.
As the kids were ushered to their rooms to go to sleep, and Sisi led Wei Ying and Lan Zhan out, they realized they had one more thing to do. Looking to Lan Zhan for a final confirmation, Wei Ying turned to Sisi with a smile. “There is one little girl here we’d like to get to know more.”
The woman returned the smile, knowing. “I thought you’d never ask.”

[+] outgoing, organised, professional, decisive [-] argumentative, temperamental, bossy, high maintenance
Character Inspirations: Daisy Duck (Disney), Summer Roberts (The OC), Iris West-Allen (The Flash)
background
Dahlia was born and raised in San Diego by a working single mother who did her best to give them a better life than she’d had growing up. It was not a grand or glamorous existence by any means, but what they lacked in wealth and material possessions they more than made up for in community, living in a largely Filipino neighbourhood that allowed them to stay in touch with their culture. Theirs was a simple life in a simple home, but it was full of laughter and love and above all, it was theirs.
When she was six years old, her mother got married and gave birth to her half-sister Evangeline, and a year later, her new stepfather moved their family to El Paso, Texas in order to take a job there. To say that Dahlia, already a self-proclaimed California girl through and through, experienced a mild culture shock would be an understatement. But she adored her dad and her sister, the 'step' and 'half' part of those labels falling away as fast as she learned them, and it really felt like they were always meant to be a family at that place and that time. It helped that she quickly made a close-knit group of friends who would stick together for life - including the absolutely infuriating blonde boy who would one day prove to be the love of her life.
After graduating high school, she got her Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine and went on to become a paramedic. A year later, DJ Dutton finished his contract with the Coast Guard and they began dating, and a year after that, they got married. Six years later, they started a family of their own, buying a house, renovating it, and relocating to West Virginia with their newly adopted twin girls.
They were on a camping trip - their first trip together as a family - when they ended up driving into Huntsville at dusk. Luckily, a local was able to pull them inside and explain the situation, which Dahlia... Did not take well, but held it together for the sake of their children. She took a job at the fire station as a paramedic, was eventually promoted to captain, and now that another six years have passed, she has almost adjusted to life in the apocalypse. This isn't where she wanted to raise her kids, and she really misses the marble kitchen countertops in the house that she barely got to live in, but at least they're all here together. And that's what matters.

MAG008, Burned Out
Case #0071304, Ivo Lensik Release date: April 9, 2016 First listen: 14th October. Out on the morning feed, I remember walking through the matrix
Wonderful title this one, considering my mental state at the time. All of our mental states really. As I’ve said, this podcast came to me in a period of my life where I was white knuckling it. And it was going to get harder. I’d made it through the lock down so far, and I my opinion I was relatively unscathed. But I think others could tell differently, others that knew me, others that reached out. And one of those out reached hands was a gentle suggestion of ‘hey, do you wanna give this podcast a go?’ I was dangerously close to burn out myself. Wouldn’t crash for another month or so, but the wick was getting low.
- But bloody Hill Top Road. In so many ways, where it began. Where it crawled into this world and took root. One hell of a cursed piece of real estate.
- I have no qualms with how Ivo is written, but I do have a question of sorts. Ivo works in construction, plumbing and electrics, and has been brought in on a job as ‘the guy they had doing the wiring had been called for jury duty and they’d lost him for a couple of weeks, so they asked me to step in.’… Now, I want to preface this with the assumption that ‘they had doing the wiring’ indicates that the job has been started and Ivo was coming in to carry on…. Is that allowed?!
– I only ask because I am currently living in a house of dust sheet and bare plaster, I would not have known this a year ago, but you learn thing during home renovating. I don’t now if there is different criteria on new builds, but once the electrician contracted to work on my place, only he could finish it. Only he could sign off the work being complete. Which came as an embuggerance when he’d told me that the job should take 2 weeks and I naively thought that meant he’d be done in 2 weeks, when in reality it was 2 weeks worth of work spread out over about 3 months as his gaffer pulled him from job to job. But once he started, we couldn’t have anyone else touch it. Maybe it’s a different thing with a new build and there may be teams working on a site. I’ll have to ask my Dad.
- The tree. The treeeee…. What does it mean?! Annabelle! What does it meeeeean? This is more than likely me over reaching, and for an atheist, I seem to find a heck of a lot of religious parallels and imagery in stuff, but I had a wee baby theory on the tree. Tree – apple tree? Or at the very least, apple in the box under the tree – apple, typically considered the stand in for the ‘Forbidden Fruit’ of Eden – the MacGuffin in the first manipulation? - The Web? It’s a reach. Yeah, don’t get me started on religious, more accurately Christian, imagery and parallels I keep seeing. I’ve got a who theory on Daisy and Jon being inverted Adam and Eve figures. I’ll get there one day.
- Raymond Fielding. You old recluse. Tan coat, unassuming. It becomes a bit more concrete in a later statement, but do you know what a brown recluse spider looks like? Tan. Unassuming. Interestingly, has fewer pairs of eyes than the average spider species, 3 pairs rather than 4.
- The phantom smell of burning is a fascinating one in this case, because it could so easily get bundled off as a mental symptom, such as the olfactory hallucinations one might have while suffering a stroke. Even though we know in hindsight that The Desolation has just as much as a grip on the site as The Web, because the statement giver is so on the look out for any signs of mental health decline, it is misattributed.
- Fractals. Ah yes, hello Michael. The Distortion. I think it’s our first mention of The Throat Of Delusion Incarnate.
- And then comes the fall at work and I want to go on the record that since my fall I have gone and logged it with the correct people at work and it has been recorded and the whole office now knows of my shame. They were saying I need to be monitored. I did not knock myself out though, I did not require assistance to the same extent as Ivo. Does lone working still suck? Yes. Do I perhaps have a think piece percolating at the back of my brain about the archival staff and self neglect that maybe holding up a little bit of a mirror to my own issues? Yeah, maybe. I’m working on myself, I’ll get there. Got certain folks doing their damnedest to make sure of that.
- Again, as Annie tells the history of the place, getting a lot of religious alarm bells. Raymond Fielding, a ‘devout churchgoer’, the halfway house on operating on ‘behalf of the local diocese’. The fact that the archival team couldn’t exactly pin down which denomination that diocese was exactly making it all the more suspect. Did Raymond allow the residents to get into trouble on purpose? Did he not provide support and care so the transient youth would cause trouble, manipulating their behaviour to alienate themselves from the local community, so no one cared or looked too close when they started to disappear? Believing they’d ‘moved on’? Seeing it as a blessed relief as things quieted down and not asking questions? And I don’t really want to think too hard about how seemingly unregulated homes like this one could become a hot bed of abuse, even without the influence of an Avatar running it.
- Relistening to the introduction of Agnes threw me. ‘Mousy brown pigtails’? I beg your pardon, what? She’s a redhead, we know this. Don’t we? I admit, I joined the fandom long after the fan art had formed a homogeneous look for the core cast. I still love the variety I see in the fan art, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a piece with Agnes that doesn’t have her as a redhead.
- Agnes did scare me when she was first introduced, this child appearing like Damian out of ‘The Omen’. Surviving in that house alongside Raymond even as the other youths vanished one by one. I think I felt like she was holding him captive, and indeed she was, only in hindsight I want to thank her for it. But then out living Raymond and becoming a shut in that stares out of windows. That gets blamed for pets disappearing. That doesn’t have anyone come to her aid when the house goes up in flames because a boy goes missing and there’s no evidence. Was this another machination of The Web? Was it somehow feeding on the small pets and Henry White, only to then turn the rumours of the Avatar of The Desolation that had a hold on it some how.
- The charred remains of Raymond Feilding, missing a hand, that presumably is the one found tied round waist of one Agnes Montague some 30 years later. Has to be a hand though doesn’t it. Can’t be a puppet master without a hand.
- There are a few Entities that lend themselves to religion and cults and I think for all their grappling, The Web and The Desolation are two of those that go the hardest. The Dark is definitely in there too. I think The Desolation seeks to preach its’ own doctrine, and The Web seeks to manipulate the fervour already there.
- Letting a Catholic priest onto an active build site. Has Father Burroughs reported to the site manager? Has he signed in? Has he been issued with appropriate PPE? I’ve been on too many construction sites over the last few months for this to slide. Is he wearing a hard hat?
- Also, Annie, this feels a little ‘breaching of patient confidentiality’ and ‘medical ethics’.
- ‘Blood flowing from the wounded tree’. Anyone else seen Tim Burton’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’?
- The wooden box under the tree, described as carved with patterns. Like those of the table in MAG003?
- A single green apple, you’re not diminishing my whole ‘Eden Apple’ crack theory here...
- Did up rooting the tree… do something? I mean, it clearly was a trigger of some sort, the heat stops and Agnes seems to have perished at the same moment, but what precisely is happening here? What horcrux, lich’s phylactery nonsense is going on here? Was the tree a stopper in the bottle neck and now something is loose? Just checked and, yup, Hill Top Road is a real street. Street view doesn’t want to let me see No. 105 though.
- ‘Father Burroughs made his own statement.’ If memory serves, that one’s a doozy.
- ‘Two families have lived in the house since this statement was originally made but no further manifestations have been reported on Hill Top Road.’… Imagine being in that house October 18, 2018, when the world snapped. Which was the 4th Anniversary 2 days ago. Cursed times.

Frankie loves making out+dry humping because it reminds him when you guys just started dating in your early twenties and he would sneak out of his parent's house late at night to pick you up in his truck and drive off to some starry spot to make out, this often lead to him either cumming in his pants or some awkward bumps and the occasional tap on the window from a very tired sheriff who is also friends with his father but he remembers the quick kisses you'd give him and your stifled laughter as your idiot boyfriend would shout "I LOVE YOU!" to your dorm window at like 2 in the morning

If Daedalus had a side story in the game
Tumblr media
The characters involved in his side story would include Icarus and Helios.
Zagreus encounters Daedalus in the courtyard, and he's there before Skelly shows up.
Daedalus allows Zagreus to enhance his gears before every run. After renovations, it could also happen that Zagreus encounters him in the same room keeping the fountains, the well of Charon, and switch his Keepsakes.
When Zagreus gives him the first Nectar, the Keepsake Daedalus gives a preserved waxed feather that deflects the first hit per chamber.
His heart locks and can only unlock after the reunion with his son Icarus, who is in Elysium. Like Achilles, he signed a contract with Hades that he would work for the house provided that his son is in a good place. As a father, he wanted him to be in a better place than Asphodel.
Zagreus must first get Icarus's interest on being reunited with his father. Icarus doesn't really want to hear a scolding from his father about how he didn't listen to him about the sun. Zagreus can't really talk, since he also has a bit of a feud with his own father so it didn't feel right to preach about it.
Icarus is like some kind of vendor who can be found in the fountain chamber of Elysium with his own shop. He has a lottery and if Zagreus is lucky, he can win either Titan's blood or Diamond. Not ambrosia though, since that's the prize for winning fights in Elysium. If not so lucky, he just gets small amounts of darkness or gemstones.
Zagreus can also give Icarus obols in exchange for switching a boon with a weapon enhancement. Icarus mentions in a dialogue that he uses the obols to buy snacks from Charon whenever the boatman was in the area.
Helios is in the game. He gives Zagreus boons mostly related to light. His stun effect is due to blinding his enemies.
In some dialogues before Helios gives him boons, Helios mentions Icarus and that it wasn't his fault they were both attracted to each other, or that attraction led to Icarus being there.
Icarus and Helios being an item. (x)
Tumblr media
After Icarus is mentioned a few times by Helios, and Zagreus mentioning Daedalus missing his son, Helios tells Zagreus he would try helping Icarus see reason.
The next time Zagreus encounters Icarus, Icarus says he's ready to confront his dad again.
Zagreus mentions this to Daedalus first, then Nyx to find the contract so he could void it.
After Zagreus voids Daedalus's contract so that he could visit his son when he's off duty, the first time Zagreus encounters either of them after the act was done, Daedalus and Icarus are in the fountain chamber of Elysium. This can only be triggered if the boon reward is Helios. This is also basically the meeting where Icarus lets Daedalus know he's been seeing Helios in a more than platonic way.
Daedalus is speechless.
Zagreus dialogue goes "Okay! So I'll be taking a drink from the fountain and be heading away then."
Other tidbits
Zagreus can receive a Chthonic companion from Icarus, an angel doll with wings, which would summon Icarus who flies by quickly with the brightness of the sun chasing after him which inflicts about a thousand damage points and causes stun.

______
“Thank you, Barry,” you said as he left the office at the brewery. Your head was still up when your dad slipped inside and he shut the door. “What’s up?”
“There’s a talent scout out in the draft room,” he said.
“Fascinating,” you said, going back to reading over a contract with a new distributor.
“Y/N they’re here to see you.” You turned in your seat and stared at him, breaking out into a giggle. “I’m serious.”
“This is by far your worst prank yet.”
“You modeled some of the new merch last week? He’s here for you,” he said.
“To what, model?” you scoffed. “No thank you.”
“Well can you go tell him that because he was insisting on hearing it from you,” he said. You sighed and walked out front, a guy in a suit with no tie on sipping from a glass. He smiled when he saw your dad behind you.
“Ms. Ackles,” he said, holding out his hand. “Nice to meet you.”
“It’s Mrs. Hanover,” you said with a friendly enough smile.
“You’re clearly used to some hard negotiations.”
“I’m tougher than I look Mr…”
“Elbridge but please call me Dan.”
“What can I do for you today, Dan?” you asked. He walked out to a quieter spot by the railing, settling at one ot the standing tables.
“I work for a talent agency, Mrs. Hanover. We’ve worked with your father a few times when he was starting out,” he said, your dad giving a nod. “We’ve seen your modeling pictures and we’re very interested in you doing a shoot.”
“I appreciate the offer but my answer is no. I’m not a model or an actress or any of the things my parents are besides someone invested in this brewery,” you said.
“She is a tough cookie,” he said as he looked at your dad. “I’m assuming you told her nothing I told you.”
“You gotta sell it on your own,” he said.
“Y/N, we’d like you to be in a commercial with some other women. An underwear commercial.”
“Excuse me?”
“It’s a commercial for inclusivity for people with differences,” he said.
“He means the scar on your back, Y/N. From the accident,” said your dad.
“You’re exactly the kind of person we want included in the line. There’ll be a photo run of things too and-“
“Why exactly do you know I have a scar on my back?”
“Your Instagram. I assumed it was public knowledge.”
“Okay but it’s not even that big. Like it blends in. I’m boring. Get like, an amputee or a burn survivor. That’s inclusive. I’m average.”
“We have a vast array of women in the line including those types and all kinds of body types. But you’re...a brand name we could put to the project.”
“Brand name,” you said. He hummed and you laughed. “My dad? That’s a brand name, not me. Throw him in some underwear and I’m sure you’ll get all the attention you want.”
“Well we want you,” he said. He pulled out a business card and handed it over. “Our initial offer is on the back but we’re open to negotiations. Call us if you think you might be interested. Oh and the beer’s great.”
“Thanks,” you said, looking over the card. The guy had wandered off by the time you flipped it over.
“I told him you wouldn’t be interested,” said your dad, sipping from his bottle of water. You blinked at the card, your dad raising an eyebrow. “You’re not considering it are you?”
“Dad,” you said. You flipped the card around and showed it to him, water spitting out of his mouth.
“Hey, Dan,” he said, rushing back and waving him over. Dan smiled as he walked back, drink in his hand.
“I thought that’d-” said Dan before your dad got in his face. “Is there a problem?”
“What are you up to,” he said.
“Dad.”
“Y/N no one gets offered that much money off the street. No one. So I’m gonna ask again. What are you up to?”
“It’s for a package deal. A photo shoot. A commercial. Ad sponsorship for three months bi-weekly on her social media accounts. We’d also like her to design the set for the commercial. There’s a time crunch of next week so we felt a hundred was a fair offer for that amount of work on short notice,” said Dan. “If she were simply modeling, we’d offer her twenty five but this is our biggest line of the year. You are more than welcome to come along every step of the way.”
“Dan I really do appreciate the offer but I’m not a model. I don’t even remember the last time I wore makeup. I will happily design a set and build if you like and maybe I can do the ad thing but I’m not a model like my parents. Can I talk to my dad for a second?”
He nodded and walked off a ways, your dad sighing.
“Maybe mom could do it or something? She’s done that stuff before,” you said.
“I’m not gonna tell you what to do. Go for the set design for sure. You’re good at it and I know you get to break back into your architecture skills for that. But the rest...once you get on that train you can’t get off.”
“Dad, people already know who I am. I have like...an obnoxious number of followers on my accounts and stuff. My most popular posts? Always about you. I’ve never been in the shadows.”
“I know but that’s different than you doing these things. If you start taking pictures in underwear, you’re gonna attract at least a few weirdos and most of them are harmless but maybe some aren’t and there is a reason that Uncle Cliff still hangs out with me at certain times.”
“It’s a hundred thousand dollars. TJ and I could pay off the lawyer fees for Allie’s adoption finally,” you said. “We could get our mortgage payment down.”
“You’ve never cared about money,” he said. You pursed your lips and he narrowed his eyes. “Are things tight?”
“Dad.”
“Are they?”
“I don’t ask about your finances.”
“I sat down with both you and TJ when you bought the house and even with the renovation costs, your monthly payment was very affordable. Allie’s adoption should have been paid off months ago.”
“Do you stalk our spending now or what?” you shot back.
“Well you haven’t bought a new car or any big expenses. Where’s the money going?” he asked.
“I’ll take the set design and leave it at that,” you said. You brushed past him and over to Dan.
Thirty minutes later you had a signed contract and were back in your office, your dad grumbling as he walked inside.
“I’m busy,” you said.
“Where’s the money going, Y/N?”
“TJ and I make very good money,” you said, typing up an email. He leaned over the desk and narrowed his eyes. “I took the set design only for twenty. Happy?”
“Why do you need twenty thousand dollars?”
“Coming from the guy who made how much fucking money for a single freaking episode? At least I’m not slutting out my face,” you said. He stood back and slammed the door shut on his way out. You sighed and got up, finding him out back, splitting old pallets down. “Dad I’m sorry.”
“Whatever,” he mumbled.
“Dad. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that.”
“Yeah you did,” he said. “That is exactly why I didn’t want you doing that shoot. Then all you are is a pretty face.”
He moved a pallet and picked up the axe again, bringing it down in the center.
“Dad.”
“What?” he snapped as he spun around.
“I said it because I knew it’d make you mad and piss you off and get you to drop it. It’s the only reason I said it. Please stop asking about where my money goes. Please.”
“Are you in trouble?”
“Dad I said to stop asking.”
“Tough shit,” he said with a shrug. “Call me whatever you want. Maybe I get pissed off but I’ll cool off too. I know how much you make and I know how much he makes and I know you two have both been taking side jobs recently. You should have your house paid off by now, not barely making your mortgage. What’s going on and I want the truth.”
“I can’t.”
“What’s TJ involved in,” he said. You looked away and he nodded. “There are very few reasons why you wouldn’t tell me the truth and considering how small Allie and Colin are, he’s the only one I can think of.”
“I can’t.”
“Hey! There you are,” said TJ, walking around the corner with a bag in his hand. “I was out at a ranch nearby for work and figured we could have lunch together.”
“Speak of the little devil,” said your dad. He dropped the axe and TJ set the food on the hood of his truck, cocking his head.
“You okay, Jensen?” he asked.
“Peachy,” he said, putting his hands on his hips when he stopped in front of him. “So. Want to tell me what’s going on with your finances lately?”
TJ glanced to you and you shook your head.
“Nothing,” said TJ quietly.
“You want to try that again and not lie to me this time?” asked Jensen. TJ shook his head and your dad shut his eyes. “If you’re involved in something bad, let me help. I have money.”
“TJ just tell him,” you said. TJ sighed and picked up the food, walking over to the employee picnic area and sat down. You took a seat beside him and TJ handed you a wrapped burrito, your dad sitting across from him.
“I’m not angry. Let me help is all,” said your dad.
“It’s not us who’s in trouble,” said TJ. Your dad looked to you and you nodded. “It’s my dad.”
“Oh you two,” he said, shutting his eyes. “You’re paying off Rick’s debt he owes somebody, aren’t you.”
“Rick owes money to a bookie and...he beat him up kinda bad and we have extra so…” you said, your dad staring at you. “He asked us not to tell anyone.”
“How much?” he asked.
“Five...hundred,” said TJ.
“Five hundred thousand?” he asked, your heads nodding. “Five hundred thousand? What...how much have you given him already?”
“About half,” said TJ. Your dad shook his head and put his hands over his face, quickly pulling them off. “I know it’s a lot.”
“Yeah…” he said, swallowing to himself.
“We got it covered. Really. At the rate we’re doing extra side work-”
“Kids...you’re both so kind I think you missed something pretty important,” said your dad.
“I don’t understand,” said TJ. He looked to you and you shrugged.
“Guys that’s a lot of money. That’s...an extraordinary amount of money to a lot of people. How on earth does your father owe that much money all of a sudden?” asked your dad.
“He made some bets he lost on,” said TJ.
“But how could it be that much. What was the original bet?”
“What?”
“What was the original bet he made and lost on?”
“I don’t know. We figured it must have been like a hundred.”
“So your father bet a hundred, say he lost. That’s two hundred. Say he got some insane interest on it. Okay. Maybe, maybe he truly owes that much. But where did he get that original one hundred?”
“He didn’t have it,” said TJ. “We think.”
“Okay. He bet badly and ends up owing the whole thing,” he said.
“Exactly.”
“Do you give this money to Rick or the bookie?” asked your dad.
“My dad. He didn’t want us to get involved with the guy,” said TJ.
“Okay,” said your dad. “Here’s what’s gonna happen. I’m gonna drive up to your folks this afternoon TJ and talk to your dad, see what’s left he owes. I will pay the rest.”
“Jensen that’s a lot of money.”
“I know it is. But it’s better to get him out of the hole quickly before something were to happen and I can afford it. Okay? I’m gonna head up. You two enjoy your lunch. I’ll be home in a few hours.”
Something was off about him as he stood and left but you weren’t quite sure what was wrong.
“My dad’s gonna be pissed. He didn’t want Jensen to know at all,” said TJ.
“He wants to help. He’s got a point. The quicker it’s paid off, the quicker your dad’s out of danger. Let’s have lunch and you can tell me about that ranch you’re fixing up.”
“Arrow,” you grumbled that night as she reached for the hot pan. “Let it cool off.”
“Why are we having dinner at your house?” she asked. “No offense but you can only cook like five things.”
“Would you like to cook dinner for seven?” you asked. She held up her hands and you rolled your eyes.
“To be fair, Colin still eats baby food,” she said.
“Thank you for volunteering to feed your nephew,” you said with a grin.
“I didn’t-”
“Ro!” he said as he waddled into the kitchen, wrapping her legs up in a hug.
“I hate you,” she said, narrowing her eyes before she picked him up.
“Thank you Arrow,” you said as she put him on her hip. “He’s got dinner in the fridge if you wouldn’t mind?”
“I got it,” she said, opening it up one handed. “Mom and dad have some last minute thing or something?”
“I don’t know,” you said, your phone ringing, Jared’s name popping up. “Can you get that?”
“Hey Uncle Jared,” she said, hitting it on speaker.
“Arrow? Hey you mind finding your sister for me?” he asked.
“She’s busy making dinner. Apparently it’s very difficult.”
“I’m here Jared,” you said. You grabbed the phone and shoved it between your shoulder and ear. “What’s up?”
“Don’t freak out,” he said. “But come outside.”
You turned down the heat on the stove and went out the front door, finding Jared on the seat out front.
“Uh, what’s up?” you asked, pulling the door shut behind you. “This is weird.”
“Your dad may have...listen. Shit went down when Jensen went up to see TJ’s dad whatever his fuckface name is.”
“Jared.”
“Oh you’re about to call him fuckface too.”
“What happened?”
“Well...he had a bad feeling about this whole thing. He and De went up there to talk to them. Things aren’t...your dad’s in the hospital.”
“What?” you said quietly. He stood up and gave you a smile, pulling you into a hug.
“It’s okay. He got a little cut when he got...pushed,” he said.
“Jared,” said TJ, stepping outside with a curious look. “What’s up dude?”
“Normally being the Uncle is the fun stuff,” he said. TJ frowned when you both saw a cop car pull into your driveway, Cody getting out. “Codes.”
“Dad, I got this,” he said as he hopped up on the porch. You smiled and looked back at TJ. “Oh shut up. I got adopted like six months ago. I might as well.”
“What exactly is happening?” asked TJ.
“Dad,” said Cody again. Jared sat back in the seat, Cody sighing. “TJ...dude I’m sorry. You’re like my brother.”
“Did my...did something happen to my parents,” he said quietly, Cody’s head shaking. “Oh.”
“Rick’s been stealing money from you. There’s no bookie to pay off. Jensen and De went up today to talk to him and they found out the truth and your dad’s got in a fist fight and you guys ought to head up North. It’s not my jurisdiction so I’m not much help.”
“My father did what?” said TJ. Cody glanced at you and you looked down. “That’s not true.”
“Yes, it is,” he said. “TJ the police from your hometown looked into it. He took the money. He’s claiming it was a gift from the two of you but we all know that’s not true.”
“No, he’s been making progress. We’ve been making progress. We’ve been getting along really well,” said TJ.
“Did that start when you started giving him money?” asked Cody.
“Excuse me?”
“I’m just saying what I know as a cop. Did your relationship start changing when money started exchanging hands?”
“Why does he hate me,” said TJ. You grabbed his hand and he shut his eyes. “He must hate me. That’s the only reason I can see why he would do something like that.”
“He doesn’t hate you,” you said.
“He hates you and Jensen. He thinks De is eye candy to stare at. I don’t know how on earth he can pretend to like me,” he said.
“TJ,” said Jared.
“You gonna tell me he loves me or some shit? It’s not good enough,” said TJ.
“I was gonna say you can cut him out of your life if you want to and you’re still gonna have a dad you know. I don’t understand him. I do think he loves you but there’s some resentment towards everyone else you call family. I don’t know why but it’s your choice what you want to do. I’m gonna go inside and finish cooking dinner and we’ll watch all of them tonight. Y/N-”
“I got him,” you said with a nod.
Ten minutes later you were on the road and driving, TJ staring out the passenger window.
“Honey-”
“Don’t,” he said, voice barely above a whisper. You reached over and grabbed his hand, TJ squeezing it. “We’re going to my parents house after and we’re packing up as much crap as we can to bring back. I’m never speaking to him again after tonight.”
“TJ.”
“All the late hours I put in doing side jobs. All the jobs you’ve been doing for set design on the weekends. For months and months we’ve been doing it. Straight into his fucking pocket. We could have paid off the house with that money. Paid off bills. That’s our money. It’s our kids money. It’s not some sack of shit’s to go buy whatever he wants with. I could fucking kill him.”
“We’ll get it back,” you said.
“It’s not about the money.”
“I know, babe,” you said.
“Why is he like that?”
“It’s not an excuse but I think he was raised very poorly and he doesn’t...he knows it’s wrong but I think he thinks we have so much it’s okay if he takes from us.”
“He took two hundred and fifty thousand dollars from us. A year of side jobs for the both of us on top of everything else. We sleep four hours a night. We weren’t handed that. We worked for it. We worked our asses off. All that pressure and all the pressure we thought somebody would hurt him if we were late with money? I can’t believe I ever gave a shit about him. I should have trusted you. You’ve never liked him. No one in your family did. Even Arrow and that kid loves everybody. I should have trusted you guys.”
“TJ they didn’t like him because of the way he treated you, not me. I knew he was a dick when I met him but he belittles you, so, so much. We hate that he does that to you.”
“I don’t know how my mom is married to someone like him.”
“Don’t cut her out,” you said. “She raised you. You’re all her. Anyone who meets you can see that.”
“He’s going to lie when I see him again. I don’t know what to do,” he said.
“Why?” you asked.
“Because.” You pulled over and he sat back in his seat. He turned his head and you saw all the tears streaming down his face.
“Honey,” you said. You leaned over and hugged him, TJ gripping you back.
“He’d kick my ass for crying right now.”
“Who was it that sat up with my dad after the accident and let him cry all over him? My dad who hates to cry and he’s not afraid to cry in front of you.”
“He’s strong. I’m not.”
“You’re my best friend. The girl who thought she was so fucked up and would be alone. God, Thomas. You gave me something even my parents and family couldn’t. You know how I never thought in a million years I could have this kind of love and you were never scared. The insecurities. The nightmares. The days where I’m quiet and my head gets to me. You just grab my hand and you make it better. You’re stronger than most everyone on this planet. I love and I’ve loved you since I met you and I’ll do anything for you, you know that. We’re partners. If you want to give your dad another chance you can and I won’t question it for a second.”
“I don’t want to talk to him again,” he said, sitting up somewhat. “But how do I say that when you didn’t get a choice? You didn’t get a choice with your parents. They were just gone and you had no say. How can I just walk away like that?”
“My parents didn’t treat me like the way your father does. Neither of my moms or dads ever have. You can walk away from someone that does, TJ. I don’t want you near someone like that. Jared was right too you know. You’re not gonna lose a dad tonight. You’ve always had one and he’s gonna be there for you always.”
“He hurt Jensen, didn’t he?” he sniffled.
“I’m sure he's fine. He’s very...defensive of his children is all.”
“Jensen gave me a letter,” he said. “Addressed to me. That’s when I really knew he loved me.”
“He loved you before that.”
“I know he did. I don’t know why I wanted my dad when I’ve had Jensen the whole time.”
“I’ve been there. Trust me,” you said. He let out a small laugh and you hugged him, TJ taking a deep breath. “I’m sorry Rick hurt you.”
“He hurt both of us.”
“Yeah but I care more about the fact he hurt you. I may deck him when I see him,” you said.
“That’d be kinda awesome,” he said. “But please don’t.”
“Hugs instead?” you said.
“I’ll take hugs,” he said. His stomach grumbled and you kiss his temple.
“I’m gonna hit the drive thru and then we’ll get on the road again, okay honey?”
“Okay,” he said. You kissed him one last time before you got out of the car and dug around in the trunk. You took out your oversized hoodie and brought it up to the front, handing it to him. “What’s this?”
“You can steal it if you want. Your hoodie’s kinda make me feel better on crappy days,” you said.
“Thanks,” he said. “I really love you.”
“Me too. It’s gonna be okay.”
One Hour Later
“Let’s go to the hospital first,” said TJ as you hit the edge of town.
“Jared said my dad was fine.”
“Y/N. Let’s go to the hospital,” he said. You nodded and about ten minutes later you were parked and getting a room number. He held your hand on the elevator ride up, kissing the top of your head. “You alright?”
“I’d prefer if he could stay out of the hospital.”
“Me too,” he said, the doors opening. You walked a little too quickly until you found the room, your mom and dad talking as you walked in.
“What are you two doing here?” he asked.
“Jared and Cody came by and we learned some stuff,” you said. “Why are you in the hospital? You look...normal.”
“Your father hit his head.”
“I’m fine.”
“After the accident last year-”
“It was nearly a year ago.”
“After the accident they wanted to be safe and monitor overnight just in case. He got a cut on his arm from some metal but that’s all,” said your mom.
“I’m fine,” said your dad. He got up out of bed and spun around. “See? No concussion. An itty bitty scratch is all you worry worts.”
“Was there a fight?” you asked. He sat down and sighed. “You don’t look like it.”
“No,” he said. He looked at TJ and pursed his lips. “TJ would you mind grabbing me a drink from the vending machine?”
“Whatever you want to say, you’re gonna say it in front of me,” he said.
“Mom and I went up to your parents place and it started out okay. But your mom didn’t quite understand what was going on. She thought Rick had been doing well betting horses at a track and that’s where the sudden money came from. Things...devolved from there and Rick got defensive and I was angry so we started arguing and he shoved me and your mom and De shut it down and the cops came and I’m sorry but he took the money for himself. Last we heard from your mom a little while ago she’s giving all the money back to you guys.”
“You pressing charges?” asked TJ.
“It was a shove. He didn’t take my money. You two are the ones that have a right to charge him,” he said.
“Do you know where my mom is?” asked TJ.
“She’s at your house along with your dad,” he said.
“Y/N why don’t you hang here with your parents,” said TJ. You shook your head and he frowned. “You’re worried about your dad. Stay.”
“He’s okay and I’m coming with you,” you said.
“Me too,” said your mom.
“De-”
“TJ. You’re not gonna win this one,” she said. “Jensen’s okay on his own for a bit and he’d come if he could. You’re not gonna go talk to your dad alone.”
“Fine. Let’s go,” he said, already leaving the room. Your mom grabbed her purse and you ran your hands over your face.
“Go take care of him,” said your dad quietly.
“Dad.” You walked in front of him and he wrapped his arms around you. “He’s gonna be fucked up.”
“I know. We’ll take care of him,” he said. He kissed your temple and pushed you towards the door gently. “Go take care of your husband.”
“We’ll be back.”
“Guys I think maybe I should go in first,” said your mom a short while later, the three of you parked in his parent’s driveway.
“No,” said TJ.
“Thomas.”
“Danneel,” he said. He turned in the passenger seat and she sighed. “I’m a big boy. I can go in first.”
“Don’t be violent.”
“I won’t,” he said quietly. She kissed his cheek and nodded.
“Okay sweetie. Let’s get this over with,” she said. You got out and took his hand, TJ not as tense as you were expecting.
“His car isn’t here,” he said quietly on the way up the porch steps. He rang the doorbell and the door flew open, his mom standing there. “Hi mom.”
“I kicked him out for the night,” she said, letting the door open for the three of you. “I’m so sorry. Danneel is Jensen-”
“He’s pissed but fine,” said your mom, following you inside. TJ walked around for a moment, stopping at a picture on the wall.
“Mom. Why does dad hate me?” he asked. He looked over his shoulder and she frowned. “He manipulated me and Y/N. He’s horrible to her family. I get that he went through something as a kid but he’s a grown man.”
“Your father loves you. He doesn’t always know the best way to show it,” she said.
“He hurt me and you’re gonna side with him. Again,” he said.
“He made a mistake.”
“Hell of a mistake,” you mumbled.
“Do you think he wants to be the way he is?” she asked.
“I could have gotten past everything before but this? He doesn’t get to worm his way out of it. I’m done with him.”
“Then you’re gonna be done with me too,” she said. TJ turned around and she lifted her chin. “He doesn’t deserve to thrown out of your life over a mistake.”
“I seem to recall you not saying a word when he almost hit your grandaughter with a belt,” said TJ. “Why do you make excuses for him?”
“Why do you hate him?” she asked. TJ threw up his hands and shook his head. “Always since you were a little boy you’ve hated him.”
“He didn’t want me, not the other way around. I know he worked a lot but all I wanted when he came home at night was a hug or a bedtime story. I wasn’t asking for much,” said TJ. “He resented me.”
“He put in all those long hours for you, to provide for you.”
“I’ve been working since I was fourteen. I paid for my own things from the second I was able to. I paid for school all on my own. My apartment. My car. I paid for my wedding and honeymoon. He paid for food and roof over my head which is the bare minimum he could have done. Don’t tell me he provided for me. He fucking hated me.”
“Because you’re not his,” she said. You and your mom looked at one another, TJ blinking where he stood. “Rick isn’t your father.”
“Excuse me?”
“I cheated on your father because he can be an asshole and I needed an escape. He found out when I was pregnant.”
“Excuse me?” asked TJ again.
“He never wanted children because he thought he’d be a bad father. I guess he was right in your mind,” she said.
“If you’re gonna tell the story, you might as well tell the whole thing,” said Rick. He stepped out from down the hall, TJ’s mom sighing.
“So you are here,” said TJ.
“Car’s in the shop,” he said.
“You hate me?”
“I love you. It doesn’t mean I’m a good person though,” he said.
“You stole from us.”
“Yes I did.”
“Why?”
“This house is the size of your living room. You have so much.”
“If you wanted money just fucking ask,” said TJ.
“Like I said, just cause I love you doesn’t mean I’m a good person.”
“You’re not even my father apparently.”
“I’m your father,” he said. “Didn’t make ya but I’m your father.”
“What’s the story?” asked your mom. They all looked to her and she looked at TJ’s mom. “What don’t we know.”
“You ever wonder how someone like me wound up with someone like your mother? We’re polar opposites most days,” said Rick. TJ narrowed his eyes and looked between them.
“Don’t tell him,” said his mom.
“Alright,” said Rick. “I must have been mistaken.”
“TJ, can I talk to you,” you said, pulling him into the kitchen. “TJ do you remember in family studies when we had that project to track our family trees and you found your parents marriage certificate and the year was wrong?”
“Y/N what’s that got to do with anything.”
“What if the year wasn’t wrong.”
“It can’t be. They would have gotten married after I was born then.”
“TJ I’m not saying your dad is great but he just lied for your mom. He loves her. Something happened before you were born or after. I have this feeling that she didn’t cheat on him.”
“What are you saying?”
“Maybe I’m wrong but maybe your mom was in a bad situation and Rick stepped in to help because of her.”
“Rick,” said TJ, very quickly exiting back to the family room. “When did you meet my mom. If you ever want to speak to me again, if you want me to speak to her again, you’ll tell me the truth.”
Rick glanced to TJ’s mom, TJ smirking.
“You do care about her.”
“Of course I fucking care about her. I care about you too.”
“That’s great. I feel very cared for,” said TJ. Rick pursed his lips and his mom nodded. “Truth or I walk out that door and never come back.”
“I was married,” said TJ’s mom. “He was charming until he wasn’t. I got pregnant with you and you were born and he would get so angry at you for being a simple baby and crying and...I was so scared of him hurting you that I left. I had nothing and I stayed with a friend for a few days. I met Rick through them and he offered us a safe place to stay with him. It was only supposed to be short term but things developed. He is not perfect but he’s not the monster you think he is. We are safe and the reason you have all you do well and truly is because of him.”
“Do you have anything to say?” asked TJ quietly.
“I loved your mother before I loved you, that’s true. But I learned and I’ve done my best. You were far better off without me in your life. Look at what you have. You’d be angry and bitter if I had more of a hand in raising you. So you can hate me but you do not hurt your mother like that. You do not walk away from her after everything she has done for you. Understand me?”
“I need space from you,” said TJ, Rick nodding. “I also need something else.”
“What?”
“I still don’t understand why you took the money if you weren’t going to spend it.”
“Was gonna impress you, turn a profit on it, give it back with interest. Be like her father, give you some money for once.”
“Jensen doesn’t impress me because of money. Yes, their family doesn’t have to think twice about the cost of most anything. But Jensen, De, they don’t impress me for any reason other than how kind they’ve been to me. They treat me like their son, like I’m their own. They don’t pretend to. They don’t tolerate me for Y/N. They genuinely care about me, all because I fell in love with their daughter, a girl that’s not even theirs and they love her to death. The house is nice. The wedding was nice and so are the vacations. But I could live in a cardboard box and be happy if all I ever got was their kindness. They never made me work for it. They just gave it to me. You could have just given it to me and I would have been a happier kid. But you didn’t and now you have to work for it on my terms. So I want our money back and I want some space from you. If and when I’m ready to talk to you again, I’ll reach out. Alright?”
“Okay,” he said. TJ crossed his arms and nodded before he went outside. His mom followed after and you gave Rick a look. He pulled out his phone and tapped on it for a few moments before shoving it in his pocket. “It says it’s pending for that big of a transfer. It should be back in your account in a few days.”
“Oh I’ll make sure of that,” you said, walking over to him. “Rick. Maybe try some therapy if you really want to salvage this relationship.”
“You think I can afford that?” he said.
“We’ll pay,” said your mom. “Jensen and I will.”
“Why?”
“Cause he’s a fucking awesome kid and he deserves a relationship with you, even if we don’t like you,” she said.
“What about you? You hate me too kid?” he asked you.
“I can learn to tolerate and respect you. But you hurt him and I’ll protect him from anyone that does that, including you. But it’s not my forgiveness you need. It’s his so maybe try the therapy and let him come back if he’s ever ready for that, okay?”
“Alright.” You turned to go when he caught your shoulder. “Can I ask where the money came from? Jensen made it sound like you were behind on bills.”
“It made things tight for us. TJ and I have both been working side jobs nights and weekends to scrounge up extra money. We weren’t handed any of that money we gave you. We even took from ourselves and our children. Just because we live in a nice house doesn’t mean we don’t work for it,” you said. “Oh and one more thing. Touch my father again or call my mom slutty behind her back one more time, you’ll find out which one of us isn’t the good person in this relationship.”
“He what…” said your mom as you walked out, pulling her along behind you. “Dickhead!”
“Come on mom,” you said, pushing her back to the car. TJ gave his mom a nod and hug before he climbed back into the backseat.
“Slut my ass,” your mom mumbled under breath as she started the car back up.
“Mom, let it go,” you said, shutting your eyes and slumping down in your seat.
“Put on your seatbelt,” she said. You reached up and put it on, turning back to catch TJ with his head leaned back. “You okay back there?”
“I don’t know,” he said.
“That’s probably the right answer,” you said.
“Let’s get back to dad. I’m sure he’s climbing the walls to get out of there by now.”
Two Days Later
“Howdy,” said your dad, taking a seat in the patio chair beside you as you watched TJ swim in your pool with Allie. “Where’s the babe?”
“Naptime,” you said, TJ tossing Allie up in the air and hugging her tight when he caught her again.
“How’s he holding up?” he asked, reaching over and taking a chip out of the bag in front of you.
“Better than expected. He’ll give Rick another chance someday.”
“He said that?”
“No. I know Thomas though. He’s too good to hold onto that crap. It might not be for six months or a year but it’ll happen eventually.”
“Well I think he’s a dick,” said your dad. “But if TJ wants to give him a chance, we’ll give him a chance.”
“Thanks for being his dad too,” you said.
“I love the kid,” he said, throwing his arm over your shoulders. “So what are you two gonna do with all that money?”
“Pay off the last of the lawyer fees, pay off a big chunk of what’s left on the mortgage. When that set design comes in then we won’t owe too much more on the house,” you said. “Speaking of which, I gotta go to work on it.”
“Y/N? Use some of that money and take a nice vacation with the kids. Or even just a long weekend away for you and TJ.”
“We really ought to use it for stuff like the house,” you said.
“Have you and TJ ever taken a vacation just the two of you?”
“Of course. We went on our honeymoon.”
“That doesn’t count. The answer’s no, isn’t it.”
“Dad, I don’t need-”
“Maybe you don’t but somebody in that pool needs to have some fun. Plan a little trip away next month,” he said.
“He’s always wanted to go to Mardi Gras,” you said with a smile.
“You guys would have a blast and I got some pull down there and all. Come on. Let me spoil my grandkids for a weekend.”
“Alright, alright. You’ve convinced me,” you said.
“You mind if the twins have dinner with you guys?”
“We’re actually going to the Pads for dinner. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind more though. You got a hot date?”
“Getting a private college tour with mom and JJ,” he said. “Ya’ll can stop growing up anytime you want you know.”
“She wants to live at home you know.”
“Really?”
“Contrary to her teenage angst as of late, she does love us. Just you know, drop the curfew like you did with me.”
“And we get texts when you stay out.”
“That’s what you thought,” you mumbled. He raised an eyebrow and you shrugged. “I let you know when I wouldn’t be home that night. You didn’t need to know my exact whereabouts.”
“When’s the first time you stayed over TJ’s?”
“Fall of Freshman year in his dorm,” you said.
“Never mind. I don’t need to know,” he said.
“Yup. Let her have fun when she gets there, she’s smart,” you said. “Plus you know she’ll call me if shit happens. Also she has a year and a half of high school left. Relax.”
“At least I know Tom will keep an eye on her too.”
“Already planning the wedding?” you smirked.
“Shut up,” he said, ruffling your hair. “Make sure he gets this.”
He dug into his back pocket and took out an envelope, handing it to you.
“Thanks,” you said quietly. “Dad?”
“Mhm,” he said as he stood.
“Can you invite him on your fishing trip this weekend with grandpa?”
“Already did,” he said, nodding down at the envelope. “I’ll talk to you soon, tall munchkin.”
“Later dad,” you said, TJ giving him a wave as he headed out. You left the letter on the patio table and went over to the pool, slipping into the shallow end.
“Everything good?” he asked.
“Yeah. My dad left you a letter,” you said, Allie swimming off on her own, doing circles around TJ. He nodded and got out of the pool, drying off some before he went to the table and sat down. “Time for a snack.”
You scooped her up and swung her around in the water, throwing her up your hip. You walked out with her, setting her down to dry her off some.
“Is daddy okay?” she asked.
“Yeah,” you said. “Why don’t you change back into some clothes and we’ll get Colin and snack time going.”
She rushed over to TJ and smiled up at him, TJ tucking her hair behind her ear.
“Daddy snack time!” she said.
“I’ll be inside in just a minute, sweetie,” he said. He leaned over and kissed her head, pushing her back towards you. You patted her inside, TJ rubbing his thumb over his lip as he read.
“Take your time, babe,” you said. You kissed his cheek and he nodded. “I’ll leave some tissues just inside the door in case.”
“Thanks,” he said. “Give me five minutes and I’ll be there.”
“Take all the time you need. I got these two,” you said. He nodded and smiled. “Love you.”
“Love you too, Y/N.”

Prompt 89 for Brettsey 🙂
This fic is partially inspired by @katie-049's fic "Sprucing Up Chicago" (which is a very good thing because wow I'm obsessed with her AU seriously go check it out). Hope you enjoy this :)
89. "You're holding back."
Sylvie swears she isn't a violent or angry person.
It's three weeks after Julie's died. She'd cried in Matt's arms, been comforted by Stella-- hell, she's been comforted by her own damn parents. And it's helped, sure, but there's still residual pain left over. She's still processing the fact that she's gone. That after a lifetime of getting nothing, of always wondering who her birth parents were, Sylvie only got a month with her before she passed. It makes her angry.
People can't control when they die. Julie didn't mean to die, didn't choose to leave like this. But Sylvie deserved time from her, and she can't help but feel like Julie for dying before at least giving Sylvie a proper amount of time with all the answers she'd needed. It's not Julie's fault though. It truly isn't. So why is Sylvie still so heartbroken? And why is she mad?
Matt texts her on one of their days off though, tells her he wants to meet her somewhere. She agrees to it, not because he insists that it will help her, but because she really just wants to see Matt. He's always there for her when she needs it the most, to the point where she finds herself needing him a lot. Hell, who is she kidding? It's not just a need anymore. She wants him-- in every sense of the word, unfortunately.
But that's not the point of today. Today, according to Matt, is about helping her heal a little.
She pulls up to the address he'd texted her to meet him at and is a little surprised. It's some random, run of the mill house except it has tarps on its windows and the white picket fence is severely damaged.
"Hey," he greets her from the front porch of the house. He's in jeans an a t-shirt, which isn't out of the ordinary for Matt, but he's sweaty and there are subtle streaks of dirt on his arms and shirt. It makes him look rugged and messy-- and admittedly, very attractive.
"Hi," she replies in a mousy squeak. "What, uh. What are we doing here, exactly?"
"Right," he remembers, pointing back at the house while keeping his eyes on her. "Well, this is one of my projects for my contracting business."
"And you thought I'd like drilling things? Being a working man, sing a few Springsteen songs?" She guesses amusedly.
"No," he laughs breathily. "This house is being renovated completely. Come on, I'll show you."
What happens next is a terrifying, wonderful surprise. Matt motions toward the house with his head, then grabs her by the hand and leads her inside. His hand doesn't let go the entire time, even as he's opening the door. It's calloused and sweaty from the work she knows he must have been doing on the place, but it's warm. It fits perfectly into hers and it makes her heart skip a beat.
The moment's over before she can even register it though. He pulls his hand away when they walk inside the house and up to the series of bare walls and counters surrounded by tarps and sawdust.
What the hell is happening?
"It's demolition day," he explains to her with a slightly proud smile on his face. It makes her chuckle a little.
He picks up two sledgehammers and protective glasses off one of the counters. "I figured," he explains as he hands her one of the hammers. "This might help you blow off some steam. Normally, I take Severide on these kind of things but his life's not all that bad right now. You need this more than he does."
"Wow," she awes, looking around at the place. "I... I don't know, Matt. I'm not really one for smashing."
"It's a lot more fun than you think, I promise," he assures her. He hands her the second pair of goggles and she gives him a hesitant look for a minute. Eventually, she caves in. Who knows? Maybe this will be fun. She's trusted Matt before and has never once been disappointed, she doesn't see why this will be any different.
"Ok," she sighs amusedly. "Let's do this, Matt Casey."
Matt moves to inspect one of the walls they need to demolish and, when he finds the proper hollow spot through a series of knocks, he points at the spot and then backs away. "You can swing right there. Give it your best shot, Brett."
Sylvie giggles, moves to the wall, and whacks it with her hammer-- a little half-assed, if she's being honest. She's still adjusting to this lovably strange idea Matt had, so she isn't in the full swing of it yet.
"You're holding back," he points out, tilting his head to the side in mock disapproval. "Come on, hit it hard, Sylvie. I know you can do it. You're angry, right?"
"I'm not angry," she protests meekly, her eyes drifting off seriously. "You can't be mad at someone for dying, that doesn't make any sense."
"Of course it does," he counters supportively. "It's okay to be angry, that's part of the grief. Don't shy away from it. Own it."
"Right, okay." She nods, hyping herself mentally. "I can do this."
She stares at the wall intensely, until she locks eyes with the spot she needs to hit and sends the end of the sledgehammer through the wall with a loud, cathartic thwack!
It's a blur of rage. She whacks it once, then twice, three times. When she pulls away, there's a huge, gaping hole in the wall where a cluster of paint and drywall used to be. She stares at it in shock.
She hasn't done something like that since she was a teenager, helping her dad out with farm work in Fowlerton.
She hasn't done this whole "smash therapy" thing before. It's strange, but delightful. It helps the residual pain, anger, and grief flood away into the air along with the specks of dust. Eventually, she forgets the anger ever existed.
"Did I just do that?" She asks, pointing at the hole in the wall in bewilderment.
Sylvie turns to Matt and sees him staring at her with delightful surprise. "You did, yeah," he nods.
"I did that," she repeats, soaking it in. "I actually did that."
"How did it feel?"
"Ugh, so good!" She's ramped up on excitement and adrenaline and, before she knows it, she's practically slamming herself into Matt and wrapping her arms around him in a hug. He laughs, but it quickly becomes awkward so she pulls away. "Sorry," she apologizes after a while. "I got excited there."
"No need to be sorry," he replies bashfully, scratching at the back of his neck and clearing his throat. "I'm just-- I'm glad I could help."
"Yeah," she nods, smiling warmly at him. His gaze is intense and for a moment, she's reminded of just how much she truly cares for Matt. And, admittedly, just how much she wants to be with him-- even if she'll never admit it.
He really is just glad he could help. He means that. He always is.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 2 recap: Hye-jin tries to be more sincere to her new neighbors. Her clinic ended up being a success, thanks to Dusik. Looks like they met before in the past too.
The episode begins with a surrounding view of the ocean closing to night time. Then the morning comes with Hwa-Jung being busy with what looks like accounting matters. She then opens a folded paper that states her divorce mutual consent with her husband. Those are some of the moments she said that she regrets.
Another Gongjin resident Oh Chunjae is also going through his recorded tapes. Seems that he used to be a recording artist back at the 90s as he was reminiscing with his 2nd album casset demo. I wonder how he never made it. We were then shown with Dusik getting something out of closet, a black suit and he's looking at it pensively with a sigh. Minah finally opens her clinic but ended up sighing. Goes to show no matter what decisions you decided to take, you can never turn back the clock.
We go back to 2 weeks ago, Dusik enters the Chongho Scuba Diving shop with Hyejin in toe. They were checking out the possible office spaces. Dusik showed her a office space that has a nice view of the ocean. Hyejin though is not satisfied as she has requirements for her office, not just for a nice view. Despite not being satisfied she is running out of options. Dusik showed her a better option with a bigger space but the style is old fashion as its more ecofriendly. The interior isnt style. She wants a more antique european style. I dont think you could find that in Gongjin. Dusik offered her offwhite wallpaper isntead that is the simplest thing he could offer trhat's close to her taste. Hyejin is worried though in hoping that Dusik and Hwajung may end up scamming her because she's not from the countryside. Hwajung reassures her by saying that everyone knows the both of them. They could never scam anyone. She revealed her card and states that she's a zone chief. They show more proof and the office space that she just saw is the unit that Hwajung planned to save if ever she opens up her 2nd restaurant. Although, with the goodness of her heart she offered it to Hyejin because she thinks that the whole town needs a dental clinic and its much more valuable. Dusik tried to leave but Hyejin stops him by stepping on his foot.  They officially signed the contract as landlady and tenant. Hwajung then pays Dusik for 4 hours worth of work. Dusik ended up following her back. She owes him 17k won worth. Dusik offers services for renovating and shows her all his certified liscences. Hyejin ended up in shock and thinks he's weird. She's back in Seoul packing her things and showing her friend where she's moving.
Hyejin finally travels back to Gongjin looking content and satisfied while driving. The locals are curious as to who is moving in. Someone is moving into Ms Seo's house. The locals thought its a joke that she's a dentist although she really is one. She finally settles in and calls her parents updating them about her moving status. She even puts up her family portrtait. Dusik then visits her late at night to verify her registration. Dusik tells her the neighborhood rules and things she should know. Since Dusik was the one who set up the house, he sets up the door lock code too which ended up being his birthday. We now know that he's a year older than her and she accidentally calls him 'oppa' she instantly feels weird about it after Dusik asking if its a hint of affection. He says that he doesnt want any of it. She then asked him where the nearest coffee place is. In order to work she needs coffee to start her day and the only one nearby is the 4000won coffee stop, HAHAHA. She feels traumatized already and refuses to come back there. Dusik says let bygones be bygones as they're her new neighbors now, she has to get used to them despite the wrong introductories. She said she doesnt mind but the coffee is awful. The word has spread of a new dentist in town, the elderly talks about going for a visit. While running, Dusik finally renovated her dentist office and Hyejin complimented his work on a job well done. The villagers saw her running with the joggings but since they live in the village so long they do not know that its workout gear in the modern era. they ended up in shock. Hwajung stops by at Hyejin's to check up on her and is impressed by the renovation.
She then invites her to a party for the elderly the next day. Hyejin looks uncomfortable and tells her that she'll check her schedule, although Hwajung tells her to stop by even if she's busy. Its a way to introduce herself as a neighbor and to promote her clinic. Hyejin then sits with the elderly ladies, Gamri offers her bread wrapped with kimchi by the hand but Hyejin declines it, that's a wrong impression right away for someone who wants to promote her clinic. It comes off as rude. Hwajung comes to her aid and tells her if she needs any help to let her know because she rented 2 of her properties. Hyejin starts complaining about the minor details of her office space and Hwajung looks at her with a stunned expression. The rest of the village people started introducing themselves and offers help. They all stood up and she's left alone with the cafe owner Chunjae. He continues to promote his failed 1993 song to her as well as his life story on how he ended up in Gongjin. She starts to get annoyed and lose appetite and left. She starts complaining on how they're eating out in the open and its unsanitary. Being a dentist makes her become OC with the cleanliness but she doesn't have to be rude about the food either. The village people were trying to be nice to her. Dusik tells her she's fussy and picky. Tells her why cant she see the good things around her. Good point. Dusik trying to show her the good things about Gyongjin but she isnt listening to him.
The speaker ended up with a sound issue and Chunjae stopped singing. Hyejin was ended up exposed on loud speaker complaining that she should've stayed in Seoul. Uh oh. This is so embarassing. The mic at the office she's in is open. I'd be so embarassed to show my face infront of them after badmouthing them behind their backs. They may be annoying but dont be rude. Hyejin realized what happened quickly and Dusik was the most disappointed person in the room. Dusik defends her that she's just doing is ignorant blabbing, tells Chunjae not to take it seriously. She then decides to open applications for new employee recruitment for her clinci. She then receives a delivery from Dusik. Tells him that he does everything for the village. Dusik tells her that she thinks she knows everything just because she got good grades and has a good paying job. Just because she was able to get through the small bumbs she decides to act bigger than everybody else. Just because she freely judges the village people's lives but when its her life she's offended especially when she's being assessed. Dusik stating facts, life isnt fair for everybody. Dont judge on people's shortcomings just because you passed yours. Someone ran the doorbell and her best friend Miseon surprisingly visits her. It was revealed that her partner ended up cheating on her. Miseon tells her to take down the classified ad and offers herself to work for Hyejin. Her first day at the dentist finally started and nobody has visited. They're bored out of their minds, went out and tried to think of ways to promote the dentist. The village ended up ignoring her whenever she's trying to greet them. She deserves this and Miseon notices that everyone else is ignoring her.  Dusik observes her from afar looking worried and she finally tells Miseon what happened. Her friend immediately tells her to move out to avoid the red expenses and not to end up like her dad. Dusik then sees her jogging at night. Dusik advices her to at least meet with the village's expectations halfway. Be part of them. She needs to get acustomed and Dusik tells her that people make mistakes. She didnt know that the mic was turned on. He tells her not to worry as they all badmouth other people once in a while. He also tells her that since both sides are even she can move forward from this incident and start fresh. She then offers the rice cakes to the neighborhood as a way of apology. Not every delivery ended up smoothly. She ended up meeting the 2 kids from the last time. They asked for a favor to take care of their pet as they couldnt but Hyejin declined politely. She recommended Chief Hong but even Hong declined. She thought why would he ignore a child's request if he's acting high and mighty. The word has spread around even to children, they talk about how she's a cold-hearted person and this hurt Hyejin. She has no choice but to take care of the pet.
Dusik visits Chunjae and sees that he threw away his 2nd album demo casset. Dusik pays Hyejin a visit. Tells her off thinking that handing out rice cakes is enough for the village to forget about what she's done. She has to do more and be more sincere. Dusik offers his help and doesnt want her business to tank. She cant avoid them forever and Dusik invites her to a neighbor meeting. Hyejin tells him that they're all strangers and asks for support but Dusik sends her off and for her to do it alone with courage. Theyre still offended that Hyejin's standards are not met and they're surprised that she even attended. Dusik saves her by bringing snacks which were made by her. Dusik makes an excuse for her that she was edgy on moving and wants to apologize by preparing some food. The meeting is about a cleaning project they have to do and thanked Hyejin for her snacks. After the meeting Hyejin thanked him and is surprised that he ended up caring so much. Dusik gives her the bill with the snacks he bought and tells her to wire him the money. Hwajung shows up to her home and tells her to attend the weekly cleanup, she says that she just moved and as an excuse it was satisfying. But then Dusik ended up bothering her by his constant door knocking and bell ringing. She even faked her sickness but Dusik is not having it. He's acting like a strict father and forces her to join the cleaning.
A first visitor finally visited the clinic and its Euncheol. Then more visitors started coming in. Looks like a new leaf has turned. Euncheol reported back to Dusik about her treatment and the cost saying that its reasonable. Dusik visits Chunjae and tells him that his song has been imported digitally. Chunjae tells him that he shouldnt focus on the past anymore and move forward to the future. Chunjae asks for a favor from Dusik to teach him how to properly make coffee. We then see that the clinic is becoming more busy and it looks like its gearing towards sucess. They ended up with a satisfying and exhausting day. Although they suddenly thought how overnight their dentist clinic became a success and for sure Hyejin believes it's all thanks to Dusik. Hyejin bumps into Chunjae and tells him that the title track isnt her favorite but favors another and apologizes with his story. She asked where Chief Hong is and looks like his mood suddenly cheered up with her truthful compliment. Chunjae went back and listened to the track Hyejin liked. Hyejin gave him the confidence. She then finally has found Dusik sitting at the top of a small hill nearby the water.
Hyejin thanks Dusik for the many patients she received today. The ep ended up with her climbing the small rock hill but ended slipping and Dusik saved her from falling. A flashback of Dusik spending time with his grandfather. They spot a family and the father asked a favor to take a picture of them. Dusik tries to cheer up Hyejin and she ended up smiling for the photo. Is this why Dusik likes spending time with the elderly? Its because of the memories he has with his grandfather? They met before.
Du Sik is really Chief Hong. While everyone was shunning Hyejin and talking behind her back, he was the only one who became a leader and guide for her. He pointed out her mistake and encouraged her to do better, be more sincere to others.

CapSwap - Chapter 1
Read on AO3
Summary: Taylor Kelly is back at the 118 and she’s producing a new TV Show where Bobby Nash and Owen Strand will trade places for an entire month. Bobby will fly to Austin to take over the 126 when Owen will be the Captain at the 118.
Or a dad swap between the two Daptain.
Word Count: 2640
Chapter: 1/?
When Bobby Nash received a call from the fire chief, he expected another suspension. It’s the only thing that comes to his mind now when the highest-ranking member of the department personally asked to talk to him. To be fair, the 118 had its fair share of suspension and Bobby is driving to the fire chief office, wondering which one of his team is going to be benched again. None of them deserve it, but life keeps throwing them curveballs so Bobby is just expecting the next one. They are all doing fine lately, at least at work. Sure, half of them still need some serious therapy to get through their trauma, but Bobby trusts them to deal with it. He is about to enter the office when he sees a small red-haired woman talking to the chief and laughing with him. Bobby can barely see her face, but he recognized her voice and he is annoyed already. She is finally leaving the office and the chief waves at Bobby to enter.
“You remember Taylor Kelly?” the chief asks. Bobby is surprised to see him smiling this way. He knows he should be relieved because it probably means that no one is getting fired, but a reporter is never good news for him.
“It’s kind of hard to forget her and her cameras,” Bobby says. He is trying his best to keep his tone respectful while addressing his superior.
“Her news report about the 118 did great for public relations”, he explains. “The department had to cut some parts they didn’t like, but otherwise it helped with public opinion.”
“Do you want her to make another video? Because I know you liked her work but I can’t say I was happy having her around” Bobby says.
“You won’t have to worry about Taylor” the chief replies and Bobby is relieved for a moment. But then he opens his mouth again and the relief is short-lived. “You will be going to Austin,” he says and Bobby’s jaw drops. “Miss Kelly had a great idea to improve public opinion. You will swap places with another captain for a month. We already cleared everything with the other department. They are sending their captain on Monday” he adds, leaving no room for argument.
“Chief, with all due respect” Bobby tries.
“Captain Nash, your station has not the best records at the moment.” he cuts.  “Between your suspension and Mr. Buckley’s lawsuit, you are not in our good grace. Take this as a chance to redeem yourself in the eyes of the public and in my eyes too,” he says firmly. “This is happening whether you like it or not.”
“My family is here, you can’t uproot me without my permission.”
“It’s only for a month. So I suggest you start packing because you are leaving in a few days. Unless you are willing to add insubordination to your list.”
Bobby is about to walk out of the office when the chief adds “It’s going to be a good experience for you and your team. Don’t see this as a punishment, use it as an opportunity to learn a thing or two. I’m sure AFD will be happy to have you there.”
Taylor is still in the hallway when Bobby leaves the office, but he ignores her and goes back to the station.
He explains the situation to the team as soon as he arrives. They are all around the table, waiting for a breakfast that wasn’t cooked since Bobby wasn’t there to feed them. Eddie is the first to react to the news.
“Wait, Taylor Kelly is coming back here?” he says much to everyone’s surprise.
“Well, I didn’t think that would be the part that bothers you” Bobby teases. “I’m glad you are not too sad about having another captain here.”
“Of course I’m sad, Cap,” Eddie adds.
“I’m not excited about this either, but we don’t have much of a choice. The chief sent me the contracts, the cameras won’t be here all the time. They just want to produce an entertaining piece about how a different captain can change things in a station but I think it’s mostly an excuse for Taylor to step up her game”.
“It looks like she already did Cap”, Buck says. “She was always ambitious and that’s one of the things I learned to respect about her. She went from traffic reports to news reports to producing her own show.”
Buck complimenting the woman that went Buck 1.0 on him and leaving him in a parking lot was not something Bobby thought he’d ever seen but he was even more surprised by the murdering look on Eddie’s face.
“What do we know about the new cap?” Hen asks.
“I’m going to Austin, so I think that’s where the new guy is coming from.” Bobby answers. He sits on the table next to them and handles all of them the contracts to sign. He didn’t really read them in the chief office before being practically forced to sign his copy. But now that he has his in his hand and a hot-barely-drinkable coffee in the other he reads a paragraph that makes him want to spit his coffee. “What the hell?” he screams to himself but everyone raises their head from their reading to look at their captain.
“Everything’s okay Cap? Buck asks, a little worried. The youngest member didn’t even bother to grab his own contract and was reading from Eddie’s as he was close enough to see it. Both his hands were filled with food anyway.
“The Captain of the 118 would live at the Strand’s house for the duration of the contract” Bobby reads, voice higher than he would have hoped.
“Does this mean you will have to live with his wife or something?” Chimney asks, his curiosity is picked and he is dying to know more about what already appears to be a month of chaos and fun.
“His boy,” Bobby says. “It says that the Captain from the 126 added a clause in the contract saying that he didn’t want his son to be alone and that he wanted me to keep an eye on him. I’m going to babysit a teenager?” Bobby assumes. “Thank God the firehouse is the only place I’m exchanging with him because I wouldn’t want to come home to Athena to tell her that some stranger would live under her roof.”
The rest of the shift goes back without any major surprise. Every time they come back to the house in between calls, Chimney is on his laptop, googling things and laughing, Eddie is even closer to Buck, questioning him about Taylor Kelly even as they step into the showers after a call that left them covered in ashes and sweat and Hen is talking to Bobby while keeping an eyes on the boys, already guessing how insufferable the three of them will be on Monday.
When Bobby comes home after a long, mostly boring, shift, he feels anxiety building in his stomach at the idea of having to break the news to his wife and her kids. He waits for the diner to be over to start talking.
“So, the Chief called me into his office this morning,” he says first.
“Everything’s okay? Nothing to do with Buck I hope? I swear, this boy has been giving me more gray hair in 3 years than my kids in a lifetime.”
“Buck’s fine. His ex girlfriend, though.” Bobby starts.
“Abby? She was a sweet woman, until she broke our boy’s heart.”
“Taylor Kelly.”
“The news reporter?”
“It’s Taylor Kelly, the TV productor now. She pitched an idea to the Chief and he signed for it with a big smile.”
“What idea? She’s not gonna film you again, is she?” Athena says in the same annoyed tone than Bobby.
“I like her” May says before her brother hits her arm for her to stop talking. “What? She’s good. She did some very interesting news pieces and she gave a lecture to my school to encourage young students to go to college.”
“So what did that angel of a woman did for my husband to look so pissed?”
“She’s producing a show called the Swap.”
“I’ve seen an episode” the young woman cuts again. “She had doctors trade hospitals to show how leadership can affect a place. It was great! One of them was super uptight and-” she stopped talking when her eyes met Bobby’s. “Oh shit.”
“Langage!” Athena says. “Is there something I’m missing?”
“She’s doing a firefighter version. And I guess I’m the very uptight one.”
Of all the reactions he imagined all day, the only one he didn’t imagine was the sound of his wife bursting into laughter.
“Sorry” she says, covering her mouth to stop the loud noize coming out of it. “Sorry, it’s not funny.”
“It’s really not” Bobby says.
“I’m just trying to picture you in that show, with a new team. And oh god, that poor captain is not ready to handle the 118.”
“Hey, they’re a great team.”
“They’re your kids, Bobby. You love them and I do too. They are great at their jobs.”
“They’re the best,” Bobby corrects.
“But they are also a bunch of living disasters. How long has it been since one of them ended up in the hospital? I hope the new cap doesn’t like his hair too much, because he’s gonna end up with a head full of gray hair within the first week.”
“I was hoping a little more empathy for your poor husband who’s gonna live in Texas for a month with the son’s captain as a roommate.”
“You’ll do great, honey. I’m not worried about you.”
Meanwhile, a thousand miles away.
“Are you serious, dad? Please tell me you’re kidding me.” TK whines. He places his mug on the sink and walks toward Owen who is waiting for him by the door to go to work.
“It will be a nice change, TK. Plus, the department told me I didn’t really have a choice since they needed the money to pay for the House renovation I ordered. Apparently I went a little over the budget.”
“You spend half the budget on that fancy coffee maker Judd can’t even get to work without your help.”
“Stop complaining and move your ass to the car or we’ll be late. I hope you’ll complain less when the new cap is here cause he’ll be the one driving your whining ass to work.”
“He what?”
So maybe Owen forgot to mention that part. It was the only thing that had him hesitate before saying yes, he promised he wouldn’t leave his son alone after what happened in New York. He tried to negotiate for his son to come with him but the productors insisted only the captain could come, so he only managed to have the other captain to live with his son at all time. He also knew TK wasn’t alone anymore, he saw the way Carlos looked at him the day he came picking him up at the station. He knows he will be fine but he’s not taking any chances when it comes to his boy safety.
When they both arrive at the station, Mateo has a hot cup of coffee ready for Owen and TK goes to the kitchen to make himself his own cup. Judd is fighting with the machine and holds his hands up in defeat.
“I give up. This thing hates me, I swear.”
“Someone is in a mood” Marjan laughs from her spot in the kitchen where she’s cooking something for breakfast.
“You’re about to be in a mood when you hear the cap’s latest idea.” TK comments. He’s about to drink the coffee he just poured himself when he sees Judd’s puppy eyes. “Did Buttercup teach you that trick? I’m not rubbing your belly if that’s what you want.” The dog comes to his favorite firefighter and TK gives his coffee to Judd. “Fine, you can have mine, but only because my hands will be busy doing this.” He says while starting petting the dog.
“So, what’s that idea of yours, cap?” Paul asks.
“First, it’s not my idea, it’s the department.” Owen says. “Second, don’t listen to my grumpy son, it will be fun.”
“What would be fun?” Judd asks, definitely not convinced but his captain enthusiastic tone.
“Go ahead, tell them cap, we’ll see if they are all as thrilled as I am” TK says.
“I’m going to Los Angeles for a month.”
“For a vacation or something?” Marjan asks.
“For a damn TV show,” TK cuts.
“A what?” they all ask pretty much at the same time.
“It’s a captain exchange. I will go to  a new station for a month and their captain will come here.”
“Maybe we’ll get a captain that knows how to read a book” Michelle comments, thinking about the first time they met. He didn’t realise that she had arrived. She has a wide smile on her face and Owen counts this as a sign that she’s enjoying the idea, maybe a little too much. “So, who’s that new captain I’m gonna share the station with?”
“Robert Nash, from Los Angeles’ station 118” Owen replies and Judd and Paul share a look. They are definitely taking note of that guy name to google for info later. “The cameras would be here a few hours a day so you need to sign those contracts.”
“And if we refuse?” Judd asks.
“From what I heard, it’s not like we have much of a choice. But I’m sure you’ll love the new guy.”
“I’m sure we will. But what if we want to keep him at the end of the month?” Michelle teases.
“Then I guess I’ll stay in LA, with a team that respects and loves me.”
“We love you,” Mateo says.
“Speak for yourself, probie. I might call Robert Dad within the first shift.” TK jokes.
“Remember everything you’ll do can be caught on camera. I’ll know everything. And I know at least one person will miss me.” Owen says. He walks toward Mateo who’s smiling proudly and puts his hand on his shoulder, before bending to stroke Buttercup “You’re my favorite teammate, buddy.” He says to the dog. The team laughs at the disappointed looks on the youngest member’s face before hearing the alarm.
“Do we know anything about the other firehouse?” Paul asks when they climbed into the truck.
“We? We don’t. But I do. They gave me a file with the resume of each member of the 118.”
“Come on, Cap. You’re not gonna share that with us?” His son says.
“Nop. That’s what you get from not liking my ideas, son.”
Paul and Judd exchange another look and TK knows that they are plotting something. It’s not like Owen is the best at hiding secrets and they all know that file will be on the second drawer of his desk. They won’t even need a distraction to get it since their captain will spend half an hour in the mirror when they’ll get back to the station after this call.
Marjan is driving toward the emergency they are responding to when all the phones except Owen’s start buzzing.
Paul sent a bunch of pictures in their group chat. Owen knows this chat exists and assumes he’s the subject of half the jokes and memes they are sending but he loves that his team gets along so well so he really doesn’t care about it. This time, it’s not him they are laughing at. Paul just sent them pictures and infos about Robert Nash. TK tries not to smile when he reads the texts.

The Neighbour [0.4]
Tumblr media
Masterlist
The first thing Eva did when she came home was finish downloading the rest of Palaye Royale's discography. It was as though pushing the arrow on the saturation scale and suddenly her apartment with skeleton white walls and empty shadows was bursting with a new variety of rich colors. Songs that pulled back the whites in her eyes and forced open her ears to this new euphoria that was rattling through her brain and body like a pinball game.
The band's music drifted through the apartment for the rest of the night, tracks on a loop that was sure to make the tenants upstairs despise her. By the time she finished cooking dinner for herself she was lost in the cynical poetry of Warhol, entranced by the echoing of Remington's rasping screams that were never out of tune. And while she was supposed to be working on her latest article, Eva was instead watching the video for Lonely, the entire time feeling like her throat had been ripped out by a bare fist and forced to watch it beat out.
All in all, Dying in a Hot Tub took the crown for favorite. On a Saturday night, when she would usually be out with friends and drinking her problems away at the local bar, Eva was dancing through her apartment, pretending to sing along to the miserable and comprehensive words. A glass of cheap white wine sat on the counter, aiding in her inhibitions for having a rock concert in her living room. Pluto wasn't having any of it, retreating to his bed and ignoring her for most of the night.
Meanwhile, holed up in his own bedroom Remington scrolled through the Tumblr blog that Eva told him about: posts filled with poetry and proses that had him hooked as sure as he was doing drugs. Each post told a story, ranging from questions about her femininity, difficulties in growing up with an absent mother and a know-it-all dad, the first boy she had who humped and dumped her after prom. Remington wanted to read it all, falling deeper into the rabbit hole of Eva Kuznetsov.
His focus shifted from text to music when he heard a familiar sound: that sound being his own voice. The faint echo of words he was singing to crowds not months ago were suddenly swirling in the air, and when he turned to the complex, he found he had a clear view of Eva dancing away under the golden lights of her apartment. She had the screen door opened, not big enough for Pluto to squeeze through, but enough so he could hear the muffled music from his room. He knew he had pretty open access to Eva; he just didn't realize that he could see right into her space.
Which meant she could probably see into his room, too...
It was mesmerizing to watch her, spinning, jumping, her hair pirouetting around the sharp edges of her perfect jaw, all the while smiling and pretending to sing along. It was the most endearing thing Remington had seen in a long time, watching the real Eva come to life. She was uninhibited by people and impressions, dressed down in a pair of little cotton shorts and her hoodie, she was absolutely crazy and perfect.
Mischief soon got the better of Remington and he reached for his phone, eagerly selecting her number and typing. Across the way, Eva stopped dancing when the music dipped, indicating that she received a text on her phone. Brushing her winded hair out of her face, she grabbed her phone off the desk, her face going beet red when she was Remington's text:
Nice dance moves, Frances Houseman
She glanced up through the glass sliding door, mortified when she realized Remington could see her this whole time. Illuminated by the glow of the street lamp, his boyish smile seemed to shine brighter, clearly amused with this late-night entertainment. She took a deep breath and turned down the volume of the music, trying to collect herself.
How much of that did you see?
He responded not even ten seconds later:
Enough to know your hips clearly don't lie.
Shut up
And if I may ask, why are you looking through my window?
I can't help it. I'm vain enough that I get distracted by my own damn voice
Or you're just a fucking creeper
The fact that you haven't closed the curtain tells me you don't seem to mind an audience ;)
A familiar warmth spread through the pit of her stomach and Eva began to giggle uncontrollably; like a child that had been caught stealing a cookie from the jar and was so on edge she couldn't help but laugh. Stupid her for not closing the curtain.
Well I'm sorry, but the show is over now
She then went to the window to close the curtain, flipping off the smirking blonde as she shut out the rest of the world. Remington only laughed to himself, quickly texting back:
But the memories will live on in my brain
Fuck you, Leith!!
I think you should buy me a drink first, Kuznetsov
Eva just shook her head as she read his last message, downing the rest of her wine with a rose-tinted cheeks. Even with the music off, she still had Remington's soft raspy voice ringing in her head as she decided it was time to turn in. She couldn't help but start singing to herself.
"But I'm dying in a hot tub, I'm dying in a hot tub with my cat!" she lunged down and pointed both hands at Pluto. Pluto was unfazed, just staring at her with an unemotive expression. Eva's smile turned into a scowl.
"Well, fuck you too, then,"

May brought the promise of vibrant flowers, bikini bodies and so many reasons for people to go out and mingle with their friends at the beaches and clubs.
Well... that was the case a year ago...
In Remington's mind, he and his friends had no need to go down to the beach and risk contracting Covid when he had a perfectly safe and clean pool and patio in his backyard. And within the last two and some weeks, he had succeeded in bringing Eva around more and more.
She got along great with everybody, which had Remington confused as to why she said she had it rough with friends. But everybody seemed to like her, and soon enough she had assimilated into their little pod. She started just with sitting outside with everyone, and when she was comfortable enough she came and hung out inside the house. Afternoons were either spent by the pool or watching TV shows and eating snacks. And the more she stayed over, the more Remington became fascinated with her.
Even Emerson and Sebastian couldn't deny that there was something about Eva that was unique; she was sparkplug of quick witticisms and lame jokes that people would laugh at just because she was so cute. She was mature way beyond her years, and yet she still had fun like a teenager trying to find themselves in high school. More than anything, the boys were curious to how close Eva and Remington were slowly becoming.
Remington liked hanging out in Eva's apartment. The environment held a different kind of vibe; like an aesthetic post you'd tag on Pinterest under a renovations gallery. But Remington was inside Eva's world, seeing the random art pieces she had hung on the walls and getting to hang with Pluto on the couch. He helped her bake when they couldn't think of anything else to do, and she always insisted he'd bring some home even when he assured her that he didn't need it. She was kind, homely, a woman with a clean soul and dirty mind who could make him laugh and didn't care when he openly belched after a soda.
Despite the pandemic, Remington was excited for his birthday. Any other time, he was at a bar or a house party with his friends, drinking until he couldn't feel his legs or ending up face-deep in a grimy toilet bowl. Even though the party wouldn't be as fun as it usually would be, Remington was looking forward to at least spend his birthday with his closest family and friends, only.
Eva wished she could have had the same optimism Remington did, but the Saturday before his birthday, she was none too pleased to find that the drain to her kitchen sink was leaking water. And apparently, it wasn't her landlord's job to come up and fix it for her.
"You want me to come take a crack at it?" Remington asked when Eva explained the situation.
Eva's phone was on speaker as she tried to navigate the utility box in the closet to turn off her water.
"Do you have experience in sink maintenance?" she asked.
"I don't," Remington admitted, "But that's what Youtube is for, right?"
Eva simpered, "As entertaining as it would be watch you destroy my sink, I respectfully decline,"
"You think too low of me, Eva," he whined.
"I just know you better than you think, Remington," she replied smartly, "I got a plumber coming by, anyway. And he can't get here 'til six for some reason so I'll be down a shower day,"
Remington's eyebrows furrowed down, "He's coming at six at night?" he asked.
"Yeah," Eva replied, seemingly clueless to the skepticism in his voice.
"What plumber makes house calls after five o'clock?" he said.
Eva stopped short, "Well, he's an independant freelancer. Makes his own hours, I guess,"
"You hired a fucking freelancer to come fix your sink?" he said incredulously.
"He's what I can afford," she replied.
"So he didn't come from an agency?"
"Nope!" Eva huffed, satisfied when she finally figured out how to turn off the water dial, "He came from Letgo,"
It was then Remington had a sinking feeling in his gut. He didn't blame Eva that she didn't want to splurge her money on a plumber, but the thought of her alone with a strange man -- who mostly carried a multitude of heavy tools -- made his hair stand on end.
"Maybe I'll come by and wait with you while he does the job," he said.
"Why?" Eva asked.
"Because you're a small girl letting a strange man into your apartment after hours," he replied.
Eva turned to her window, still having a firm view of Remington's empty, but messy bedroom, "You were a strange guy I let into my apartment," she countered.
"And now you have concrete proof that I'm not a creep, I'm just a little weirdo," he replied, "I'd just feel better being there with you, is all,"
Eva shrugged, understanding where he was coming from yet assuring herself that he was overthinking it, "I mean, if you wanna'... sure,"
"Great!" Remington grinned, "I'll be by before six,"
The early afternoon soon delved into the night, and just as he promised, Remington was at Eva's apartment ten minutes before six.
And the plumber was late.
Eva attributed it to traffic when the clock hit ten after, but then she was annoyed by twenty after. What was he possibly doing that he was twenty minutes late for a pay grab? Remington didn't say anything, though the knot in his stomach got tighter as the minutes ticked by. And when Eva assured him that he didn't need to stay, he simply shook his head and declined.
"The only way you're getting me out of this apartment is with a fucking pitchfork," he told her, smirking with pride. Eva only rolled her eyes.
It was finally quarter to seven when a battered, unlabelled black pickup truck pulled up in front of the complex. And just as Remington feared, a rather large man came falling out of the truck and started trudging his way inside. He carried no tools with him.
Both Remington and Eva had their masks on and the windows open as the plumber came inside. He was portly, older, and he wore the mask just under his nose; a particular pet peeve of Eva's. He was polite as he greeted the kids, narrowing his eyes at Remington. The whole time he was there, Remington made sure to keep Eva close to him.
"So, what seems to be the trouble?" the plumber asked, coming over to the sink but looking around slowly at the knick knacks and furniture within the apartment.
"Well, I'm not sure. It just started leaking all of the sudden," Eva shrugged.
The plumber glanced at the faucet, then took a look under the counter to the pipes. Eva began to understand why Remington was so eager to come over, now. He stayed well on his knees for longer than needed, not pulling out a flashlight to see in the dark shadows. Even Pluto seemed to sense something was off about this character, he leapt onto the top of the couch where he had a full vantage point of the typical case of plumber's crack.
The plumber finally sat back from his inspection, turning to the two kids, "I see what the problem is. I gotta' get my other tools from my truck, though," he said.
Eva and Remington glanced at each other with uncertainty, "... Okay," she drawled, "We'll, um -- we'll be here, I guess,"
"Okay," he forced himself back on his feet and exited out the door.
Not two seconds later, Remington heard the faint carry of voices in the hallways; a couple by the sounds of it. He took a look into the hall, indeed finding a pair of Eva's neighbours unlocking their door as the door to the stairwell slammed closed.
A few minutes passed, but Eva was confused when she heard the revving of an engine outside. She went to go look out her window, and sure enough, the black pickup truck was speeding away. Needless to say, she was shocked.
"What the fuck!?" she exclaimed, "He left!"
Remington came to look as well, not surprised but his fears quelled as he watched the truck disappear around the corner.
"Good," he said, "Truth be told, I'm pretty sure he wasn't here to fix the sink,"
Eva pulled her face mask off, "What, you think he wanted to rob me?" she asked.
"Or something a little more vile," Remington nodded, simultaneously pulling off his own mask, "He clearly didn't like the fact that I was here,"
Eva's face paled for a moment, now grateful she had let Remington in when he asked. How did he know, though?
"How did you know he wasn't legit?" she asked.
Remington scrunched his nose, "Well, first of all he's coming by at six -- well, seven o'clock on a weekend. Second of all, you found him on Letgo,"
Eva shrugged, "I don't trust Craigslist,"
"Because Letgo is any more reliable?" he raised his eyebrows with a petty grin, "This is the part where you say 'thank you for looking out for me, Remington',"
Eva narrowed her eyes at him, "Thanks for coming by, ya' smug shit," she glanced out the window again, "You think he's going to come back?"
"Not now that he thinks I'm here, too," Remington replied, "Like I'd leave my girlfriend alone with a strange guy at seven at night. In a fucking pandemic, too," he scoffed.
Eva looked at him quizzically, "... I'm not your girlfriend," she drawled.
"But he doesn't have to know that," he grinned back.
Eva had to admit, she was impressed. And moreover, quite grateful for Remington's persistence -- though she wouldn't tell him that.
"Aw, I have such a smart boyfriend!" she gushed sarcastically, clasping her hands together before going to fetch her Lysol spray.
Remington simply sat back down on the couch, feeling pretty damn good about himself now, "Anything for my baby!" he exclaimed happily.
"Shut up,"

i wanna know what love is - drabble
Pairing: rockstar! sebastian stan x writer!reader
Warnings: fluff + labour
Summary: Y/N goes into labour, Sebastian isn’t here.
A/N: someone asked me to do extra little chapters for i wanna know what love is and i’m here for it, so here it is
Tumblr media
(gif not mine, credit to creator)
     - I missed this. - Mary said as she walked into Y/N’s living room. To say that both her and Sebastian had been busy the past months was an understatement, they had been running side to side trying to fix the nursery for the baby’s arrival, renovating the study now that Y/N was gonna start working from home to Sebastian trying to clean up the garage so he could write new songs for the new album with the boys. In the middle of all, she hadn’t found the time to met up with Mary. - How far along are you?
    - Nine months but baby Stan is still not ready to make an entrance into the world.
    - I can’t believe you and Sebastian didn’t ask for the baby’s gender. It’s torture, Y/N. Torture. - she said patting her friend on the shoulder. It had been Sebastian’s idea not to ask for the baby’s gender, wanting it to be the surprise for when the baby was born. This is was why the baby’s nursery was light yellow along with the baby’s first clothing. There was so much yellow, that Y/N’s dad had nicknamed the baby, lemon. - Do you at least have any names?
   - Sebastian and I have a deal, he gets to name the baby if it’s a girl and I get to name the baby if it’s a boy.
   - That’s a terrible idea, he probably had slept with so many girls there are no more names available. You might as well go with baby Lemon. - she took a sip of wine, happy she could finally drink. During her pregnancy and then with the baby being born, what Mary missed the most was wine, specially the wine Y/N and Sebastian constantly had at their home due to Y/N’s colleagues and interviewees coming over. - Lemon Stan, what a name.
   - So funny. - Y/N rolled her eyes at her friend. - We got a photo from the last scan, do you wanna see it?
   - Bring it on. - Mary raised her glass at her friend as she wobbled to the kitchen. Her pregnancy had been a pain, probably the worse time of her life but what she hated the most was how she was wobbling everywhere and how Sebastian would constantly try and hide his laughter whenever she did so. She wanted the baby out as soon as possible but despite it being nine months and two weeks so far the baby seemed to be carefully and calmly waiting to make its entry. She had tried everything from herbal tea, spicy food, heck even sex and the baby did not budge, not even one bit.
Y/N forgot the fact that she was pregnant for two weeks longer than she should and put herself on her tippy toes to reach over for the baby photo album where Sebastian and her  kept all the baby scans so far, feeling all of skin stretch and suddenly something popped. She returned to her natural posture, eyebrows furrowed as she looked around until she felt something drip down her leg. Her eyes immediately lowered to the ground to see fluid start to pool on the ground.
   - Oh no. - she mumbled to herself, eyes still settled on the fluid on the floor.
   - Y/N, everything alright? - Mary walked into the study once Y/N took a bit too long only to see her looking at the fluid on the ground. - Oh my god, I’m gonna go call a taxi. Do you have any hospital bag? A pillow, maybe?
   - No. - Y/N said, taking a deep breathe in and leaving the study as if her water hadn’t just broke.
   - That’s alright, we can just grab a few bits while we wait for the taxi.
   - I’m not having this baby. - she sat back on the coach, arms crossed as she stared at her friend.
   - Well darling, you are, your water broke, baby’s coming.
   - I’m not having this baby when Sebastian is not here. No. The baby has been inside me for two weeks more, baby can wait a few hours until Sebastian returns from the recording studio.
   - Are you fucking insane?! - Mary screamed at her, bolting into her nursery. She had to have something for the hospital, after all it was Y/N, she lived for organisation and labelling so it hadn’t been easy to find a little white bag with a duck on it that had a label saying hospital. She grabbed it and took of to the living room, now finding Y/N holding her bump, a very terrified and pained look on her face. - I got your bag, now we’re gonna go to the lift and to the main floor so we can get you to the hospital.
   - Not without Sebastian. - she groaned at her, another contraction hitting her like a ton of bricks. Suddenly period cramps sounded way better than contractions. Mary rolled her eyes once again, grabbing her by the arm and pushing her up. - I’m not gonna do this without Sebastian, I’m not gonna have the baby without him.
   - I know you’re scared, honey but we really need to go. How about we just go to the hospital? You don’t need to have the baby right away, people are in labour for hours at the time, Sebastian is not that far.
   - It’s NY, even five minutes take five hours. - she said, curving her back once again as another contraction hit.
   - Honey, think of the baby, just get in the taxi.
Mary somehow got to take her out the penthouse and into the taxi, immediately tapping the driver to start driving before Y/N tried to make an escape. While she struggled with her contractions, Mary managed to send a quick text to Sebastian before returning to try and calm down Y/N which was definitely not working. Once they got into the hospital, she was sat on a wheel chair and rolled to the main entrance before Y/N decided to tell the taxi driver to turn around which she had tried, several times.
   - Hi, my friend just went into labour Y/L/N-Stan, Y/N. - she told the lady sitting at the desk.
  - I’m not going into labour, my water ju ... - she interrupted her own self as another contraction hit her.
  - It’s alright, sweetheart. Baby will come out in no time, no need to worry.
  - I’m not worried, my husband isn’t here so the baby won’t come out.
  - She’s a bit crazy. - Mary mumbled to the nurse who started to wheel her into a private labor room. Mary had made sure they booked a private room, no matter what, fully knowing what a shared labour waiting room hell she had been in when it was her baby. Once she got there, she was put into a pink hospital gown and placed onto the bed, waiting for the OBGYN to come. - No worries, Y/N. While Sebastian isn’t here, I’ll be your labour buddy.
Y/N whined once again, head thrown back as the contractions came back with a might. Mary looked through her bag, searching for something to help her with her contractions until she came in contact with a TENS machine.
  - You got a TENS machine? Aw man. - she handed the machine to Y/N who connected it to her bump sighting once the pain lowered a bit.
  - Sebastian gave it to me when we went for the first scan.
  - Clearly your husband is much more considerate than mine.
  - Mrs Y/L/N-Stan? - her OBGYN knocked on her door. - Seems like baby Stan finally decided to come out.
  - This baby is not coming out. - Y/N spoke up, glaring at her bump as if expecting her child to stop wanting to escape the confines it had been in for more than expected.
  - Let’s see shall we? - the doctor placed her feet on the metal bars on each side of the bed, before giving a concerned look to Mary. - You’re up to 10 cm, darling. You’re into labour, already.
  - No. - Y/N furiously nodded her head no. - It’s a no, it can stay there right? It doesn’t mean the baby is in prime position right?
  - Can I get a baby nurse? - the doctor went to the door and suddenly there were at least two more people into the room and her beloved TENS machine was being removed. Mary held her hand, patting her hair and pushing it out of her face. - Okay, darling. I want you to push now.
  - No. - Y/N buried her face in her pillow. - I don’t wanna do it without, Sebastian.
  - PUSH! - Mary yelled at her but Y/N who glared at her and if she wasn’t in labour, Mary wouldn’t be worried. She kept checking her phone but no messages for Sebastian no nothing. The doctor was about to start lecturing Y/N into why she had to start pushing, Sebastian came bursting into the door, stopping by her bed to regain his breathe. - PUSH NOW!
  - I’m here, baby, I’m here. - Sebastian took Mary’s place, kissing her hand as he shushed her away, not wanting anyone but him and his wife to be present for the birthing of the baby. Y/N looked at him and then at the doctors standing in front of her.
  - No. - she started to sob. - I don’t wanna have this baby, I don’t want my baby to have a stripper’s name.
  - What are you talking about? - Sebastian ignored the dirty looks coming from the medical team, combing through his wife’s hair.
  - You probably only know girl stripper names and I don’t want my baby to be named after a stripper you slept with.
  - Bunny, I won’t call our baby after a stripper. - he kissed the top of her head, trying once again to ignore the dirty looks from the medical team and making a mental note to tell Mary to stop traumatising his wife. - Don’t you wanna see our baby?
  - Yeah. - she nodded at him.
  - Are we gonna push now? - the OBGYN asked and Y/N nodded her head yes, hand strongly wrapped around her husband’s as she stared to push. Everything she could hear were doctors and nurses telling her to push and sometimes Sebastian wincing whenever she held his hand too strongly. Suddenly, all the push screams turned into cries, baby’s cries. She opened her arms to see the nurses placing the baby straight onto her chest and she couldn’t help but start crying. - Congratulations, it’s a boy.
  - Oh thank god. - Y/N said, hand coming to caress her baby boy’s head as some nurses cleaned him with some white blankets. - He’s not gonna have a stripper name.
  - Hi Jess. - Sebastian couldn’t help but tear up as the nurses wrapped the baby up in a blanket, handling the little bundle to him. He coed at his son, seeing his little hand coming to grab his finger which made him tear up even more. Suddenly all the wrongs of his life vanished as he held his son for the first time. - He’s perfect, bunny.
  - Let me see him. - Y/N extended her arms to hold her son, looking at his sleepy face that slowly began to open his eyes. He had her eyes, and all she could do was sob at him, at how perfect he was. - You’re so beautiful.
She was rolled onto her bedroom, Sebastian following close by, the hospital bag hanging from his shoulder. It was surreal to finally know he was having a son, to finally not call the baby Lemon, he was here and he was the most gorgeous thing he’d ever seen. They got settled into their room and Sebastian got to dress his son on his little yellow onesie. It didn’t take long for Mary to come into the bedroom.
  - Hi. - she said in a low tone, smiling at the new parents. - Let me see my godchild.
  - Mary, meet Jess. - Sebastian said, taking a seat in the bed next to his wife, his son wrapped in his little ducky blanket. The woman smiled in joy, looking at the baby on Sebastian’s arms. - I can’t believe you told Y/N I was gonna name the baby after a stripper.
  - Aw, shut up. Look at how cute your kid is.
  - It’s all Y/N. - he kissed the top of her head, passing on the bundle to her who slightly hugged him towards her chest. - Look at that, we made a hot baby.
  - Seb. - she slightly hit him in the arm. - Let’s not call our baby hot.
  - Can’t do, Y/N. That baby is just gonna break too many heart, I mean with your looks, your brains and my jokes. We made a heartthrob.
  - Your jokes aren’t that good.
  - Mummy is just trying to hurt daddy’s feelings now. - he coed at the baby, baby talking for the first time.
  - I love you, Seb. Thank you. - she leaned her head against his arm, eyes darting to see her son. - Just out of curiosity, what would have you named the baby if he had been a girl?
  - Marion. After Robin Hood’s Marion.
  - That’s very pretty, Seb. - she kissed his cheek. - Look at that, we made him. This is our baby, you’re a dad.
  - God, who allowed me to be a dad? - he chuckled. - You’re gonna be a great mum.
  - You’re gonna be a great dad.
