So here's a sick whump idea for you, ever heard of something called Costocondritis? The short explanation is basically an inflammation of the cartilage that connects the ribs to the breast bone it's very painful and gets worse with deep breathing and coughing and the cause is usually unknown but it can be caused by muscle strain or trauma.

From what my mom told me I've apparently caught it twice but I only really remember the one time I caught it which was ironically the week before I went on Christmas break when I was in Highschool. How it started out for me was that while I was ironically heading to gym class in the middle of the day when I suddenly felt like I couldn't breathe,I started to panic because everytime I did it felt like I was getting stabbed by a million tiny needles in/on my ribs everytime and I MEAN every time it HURT SO MUCH. It was bad enough that my mom was called and I was taken to hospital by her and I was diagnosed with it and I was down for the count for two whole weeks,I had a cough as well so that just made things suck more and I had to take medicine twice a day for it as well (they big pills too I hated them so much qwq).

The reason I'm sharing this? Imagine if poor Yuma caught this he's really small and the coughs I had wracked my body to the point where I only stayed on the couch or my bed and I only got up when nessassary so they'd probably be pretty bad for him too. QwQ

Ooooh~! That's so juicy!! I'm more a fever kind of girl with illnesses, but there's something about picturing/seeing Yuma absolutely wrecked by coughing every few seconds that is just exquisite to me. 👌

Also his body being tiny makes it so much better, his body would practically have palpitations every time he has a coughing attack. And not being able to move?? Heck yeah, he can be waited on by others and cared for <3 (also yes the trauma, this boy can fit so much of that into him)

Do you remember the last time you were sick?

To be honest, no, I don't remember, but I clearly don't like being sick, haha. What bothers me the most when I get sick is my itchy throat, stuffy nose, watery eyes, also, My mood also changes, it feels like I'm sad and depressed in bed.

I don't know if my immune system is as weak as Yuma's here, but I don't think so, It's a little difficult for me to get sick from something, At most, I sneeze every now and then, and some headaches, however, my mother didn't let me take a shower in the rain, Because she was sure that I would get sick the next day, and I had an event to go to at that time... I wonder if I would have gotten sick even if I had taken a shower in the rain.

Once the initial sickness is over its should be safe. Right now their body is trying to learn that it's okay or at least a way to fight off with out making them overly sick.

Any specific illness hcs you might have for makoyuma? 👀💊

i think fevers are the most common thing to happen to them, but they experience it differently. yuma is more prone to hot flashes, dizziness, and irritability while makoto is more prone to getting cold chills, headaches, and muscle weakness. makoto is also needier than yuma is once he accepts the fact that he's sick because he spends too much time trying to hide his needs that he goes a little overboard when delirious under someone's (esp yuma's) care

Yuma as a Doctor is something I did not expect but honestly it works just as well as if Makoto is one. Seems I get two similar yet opposite cake flavors of my boys, lucky me!

I like the detail you put in the artwork you chose lovely colors. Making it seem less like an illness art and more like aesthetic art of a couple (which I’m not surprised by since you ship the two xD) Kinda like an art you’d see as an extra of an anime or title page of a manga. Its still cute though

Don’t think I don’t notice the thermometer and compress on Makoto tho thats still cute!! And the IV fluid drip and cute striped pjs almost giving a more hospital theme~ And of course Yuma’s got that syringe of pink fluid~ (it contrasts well with the present I received from my twitter mutual with them in opposing roles. Showing Dr. Makoto with a syringe of red fluid :3 The blood contrast of the two is very nice!)

I favor the little sketch below sorely because it’s a lot more in tune with your usual style. Seems Yuma got whatever illness plagued Makoto and now the roles are switched up! But Its a lot more adorable, Yuma looks so cute with his pjs and fever compress! �� I feel like Makoto is the kind of doctor who plays with his patients a bit before curing them. Yuma’s right to be concerned. Makoto is a bit more quirky than him!

So, with Yakou being the main caretaker when anyone/everyone else gets sick surely he has to get sick at some point too right (especially with how much he smokes) ? How cute would a "the ENTIRE NDA takes care of the chief while he's sick" be?

Tbh You’re not the only one that has suggested this to me! I do think the idea is super cute! I just have a personal preference of what characters I prefer to whump or see as the sickie/whumpee and I rarely do it w older men.

But I think if Yakou was ill, naturally Yuma would be the first to find out. Then he’d go tell the rest of the detectives and they’d all do their part to care for him. (essentially hiwthi but its Yakou who’s ill this time lol)

Halara would (like in every single scenario I see of them as the caretaker) would go get the medicine as well as other necessities. I kinda head canon Halara as the type who prefers to get the more important stuff in a situation like this.

Desuhiko would try to find warm things in his disguise bag, such as a warm scarf or maybe a little shawl for him to wear. Then he’d write him a song to cheer him up.

Vivia would sit with him and talk to him, maybe read a book to him. I feel like they’d have a very meaningful conversation with each-other. Maybe he’d help cool his fever off too~ (I headcannon Vivia to be surprisingly good at caring for others, just not himself but I think that’s intentional given his catchphrase)

Yuma would probably try to make him a warm drink. Although Yuma cannot cook food, the game does hint at him being able to at least brew coffee (as told in many gumshoe gabs when he offers some to the detectives) and he’d likely try talking with him as well c:

And Fubuki would make and give him something warm to eat. Be it Soup, Porridge or Ramen c: She’d also talk to him, possibly about adventure stories as they always helped her feel better if she was ill.

Yakou couldn’t have bern more grateful to have such kind people watching over him. Although they’re all goofy troublemakers, they all have hearts of good inside.

How would the NDA handle a sick Vivia? And/or what would Vivia be like when he's sick?

Honestly, a sick Vivia probably isn't too much different from a normal Vivia... XD Like if he's just feverish he'd probably just be a little more sleepy than usual and maybe just not listen when people are speaking to him. I think for anyone to know he's sick, he'd need more symptoms that actually make it more obvious. Especially audible ones (sneezing/coughing/sniffling/raspy vocals)

As for how the NDA would handle him? First of all, I think Yakou would try to get him out of the fireplace to lay down somewhere more comfortable, but it wouldn't work and Vivia would stay put... X'D So Yakou instructs the NDA to get Vivia blankets and pillows, tea/water, ice, soup, and medicine. And maybe a nice new book to read. (though they'd probably fail to get one Vivia actually likes, and the only one who even slightly has a clue about his taste in literature is yuma... x'D) So they each buy a different type of book.

But poor Vivia would be too tired to move and too dizzy to read any books on his own. So to cheer him up, the NDA decides to each take turns reading their chosen books to Vivia. A little NDA storytelling circle around the fireplace to help the sick and tired spectral detective feel better and maybe help him to go to sleep~ ^-^ Yuma has a novel he actually likes, Desuhiko gets a romance/comedy novel, Fubuki gets an adventure novel, Halara gets a book about cats. And Yakou?? He probably just reads the newspaper to him... XD

Even if Vivia doesn't care for some of the genres, he feels too much peace to care so he smiles all bundled in a big warm blanket and laying his chin on a soft pillow as he hears all his friends read different stories to him to help him feel better <3

I was thinking about a sick Makoto, and realized you'd probably like to hear my thoughts instead of just letting em fade away

Despite Makoto being a perfect homunclus, I like to think he gets sick often and it's hard to fight off. Side affect from his habit of working without breaks. I feel like congestion issues are probably what gets him most... wine isn't the best for hydration, after all. Once he gets sick it's really hard for him to get back to feeling healthy again, even if he stops working and focuses on trying to get better. He could do everything he's supposed to do to feel healthy, and he'll still be sick for weeks on end. He usually doesn't focus on getting better, so he can be sick for much longer than that secretly. I like to imagine it comes in waves- he gets bedridden and can't do anything, then slowly starts healing and jumps on the opportunity to get back to work. Which re-kickstarts his illness all over again.

Absolutely. He is fairly frail despite being immortal and when he gets sick, it doesn't go away for a while. It can start with just a small cold, that will graduate to congestion, coughing, a high fever, chills, fatigue and literally anything. And yeah wine is not a good drink for that sort of thing at all... ^^; Because he constantly works with little to no breaks, he can easily destroy his health. He is just one person after all. Doing all this work and shouldering the burden of an entire city on his hands. ALONE? Nah. That cannot be healthy...

I love this idea so much and its canon to me now. The fact that it can come in waves and he can have good days and bad ones, and the good ones just end up bad ones literally the day after repeatedly because of all the time he spends working and NOT resting. It’s an endless cycle of pure misery and he only has himself to blame.

So I know this may be a weird one but i really like the idea of a platonic lightningbolt (desuhiko and vivia) where either Vivia or Desuhiko somehow get themselves sick and the other looks after them to the best of their abilities. What would you think about that?

(Sorry for my late response!! Yuma Month kept me busy 💦)

Okay first of all, Lightningbolt is such an adorable pairing name platonic or not. I love it xD

Second, I’ll try to think of a scenario for both parties since that sounds more fun. I’ll start with sickie Vivia and caretaker Desuhiko.

📖 Vivia would likely get sick more than Desuhiko due to his already poor health and how much he willing walks in dreary or rainy weather with little to no protection to himself. Vivia would likely contract a cold (which is Japanese media is usually just a fever) Desuhiko would likely try to keep Vivia warm, loaning him various warm garments from his disguise bag such as a robe or a sweater and scarf to keep warm, and maybe he also has a warm blanket in there too. Since Vivia prefers peace and quiet, Desuhiko despite being a loudmouth would respect it and try to keep his volume down. He’d likely try to tell Vivia a story to try to help relax him, but the story would be pretty jumbled and make little to no sense. (he’s never done this before) So Vivia tries to alter the story to make more sense and fit his tastes better, and despite Vivia not getting any rest as intended, he seems to be very engaged and looked distracted and happy, so Desuhiko doesn’t stop him.

⚡️ Desuhiko on the other hand I feel is a fairly healthy individual. Seeing him ill is honestly very hard for me. So if I do give him an illness, it’ll be the one I gave him in my NDA illness post; Laryngitis. If Desuhiko gets any sort of ailment, it would likely involve his voice being lost. The first thing Vivia would do is diagnose the issue and since he likely has read medical books, he knows various methods of how to treat it or make things easier for him. He guides Desuhiko through all the steps to gargling water, not speaking, and drinking warm ginger honey tea. Vivia reads Desuhiko one of his various forms a literature while he rests and sweats out the small fever he has, and he lets Desuhiko pick which book he wants to hear. Vivia also takes a nap with Desuhiko because he starts to get sleepy after reading to him, so once he’s done and Desuhiko falls asleep, he falls asleep either beside him, or at his feet like a pet. They’d nap together for hours.

I saw your reblog about Yuma with scars. In the event of Yuma taking his shirt off.

Yakou: Yuma?! Where did those scars come from?!

Yuma: What scars?! I don’t have any scars! *He looks into a mirror.* AAAAUUUUGGGH!

Then his fever spikes from the shock and stress causing him to pass out and Yakou catches him before he hits the ground. He’s still shirtless so the chief makes sure he’s gentle and doesn’t agitate the boy’s wounds.

Yuma’s breathing becomes pained and heavy, from the fever and the aches from the scars and injuries on his back. Yakou looks down at him with a sad and anxious look.

Yakou: Jeez. What the heck have you been through Yuma…?

Hi, I saw your homunculus research post and it's super interesting! I know only very basic biology but it was still understandable! I wanted to ask about how homunculi would get ill since they are made out of bacteria? Do they get sick, can they get bacterical infection and if they can, can that be treated with antibiotics?

Ohh thanks for the fun question! I'm glad that other people also think that granular bio details are interesting too

I'd like to preface with the fun fact that the average human body already contains more bacterial cells than actual human cells, and most of them are either just harmless or are straight up essential to human life. This is why misuse of antibiotics is dangerous, and there is a very specific amount and way you need to take them if they are prescribed. Misusing antibiotics can kill your beneficial bacteria, and it's the sheer amount of bacteria in your body that helps control the potentially bad bacteria. If you kill the good ones, this gives the bad ones room to grow out of control. Not to mention, it's usually the bad bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics, and can very quickly build more resistance the more antibiotics you take.

So in short, antibiotics can be dangerous for humans too, if not used carefully.

With all this in mind, it'll be easy to talk about homunculi. When I was referring to the bad bacteria that have super high antibacterial resistance, this mostly applies to gram-negative bacteria, the type that turns a bright pink that I've described as being a base for homunculi. So, I think that homunculi would generally be fine with antibiotics considering the lab environment in which they were created, where they would probably very quickly build resistances to the cocktails of antimicrobials that would be all over the place in that type of place. I'd expect maybe some homunculi to have a mild allergic reaction to some antibiotics, but I'd imagine that it'd be about as much of a risk as it is to humans.

Also, this leans more into some more science fiction element of all this; but I imagine that the bacteria used to create homunculi are probably some sort of lab-made strain that doesn't exist in real life (it's probably similar to e. coli though), but has stem cell-like properties so that it can use the human genetic code to be able to differentiate and grow into an organism where the bacterial cells become visually and functionally the same as a human's, just with some bacterial properties. It'd be a hybrid cell that's not entirely one or the other.

Going back to when I mentioned that humans contain more bacteria than actual human cells, this means that there could be upwards of a thousand different species in a person. Even when it comes to a bacteria that sounds as scary as e. coli, the reality is that it's normal and beneficial to have e. coli in you. The thing is that there is a specific strain of e. coli that gets you incredibly sick, not the species as a whole. Meaning, that despite homunculi having bacterial based cells, there are so many different species and strains of bacteria that do so many different things that really, homunculi probably can get sick like anyone else if they catch a bad bacterial or viral infection. Granted, they won't be at risk of dying from an illness because their cells are so good at regenerating, but they still have a human body, with a human organ system, and a human immune system. A lot of symptoms from illness are the result of the immune response, so if you consider that a homunculus has an immune system, that still means sneezing, runny nose, inflammation, fever, etc.

Oh my!! Now this is great thinking! Tbh I always thought Fubuki could only turn back time… I’m not sure if she can make it go forward.

I thought to myself while I took a shower after getting this ask; What if it would be Fubuki’s first time making time move forward rather than backward. Or maybe she has done it before, but she doesn’t have enough practice for it so the results are still unstable.

But if one of her dear friends were to fall sick, and the time was of the essence and the medicine was being slow, she would 100% try to fast forward time in order to make the medicine work faster to make them better.

In a way, that would make her a healer in her own right c: I bet that would make her feel so accomplished as one who loves adventures. What an OP little sweetheart she is 💜

Bonus points if using her time powers in order to move forward makes her MORE exhausted than moving it backward. After all…future events haven’t been predicted yet. So I think that would have even more of a price to pay on the user.

(It would make for good angst though. Good old self sacrifice)

So I noticed before that you posted Yakou with a stomach bug or something like that, but what other illnesses do you think Yakou should be inflicted with! Personally I want to sprinkle a bit of flu or pneumonia on the man. Idk why but he has become my whump character

Ha. Now you know how I feel with Yuma. It must be the pathetic wetcat-ness emanating from them both lol

Tbh I only gave him that to differentiate the illnesses between the detectives in that post. I still think its true and can work for him with all his drinking issues or maybe Yuma’s cooking gives him the WORST case of food poisoning.

But when it comes to other issues, I think Yakou would have a TERRIBLE cough when sick due to smoking. Wouldn’t be surprised if it gives him breathing issues as well. Or maybe he has a fit so bad it causes him to vomit. Or maybe when he’s out cold from a high fever, his labored breathing is super hollow. And I think he can also be prone to really bad hot flashes and dizziness if he gets up too fast if he has a bad headache/migraine/fever too~ 👀
