i may be biased considering my preferences for sex scenes i read but i take so much comfort in my idea that andrew and neil make soft, sweet love a lot more often than they bang get a quick one out

okay, I'll now proceed to tell you line for line why this song is Neil

It starts out strong with what I want to believe is Neil who has just lost his mother but still hears her voice and tries to follow her rules

This to me is Andrew calming Neil after a panic attack. Why? Good question.

Literally Neil's situation after accepting to be with the foxes even though he knows the risks and he's paranoid and scared as fuck to be found. Also I'm in love with the picture this verse paints of Neil on a tightrope, shaking , trying to get to the other side without falling in the abyss where his demons await

Andreil? Andreil.

First three lines immediately make me hallucinate of Neil getting closer and closer to the edge of the roof as he gets in deeper and deeper shit with the mafia but you know who's also on the roof ? you guessed it, it's Andrew Minyard holding onto his rabbit's shirt with a white knuckled grip, absolutely refusing to let him fall. Then the other two lines to me refer to exy. At the end of the day is Neil's love , drive and passion for this sport a gift or a curse?

And if I say Neil fighting between wanting to stay and needing to run am I stretching it too thin?

They'll hold me ( foxes ) , they wanna own me ( ravens ) , but in the end he always feels alone , nothing, he doesn't belong anywhere

He should tell Kevin and the foxes no, he should but he waits too long and now he loves them, he can't bear to leave them, he waits too long and now they're in danger because of him

Okay this whole part is Neil being watched by Nathan & co and then kidnapped, alone in the dark basement with the ghosts of those who died there before him but the last part SCREAMS Neil thinking about the foxes and mentally saying goodbye to them and the person he was with them

Back to my hallucinations for the animatic right after "hold " there's a little pause in the song and I believe that everything should go dark and we as an audience wonder whether Neil died in the basement or not

Then the song start again and Neil is back and he's broken and bandaged but alive alive alive and runs towards his foxes. Yay :)

Kim/Andrew. Wicked smart, holds their cards close to their chest, relatively 'emotionless' but goes to bat for those they love, traumatic childhood, always having to get their idiot out of trouble, has a strict moral code.

Jimmy/Neil. Can weasle their way out of anything, crafty, sassy, liars, dramatic, crime ties, somehow gets the unlikeliest of people to become allies/friends, will do some fucked up shit for their loved ones, is admittedly not the brightest but can still solve difficult situations with creativity(besides that's why they have Kim/Andrew).

I've been loving this show specifically because of Kim/Jimmy. I just watched the scene where they get married at the courthouse in the middle of a work day without telling anyone and then just carry on with their day and I was like 'this is so Andreil coded' lol.

okay so not to alarm you but prince's gambit has rewired my brain

like objectively i admit this series is dark and gross and yada yada yada all the caveats, i get it....but also i'm gonna be so honest i was expecting worse? like more specifically between damen and laurent. like the world itself is crude and terrible but everybody made it seem like it was this insane relationship that leaned into the sex slavery part and i'm just so compelled by the fact that as characters, both damen and laurent are overall....pretty decent people. like sure they have slaves, they kill people sure, but they don't abuse each other to the same extent like i see in a lot of toxic ships and that's soooo fascinating. (especially because i'm still waiting on laurent's reasoning for his celibacy! what is he hiding!!!) the reason the ship works so well is that starts as enemies to allies first and they do shockingly treat each other with as much consent as they're able most of the time. and in book two especially there's just so much less horror than in book one.

i think it was uncomfortable to adjust to the world itself because of obvious reasons but i think the political intrigue of book two is SO interesting and compelling and yeah i'll say it, i fucking love stories where the enemies end up becoming the only people they can trust - and the REASON IS they are BOTH TRYING TO DO GOOD! which is again so andreil coded, although it's for sure in a different way. my other favorite character archetype is the bad guy who is actually doing good underneath he just never corrects anyone because it's easier and better strategically to be bad!!! (me reading this: oh okay so it's a rhysand thing isn't it) like sure laurent is a bitch but he's literally giving aaron warner

i'll admit i am slightly terrified of what will happen when laurent finds out who damen actually is but i am LIVING for these bonding moments where they keep saving each other's life like DAMN i'm into that shit

anyway. i've fallen into the deep end and i fear i'll be stuck here for a while but hey, it's fun. i feel like i should be more ashamed of enjoying it BUT it's fun.

i know you already finished kings rising by now and i know i already screamed sufficiently in the dms (<3) BUT i just need to post this because your reactions in any shape and form are priceless to me. like YEAH it isn’t as bad as some people make it out to be. like you mentioned in some other tags on your blog, for a series that people claim is about focused on sex slavery (which it is not lol) there is a lot of consent happening. also like. the gross and disturbing stuff mostly happens in book one (after that it’s getting much tamer (still heavy and disturbing things happening but to a different extent) and it’s mostly just established things playing out and the main dynamic shifts so so much from where it started and in book three you understand why things unraveled and happened the way they did in book one. and by then everything has changed and the person they used to hate is their focal point and the only person they can actually trust. and the loyalty and devotion are well-earned and bone deep on both sides. it’s just soooo *head in hands* ���‍♀️and just to have it said, with an ounce of critical thinking you can see that there are points being made—shocking and “problematic” things in this story do have a point to exist in the story. it’s actually a story that at its core much more about love and forgiveness and overcoming your past than anything else. people either get it or they don’t.

and i know you understand now when i said they are andreil coded in a distinct way in the sense that their dynamics resembles them but they both resemble them as individuals as well but also they are completely different from neil and andrew and ahhhhh it makes me feel insane but You Know.

To answer your question tho, I think I'll always be teetering over the line a little bit tbh. I actually have a wip with romantic neilaaron (I would argue it's more queer platonic bc they're ace4ace to me but close enough) and another one where it's subtly implied that Aaron has a tiny, itty-bitty crush on Neil, but it's very brief. But even when their dynamic is platonic I tend to write them too romantic coded, like they're just one wrong move from actually dating at all times lmao

For the most part, I think I'm too much of a fan of kateaaron and andreil tho so that's what the endgame pairs will normally be

nobody in this fandom talks enough about andreil’s “you came” “you called” moment and it’s a fucking TRAVESTY

for reference, i’m talking about the 20th of january, right after wymack tells neil he’s going to be vice-captain the next year. neil ends up calling andrew, and andrew drops everything to come and get him.

even at surface level, it’s so sweet. but y’all know me, nothing is EVER just surface deep.

this moment is significant for two reasons. one, because it really showcases the level of trust neil has for andrew. if you remember, neil wasn’t even aware that he was calling andrew until andrew started talking to him. even his subconscious mind, the mind that is so set on survival and safety at any cost, trusted andrew to protect him. he felt threatened and his instinct was to call andrew.

now for my favorite reason why this scene is the best: because andrew didn’t have to go back for neil.

but aster, you might be asking, wasn’t neil going to run if andrew didn’t go get him?

yes, he was. but nowhere in their deal did they agree that andrew would keep neil from running. andrew’s only job was to protect neil, keeping him at PSU was never part of the deal. andrew never had to go back and get neil, even by his own moral code.

and they hadn’t even started their relationship yet! there was literally no reason why andrew, who everyone thinks cares about nothing and nobody, would turn around on the highway to keep one of his teammates from running away. none.

but he still did it. he didn’t have to, he wasn’t obligated because of a deal. he chose to go help neil.

i think it’s one of those moments that really shows just how much andrew cares. when andrew shows up to get him, neil says that andrew doesn’t care about what’s happening in his head, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. if andrew really didn’t care, he wouldn’t have gone back. he would have kept driving and left neil to figure it out for himself. but he didn’t, and that’s so fucking important.

TLDR: they’re in love and i love that they love each other
