Day 3 - #machine I'll admit I was dreading this prompt but i do like the end result. I do wish it hadn't come out as sloppy as it did (it looks better in the photo :( but I'll admit it was a struggle, I didn't use the right gray tome for my initial sketch and and my paper was starting to shred, so better to finish it and move on. Day 11 - #puzzlebox Unless I get a sudden miracle energy surge in the next hour, I'm going to be taking a lil inktober. Partially by default as I'm going to spend some time with family over the weekend, and two, I think I need some mental recharging. Day 24 - #guts Okay so I spent way too long on this and its not exactly "guts" per session but hear me out, I loved painting this one. It's been a long time since attempting anything in any degree of perspective, and I love weird mishappen broken-doll poses. It was a really, really fun challenge, even if it didn't turn out like I wanted it to. If it isn't clear, the general idea was to have a tree base and root system growing through the torso, which would have been more clear probably with a three-quarter or side view. Day 31 - #alterego It took me longer than I wanted but here is my last #whynoctober2018 piece! I'll be doing my final thoughts and highlights in a separate post, but i have some contemplation with this one in particular. . . Is it a finished painting by my inktober standards? Yes. Is it a finished painting? No. The last week of inktober was tough, with struggles to get back on schedule and some health issues and other factors as well. After getting over those obstacles and even though I had accepted I would be posting several pieces late, most of my art-challenge adrenaline had been knocked out and getting back to work felt sluggish and disconnected. It occurred to me that this was less of a scheduling issue and that I seem to have a yearly trend of sort of post-inktober depression (that sounds dramatic but I feel like is a common reaction after any sort of success). The concept for Alter Ego was one I was looking forward to all month and I wanted to put a lot of care into making it a polished work. Which is why I had the idea of posting it now. It is finished for inktober but instead of bringing the project to a sudden final close, I will continue to work on this painting. It feels anti-climatic and non traditional to the challenge but I think it will help me in carrying over the confidence and drive built up over the month into new working habits. . . I'M DONE!!
