saw another post about WHWE and I didn't want to add on to disagree bc I think it's annoying when people do that, and I know this is in opposition to 10 years of popular opinion anyway
but IMO a) Briala's relationship with Celene only being blackmail for Briala and b) the fact that you can condemn Briala's attempt to have her associate killed while the purge of the slum is barely even mentioned, both make perfect sense.
Nobody in-universe really cares to remark on the purge itself because... it's unremarkable. There was an elven peasant uprising against the Empire and the Empire crushed it. It's really only a significant event to the elves of Halamshiral, and you only really talk to one of them, hence it's only brought up once. The elf rightfully hates Celene for it, but she (nor any other reasonable person*) would have never expected anything else from the Empress of Orlais...
whereas Briala is the one who crawled out of the woodwork and suddenly started presenting herself as the Savior of the Elves, after spending 15 years in Celene's lavish bed. If her people knew her history, it would call into question what she even knows about struggles of the average city elf and whether she could really be trusted to keep her back turned on her former lover. Everyone knows who Celene really is and what her priorities are - Briala is the one who needs to prove she's really what she says and that she's really for the cause.
So the fact that Briala would send one of her own people, whom she's supposedly there to champion, to death to protect her own interests and power IS scandalous and horrible. It's personal. It's two-faced. One death is a tragedy, while 1000 deaths is a statistic. Briala's betrayal of this singular, specific elf, imo, represents more of a betrayal than Celene's entire purge (although obviously not equal crimes).
Briala is a terrible person, just like Celene and Gaspard - she just has better PR because the fandom believes in her cause.

I've replayed Inquisition so many times now, but I just found out that during Wicked Hearts and Wicked Eyes, you can just get the key to the library -instead of awkwardly climbing that wall by the fountain- off of the court historian by chatting her up about fanfiction XD <3

I’m a grown-ass woman who has done the Solas romance at least eight times but I still turn into a puddle of goo when he places his hand on Lavellan’s back before asking her to dance at the Winter Palace.
