#OTD in Irish History | 12 April:
1654 – The Ordinance of Union comes into effect, uniting Ireland and Scotland with England. 1816 – Sir Charles Gavan Duffy was born in Co Monaghan. Sunny? Ride. Rainy? Ride.
I guess I don’t really have much of a choice since I don’t have a permanent spot to stay on the road. Embracing the suck is part of the adventure to me and builds resilience as a person.
Besides, the rain is temporary and if you ride far enough in Ireland, you’ll escape the rain to a patch of sun to dry off long enough for the next round of rain 😹 This makes it tolerable to me.
I’m trying to find the purrrfect balance of finishing up Ireland/ the UK and getting to the West side of Europe so that their temperatures die down. It was 116F/ 46.8C in Spain a few weeks ago. Rain might be miserable, but that heat is absolutely intolerable. The other thing I have to consider is finishing before the winter comes and temperatures DROP 🙀
It feels like I’m playing chess with Mother Nature ♟️ Just a little peek into my decision making and what I need to think about when living in the elements
Is there anything you’re musing over?
Let’s tackle this week y’all! 😼💪🏍️

The spirit of Ireland ignites on St. Patrick's Day, transforming the entire island into a vibrant tapestry of cultural celebration. While the world dons green attire, there's no place quite like Ireland itself to immerse yourself in the joyous festivities. A Week-Long Extravaganza: St. Patrick's Festival St. Patrick's Day is just the tip of the iceberg. Ireland ushers in a week-long extravaganza known as the St. Patrick's Festival, a spectacular display of music, dance, and captivating outdoor shows. The culmination of this joyous celebration is the iconic St. Patrick's Day parade, snaking its way through the historic streets of Dublin on March 17th. Witness a kaleidoscope of colors as marching bands, exuberant floats, and lively dancers fill the air with infectious energy. The spirit of celebration extends beyond Dublin. Regional parades in cities like Kilkenny, Limerick, and Killarney offer a unique opportunity to experience the local flavor of St. Patrick's Day festivities. Each region adds its twist to the celebration, ensuring an unforgettable experience in every corner of the island. Tracing the Footsteps of St. Patrick For those seeking a deeper connection to Ireland's patron saint, a visit to Northern Ireland, the "Home of St. Patrick," is a must. Located in Downpatrick, the St. Patrick's Centre serves as the world's only permanent exhibition dedicated to this revered figure. Delve into the life and legacy of St. Patrick, gaining a deeper appreciation for his impact on Irish culture and history. Celebrating Virtually: Livestream the Excitement Can't make it to Ireland in person? Fret not! Tourism Ireland brings the magic of the Dublin parade directly to your living room. This year, tune in for an epic livestream featuring commentary from PBS star Mickela Mallozzi and Irish TV legend Francis Brennan. Sustainable Celebrations: A Green Commitment While the world adorns itself in green to celebrate all things Irish on St. Patrick's Day, Ireland is taking a different approach to "going green." The island nation has made a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. This dedication to a greener future is evident throughout the hospitality and tourism sectors, with many businesses adopting eco-friendly practices. Beyond Dublin: Exploring Ireland's Diverse Regions The true magic of Ireland unfolds beyond the bustling streets of Dublin. Venture off the beaten path and discover the unique charm of each region. The Wild Atlantic Way: Embrace the rugged beauty of Ireland's western coastline on the Wild Atlantic Way, a scenic route stretching along the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Discover dramatic cliffs, charming coastal towns, and breathtaking natural landscapes. Ireland's Ancient East: Journey back in time on a captivating exploration of Ireland's Ancient East. This region boasts over 5,000 years of European history, evident in ancient ruins, majestic castles, and historical landmarks. Northern Ireland: A distinct cultural experience awaits in Northern Ireland. Explore a captivating blend of scenic landscapes, vibrant cities, and a rich cultural heritage that sets this region apart. Ireland: A Destination for All Seasons While summer offers idyllic weather for exploring Ireland's stunning landscapes, the magic doesn't fade away during the off-season. Fall, winter, and spring present unique advantages for travelers seeking a more tranquil experience. Enjoy competitive airfares, readily available accommodations, and smaller crowds, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in the local culture. Easier Than Ever to Get There: Increased Accessibility Reaching the Emerald Isle has never been more convenient. 2024 boasts a record number of non-stop flights from 17 US gateways, making it easier than ever to plan your Irish adventure. Additionally, Dublin and Shannon airports offer US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance, streamlining your return journey to the US as a domestic passenger. FAQs: 1. What are some must-see attractions during St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Ireland?
